It's crazy how people who never knew a time when Marvel was propped up by X-Men are now all in. That's right, Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk were B list heroes during the 90s.
Right? What I love about those '90s animated series: X-Men, Spider-Man, The Fantastic Four, Iron Man, and The Incredible Hulk, and Silver Surfer - all of those are the MCU before the MCU. The cameos and cross-over episodes in those series were great and as a kid back then, it blew my mind to see many of my favorite heroes share the same screen at the same time.

First season was so bonkers, i couldnt resist when i was 7. Its one of the best 90s shows, pushing equality, acceptance, and bravery. Add in early multiverse timelines and intriguing social issues and its one of the best positive messages you can have as a kid. Ill be watching '97 with a measured response.
Me before the video: "Oh, convenient, I can just watch this instead of re-watching the whole series from when I was 12." Me at about 20mins in: "Never mind, this looks sick, I need to go re-watch this." lol
Rewatching this cartoon gives you a real appreciation for Cal Dodd, the voice actor for Wolverine. He managed to get out some truly heinous one-liners without compromising the menacing vibe of the character... much.
Growing up with thia as my standard for X-men left me VERY confused by how much love the first two movies got. No team battles, none of what made the cartoon so sprawling and engaging. It seriously wasn't until Avengers that I felt a superhero movie met the standard set by this cartoon.
I still like the Statue of Liberty mission with the team in the first film. It was about the most they gave Cyclops to do out of that whole original trilogy before having to quickly write him off right at the beginning of Last Stand. Even in the 2000s I think Sam Raimi's Spider-Man met more of the fan expectations of having a "comic booky" look compared to what Fox was wanting to go for with X-Men at the time. Though I did always feel like Raimi dropped the ball when it came to Venom in SM3, but as the story goes it wasn't his initial plan to have to feature him in that one anyway.
Cap: Here’s a pack of cigarettes too, in accordance with your people’s ways. Wolverine: Uh... Cap: We should respect the traditions of other cultures, you know. And I think I know someone who deserves a extra large serving of poutine with maple syrup once this mission is over!

I appreciate this deep dive as an awesome refresher... BUT-- you got a bunch of important names very wrong. Victor is GRAYDON CREED, and Victor is Sabretooth's first name... Her origin is changed slightly to be somewhat in line with Mariko, but they are completely different people

