- Diving deep into what Marvel fans can expect from X-Men 97, the cast of the animated Disney Plus series sit down with Akeem Lawanson and IGN. Cal Dodd (original voice of “Wolverine”), Lenore Zann (original voice of “Rogue”), Holly Chou (the new voice of “Jubilee”), A.J. LoCascio (the new voice of “Gambit”), and Ray Chase (the new voice of “Cyclops”) discuss what it feels like to see the return of the series, the challenges they faced, and the attraction of the original X-Men animated series. The original #XMen animated series did such a great job of adapting some classic X-Men story lines, and now we get to see new stories being told and forged in the classic style of the original series.

Would have been an a miracle if Cyclops's actor did return, considering he passed away in 2020.
Gambit has been recast, though his OG voice actor will still be apart of the series as Cable.

Wolverine is one of the few fictional characters to have a perfectly cast voice actor & perfectly cast movie actor play him. Cal even looks like a real life wolverine
The craziest thing about Cal is that he used to be a David Cassidy-type pop singer in the 70's.

Cal Dodd will always be Wolverine's voice in my mind. X-Men the Animated Series and the Capcom Marvel fighting games cemented Cal into Wolverine's character.

She was shoved because originally in the comics, it was Kitty Pryde/Shadowcat who was in her place. They got Jubilee instead after the first pilot flopped.

My theory on how Rogue and Magneto could "touch" is once she has some of his powers, she instinctively creates a magnetic force with the same polarity as his. They are two magnets pushing each other apart & that gives her the sensation of touch without actually touching.

I'm curious as to why they didn't let Chris Potter play Gambit. Imo he's just as iconic as Rogue or Wolverine's voice.
Catherine Disher also curiously didn't reprise her role as Jean Grey either.
Even weirder is Chris Potter is still part of this new show but voicing a different character. Maybe he's busy doing other things and cannot commit fulltime.
@@fv6125 Chris Potter actually voices Cable in the new series instead of Gambit. Catherine Disher is in the new series as well, she voices Valerie Cooper. It's strange that both came back to the new series but didn't reprise their old roles.

Not all the OG voices are gone. Most like OG Gambit (Chris Potter) and OG Julibee are voicing other characters because one thing or another. For instance, Chris Potter will voice Cable and OG Cable voiced X-Cutioner.
Well, x men 97 is the first project of Marvel in being considered a masterpiece since endgame, so, get ready, u're gonna be around for a while guys!! this has to last at least 10 seasons!! fan base is gonna support this and not let it go

It’s nice to have the original voices for Wolverine, Rogue, Storm, & Beast back after so long. If they really planned of bringing back Spider-Man TAS, it should be called Spider-Man 98. Because that is when the show last ended. Be nice for the old voices for Peter, Cat, Venom, Carnage, & Norman to finished where they left off. While probably having some new voices for the other characters. Like having MJ, Harry, Dr.Connors, & Doc Ock being voiced by their voices from Ultimate Spider-Man.

Wolverine and Rogue's voices along with Storm's are arguably the most iconic ones in the show.
I'm very surprised to hear them say they were unaware until 3 years in it was a hide. It was a massive phenomenon before the 1st season ended.
To answer the question about future seasons: I'd introduce the Phalanx Covenant/Generation X. It calls for the (re)introduction of Emma (and her associated drama with Scott/Jean), the romantic tension between her and Banshee, and the formation of Generation X--the big new title introduced in the mid 90's. We'd also see a bunch of characters new to the canvas, like Skin, M, Synch, and Penance. This could also start a spinoff with Jubilee headlining.
The Age of Apocalypse would also be awesome as well. We'd see revamped relationships (Magneto and Rogue are not only together, but have a kid), new characters (Nate Grey/Dark Beast--well, maybe not him), and an epic, possibly seasons-long storyline.

Most animated series I've grown out of, but X-Men '97 is genuinely engaging. Just picked up the entire original series and look forward to watching it again.
