So you dont have to enter your minimum decision altitude and height and wind direction/speed and QNH in this plane like you have to in the airbus? I know that stuff is critical for the airbus to land an ILS
I landed safely and gentle my first time … I tried other airports and I came in to fast and bounced but I’ll practice … is it possible to take off then turn on lnav and v nav and auto pilot and not have to touch anything at all? I know you said it’s broken but I think it’s fixed now …. If I don’t touch anything will the auto pilot control my decent and final approach and get me in the right place to start The ILS ?
Landed successfully on my second try. Very clear and concise instructions. I have a question related to flying at night, how do I turn up the cockpit lights on the 747? Thanks in advance.
1st Flight LAX to Albuquerque. Nailed it. I think the term used is BUTTER. Any plans for any of the smaller aircraft, the GA ones? Here’s a tip. I see a lot of people asking on your videos when should I start the decent. I use the following calculation, it’s called the x3 plus 20 rule. For example, if your cruise ALT is 42k and the Destination airport is sea level or there abouts. Simply multiply your CRZ height 42 x 3 = 126 + 20 = 146. So, begin your decent 146 miles from your destination. I use the following ASI speeds as a guide. On initial decent 250kts down to 10k. 10k - 7k 190kts
Retired off the 747-400 ten years ago, nice trip down memory lane. If I remember correctly you couldn’t select landing flaps 30 before the gear was down, maybe you can on the 800, but for sure 10 years ago, you’d have never made it to the gate with flaps 30, before someone would have asked if you needed assistance😅
Hey fishstakes I’ve watched most of ur tutorials for mfs (A320 and B737-8) and they are really helpful, just wanted to say thank you for making a great beginner tutorial 😊
That is so cool! Had my first ILS landing tonight. Didn't want to sit for too long with the Helsinki trip but I made a flight plan from Edinburgh to Healthrow - a nice short flight - missed the glide slope on the trip down and had to land manually but I flew back to Edinburgh (new flight plan) and the LOC and glide path clicked in just fine! And a night flight too! I use a PC rather than an x-box but I was able to translate everything. Thanks so much.
Complete noob at this game never even flown anything and thanks to your video I’ve managed to get a 747 from Liverpool to Malaga and land safely! Only problem I had is when you load in the altitude and speed doesn’t show next to the waypoints on the FMC and part of the route was discontinued. Entered it manually during the flight and it was smooth sailing from there! Thanks for the great vid I’m going to do the A320 next
None of the speeds or altitudes show up in my MCDU from the flight plan at all for some reason. Am I doing something wrong? I selected my routes like you did in the flight plan video and the waypoints show up in the MCDU but none of the speeds or altitudes.
Well done James you saved all souls on board, we landed in Helsinki just as you said we would. Oddly enough we landed successfully but for some reason the ennunciator kept saying Landing Gear even though it was down.
In regards to the landing gear message, it may have been because you went idle too soon, or still had your flaps extended. But that’s something you can dial in next time 😁
I had this down packed then I had 3 months off it, this is a big help for Xbox users. Unfortunately been having problems with frozen Nav and even VFR map, then the loc and app buttons don’t work unless you smash them a thousand times

Unless I missed it, you never actually showed how to specifically program the ILS into the flight plan on the plane good job showing what speed and altitude which is good but still at square one for actuully programing the ILS runway into the flight plan on plane.
Amazing video I watched this and the startup tutorial for this aircraft. You did an amazing job at keeping it simple. My first trip in the boeing was from JFK to Cabo San Lucas, thank you you earned a sub from me
awesome video very well explained your my new hero lol any ways one question sorry if it a dumb question or i miss you explaining this some where but how do you know what speed to run the aircraft at when landing like you lowered your speed a few times 160 at the end is there a chart or some where to learn this thanks
Can you explain how exactly you're moving around the cabin so fluidly? What keyboard / mouse inputs are you using, or is this some other interface like VR?!