Watching this recap is a wonderful reminder of how much I loved this series as a kid, and how moved I was by the heroes' compassion, struggle, and nobility. Such a great show.
All the episodes where people find out that they're related are my favorite episodes. The Drama!!
That's the secret sauce in comic books - the soap opera!
Sabertooth is the alpha mutant evidently
I remember loving to watch the first and third season as a kid, unfortunually i didnt watch the second season, this helps me know more of S2!
I appreciate this deep dive as an awesome refresher... BUT--
you got a bunch of important names very wrong.
Victor is GRAYDON CREED, and Victor is Sabretooth's first name... (although, for some reason, they call him a different name in this episode).
Lady Deathstrike's name is YURIKO. Her origin is changed slightly to be somewhat in line with Mariko, but they are completely different people
“You were born” damn. Still bone chilling and the most streamlined articulation of this bigotry and hatred that persists to this day for countless groups of people. Sadly people don’t learn or even see themselves in this.
I'm gonna have to watch this in 2 parts. I have to go buy some sweet cereal for when I watch X-Men 97. 😊 Thanks for the effort.
Sugar Smacks and Xmen, so g00d!
Morph=Robert Downey Jr before rehab
I was debating if I was gonna rewatch the whole series, but I dont have that much time, this is amazing thank you
I binged it like 2 weeks
YEAH, HE(( I NEED A NAP
NOW...😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
Came here to say this. Thanks for the recap!
I appreciate the time consuming work you put into this to get us ready for '97
Season 1 was so amazing. They to so many stories and really set up the rest of the series.
I can already feel the nostalgia even though I never existed in the 90’s
What's your favorite episode of TAS?
Pheonix saga
Rogue's tale
Beyond Good and Evil.
One Mans Worth.
When Jean first turned into the dark phoenix ❤️❤️
Just want to thank you for this video. The editing was done so nicely in a funny, informative, and nostalgic concise manner. Sooo cool to relive this epic series and recap everything that went down. I remembered so much but also forgot plenty. God I love the X-Men! Kudos to you!
Thank God you made a recap because I couldn't watch wolverine make any more bad jokes and NEVER USE HIS CLAWS lol reminds me of spiderman not being aloud to throw punches in his show.
It always felt like his bark was worst than his bite. And also always chasing after jean was annoying too.
One thing I hope they dont keep going with is the cheesey environmental one liners that seem to be shoehorened in ever few lines.
He uses his claws all the time, stop the cap
Sometimes it's robots and other times they're glancing blows
I'm not lieing lol I just hope he uses his claws more in the new series is all 💅
That was fantastic! That was exactly what I needed to get ready for X-Men '97! Thank you!
We paused playing outside when the X-Men came on and went right back outside afterwards. 90's = 🐐🐐🐐era
Ah man, you saved me so many rewatching hours, thank you! Now time to start watching X-Men 97...
Unlocking some serious core memories of my after school cartoon life.. ❤
This,came on Saturday mornings
I have been a fan of this series since it first aired, and saw all the episodes (some many times) but never in order as they were not broadcast in order on my local network tv. So thank you for making this video. A definitely appreciated refresher after almost 30 years
I realize now my childhood memories of watching xmen (I thought I watched 50-100 episodes) … was actually 5-10 episodes in random seasons never in proper order and maybe the same episodes multiple times …
Thank you Ryan. The memories and flashbacks to Sunday mornings were fantastic. That’s exactly what I needed to jumpstart into the new season.
"GLADIATOR!...How I've Missed ThePleasure of THRASHING You!"
- PHOENIX -
Gotta be smoking m'kraan crystals to think you can beat Phoenix
As a kid, this was the Saturday morning cartoon I looked forward to the most, but I probably never saw more than 20 episodes. This is pretty incredible and I deeply appreciate your effort. I now feel... closure.... thank you
24:09 the "Senitels"😂😂. Gotcha!
I came here to say this 😂
How dare you stare at my senitals @@specterknight3023
Do they usually come in pairs? Sounds like a hairy situation!
That scene when Apocalypse was fighting Cable then completely stopped cause he had a revelation always gets me 😂
@5:35 "This show is for kids?" 😂 I Love Doug
Sum up everything but that opening tune... That is the jam.
I remember watching this as a kid every day, every week and every time it came on in syndication. Along with the comics, this was and still is the best representation of the team outside comics and 97’ is definitely going to be watched while eating breakfast cereal lol
10:41 - I had an Omega Red action figure that I was absolutely *OBSESSED* with as a kid and stupidly lent it to a friend who then moved.
Lesson here, kids: never share with anyone.
Thanks for this
great trip down memory lane!
What's makes me happy is I can forget some episodes that we're trash, too over the top or not important and just put together what entertains me, along with the new episodes.
Wtf. I thought the story of season 1 was half of the entire show. That was just season 1 😮😮😮😮😮
😂😂😂😂
Same
Dude same!!!!
7:37 it’s jus a really satisfying shot and comic book accurate. The animators knew EXACTLY what they were doing and it’s how it supposed to be.
Is that the same MOJO world referenced by shatter star in Deadpool 2?
Yes!
16:37 : Love the fact that Gladiator is basically Superman with a mohawk. 😂 **But it is one of the best scenes of the series when he manhandles Juggernaut with ease.
Thank you! Was waiting for someone to do this!
Not all Heroes wear capes, Sir, and you are a HUGE Hero. Thanks for this great summary, I'm ready to watch the first 2 episodes of X-Men '97. Greetings from Argentina.
That "you were born" line hit hard back then.
"Oh? You got me a gift! Tank you!"
Also, Colossus. Dude. Ice-man, Shadowcat, Colossus and Sprite (and Lockheed). Ahhh. Chris Claremont and Peter David. Best X-Men writers...
The George Michael's Careless Whisper Hook is hilarious 😅😅
I watched this at 1.5x speed. 78 episodes in 25 minutes.
Awesome video! Spectacular!
X-men 90's cartoon is brilliant and I can't wait for X-men '97 this Wednesday. 😀👍
