It's crazy how people who never knew a time when Marvel was propped up by X-Men are now all in. That's right, Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk were B list heroes during the 90s.
Throw in Spiderman. X-Men and Spiderman video games were the rage, they carried Marvel. No one cared for Captain America and Iron Man video games...
Right? What I love about those '90s animated series: X-Men, Spider-Man, The Fantastic Four, Iron Man, and The Incredible Hulk, and Silver Surfer - all of those are the MCU before the MCU. The cameos and cross-over episodes in those series were great and as a kid back then, it blew my mind to see many of my favorite heroes share the same screen at the same time.
Hulk was A list the other avengers were strong B listers but b list nonetheless
Marvel wasn't even propped up by X-Men/Spidey since they gave up the film rights.

Rewatching this cartoon gives you a real appreciation for Cal Dodd, the voice actor for Wolverine. He managed to get out some truly heinous one-liners without compromising the menacing vibe of the character... much.

Growing up with thia as my standard for X-men left me VERY confused by how much love the first two movies got. No team battles, none of what made the cartoon so sprawling and engaging. It seriously wasn't until Avengers that I felt a superhero movie met the standard set by this cartoon.
Like I’ve bought into the idea these people have insane superpowers, you can give them their colorful costumes.. I’m still bought in lol
I still like the Statue of Liberty mission with the team in the first film. It was about the most they gave Cyclops to do out of that whole original trilogy before having to quickly write him off right at the beginning of Last Stand.
Even in the 2000s I think Sam Raimi's Spider-Man met more of the fan expectations of having a "comic booky" look compared to what Fox was wanting to go for with X-Men at the time. Though I did always feel like Raimi dropped the ball when it came to Venom in SM3, but as the story goes it wasn't his initial plan to have to feature him in that one anyway.

I forgot how much stuff happened in season 1. No wonder I was glued to the tv every time this show came on. Amazing.

Best cartoon an 8 year old in the 90's could have ever asked for. Followed by Spider-Man, damn the 90's were awesome. Except for the music, grunge and college alt-rock never tickled my fancy.

So they got this wrong actually. His name is actually Graydon Creed, while Victor is Sabertooth's real name.
@ComixCentral they changed it to Victor Creed Sr and Jr for the sake of an obvious enough reveal for young viewers and for the bigoted goons to instantly call him a mutant lover.
They refer to him as Graydon in the series, stop spreading cap to our fellow mutants @@NotInTheFace111

First season was so bonkers, i couldnt resist when i was 7. Its one of the best 90s shows, pushing equality, acceptance, and bravery. Add in early multiverse timelines and intriguing social issues and its one of the best positive messages you can have as a kid. Ill be watching '97 with a measured response.
used to hurry home from middle and high school to watch weekly episodes of this show..... when you recap it all so fast its crazy impressive how many GREAT storylines there were. Like one after another. The voice acting is so perfect. Wolverine being the most iconic.
Xmen started my freshman year of high school. My older brother was very impressed and it gave us something to bond over.

I've been rewatching the entire old X-Men Animated Series in preparation for X-Men 97, and I got to say I really liked the Phoenix Saga and the Dark Phoenix Saga in season 3. I really enjoyed revisiting the show, and I'm really glad this story and these X-Men are getting a continuation to their story! I'm so EXCITED!!!! X-Men 97 sounds amazing and like everything I wanted it to be! I'm so hyped!

The first episode needs to start with PREVIOUSLY ON X-MEN if they are doing it right. Of course with a recap for the end of the 90s show.
I enjoyed the first episode, they even kept the Jean fainting everytime she tries to read someones mind trope going haha.

I remember the age of apocalypse storyline when i was a kid. I was so excited for every comic that whole story. That was the best comic event ever IMO...