Hi, love this video! Can you show how to get the 787 to fly itself from waypoint to way point, if you set up for an IFR flight? Say from LHR to Paris. After take off, how would I get the plane to actually follow the flight path? thanks!
It is a bit rubbish that the FMC doesn’t calculate your ‘top of descent’ marker and begin an auto descent using the VNAV. Xplane did this beautifully and is a fundamental part of flight management in larger planes. C’mon Microsoft, keep,up!
Great tutorial - but like you say the waypoint altitudes in the in-game flight plans are a million miles from realistic. If you do want to edit the waypoint altitudes though, based on a Simbrief generated flight plan, so you can use VNAV and get the plane to descend at the TOD automatically rather than guessing, how the feck do you do it via the cockpit interface. I've tried every combo of buttons under the sun and cannot for the life of me edit/change the pre-populated altitudes for individual waypoints. Tips? Entering the desired FL and then hitting the relevant softkey next to the waypoints when viewing the legs page seems to do nothing.
I do exactly what you say in the video. I choose ILS aproach before the flight and i see my waypoints in the computer. All good for the first waypoints. Autopilot takes me at 15500 feet with 310 speed, exactly what it says on the computer. The problem starts during the two last waypoints i'm supposed to decend. It says 0 speed 🤔(don't know if that's correct) at 3500 feet and the final one 0 speed 2600 feet. The decend procedure never starts even though i change from 15500 to 3500 feet. This said, i arrive at the airport at 15500 feet overrunning it.
This video is still great after a year but I just have one problem I am now flying 777-300ER and when I descend I change my altitude on the plane to 10000 when the plane reaches 10,000 it keeps on going and there is not way to stop it. (will you still answer after one year?)
So how do i know when to start the descent to 10,000 feet? How much distance do i need between me and the approach waypoint to descend to 10,000' at 250 knots?
Hi mate. You need to go into your mcdu, press on legs and go through them to find discontinuity, press the button next to the waypoint that is under the boxes then press on the button next to the boxes. This should erase the discontinuity. It's worked for me, I'm 4 hours into a flight from china to Russia. No need to worry about the game pausing as I've got a repeat song playing on Spotify app on Xbox but volume turned down on Xbox controller so long haul flights are much easier
I don’t know if it tells you that that’s the out to do you’re supposed to be at but when I was going across the checkpoint, it said different altitudes for two of them and one of them was before. Do you have to be at the altitude or will auto pilot automatically bring you down when you hit Devon.
Hi great tutorial, iv not managed to fly this yet as I couldn't get on with the autopilot (I usually fly the 320neo) so I'm going to try the 747 tonight now! Can I ask I see you had speed brake ON on takeoff, at what point do you take speed brake off? Same time as the gear goes up? Also once you line up the glide slope and lock in the two diamonds does the 747 land itself? Or did you take manual control once the autopilot was turned off? Thanks again, I hope you see this and can let me know about the speed brake
Hi James, another great video, I've got the plane in the air twice now and I will use this video, hopefully for a successful landing. One Question, in the A320 you could press the TUN button to check the ILS freq, can I do something similar in the 747? Thanks
I had flight simulator when it first came out and it was awesome. Can anyone tell me now if you have tower communications to help you with a planned trip? Can you really see the instruments now and use them?
I have ATC turned off but it does exist if you want to use it, you can have your AI copilot respond or you can turn that off too so you have to manually respond yourself!
Why when you press Approach button, the three autopilot are not engaged automatically? I saw many videos and was told three autopilots will be engaged automatically in the landing. Thanks.
It’s not but, you.l get the hang of this in no time I’m sure! ILS does most of the work for you, you can disengage your autopilot really late if you want the extra help but just remember it won’t flare on it’s own so you absolutely need to disengage before touchdown
When will they fix the ILS bug with that ridiculous 40000 ft decent? How can we overcome this in other routes (where I don't have this video to tell me when to begin descending)?
