As an experienced flight simmer (23+ years) I'd say you were flying with a badly modeled 747 (not the worst though). So, it completely makes sense why you had issues with it. In my opinion, the best add-on model at this time is the 747-400 and -8 by PMDG (for Prepar3D flight sim). I really wish to know your feedback on that add-on. Also, you NEED to get a rudder (or a joystick with rudder axis). It's as important as having throttle, for quick reactions.
15:35 Question of the day: When someone asks you what you do for a living, have you ever answered: "I drive an eighteen wheeler"? I've heard that some 747 pilots do that.
@@nicholashosslogan3444 Well, technically the 747 cargo is an 18 wheeler heavy hauler, but unless you have 747 in your licence plate (which would be _awesome_) you are not driving a 747.
Since he's a three striper, the left seat adds a bit confusion to the mix. And FS2020 has a wide interpretation of the cockpit setup. As a real pilot you also usually don't use a mouse to turn stuff in the cockpit and some controls are turned by the guy sitting closer to it. Some of these controls like radio freqs or transponder are also hard to set in FS2020. Some times it's the zoom blocking it, sometimes it's a pixel difference between inner and outer knob.

I have definitely watched an unhealthy amount of your videos over the past 24 hours and I have to say I love it. I hope you’re able to read this to dull some of the mean comments. Truly fantastic, thanks
Thank you for doing flight sim. I love it! I know it’s not the real thing but it’s still cool to have zero experience and be able to land big planes on there. I’m struggling getting the nose up on the landing. I use the trim up and it still bounces
Revisiting this video though, I (not a pilot) couldn't get anywhere near as smooth on the landing as you in the sim. Assuming you didn't practice on this sim a lot, it's kind of cool to see how you're automatically better at this because of real life experience!
Awesome job! I'd definitely recommend some rudder pedals as well, just so you at least have the yoke/throttle/rudders to work with. Should make it a bit easier. I also hope Microsoft was listening to this. Sounds like they could use a lot of tweaking. :)
I think, at least for my experience with little planes, they're way more difficult than the real life. I have never managed to trim properly on the the sim.
The default 747 (that is used in the landing challenges) is very hard to get stabilized in the challenges. In a full flight when you actually have time to set it up correctly, it’s much easier. However, there’s also the salty mod that improves it way more
Love the part about your experience in an actual flight simulator that you have someone sitting behind you, writing stuff down. RUclips commenters... LOL!
Hello from Lima, Peru. I've had MSFS2020 for almost two years now, but only now I got to watch your video. I'm playing this on console, with a Hotas controller. So far, I've made a little over 200 hours. At this point, I'm sure you've got these more advanced controllers, with rudder pedals and airliner consoles replicated...
Getting a real reference and feel of the aircraft on a monitor is minimal at best. My flight controller has the rudder function in the twisting of the yoke. Doesn't replace pedals, but it works. Good job Captain!
Dude, that first attempt - you flying a pogo stick there or what? Serious kangaroo-jockeying all the way in. Still, had me hankering for the good ole days of FSX Multiplayer. I was half-expecting to see a hot air balloon hammering past at Mach 4 🤣
I tried to use keyboard controls instead of a yoke and rudder pedals on a flight simulator years ago. Taking off is easy, landing was very difficult for me (but then again I did not know what the flaps were for back then).
And this is why I haven’t gotten MSFS 2020 yet. I’m waiting for some of the bugs to be updated out. Love the graphics compared to x-plane 11 but the actual realistic flying aspect has a lot to be desired out of MSFS
I agree , with microsoft products you wait until they are about to bring out a new version , then you buy the version in which all the glitches have been worked out microsoft is notorious for selling their beta versions to the public and using them as testers , instead of paying people to do the job screw that , I expect to get paid if i have to to the beta testing that is why i never send in reports on glitches , they can work for their money the lazy basta**
It may seem counter-intuitive to you at first, but I recommend a controller over keyboard for FS20. I use a DualSense, but even X360 will work. The left joystick works great as a yoke, and the triggers work well as rudder pedals (as long as you squeeze them both to 50%, then it feels more like true rudder pedals as they can go away from you AND toward you in tandem). Plus, even with a controller, you can still use the mouse.
surprising how entertaining this is. its .one thing to be a Real pilot and speak from experience.. but now compare with a programmer pilot!! keep it coming kelsey!!
