This man is the reason why Gambit became iconic.
How? Nothing happened with Gambit after this.
I agree n the guy who drew him, Jim lee?
You're obviously not an X-Men fan if you don't know how hugely popular Gambit is as a character...
@@ghostchick5275 He only became really popular because of the 90s cartoon, he was never an important character in the comics....heck, the writers have been trying to get rid of him since 1996 or so.
Lmao bullshit... Xmen #1 became the best selling comic of all time... and still holds those records. This guy helped expand hia fandom. But Jim Lee, Chris Claremont... they thrust Gambit into popularity. Facts
"I am not Thief. I am not Assassin. I am an X-Man. And I'm never comin' back." Greatest Gambit lines in the series.
agreed
Absolutely!!!
I dunno, “First you charge the card...” is pretty iconic.
i think the exact line is.
" I am no thief, I am no Assassin. I am an X-Man and I'm never comin' back" -Gambit.
Oef Cher maybe you cut out that fried chicken heh😋
“The name is Gambit....remember it!”
And yes we did
"First we charge da card.....
Then we blow it up!" 💥🃏
@@jbFromNYC "Five Card Stud! Jack's are better to open!"
Too bad X Men main movies didn't remember
Mon ami
Best line ever
He looks like he coulda played gambit in the real life movie...good looking guy....he’s aged very well
Yeah it has to be said , he's 60 and yet he looks in his early 50's. Nice guy as well , he mentioned on the Q&A about how he liked the cartoon didnt insult children's intelligence. You could tell the way the said it it wasn't just to sound smart , it came from the heart.
Yh Chris would have been perfect in the films when he was younger. He's ruggedly good looking and he was familiar with the character so he'd know the approach. Heck even at 60 he makes a much better Gambit then Taylor Kisch.
@@28098610w maybe now with disney owning x-men they can have multiverse as they plan and he can play the old gambit from a dystopian future. I'd love it
indeed, i thought in an instant this grey haired guy looks really great and I thought he looks like Gambit.
I know right!
If you look at his profile it almost looks like that modelled some of Gambit's appearance on him.
@@Immortal_Liberty omg him and rogue old and in the future ! So beautiful
"There's value in not dumbing down your audience just because they're young people "
He looks like an older Gambit
exactly what a was thinking, like Gambit's father who trained him to be a THIEF
XD
@@GothicXlightning If they ever make an animated or live-action Gambit movie, Chris should play as Gambit's father.
He could be the witness or gambit 2099
was thinking the same thing.
Actually he looks more like Magneto. His younger self looked like Gambit.
'Everyone can relax! Gambit... has returned.'
Assassin!!!
@@jackoneill2562 woop woop whatttt
Classic
They should let him play Gambit's father in the Marvel incarnation. Jean-Luc LeBeau
That would extremely awesome and epic.. this guy looks phenomenal
He def looks like he can play an Age of Apocalypse Gambit
LMAO. When you said "Jean Luc LeBeau" my mind went back to the Mad Tv sketch about International Coffees ☕. Check it out if you haven't already 😉."
I agree ❤️
If Gambit standalone movie ever revives, it'd be perfect idea to have Taylor Kitsch as current version of Gambit, and either have Chris Potter play as older version of Gambit (maybe for Age of Apocalypse era when Gambit go time travel) or play as Gambit's father. It'll not be a bad idea to have Mr. Sinister as a main villain to his movie.
Anybody seeing this after X-Men '97 Episode 5? 😢😢😭😭😭😭
We haven’t seen the last of Gambit I have a feeling cable will find a way of bringing him back
Yes I’m still sad he dies
That show is garbage
He made the character his, now he's the only voice we think of when we think of Gambit
Great interview. Gambits voice is why I had/have a crush on an animated character 😍
The ONLY voice of Gambit! He made this character iconic and dear to me. Thank you, Mr. Potter!
He's a true legend ,and he likes to talk but I haven't heard him do Gambit's voice outside the series 🤔
Tony Daniels is also a great Gambit in the Marvel Vs Capcom games.
@@Batz130 Nowhere else for him to do it.
What about Tony Daniels?
If he was younger, he would be perfect for a live action Gambit.
Yeah, he would.
Let's not get carried away.
@@AnointedFlow he already has the voice, and the looks he is just too old. If he was 25-30ish he would have been great for a live action Gambit.
