What's the best car in this line-up?

  • @a.w.289

As a GT86 owner myself, I think the problem with Ben's launches is that TC was not fully off, so the computer kept cutting power in the wet. When you press the TC off button once, it only turns off part of the TC (which is what Ben did). To further disable control, you will need to hold the button for 3 sec. And for older model such as the one in this video, you will need to do the pedal dance to fully turn off all electronic control (except for ABS).

The GT deserves respect in terms of reviving the original 86 but the GR gets the most respect as the performance is what the 86 should be in terms of today’s standards.

Considering Ben gets a rubbish launch every time he drives a car on this channel, we definitely need to see a car swap to prove if it's the driver in one of these...is the Stig just rubbish at launching? Track mode on the GR86 does not disable traction control, it allows for more wheel spin before cutting in. The stability program light comes on to indicate it’s not at its full potential and will allow the slide more before acting.
Press and hold the t/c button with the sport mode button and it turns off everything and you can let the lsd diff do it’s job fully.

A seldom mentioned fact. The FA24 is not really a “bigger” engine, as far as size. The merely bored the existing block more. The walls are thinner. The outside dimensions are unchanged.. The torque peaks at like 3400 rpm vs 6600 I believe in the gt86. So obviously some other changes to the EFI etc were made to get that dynamic to be that different from that little additional displacement

I've been fortunate enough to have owned all 3 generations of this car. AE86 coupe when I was 18. GT86/FRS back when it first came out in 2013. And a year ago I bought the GR86.

The AE86 is still the best looking car there. That profile and the way it slopes back. Oh and don't forget it has pop-up headlights, so...that's automatically ten times cooler.

I'm pretty sure the reason for ABS is so you can continue to _steer_ as you panic brake. A demonstration in driver's ed showed ABS doesn't shorten stopping distances (it lengthened them in a couple of tests).
I always thought the GT86 was really a successor to the Celica though, despite the name. The AE86 was a sporty coupe version of the humble ecobox Corolla, with good storage and a modest engine.
The GT86 is a low-slung sports car with no concessions to practicality and a wild engine they'd never put in a regular compact.
    🤷🏻‍♂️ I still miss my 2016.

What Ben described as dumping the clutch sounds more like a perfect slip when the tires will hook, what I think most people think off as dumping the clutch is side stepping it, which is much more violent.

perhaps the driver i was up against wasn't driving their gr86 correctly but ive actually beaten one in 5-6 gear in a first gen brz. from my experience the first gen is terrible at the mid range of its top speed but really hammers down those last 50 or so mphs.