No it's not. Just turn off all the outside HUD stuff, and you're fine (raised on FS98 and FSX, when they didn't have that "mobile flight sim game" stuff on the external view).
He can’t see out the window from the default camera position, and he’s asking how to raise it. “How do I get up” means “how do I move this camera position higher”
I really appreciate the fact that you pretty much roll with the situations you find yourself in and work the problem rather than trying to save face. That in itself is an evident quality found in good pilots. You’re recognizably the real deal and the haters out there are “the wanna be’s”. I truly enjoy your channel!!! Oh and the millennials who write these sim programs.......probably never held a real yoke in their lives 🤠
I'd imagine there's ppl in their team that have flight experience but, then again, they probably have a large experience in the fields of private aircraft and only roughly estimate the models of other planes based on research
Lol makes me glad I don't get airsick. All the lurching would make me cranky at the feeling of my innards sloshing around, but at least I wouldn't lose my lunch. (Or lack thereof. I'm cheap when it comes to airline food.)
You have to adapt the joystick sensitivities respectively curves for the 747. When you use the linear sensitivity curve of an Cessna you will get pilot induced oscillations on a big ship regardless of your piloting skills. As for the flight model, the standard aircraft of fs2020 still are in development. For study level flight and systems models, you should try a big ship from PMDG or the A320 neo.
Been playing flight simulator since I was like 8 years old. I’ve always wanted to be a pilot but never had the smarts or the money. I love your videos though :)
Thanks, I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. After seeing you land the 747 on that sim I feel much better with my attempts on landing too. I think it's a lot harder if you're not using the actual pedals, yoke, etc. Just using a mouse and keyboard is really difficult at first
Thanks for doing this, Kelsey! Hopefully the flight model and other kinks will be worked out in FS2020 soon. And I agree that you definitely need some rudder pedals. Question: Would you consider doing a Hollywood vs. Reality of the flight scenes from the 1980s Schwarzenegger film Commando? Could I really climb down to the landing gear and survive a jump during take-off in a DC-10? Does Rae Dawn Chong look like she has any idea what she's doing piloting that G-21?

@@krystalbrooks6869 most planes can't land above 30kts crosswind (gust can go up to 50 though). So he is probably doing it for the funzies.
@@74gear 50, should should crank it up to hurricane force winds and try a vertical takeoff.
Kelsey: Now everyone's throwing up at the back of my plane...thats AWESOME!! haha
Thank you for doing flight sim. I love it! I know it’s not the real thing but it’s still cool to have zero experience and be able to land big planes on there. I’m struggling getting the nose up on the landing. I use the trim up and it still bounces
Legend says; after this video was uploaded, Kelsey got right pissed off, and threw his remote straight through the t.v. screen.. 😂😂
Pilot working from home👍👍👍
I hope my landings are better if I am working remote 😂
@@74gear LMAO
14:15 LMAO "now everybody is throwing up in the back of my plane. This is awesome!"
I wonder why he was rocking the plane so much high up in the air. It kinda looked like me flying. Why would a real 747 pilot fly like that? Too wobbly
This was the best quote from this video.
Revisiting this video though, I (not a pilot) couldn't get anywhere near as smooth on the landing as you in the sim. Assuming you didn't practice on this sim a lot, it's kind of cool to see how you're automatically better at this because of real life experience!
i love that "landing in the grass, thats not really my thing"
Awesome job! I'd definitely recommend some rudder pedals as well, just so you at least have the yoke/throttle/rudders to work with. Should make it a bit easier.
I also hope Microsoft was listening to this. Sounds like they could use a lot of tweaking. :)
Am I the only pilot who hates simulators 😂
This was fun to watch though, thanks for the awesome videos Kelsey
I think, at least for my experience with little planes, they're way more difficult than the real life. I have never managed to trim properly on the the sim.
I think its like playing life sims as an adult. Way less fun because it feels like work lol
@@BesseFam I wish it could feel like work :P
Lol, sorry to throw you under the bus but you commented on on of 74 gears vids like two weeks ago that you can’t wait to solo

Kelsey, I'm thinking the philosophy of "any landing you walk away from is a good landing", is at play here!
