I love this video because how much I can relate with Ethan. Most of my purchase decisions raise questions from others. My laptop, my phone, my headphone they're all found me and took hours before decided to get one. Good one Ethan.
Good choice. As an owner of an 86 myself (pre facelift), this is a car that makes you smile everytime you drive it. The transmission is quite underrated imo, it's a 6 speed torque converter that shifts decently fast and yet is smooth plus reliable when just commuting around. With the auto gearbox, it's a sports car that you can live with daily in KL and yet will not run your accounts dry with it's running costs.
@@danstheory4164 NVH is terrible, it's like a Viva in there lol. Some say the facelift model is better with regards to that. But I intend to do something about it soon. Currently surveying soundproofing solutions for it. As for rattling, I have that too, haven't had the time to fix it yet.
@@ffh2303 I'm interested with the car, but to daily drive it would be a pain in the ass. I guess I'll look into civic instead. Btw soundproofing isn't really that hard, you can buy your own material(vibration dampening and foam noise insulation) which i did to my own car which took so much time. Or you can spend around 1.5k to send to other people, I think there's a malaysian youtuber that does soundproofing service cheaper than shop but use same branded material.
@@danstheory4164 I looked at several other models before finally deciding to go ahead with the 86. They were the BMW 120i, Mazda 3 GVC, Audi A3, Golf GTI, Proton X50. Mainly these inclusions were fuelled by my family and friends who questioned the suitability of the 86 which would've been my only car. The 120i has handling that is quite close to the 86, being RWD. The engine is also punchier at lower RPMs due to the turbo. NVH is also befitting of a BMW. But it's kinda like a compromise from the 86 for me. In the price range there are other more technically accomplished cars that can do it all well, but it terms of 'feel' from the steering to the way you sit in the car nothing else comes close. In the end I think it's best if you test drive a BRZ/86 if you can first. It's a proper old school lightweight RWD sports car with bespoke chassis and mechanical feel. Maybe then you'll also fall in love with it as I and other owners did.
To me, owning a sport car is just purely a personal indulgence, there's no point owning a sport car if you are not realizing its full potential but instead just using it for daily commuting. But for each and his own, if it makes you feel good and if you can afford it, by all means buy it and pampered yourself.
86 is the one of those car need to be manual, just like s2000 or miata, 6 speed manual is like a soul for those type of small power Rwd sport car. If you really need auto, probably golf gti is the best choice or bmw z4 if Rwd is your thing.
For daily driving in KL... u get stress with the jem condition.. great choice for AT and funny to see two nerdy looking guys who are compassionate about cars like kids
well not everyone can afford to own a practical car + a weekend sport car... so it make sense to have a fun and practical car (balanced) if we only can afford one~~~ and 2nd hand/ recon auto sportcars are actually cheaper than their manual counterpart...
Nice BRZ/86/FRS. definitely a fun car to drive! Most important, it's cheap! Especially when you live in Malaysia. Let's hope Subaru/Toyota has addressed the rock arm failure issue. About everything else, this is a nice choice for youngster. :)
its a bit of a generalization on Japanese manual drivers... as for my car, it was own by an unker and driven pretty sedately. albeit high mileage and tampered sold as low mileage.
BRZ 86 FRS... are probably the most sensible road worthy sports car for a non-pro driver. How much power can you exploit out of a car anyway. Gear wise uhmmm can see the disappointment in Adrian's face when turning the corners. Daily or not... this car needs to be a manual to be a proper thoroughbred. 🤩👍
Makes perfect sense to choose Auto if owns only 1 car for daily use. 95% of your time u drive slowly n face traffic jam. Spirited driving u only do in weekend.
Sedara aku terpaksa jual Golf GTi MK 6. Beli HRV. Sbb anak masuk 2. Bila aku tanya. Best ke HRV? Di senyum. Kau menyesal k jual Golf? Dia slamba jwb ha aa. Depan bini dia. Ha Ha.
Perception could always be misleading. For most driving on open roads the auto gear is responsive enough and it's quick far by average drivers, especially making use of the paddle shifters (overriding the auto). I owned and drove the GT86 Auto for 3 years and did only 9,000km (it's obviously not my only car). It's not a fast car by today's standard, but fundamentally was a sports car by design. You can't deny how agile it's till first thing you may upgrade will be the stock rotor and brake pad and tires. Adrian should recall how he understeered the Golf R before hitting the curb at Sepang Circuit (that caused traction control error) - what I am trying to say is this would not happen with the rear wheel drive 86 .. haha
Sometimes nowadays people always want auto for convenient driving days, unless they really an old school that gentle hardcore then they would always for manual 😂
There's a "manual" option down there. What's the problem? 😂 Can one really tell if a car is auto or manual from the outside? Is 2 door MORE practical than a SUV? No. Is auto MORE practical than a manual? Yes. There's a very compelling reason if and when even Lamborghini dropped the stick. If a transmission is all you cared for and you're gonna disregard the rest of car, the build, the engine, the aesthetics, chances are you need to reevaluate your priorities.
The major subtraction of "fun" from this car, just because an owner wants to drive it in traffic without using his left foot, is really hard to swallow.
Nothing wrong with buying an AT if that’s the owner’s preference and money right? If you think a 86/BRZ should only be owned with a MT, then why not go ahead and buy one?
@@MrPaganizonda not disrespecting but I'm telling it like it is 😅. It's not hard or scary to daily drive a manual, if you haven't tried then you'll never know. If your excuse is that or my wife wanna drive the car boleh lagi la faham.
