    It is amazing the levels of repair you achieve to bring good equipment back to life. As I've told you before I worked at the Decatur, IL plant where parts of the tractor scrapers are built. Many of the scraper bowls come from a plant in South America, actually Brazil. CAT has had a strong presence in Brazil back into the 60's and 70's.
    I'm looking forward to the videos to come. The complexity of this rebuild is over the top!!!!!!!

    I have noticed in many of your videos that you extensively use a Miller Multimatic 220 running what I assume to be a 0.035 or 0.045 Dual Shield wire. Do you ever run into the Duty Cycle or Thermal Limits of the welder? Also what kind of shield gas/flow rate do you use? Love the content!

    • @OFW
      @OFW  6 месяцев назад +1

      I use my 220 a lot but only run .035 solid wire through it. For dual shield I run the arcreach 12. Never trip any duty cycles. I run 30-50 cfh with 75% argon 25% co2

      @@OFW Do you think the Miller 215 and 220 using the oem MIG gun could run 0.045” if not 0.035” dual shield wire, power and feed wise?
      The Miller 215 is capable of 27v and 600 on the WFS - in theory the 220 uses the same MIG electrics as 215.
      Thank You for thanking the time to answer my questions, and I just wanted to say I love the field work on all the heavy equipment. I am learning a lot not just about welding but heavy equipment too.

      @@OFW 0.045 wire on a Miller 215@@OFW 0.045” wire.
      Since your reply, I have set my Miller 215 up to run 0.045” dual shield wire with c25. The Miller is capable of up to 27vdc and 600ipm WFS. On 1/4” to 3/8”I have tried several settings but seem to find myself back at 25v at 350ipm, but I’m struggling with settings and travel speeds etc. and getting wormhole porosity on the surface. Or the bead is roped up and not really wetting in. I try to keep a 3/4” stickout. If I get too close I get porosity, if I get too far, it seems to slip from Spray transfer to Globular and I get big spatter BB’s.
      You said you always run Lincoln 71a85, but I can only find that in 15 pound spools, so I settled for Blue Demon 0.045”, (and I’m a little underwhelmed by its performance), and I don’t think the Lincoln 15 spool will fit inside the Miller 215.
      I was forced to go on disability, and I am trying to find something I can do within my abilities and tight budget.
      I know every machine is different and wire brand makes a difference too, but could you please recommend a basic starting point for settings.
      I have tried standard 0.035” Flux Core, but I think the welds are brittle, and I. Hoping the dual shield will help improve penetration and weld strength.
      I have learned a lot from your videos, and truly appreciate your content. Your knowledge of heavy earthmoving machinery is very impressive.
