Hi Doug, from Calgary here. My son went to UMBC in Baltimore (actually Catonsville) about 12 years ago. He never encountered anything bad in his 4 years. During my many visits during that time, I only witnessed one incident , that was a fellow getting it on with his wife/ significant other ?? as we were leaving an NFL game. I never felt threatened during those 4 years. Also, enjoyed many visits to the inner harbour.
Baltimore is where I ran outta gas when I got discharged from the military fifty-some years ago; turned out to be not such a bad place to settle and raise a family. Would never leave here now...
How does that work? Flying the drone and driving at the same time? Hover in place mode? Nice that in his extra time there he is creating "how to" videos.
Excellent footage. Really interesting technical explanations. Downside for me. Living UK I don't know where you are/going. But. Hey I can live with that. Like the aerials and clever showing the app weigh bridge read out!
Wondering if you didn't notice the uneven playback of motion. See the truck on the left for example at 39:35. For some reason it's motion is not smooth but jumpy. Do you by any chance record in 24 fps but cut and render in 30 fps or something like that?
You are ture professional to allow others driver's the right of way even though the cop kept going. Just the pick up where I left off. That was a beautiful day
Doug, great video. Entertaining and informative. ??? I’d be interested in hearing a breakdown of the total $$ cost of escort/police charges for the haul. It must be very significant. Thank you.
Douglas, the NY troopers also got to see you handling the oversize with the run before the inspection so they had evidence you are not an accident looking for a place to happen, making the inspection much more positive even before you had the paperwork ready for them at the start. Would the weight from the Cat scales being included with the logs / paperwork have been a positive for the inspectors? I know they would still have done their weighing.
@jaquigreenlees....the CAT-scale ticket certainly doesn't hurt as it shows to the officers that Doug did verify the weight of his combo to compare with the weight that his employer's permit-logistics department had "fed to the State permit agencies"". That being said, the beauty of the CAT-Scales Group is that they guarantee that overall-weight and the axle-weights are correct (provided the driver fuels before scaling), so that if an enforcement agency felt the need to cite the driver for "overweight" on the total weight, or on certain axle-groups, the driver could contact CAT-Scale and they would assist with the defense of said citation.
@@ahonetwoonesixthree2314 but it would still be a known quality data source that Douglas has at least tried to keep his weights per axle within permit limits. ( Well within limits truly but ya gotta take the soft pedal / sell if ya want to fight a fine in court. )
For loading, couldn't you fit a pair of cameras, front and rear, have two little monitors temp in the cab, and a little guide markers that drop down so you know both parallel and angle gaps?
You were in my backyard again. Unfortunately I can’t drive for about a year. Do to having some type of seizure. Hopefully I’m out there sooner. Still doing testing
@@luckybananaheavyhaul3407 I can imagine so, and other drivers might chill when they see cops escorting you, and the extra eyes sure help to spot issues say when turning.
Boy we are sure lucky out here in the West (Nevada) where we have lots of freeways to handle these types of loads. A lot easier than what you have to do to get the load delivered to the customer back East. Thanks for taking us along for the trip.
@stuartatkins5425....technically we have lots of freeways (& toll-roads) too, but the infrastructure (read: bridges, overpasses) are in pitiful state and Doug's combo could well be the last nail in the coffin while crossing some of these structures (that was always my fear when operating delivery self-propelled mobile cranes). That said, the traffic -ensity is also far greater on the East Coast then in the West, that's why P\permit-routings are usually mandated off the beaten track.
Yes east coast is not the same game! That’s why I just laugh when westerners say they routinely move bigger pieces of equipment. The infrastructure is much different, the laws are very different and the population density is very different so you really can’t compare the two

1:17:00 that exit looks scary ! (yeah im watching old stuff to get your channel to go back up in my followed channel list because it seems that this list goes in function of how many videos you are watching from each channel recently)
btw, it also seems that a channel doing a live feed is always on top of that list during the livestream, maybe after your "video vacations" a bunch of old stuff on live for a day or two would help you to get back on top fast with many regular viewers (just an observation here)
Love your videos, I live in Baltimore, about a 20 minute walk to the inner harbor. I drive past the staging area every day on the way home from work. Hopefully one day I’ll see your truck sitting there.
Interesting video, trunk, trailer & load info, view of harbor ( March 26 and they are still finding bodies), the differences between your escorts and I can just imagine NYPD writing you up for running a red light or you not stopping for school bus 1:00:43, then seizing your truck and load under their strange asset forfeiture rules
Pleasure watching a son learn from his dad and be as good as the old man congratulate your dad for me he did a great service to our over dimensional industry fine piece of work son be safe big guy
We started goi g to the #1 on 695 about 20 years ago and MSP liked it and the word spread, now if you have a trooper thats pretty standard affair. Much safer than wrestling w ramp traffic. Excellent job all around Driver!