@@user-jy2tt9gc9b maybe. Again, let's not get carried away over nothing that will happen. The most action he has done was Kung Fu: The Legend Continues.
@@AnointedFlow carried away? man it was just an opinion and a comment. I said ''if'' that ship has long sailed.
Chris to this day is the definitive voice of Gambit his Cajun accent is on point
And while people argue that he sounds more Creole, I don't think that they'd generally speaking in an accent more clearly Cajun.
@@kencoleman5007 huh?
He just mixed southern and French accent together lol he’s never heard a Cajun accent and winged it. So it’s quite good.
I'm from New Orleans and there ain't no Creole accent, only Creole food. Cajun is hillbilly French with southern American twang. This voice actor nailed it. If he spoke like a Cajun no damn body would've understood a word
I had such a *crush* on that Gambit, due to this voice actor. Looking at him now....I'm not disappointed. ;)
SAME! Saaaaammmmeeee!!
Still love Gambit 🥰
Silver Fox !!! Wonder what he looked like back then too
@@MsKitcloudkickerhe had a tv show in Canada, Kung Fu the legend continues with David Carradine who was Bill in Kill Bill
Heartland. 20 plus seasons and still going strong.
The comics made me like Gambit. The cartoon made him my favorite X-Man.
i loved Gambit...he was the coolest among the dudes in the team.
Agreed
"The Name is *GAMBIT,* Remember It!"
I Remember that Scene
He IS Gambit!
I hope Chris realizes how much he means to people like me.
The voice of Gambit on genosha
“Everyone can relax now, Gambit is here to answer your questions.” Chris Potter, the one and only voice of Gambit. Others are great but he’s the best!
Just as handsome and suave as Gambit himself. He nailed Gambit, no one else comes close.
Man.. I wish he gotten a roll in the movies
"Cajuns" are actually directly related to Acadian French Canadians who migrated to the US during the "Expulsion of Acadians". So knowing now the actor is Canadian almost makes it a full circle moment.
Yeah, that’s awesome. You can tell how natural the Gambit accent is for him with the French undertone he grew up around.
The Christmas episode where Gambit and Jean were arguing over Christmas dinner was the most hilarious moment from the series.
Yes! His criticism of Jean's cooking is hilarious!
he saw that northern whites no seasoning cooking and lost his shit lol
“This needs a little Gambit magic” 😂
Holy cow! He looks like a real life Gambit, but older!
The only Gambit I hear when I read my books. His performance in X-Ternally Yours where he speaks about the 300 year feud between the Guild of Thieves and Guild of Assassins. That is one of my favorite vocal performances of his because you can hear his incredulity about it still going on.
King Blizzy my favourite bit is later in the same episode where he says “I am not their nor assassin, I am an x man, and I’m never coming back”
"incredulity about it still going on", you are ABSOLUTELY correct. I got chills by how spot on your post was. Kudos to you.
X-Men: Bloodties , highly recommended
Best gambit voice ever..
If Disney+ makes a show or a movie that shows the future, would be cool they cast him as an older version of Gambit, just a little tribute, he deserves it.
"I like solitaire ok, unless...I got someone..to play with." Gambit was a player and he is the ONLY Gambit. Edit: We grew up watching this and completely appreciated it's depth even at the time being 10 years old. It wasn't lost on us. I loved Gambit before but this guy is just great.
That line still makes my knees go weak.
So cute that he mentioned Gambit's love for Rogue and his need to be loved. That fact did shape the character and made us all love him even more. Because as the actor said, don't we all need to be loved?
And oh my God, could only imagine him back in the day, he does look like Gambit!
Right?? Like he's Gambit, aged. Still handsome and smooth.
Go check out his 90s Canadian show “Kung Fu the legend continues”
He had the sexiest x-men with that sexy Cajun Gambit voice.
Chris Potter is and will always be the voice of Gambit in my head! Nobody can give a better Gambit accent than Mr. Potter. I tip my hat to him for his great voice in voicing my favorite XMan Gambit.
Gambit: You go on, Gambit'll hold 'em off.
Beast: We might not be able to wait for you.
Gambit: So 'den Gambit become the first x-man in orbit.
I loved that last line.
"Now we play a new game...and it's Gambit's deal"
House wins...
