I came here because I saw the news last month that the voice of Cyclops, Norm Spencer, had passed away. I wish I had gotten to meet everyone and got their autographs.
Aw no......cyc was actually my fav back in 92 in preschool. Untill I found wolverine but cyc and the eye beams were my fav at first...wow that really hurts. Rest in peace man.
A bit of irony here: The first animated Wolverine voice was just before the animated series with the failed pilot Pryde Of the X-Men in which Wolverine had an Australian accent. The arcade game was based off it as well. As fate would have it, Hugh Jackman is Australian learning how to sound American. Pryde Of the X-Men pilot: ruclips.net/video/E21a-0mywUc/видео.html
Even *before* Pryde of the X-Men, Wolvie made his first voiced appearance in Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends (“A Firestar Was Born”), and he *also* had an Australian accent.
My father was a biker man Lone Wolf type of guy. So of course Wolverine was my favorite when I saw that cartoon. Wolverine probably had some of the best ethics of all the characters. Even took it upon himself to be a father figure for Jubilee. And when it was time to get down his aggression was unmatched and his will was unmatched. Really reminded me of my dad especially the temper. Cals iconic perfect voice was like a cherry on top
Can we PLEASE get this guy to come back for just one more Wolvie role? He's coughing so much here its scaring me. Time is limited. Steve Blum is always gonna be Spike to me and no one else. Gotta get one more proper animated Wolverine cameo.
@@maxpops8427 oh cool. Hope they don't screw it up though. Animation needs to still have that era's style and the soundtrack can't be drastically different either. Lot of good background music in that show. I just don't have much faith in Disney lately.
Wow! He gave the best interview of the whole panel. And one of the best of all these Hollywood interviews. Thx U Cal for giving us a taste of the characters voice as well.
No. I was there, Gandalf, 3000 years ago. Wolverine was already plenty popular in the 80's. His self-titled comics run by Claremont and Frank Miller came out a decade before the Animated Series. Cal is the definitive voice, for sure, but he's far from being the only reason for Wolverine's popularity.
X-Men was everything to me when I was a kid. I was the quiet artistic kid who always got beat up for no reason. So it was good for me to see characters that were different, but strong.
Funny how I fell in love with the X-Men from people who didn't even know the who the X-Men were. Ironically and technically Wolverine was first voiced by an Australian in the "Pryde of the X-Men" pilot cartoon.
"I loved the Nightcrawler episode". I too have had fans of the show tell me about feeling connected to the show in their childhood. It was my first animated audition, and my first animated gig.
Hugh Jackman is a famous movie star Logan, Wolverine and X-men movies, Les Miserable and the Greatest Showman Voice actors Cal Dodd Steve Blum Scott McNeil
There was a Wolverine voice with the Pryde of The X-Men series. That series was not fully released and took 1-2 years before X-Men the animated series was released. The group, villains, voice actors are different. It had to do with the investors and all the shady stuff in the industries or how things actually are done. There was legal stuff that the management did not want to deal with. The fans, children and audience suffered. Just like the X-Men TV movie. Street Fighter the Animated series. Akumas voice also changed.
I sent him some fan mail back in February, I hope I get a response from him soon! Update on my 8 month old comment: I haven’t heard a reply through paper/pen mail, but, I was able to find his email address via his website and sent him a copy of the letter and picture through there and I was fortunate enough to get a reply from him!
George Buza knew about The X-Men and was completely aware of the character Hank Mccoy a.k.a Beast lol He even said that he grew up during the time of the first X-Men Comic Book came out.
What I really wish is Cal Dodd redo the lines in Pryde of the X-men so we don't have have to hear the Aussie Wolverine. Just him cause That was near perfect except Wolverine with an Australian accent.
There was a voice for Wolverine before him in another X-Men series that pre-dates TAS. They had some Australian guy voice the character. But Cal Dodd overshadows Hugh's vocals as Jimmy/Logan.
He's wrong. There was a voice for Wolverine back in an episode of Spiderman and his amazing friends in the 80s. However, the 90s voice is the most recognized.
Didnt that xmen pilot with wolverine having the Australian accent come out before the animated series...feels like this guy would be super offended if it was mentioned to him in person
He is to Wolverine, what Kevin Conroy is to Batman.
Perfect Analogy.
Good comparison
You are so right!!
I Agree!
Okay but Steve Blum has taken over 😭😭😭 that’s my wolverine
This was the definitive Logan voice.
#OnGod
Yeah alongside Scott Mcneil
Hell yeah. Wolverine was my top favorite character. Jean Grey was my second favorite as well as Storm being a close third. Amazing series.
Dub Jackmans Logan with Cals voice. Gotta be some edit out there for it
150%.....XPLODE.....BESERKER BARRAGE
Cal is to Wolverine what Peter Cullen is to Optimus Prime and Kevin Conroy to Batman.
They are iconic.
And mark to the joker
What is Hugh Jackman then?
As Frank Welker is to Megatron
As David Kaye is to Megatron(BW).
And fred to hulk
“Do you wanna be in x men?”
“Who the hell are the xmen?”
Is probably the most wolverine thing he could’ve said
Cathal J. Dodd is to Wolverine what Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill are to Batman and The Joker.
Don't forget Christopher D. Barns as Spider-Man!
That’s what I liked about the 90s from marvel and dc.
@@Guacamolian He'd have been a good live action Spider-Man.
@@Guacamolian he’s got the emotional aspect for sure
Also; he voiced Captain America in the 2D Capcom fighting games.