Most the time i haul heavy it 150,000 to 95,000..we run 8 axles ! 4 tractor ,3 low boy trailer and a 1 axle flip trailer .have to have permit for weigh and length .permit even if empty because length .
Awesome video, Doug! Please visit British Columbia sometime to teach our guys how it's done. I've lost track of how many overpasses we've lost in the last 2-3 years!
My compliments again, Doug, for another outstanding video with top editing. Your explanations at the truck stop while waiting for the NYSP escort, were very interesting. Question: upon entering that T/S, when you needed to raise the trailer, doesn't that activity pull the trailer back (the reverse of what happens when drivers drop the air on a van-trailer after docking, it pushes the trailer-box forward). The real question is: do you leave the tractor-brake off when raising the trailer, so the tractor moves backwards during the process? (the energy for raising the trailer has got to go somewhere). Also, when you suggested - just prior to entering the Rest Area/Weigh Station near Kanona/NY - to have all your paperwork ready for such inspections, you named among other things the Permits. Maybe you should also remind drivers to ensure that the Permits are signed and all auxiliary forms (usually to be downloaded from the State's website) are in fact present with each permit. (I can't stop re-iterating the "signing part" to all my drivers).
Yes you are correct about signing for the states and provinces which require signatures. NY used to require but not any more. I have the habit of only using the tractor parking brake and leaving the trailer released. That being said when working on uneven ground or on a slope all the brakes should be set. The truck alone may not be enough to hold 200,000 lbs from rolling on a slope
Now getting to the end of the video. If that was the Brits pulling up to call the bridge to cross, we'd be duty free first, then call the bridge🤣🤣🤣. Whilst your crossing the bridge, the river reminds me of the Rhine in Holland as its nearing the North Sea. Brilliant video Doug, keep them rolling
As long everyone is on the same page on how you getting their, what lanes is needed and what the situation is for the travel. Then keep at it it as long the drive is safe for everyone on the road traveling and less stop and go. But for sure that is a big Cat on the low loader trailer.
Curious question: At the beginning of the video I see a lot of 12x12 wood beam chunks. You can't possibly haul those around everywhere you go, yet when you need them, they're right there. How does that happen?
I live in south Baltimore and drive I95 a lot. I'm always on the lookout for you. If you see a red blue or black Volvo wagon (I have three and drive them in rotation) giving you a honk, that might be me just saying HI.
Hey- Another good video. Liked it when class went into secession for Stinger 101. I was looking for the pop quiz though. When you load Excavators or Mining trucks do you offset the machine a little to offset the weight of the cab? Have a good day.

Thats why I publish these videos! When people see us on skinny little roads it’s not because we’re lost!!! Okay maybe sometimes 🤣
Awesome video. I was just gonna ask about the track tighteners, and then you explained it.
Enjoyed the video. Keep them coming!
New viewer here, catching up with your back catalog. I live near rt 581 at the 23 minute mark, that ramp even sucks in a car. Keep on truckin!
Welcome to the channel!
Another interesting video Doug, enjoy watching them all. Your driving skills are at the top of professional driving for sure !!
Heavy machinery like this is always impressive to watch!
That was a great video, i enjoyed it very much maybe watch again 👏👏👏
Love your video's please keep them coming !!!💥
Great job with the drone camera 😎
How does that work? Flying the drone and driving at the same time? Hover in place mode? Nice that in his extra time there he is creating "how to" videos.
My favorite view is from up there
Yes these newer drones are a very stable platform. I can position the drone and it will remain on station while I maneuver the truck.
Excellent footage. Really interesting technical explanations. Downside for me. Living UK I don't know where you are/going. But. Hey I can live with that. Like the aerials and clever showing the app weigh bridge read out!
Thank you 😊
Wondering if you didn't notice the uneven playback of motion. See the truck on the left for example at 39:35. For some reason it's motion is not smooth but jumpy. Do you by any chance record in 24 fps but cut and render in 30 fps or something like that?
Thanks for sharing your trip!
Thank you.