Kung-Fu the Lengend Continues
Yes!
It took me a moment to recognize him but I am blown away. Like learning that Shredder was voiced by James Avery.
@@jordanbetteridge1598 AKA Uncle Phil from fresh Prince of Bel-Air
It’s gnarly how it’s not even on his banner.
Oh shit. That is him. Totally didn’t realize this was the same dude.
♦️♠️"First we cha'ge deh card... Den we blow it up!"
“The name is Gambit....remember it!” Cable must go back in time in X-Men 97 and bring him and magneto back.
Man he’s a got swag for sure I like that jacket and hair
*The name is Gambit.... Remember it!!*
Wow. He looks like I would expect Gambit to look like as an older man. I so wish he could’ve played Gambit in the movies. Seems like he really loves and cares about the character. Very charming and handsome too. ♥️🃏
"Don'tchall leave now, the fun just started"
Yeah I remember that line when he said that.
His response at around 4:55 to about 6:10 is just so good. This guy understands what the X-Men are about. It's why his performance was so good.
He does look like gambit
All the voices in the X-Men animated series were perfect.
If there ever were a Gambit standalone movie, I'd love to see Taylor Kitsch return as Gambit while let Chris Potter to play either as older version of Gambit or as Gambit's father.
This is why I laugh when people give credit to Ryan Reynolds for chasing down a role for 9 years. By all means, he got it and Im glad for him. However, it's definitely a Channing Tatum "Here, hold my gumbo" moment.
Dude has been chasing Gambit since 2005, when he was originally cast as him for the third Xmen movie. Which is ironically, Gambit being cut from the movie for special effects budget, is how he was cast in She's the Man, with Amanda Bynes. As an apology from the producer.
That being said, every time the movie is greenlit, he is cast (Save for W:O where Taylor Kitsch played his dream role, because I think he was filming GI Joe), yet only to go nowhere. Then... FINALLY, it was actually going to happen.
Two years after the last time but it was coming togther with serious effort. With the success of Deadpool, it showed that you can have a successful "Xmen movie" without the Xmen... or Wolverine. Kind of like what Sony is doing with Morbius, Venom and Madame Web. So Fox was moving behind it to make it sort of in the same vein as Deadpool. Not the comedy, but that dark, Rated R action, like with New Mutants. Then Disney bought them.
We miss you moname
Gambit is my favorite X-men so cool
Amazing voice gambit was my favorite X-men
He looks like Gambit.
Now when they get 2 making the live action movie of Gambit they should have Mr. Potter play his father as a way of honoring him for playing the voice in the animated series Food for thought
Anthony Brown Jr. Great idea, mon ami
When he was younger he probably looked like Gambit.
Yes he did. Grew up watching him on TV. He was the cop “Peter” the son of David Carradine. I was so in love with him! One time in one episode someone asked him if he would’ve liked to be like Agent Mulder (he was playing a cop). It was sooooo funny, being a fan of the X-Files too at the same time. Man, nineties were SOMETHING else (of course along with the 80’s)
Oh My God!
I have been crushing on That voice since the 90s. It is made Gambit who he is for me and I've been in love with the character ever since 😍
So yeah, Thank you! 🤗

When he says that gambit just wanted to be loved and to love and everything before that, man I felt that. Gambit was always one of my favorites. now that I started watching it again as an adult, I feel like I can relate to the gambit character. Thank you Chris potter for being the best dam gambit the world will ever have the pleasure of experiencing.
Best voice...such a sexy character.
He seems like such a cool guy and he made some really good points about the writing/ plot of the x-men cartoon. I always loved his voice as gambit!!!
Life don't get much better than this!
🙏 Thank you for this! Almost forgot!!! 🙏
I don't know a thing about Gambit or the X-Men, but I adore Chris Potter, and wow, he is still soooo gorgeous. What a silver fox! 😍😍😍🐺❤
I love that he really understood Gambit's character. That's a true passion. What a great guy & to get choked up over caring about your character & his relationships & his struggles... that's why he was so great at portraying the character. Gambit & Rogue are my favorite.
Best Gambit, best X-men adaptation.
The reason why Gambit became my favorite all time animated character and still is to this day. Wish he would've been gambit in all the shows, and movies too.
He also played the role of Peter Caine from Kung Fu: The Legend Continues.
OMG I never realized that was the same actor!
