Lovely camera I wish Nikon would make one I would buy it to compliment my D750. The fact that it does nice HD (I don't shoot 4K) and is compact light has excellent AF and stabalisation makes it pretty unique. Well done Canon from a Nikon shooter.

Hi! Unfortunately the low power Bluetooth transmitter will only allow you to trigger the camera. You don't have the capability of connecting a pair of Bluetooth headphones. If you are going to connect an external mic to the camera, you would have to purchase an external audio mixer that provides a headphone port to monitor the audio.

How good is the LCD? Most of the flagship mirrorless cameras have 1M dot LCDs while M5 has 1.6M dot. Is it really that much better (visibly better) espacially in bright sunlight?
Hi! The LCD is sharp and easy to read. Touch function is fast and responsive. It's easy to see in bright light. there are 5 levels of brightness for the screen that could be adjusted in the menu. Remember the camera comes with a high-resolution electronic viewfinder if viewing on the LCD is difficult.
You should have mentioned about changing the focus sensor size. The default is just too large. Can it be smaller so its more precise ? That was my biggest issue with the older Canon M series. How about zooming on the display in for more accurate focusing. By the way how is the 1080P video quality ? I have the A6300 and it overheated too many times on me looking at EOSM5 or G85.
Hi there! Yes, you can change the AF Point size. To change the size you will have to tap the AF focus point selector button (underneath the * button on the right-hand side of the camera) this will activate the option on the screen where you could either use the touch screen to change the size or the command wheel on the top of the camera. Now, to zoom on the display you can hit the AF selection button and rotate the command dial on the top of the camera (around the shutter release button) it will magnify the image on the screen to achieve critical focus. So far the video looks great. You get beautiful skin tones, the white balance seems to be spot on, and the dual pixel AF works really well. We haven't had a chance to do a thorough test so I can not speak of any issues regarding overheating, but I don't see that to be an issue with this camera. The issue with the Sony is that it is processing a 6k image and downscaling it to a 4k image so all that processing power plus the battery creates a lot of heat.
yeah, I know. But its still annoying to go through the pairing/link process each time I want to use it on my tripod.. Plus, there is lag on the secondary screen. :( Besides, I shouldn't need a $900 phone to compensate for something that, to me at least, seems like common sense (to have a side articulating screen). silly canon....put a side screen and 4K on this bad boy and it would be the perfect camera.
Well, comparing the features to the ones of the G85 it falls short (no IBIS, no weather sealing, no 4k, very few native lenses, weak kit lens-plastic mount, no weather sealing, way shorter range) not to mention the price 😉 The M5 would be a good camera but for the right price (a little under or around the price of E-M10 II, or X-T10). Who buys an interchangeable lens camera buys in fact into a system (native lenses, flases, etc.).

astigace The eos 80d is faster and more durable than the eos m5, the canon ef-m to ef adapter wont offer you the same autofocus speed, and there are no really fast or tele ef-m lenses.

Hi Jarred! Canon came up with a great alternative for vlogging, since the M5 can record at 60 FPS at 1080. Just consider using your smartphone or an external screen as your main monitor if you record yourself with the camera on a tripod. (19:16)
I got the m5 on yesterday, i'm new to photography so i used the camera indoors on a+ and i didn't change the settings...my images came out great quality but bit a bit dark is there something i need to do or is this normal? the same images came out lighter on my iphone 7plus
Hi there! It might be because the screen brightness on the phone is set to max, while the default screen brightness is set midway. If you go into the settings you can adjust the screen brightness in 5 steps. It is most likely it is set at 3.

Well, if you go with the Sony you'll notice they have zero native lenses, the AF on the M5 seems to be much better, the A6300 has had some overheating issues, and it's soon to be discontinued since it was replaced by much more expensive A6500. As far as micro 4/3, they have the big native lens selection so far, but remember the M5 has all the EF and EFS lenses with the M adapter. The A6300 is geared more to the video 4K craze crowd.

I don't work for canon, nor am I defending a purchase, and I'm sure as hell not brand loyal. If you don't like that the consumer camera market is bottoming out stop buying 12 megapixel smart phones. I agree though it's missing the standard (should be standard) 4K. And adding sensor stabilization for still pics would have made it worth the price.

4K actually does work well in a small camera (Sony a6500). The way they designed the rear screen to come forward is mostly useless with a tripod.

Hi Lino, no , it only works on the LCD, but it makes sense since its easier in a 3.2 screen.

Nice thorough review. I am really liking my M5. But no screen while tripod mounting is SOOOOOO annoying. Will need to get an L-bracket I guess. :(
