Auto? That’s a controversial choice! I would love the auto (because I’m lazy) but I feel it would be boring. I do enjoy shifting through gears on an open road!
@@DylansCarReviews I live in a big city and I have carpal tunnel syndrome on my right hand and my right shoulder is not as good as it used to be. Im 43 years old...lol.
Don't even start with me about the GT-86 feeling "cheap". Our Toyota 86 (there's no GT in the name) doesn't come with some of those features you see there. No push button start, no fancy screen in the gauge cluster, and we still have bulky knobs for climate instead of the nicer climate control you see here. Although we still have bluetooth, backup camera, and touch screen as standard. But overall, I do think the interior in the US one looks a bit better in terms of materials. Instead of that cheap looking plastic we get a nice suede looking material along the dash. Our screen also looks more retrofitted in there instead of just being part of the car. In my opinion, that looks a bit cooler. And also, the 86 is a bit cheaper than the Subaru.
It's a tough choice for me because I'm a subaru guy but I'm also a huge fan of initial d and love the 86 emblem and just being able to call it an 86 over a brz is better in my opinion. Idk.
Together with the MX-5 an endangered species of car. But please, don't sit on the car, it's not your property, it's not cool and the jeans rivets will damage the paintwork.
I think Toyota and Subaru did a great marketing mistake with this car (Same the Mx-5) 1) They oriented the car to the young users. Sadly that buyer segment, don't understand this kind of cars. They are the Fast & Furious Generation, and the only that they ask is Horsepower, turbos, etc. They don't even notice how good balance, what a great gearbox and how delighfull is drive one of this machines. Only older people who has experience with other classic pure sports understand the idea. 2) Sell this car in North America was another mistake. Americans don't understand small and handling sports. They want heavy muscles with thousands of HP , big engines, comfort seats, screens, buttons, and cupholders everywhere In my opinion is a model oriented to Japan, South America and Europe markets
Very good review. I will definitely choose the GT86 over the Subaru. I think it looks better and more aggressive, the BRZ although it is also a very good looking car, has a front bumper that looks like a smiley face.
In Southern California these cars are very common. They're the Prius of sports cars out here (so many of them). Still great cars and I'd happily own own.
By Prius you mean most common, right? I only see a few around SoCal but there’s probably more near LA. Although I always get scolded for buying an 86 because for the price I could have gotten a WRX.
It is better than the BRZ . I test drove both back to back. I went with the the toyota 86 because the Brz slide out more. The 86 is slightly stiff in the back - it will kick out but less than brz.
clean trunk/boot lid is nice; however, the TRD duckbill spoiler is nice and looks better than the wing, IMO. I just wish they came with more tire (read wider), 225 or 235 on a 17x8 wheel. Amazing how many more tires choices are available in 225/45/17 (used by VW and BMW).
Only the whole Toyota crowd who wants to buy suggested the lack of power and the silly high price. But hey what do the consumers know we're only the people offering our money....
Great review from ya laddy, subscribed just from the young Topgear feel of this, really reminded me of a mix of all three of the "old guard" let's say. Nice one! Oh and... I'm a Toyota fanboy 😅 so GT86 for me
The spoiler is too boyish looking . And it comes standard on all brz but with the toyota 86 its optional which is good because I totally hate the wing/SPOILER , its a bit too much. Also, the brz rides differently , brz slides more , too floaty, too tail happy for my taste in comparison to the Toyota 86. The 86 is more planted in comparison. Also, the brz exhaust note is louder . I'm forty years old and would like to keep my hearing in tip top shape. Having said all of that i truly enjoy owning my 86. Cheers !
Hi there @Richard & fellow viewers. I'm from England and I'm considering getting either a BRZ or a Toyota GT 86 but I'm not sure which route to go down to make the final choice. The car is reasonably expensive going into the 25k mark however I'm tempted to go down the finance route just so I can get my hands on the car. My question is, how much could you get you get your BRZ/86 for? Would you buy it straight up or did you go down the finance route?
Scott Seager The Subaru comes in only one spec and the GT86 comes in 3. The Subaru is also cheaper than the cheapest GT86 and better equipped. Don't comment unless you know what you're talking about knobhead.
Years later, this car will be a new meme like its father when Initial D sequel, MF Ghost, gets animated. Toyota will invest on the series for their own promotion.
Hi Jonathan, there are actually subtle differences between the BRZ and GT86. Some people prefer the Toyota, some prefer the Subaru. Here at Car Keys we offer unbiased reviews that cater for everyone's needs - AKA, those who are looking at the GT86, and those who are looking at buying the BRZ.
I really enjoy using this car , I have an automatic. But the wheel gap is too wide. I don't want lowering springs or coilover. I want to keep it stock but would like to close that gap a bit , what do you recommend ? I don't know much about cars . thanks for any input guys/gals.
And the philosophy of the 86 is lost upon yet another power junkie. This car is about the way it handles, not the power it makes (which is still impressive if you consider the size of the engine and that it is NA).
When he scratched it and said it sounds like a velociraptor it made me question if I should keep watching
I have driven both cars back to back. And i ended up with the 86 automatic. Love it !
Seems that the fuel economy is bad. 10lt/100km. 😞

I'd get the subaru - the base asking price is a little cheaper and in the long run, it holds it's value slightly better

There is a noticeable difference between this and the older ones. The 4.3 gears compared to the 4.1 is noticeable and it looks better
This guy should be on top gear
no
In the first gen I prefer de Toyota GT86
In the second generation I prefer the Subaru BRZ
Why the fuck would you sit on the car, it will damage the paint
Of all the various iterations of the 86, the mk1 GT86 is easily the nicest looking.
Though I like the Toyota more.. I think the BRZ has the better bumper and a little better equipment
I like the aero kit
im already buy it and i like this car because its like a hachi roku on initial d
It's the newer AE86 that's why I love it so much
Makes sense since hachi and roku is literally japanese for 8 and 6

Brilliant work! Keep it up!
Why would someone used to the futuristic high tech feel of high end sports cars be buying a gt86?
It looks awful without a rear spoiler! The BRZ is better looking, better equipped and cheaper.
Samuel Brooks its not
Samuel Brooks different badge same spec same price Muppet
Scott Seager The Subaru comes in only one spec and the GT86 comes in 3. The Subaru is also cheaper than the cheapest GT86 and better equipped.

Andrew,
Samuel Brooks you got that backwards bud the Subaru comes in the different options and now the Gt86 has two options go look at (BOTH) websites
Prettier without the spoiler
Nice content! Keep it up!
I like my 2016 Scion FR-S but yeah they should had added a supercharger or turbo but don’t really feel slow

This is how you choose, watch me:

*Runs to a current model BRZ and jumps in it* You choose too late m8, have fun with the weird front bumper 86!
But is it faster than Fujiwara Tofu Shop's 86?
The 86 and BRZ are the same car.
No

Just get e46 330i if you can find one. Better car in all aspects.
i like the front of the subaru
At least the Toyota probably won't get stolen unlike the Subaru lol.

no. As jeremy clarkson said: just roll a dice or stuff
Me personally would always go for the subie. Looks better and i like subaru more than toyota.
What color is this in
wtf . its the same car. same engine , gearbox , chassis etc. normally you guys make such good quality videos??

Why is an 11 year old reviewing cars??
Haha true. Also he's copied off Jeremy Clarkson in his reporting style. The kid needs to develop his own style otherwise he's just boring 😌
but the BRZ is more original and exclusive than the 86

Stock lower it
The older model looked better
They should’ve Turbo charged these cars.
Blue Spectre but these cars weigh more - the AE86 was in the 900kg range.