@@ghostchick5275 yup
And he was dr david on queer as folk
OH SHIT! I didn't even realize that...now looking at him I can definitely see it and I definitely would if his hair was black.
That's where I first saw him. And fell head over heels in love! 😍🤪😁
I'm Cajun and always thought his accent was way off but still very charming!
Everyone can relax...Gambit has returned.
That voice and his betrayal was literally one of the major reasons why Gambit is my all-time favorite X-Men
He's coming back
Don't Mess With The Xmen-Gambit
The only gambit I'll accept
Your voice made me fall in love with Gambit. And I still am in love until now.
Oh I wish we got to see him play a live-action Gambit!
DAMN he looks like he could be Gambit's father
love my X-MEN and Gambit is hands down one of my fav X
90s X-MEN it will never stop from been a crucial event of my life
Subbed you in the name of X-MEN bro
Thanks so much! We hope to do more in the future if we can
woah I had no idea this guy was Gambit
Imagine if he got to play Gambit on the big screen, might of made that movie great
wow there is a resemblance and he is very handsome.
He seems like such a swell guy! I hope he knows how beloved he is for his contribution to the series.
Gambit was my favorite X-men character. He was suave and cool as hell. I loved his outfit too. Every time I read a Gambit comic I hear Chris Potter's voice.
Definitely His Staff and the kentic charging cards
He's so handsome it's literally ridiculous
I love Chris Potter❤️💙💚💜
Chris Potter said it best the xmen writters didnt dumb down the show for kids they knew we wete smart 90s kids and teens best writting ever gold star
He could play a real life Gambit.
He IS Gambit.
I wanted him to do Gambit's voice
First, you charge the card.
Then you blow it up!
Everyone can relax! Gambit...has returned!
And He looks like Gambit.
or Gambit looks like him.
I had such a crush on Gambit because of Chris Potter's voice in the animated series. 💗
Cool! Caine's son (Kung Fu) is the voice of Gambit!
Makes sense for him to use his familiarity of Québecois to develop the Cajun accent
Proud the most successful person to have ever come out of x-men.Dude was in Kung fu he saved silk stockings and his run on heartland. And he was the bad guy in pacifier and played Fred Trump.
So, Gambit is hot.
I could see him playing an older gambit in a MCU version of the future, his voice would floor people.
Being Canadian you would think Wolvie would be my favorite, but no, it's Gumbo all the way. Everyone is always all about his relationship with Rogue, but I love his relationship with Jubilee much more. "You miss me petite? I reckon so!" He is much more of a father and role model to her then all of them. I think he understands her more then anyone else , and is much more open with her despite all his trepidations with the rest. They tried to bring that same feeling into the first X-Men movie with the bond between Wolverine and Rogue. I was in my 20's when it came out, I am 48 now , I loved it then and I love it now, I will never be bored of it. Just one simple phrase " Previously On X-Men" And then that epic intro is all that is needed to have my full attention.
"Everyone can relax, Gambit has returned".
He will always be Gambit to me so if they ever use Gambit again in a show or movie, I hope they use him. I would pay to see and hear him as Gambit whether he fought or not. Even with his awesome hair here, he could even play the cartoon version of Magneto. Glad he mentioned never dumbing down the show and the relationship with Rogue. As a fan of their romance, when they got to kiss w/o their powers, golden moment.
Thanks for this video, really cool to see an interview with him. Seems like such a down to earth, insightful, and humble guy. An actor who truly gets the content and the audience. Also, he will always be Peter Caine from KUNG-FU The Legend Continues as well!
Whenever I read comics w gambit, it’s always his voice I use in my head for gambit.
I hear all of their voices when I read the comics. Except Jean grey. For some reason I always disliked her voice in the cartoon.
Chris is so incredibly hot after all these years.
"Well I have nothing else to do." Awesome
FKN nailed gambit!!! i love every episode he's in!!!
He was amazing in Queer as Folk. I had NO IDEA he played Gambit lol
I wish Chris Potter would have said something in Gambit's voice.
Oh my, he even looks like Gambit! Be still my heart 💗. He will forever be my favorite Cajun.
Damn no wonder why Gambit had the effect. Dude is fine as fuck
Cool guy. Good job
He needs to be part of the casting for Gambit for future X-Men films
XMen '97 🎉