I loved Age of Apocalypse but I gotta say my favorite comic crossover was a street level event Spider-Man's Maximum Carnage! They were the first comic books I ever read (so I'm probably a little biased) and I only had 3 or 4 parts of the 14 issue story and I had to hunt down the rest which turned me into a huge comic book nerd for the rest of my life 😂❤ Venom and Carnage were and still are personal favorites. Doppelganger, Carrion and DemoGoblin along with Mommy (Shriek) and Daddy (Carnage) together made the perfectly demented supervillain family.... And I believe they slaughtered a good percentage of the Manhattan population if I remember correctly! 😂☠️

This was a great recap my brother. I loved watching this series growing up. But I always hated how the 5th season seemed rushed and watered down.
I’m watching season 5 now and idk what is going on here. Storm fell in love with a man she barely knew and we have a Robin Hood story for episode 5? wtf is going on here. The show could’ve ended at season 4 when they beat Apocalypse

Creed is best character he hates where he come from I wish they do a live series on guy. In comics version Mystique leave him only to raise by normal parents but she keeps an eye on him. He a normal human, some reason or other Sabretooth gets his hands on him and hatred begins.

I grew up with this show, my dad recorded the lady deathstrike/Phoenix lead up on vhs after school. IT WAS THE BIGGEST EVENT OF MY LIFE at the time. I never really understood the themes or story lines so I am very grateful for videos like this one that make me go "oh that's what was going on"

In 7 Episodes, so much happens, i love this show. They just treat you like you're not an idiot, and it doesn't matter if you didn't understand the concepts as a kid.

Wow, this takes me back to the carefree days of the 90's, before anyone knew who Hugh Jackman was, before it was trendy to watch comic book movies on the big screen, there was this cartoon series with good writing & voice acting. My favorite episode was the Bishop story arc going back in time and the high tech Sentinel from the future.
Thank you so much for this. I didn't follow X-Men super closely when it came out but all these bits and pieces from random episodes came flooding back to me watching this recap.

you got a bunch of important names very wrong.
Victor is GRAYDON CREED, and Victor is Sabretooth's first name... (although, for some reason, they call him a different name in this episode).
Lady Deathstrike's name is YURIKO. Her origin is changed slightly to be somewhat in line with Mariko, but they are completely different people
This video was so helpful. I was a young adult who loved superhero stuff, but I realized I watched most all of these episodes other than the final season. I'm looking forward to the new show!
This is literally perfectly edited, to the point, and actually super funny without being over the top with it to where it interrupts the information being given! I absolutely loved it.
I mean, the plot alone, so fantastic when it's so grand. "You're a fool, Charles" "stop Magneto from launching missiles at HUMANITY" and then I totally lost it at the narration of "charles went to battle by making his best friend relive the holocaust" which just had me rolling.

Thank God you made a recap because I couldn't watch wolverine make any more bad jokes and NEVER USE HIS CLAWS lol reminds me of spiderman not being aloud to throw punches in his show.
It always felt like his bark was worst than his bite. And also always chasing after jean was annoying too.
One thing I hope they dont keep going with is the cheesey environmental one liners that seem to be shoehorened in ever few lines.

Watching this recap is a wonderful reminder of how much I loved this series as a kid, and how moved I was by the heroes' compassion, struggle, and nobility. Such a great show.

I realize now my childhood memories of watching xmen (I thought I watched 50-100 episodes) … was actually 5-10 episodes in random seasons never in proper order and maybe the same episodes multiple times …
I have been a fan of this series since it first aired, and saw all the episodes (some many times) but never in order as they were not broadcast in order on my local network tv. So thank you for making this video. A definitely appreciated refresher after almost 30 years

That scene when Apocalypse was fighting Cable then completely stopped cause he had a revelation always gets me 😂
Seasons 1-3 of the Animated Series live rent free in my mind and are INCREDIBLE. I don't recall ever watching the 4th season as a kid but really liked the 4 part showdown with Apocalypse. I didn't know that was supposed to be the end of the series. It definitely felt final so I found it odd when the show came back and looked completely different.