Hi Daniel, make sure you have selected an ILS approach during your flight plan. And also make sure you have your nav screen set to Map or App mode, this should cause your ILS systems to come online , check in with ATC to make sure you’re cleared for an ILS approach too if you are unsure. It is a known bug that sometimes it just never triggers, you may have gotten unlucky, but I find it works most of the time, I have had it fail to trigger twice in total.
I notice whenever I descend in the 747 at 250 knots automatically , the average rate of descent is around 1500-2000 feet, here I see your rate is around 4000-5000 feet. What gives?
Do you have any consoles at the moment? This game is available on cloud gaming so can be streamed to the Xbox one family of consoles if you own one. I can’t speak for the quality but it might be worth a look!

Hey I just started playing this game and I followed everything u did. When I set plane to 10000 feet the rate of decent was way to slow and wasn't even close to the correct altitude by the way point. Did I miss something?
You either need to slow the plane down or alter your rate of descent, this is something you will have to manage as you get closer to the waypoint. Technically the plane should take care of it for you but the autopilot doesn’t really work properly (still!). If you feel you are not going to hit your waypoint at the right altitude you can always slow down or change your rate of descent on the dial
Guys please help. The white line on my gps in flight, is not alined with my heading. So it doesn't fly on track with the gps. (The white line allines with the purple but not with my heading.) How do i fix this????
Mate - one thing I've noticed is even with I pick up the Localiser and Glide Slope, and it shows I've done it successfully on the PFD, I'm still not perfectly lined up with the runway on my approach. Any reason for that?
1:57 To have a simulator be released to the consumers with so many problems and broken features is shameful. Many of the aircraft available for purchase at the marketplace are unflyable especially the Boeing 777 with a large price tag and I can’t even fly it without the plane automatically turning up and flying sideways. This simulator has been available since 2020 and has yet to fix many of the issues that would make this sim more enjoyable, shouldn’t need a workaround for a program if it where release working properly.
Try a lighter tug when you flare, or if you can land smoothly without it, then don't flare at all.. I know this is incorrect but rest assured it is the game and not you, as you say the 747 is very temperamental, your landing speed should be around 160Knots and you SHOULD be able to flare at this speed. Try to flare lower if it's not working as it should, or not at all. I know it's not an ideal solution but I don't think the 747 is working as intended atm
@@FishStakes Thanks for that, as a new to flight sim, I may have to leave the 747 until it’s sorted out, stick with the beachcraft twin prop which I love flying and is very tolerant of my ineptitude 😂. Working through your vids so thanks for those, very helpful

Guys please help. The white line on my gps in flight, is not alined with my heading. So it doesn't fly on track with the gps. (The white line allines with the purple but not with my heading.) How do i fix this????
How do i remove the white line?
Admit it , you love saying Magenta diamonds 😂😂😂😂😂
Mate - one thing I've noticed is even with I pick up the Localiser and Glide Slope, and it shows I've done it successfully on the PFD, I'm still not perfectly lined up with the runway on my approach.
Any reason for that?
same here ,,,,,it happens sometimes, i don't see any pattern ...maybe it's a bug?
Do you have AI co-
pilot on during this decent
I only use the AI copilot for ATC
1:57 To have a simulator be released to the consumers with so many problems and broken features is shameful. Many of the aircraft available for purchase at the marketplace are unflyable especially the Boeing 777 with a large price tag and I can’t even fly it without the plane automatically turning up and flying sideways. This simulator has been available since 2020 and has yet to fix many of the issues that would make this sim more enjoyable, shouldn’t need a workaround for a program if it where release working properly.
Can’t stop my 747 climbing away from runway when flaring even 140knots. 747 very temperamental for me. Any suggestion very welcome.
@@dcgamephotography5533 try the A320! It’s much easier to handle and will be good practise for the eventual step back to the 747, I’m sure you can do it!
How to get a Boeing 747? I can’t find it!