He’s so damn good as Wolverine!
Cal Dodd's iconic Wolverine makes any 90's kid like me proud. Until today, i still watch Xmen and classic cartoons
Their voices, or Steven J. Blum (who's voiced 'im for the last decade and a half since X-Men Legends). :-b But yeah, Cal's still my fave Wolvy voice.
This is the only guy who I wouldn't let even Steve blum replace
We literally grow up with his rendition of wolverine. Even in the fighting games.
Lets go bub!
Berserker barrage!
holy 💩. The guy that voiced Wolverine was an actual Canadian.🤯
I was thinking that. And wolverine in the pilot episode originally had an australian accent. Like wtf lol
Fun fact: Most of the cast from the series were Canadian.
@@jhsrt985 no that was Kitty Pryde and Friends or w.e it was.
As much as I love Steve Blum, he doesn't hold a candle to Cal. He's iconic.
I'll never forget the line he did, "...got bit by a dog too." And the iconic "Jean!"
Glad he's making a comeback on the 90's version of x-men
He should be the voice for Insomniac's game.
Nah Steve Blum
@@creamsilver2513 Steve Blum will always be Spike to me.
Totally!! Marvels vs Capcom Voice still echoes in my head when I think of Wolverine slashing his enemies.
That moment when you and the voice of Wolverine have the same favorite episode

Underrated comment!
Wow I knew about the Pryde Of the X-Men but I never saw it and didn't know he sounded Australian
CAL is the voice of Wolverine. PERIOD!
I was able to meet Mr. Dodd today, very nice man and I was blessed enough to get his autograph for a friend who is a very big fan of Wolverine.
Badass, i love the episode where Wolverine read the bible.
His voice was the one I would emulate whenever I would read aloud Wolverine’s dialogue in the X-Men comics.
Such a great interview and Cal is the definitive voice of Wolverine :)
Awesome interview, it was great to finally see the man behind an iconic character from my childhood.
It's so cool that he's coming back to voice Wolverine in X-Men 97
100% So glad they brought him back
@@TheNerdLys Me too
This the only Wolverine voice i acknowledge
It was so awesome that he even got to be Wolverine in all the Marvel VS Capcom games until 3!

Wolverine was nowhere near as popular before Fox kids and Cal Dodd. They are the reason Wolverine got so many retcons.

Steve Blum also does a good job, he's been voicing the character for almost 20 years now.

It's funny because in real life he sounds like Banshee.
Best interview on youtube 😇
& yes i wouldnt be able to make it thru my childhood without my man Cal & as a 27yo still 😎
Cal Dodd could read the dictionary out loud in his Wolverine voice, and I would enjoy listening to him.

Steve and Scott, great, but Cal started it all!
Now we have X-Men 97 to look forward too.

The X-Men Aminated show from the 90s brought back my love of comics and Superheros.