Unfortunately I won’t talk to much business numbers in the videos. This is still a very competitive business
CAT Scale has no guarantee on split-weigh....whole truck has to be on the pad, 1 weigh to be guaranteed
@@ahonetwoonesixthree2314 but it would still be a known quality data source that Douglas has at least tried to keep his weights per axle within permit limits. ( Well within limits truly but ya gotta take the soft pedal / sell if ya want to fight a fine in court. )
nice job keep them wheels ah turning good luck we be watching you
Is scale width a problem with oversized loads. Those cat scale uprights look narrow on video. Thanks in advance.
Yes they can be. With a load width over 13 feet you usually need to back off after scaling
Also whoa! At 1:09:35 those are BART cars! I wonder if they're going to and from Hornell, which is nearby to this rest stop (I think it's Kanona?)
For loading, couldn't you fit a pair of cameras, front and rear, have two little monitors temp in the cab, and a little guide markers that drop down so you know both parallel and angle gaps?
You are way to technologically advanced 😅 this isn’t Star Wars 🤣
You were in my backyard again. Unfortunately I can’t drive for about a year. Do to having some type of seizure. Hopefully I’m out there sooner. Still doing testing
Take care of yourself ❤️
@@luckybananaheavyhaul3407 thank you and I’ll keep watching your videos
Nice tanker with Gasoline(1203) right next to the scales, nice drive and i bet the extra help to block traffic is quite nice.
I always appreciate the help. This job goes a lot better with teamwork!
@@luckybananaheavyhaul3407 I can imagine so, and other drivers might chill when they see cops escorting you, and the extra eyes sure help to spot issues say when turning.
Nice to see BALTIMORE EXPRESS alongside you there at Dundalk.
that was some very professional driving good job
Jeff will win,he always does,he's a go her.great video as always.
The infrastructure is much different, the laws are very different and the population density is very different so you really can’t compare the two
I'm new here I usually hangout north carolina and southern indiana, heavy equipment operators arizona utah off road and on road vehicle recovery and florida drag racing, this is the first ever long haul channel for meoh I'm into railroads and home construction too.
Welcome to the channel!
1:17:00 that exit looks scary !
(yeah im watching old stuff to get your channel to go back up in my followed channel list because it seems that this list goes in function of how many videos you are watching from each channel recently)
btw, it also seems that a channel doing a live feed is always on top of that list during the livestream, maybe after your "video vacations" a bunch of old stuff on live for a day or two would help you to get back on top fast with many regular viewers (just an observation here)
@pourquoiunidentifiant thanks for the suggestion. I’ll think on it 🍻
Ahhhhhh you went through my city again in the intro! Hahahah enjoying this so much.
Love your videos, I live in Baltimore, about a 20 minute walk to the inner harbor. I drive past the staging area every day on the way home from work. Hopefully one day I’ll see your truck sitting there.
I am there often enough! Don’t be shy to say hi
😇😇😇
Well you know as well as I do that on those shorty ramps I swear it gets to be a game with some of the 4 wheelers(and some of the 18s)
I always wondered why most heavy cross country runs don’t allow you to take the inside lanes.
Thanks for the ride along.
Texas🙏
We started goi g to the #1 on 695 about 20 years ago and MSP liked it and the word spread, now if you have a trooper thats pretty standard affair. Much safer than wrestling w ramp traffic.
Excellent job all around Driver!
Most the time i haul heavy it 150,000 to 95,000..we run 8 axles ! 4 tractor ,3 low boy trailer and a 1 axle flip trailer .have to have permit for weigh and length .permit even if empty because length .
Always good to hear from a fellow heavy hauler ✌️
Awesome video, Doug! Please visit British Columbia sometime to teach our guys how it's done. I've lost track of how many overpasses we've lost in the last 2-3 years!
I won’t say anything… bad carma to talk about others who hit overpasses!
😊 I have not had the opportunity to explore Europe very much yet. It is on the list!
Yup it’s up to us to supply the wood needed so I drag the blocks around
What i like is about is you know if you respect people they will give you respect.
100%
I live in south Baltimore and drive I95 a lot. I'm always on the lookout for you. If you see a red blue or black Volvo wagon (I have three and drive them in rotation) giving you a honk, that might be me just saying HI.
10-4 👍
Hey- Another good video. Liked it when class went into secession for Stinger 101. I was looking for the pop quiz though. When you load Excavators or Mining trucks do you offset the machine a little to offset the weight of the cab? Have a good day.
The worst are wheeled cranes. They almost always need to be offset on the trailer
What is the little trailer in the back for? Really curious, impressive work god damn
Believe it or not the extra trailer is for weight displacement. And it is actually carrying as much weight per axle as the main trailer!
@@luckybananaheavyhaul3407 Damn, thanks for explaining it, makes sense now!