"Any crash you can walk away from is a successful landing." -- Jebediah Kermin
5:20 Kelsey: *Crashes*
Ryanair: *But that was a perfect landing!*
lol
I love the fact that the game is like
"🤷🏼♀️ ehh good enough!" After landing in the grass. I can't stop laughing 😆
The default 747 (that is used in the landing challenges) is very hard to get stabilized in the challenges. In a full flight when you actually have time to set it up correctly, it’s much easier. However, there’s also the salty mod that improves it way more
13:38.. No, we're doing another one.
And that my friends is how you spend way too much time on MSFS.
Love the part about your experience in an actual flight simulator that you have someone sitting behind you, writing stuff down.
RUclips commenters... LOL!
This guy's awesome, I was never interested or intrigued by planes but he makes them sound awesome
Same. I'm the opposite of interested, I'm more terrified lol. But this channel has me reluctantly intrigued
Oh boy I hit my head on the roof on that bounce😂😂😂
Salty simulations has a 747 mod. They want to make it more realistic but their mod is still in the pretty early stages
Kelsey is like "Oh... 747 landing challenge! HOLD MY BEER!"
After adapting to Flight Simulator weird mechanics, Kelsey promptly crashes and kills everyone on the next flight of his real 747.
Dude. I friggen love your channel! One of the best channels out there, certainly
Great vid. I thought about doing these kinda vids too, but decided to just do travel and real shots from the cockpit :)
You vids are great too!
I would love if the score sheet had a passenger experience statement "I am covered in vomit, how do you think I feel?"
Love seeing the face expression "OH SH*t". Relly enjoy the comparison between the game and real life experience.
I agree , with microsoft products you wait until they are about to bring out a new version , then you buy the version in which all the glitches have been worked out
microsoft is notorious for selling their beta versions to the public and using them as testers , instead of paying people to do the job
screw that , I expect to get paid if i have to to the beta testing
that is why i never send in reports on glitches , they can work for their money the lazy basta**
You should try DCS, it's a rlly realistic flight sim game
Hes a airliner pilot not military
Microsoft needs to add an attitude gauge for the outside view. Landing while in outside mode vs cockpit is very tricky.
No it's not. Just turn off all the outside HUD stuff, and you're fine (raised on FS98 and FSX, when they didn't have that "mobile flight sim game" stuff on the external view).
"How do I get up?"
Word I never want to hear from a pilot LOL
I was thinking exactly that!
He can’t see out the window from the default camera position, and he’s asking how to raise it.
“How do I get up” means “how do I move this camera position higher”
@@jimhejl6896 yes thank you, I was making a joke...
Also the words a girlfriend/wife/partner never wants to hear lol.
Thank you for flying with RyanAir ;)

Haha this is a awesome video!! Thanks for the great content!!
I get bored very quickly of flying sims, not a flying enthusiast, nor like game play footage... Yet here I am loving these ❤️
Judging by the weaving it seems the sim has recreated storm Doris exactly! Hehehe... Good try Kelsey!
So if we can beat Kelsey's score does that mean we can fly the Dreamlifter?
U will never fail to make me smile Kelsey
Lol makes me glad I don't get airsick. All the lurching would make me cranky at the feeling of my innards sloshing around, but at least I wouldn't lose my lunch. (Or lack thereof. I'm cheap when it comes to airline food.)
12:52 I think he got the mod for the “soul plane” plane. They messed up the color, and the rims though. 😂
With that attitude you doomed yourself before you ever started
@@CHEVYK10 oh gee thanks for the shaming. You don’t even know me to be passing judgment as to why I wasn’t able to become a pilot.
@@zed4643 I hope some day you are able to!
Thanks, I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. After seeing you land the 747 on that sim I feel much better with my attempts on landing too. I think it's a lot harder if you're not using the actual pedals, yoke, etc. Just using a mouse and keyboard is really difficult at first
"I guess I got my flaps out" - 74 Gear 2022
Thanks for doing this, Kelsey! Hopefully the flight model and other kinks will be worked out in FS2020 soon. And I agree that you definitely need some rudder pedals.
Question: Would you consider doing a Hollywood vs. Reality of the flight scenes from the 1980s Schwarzenegger film Commando? Could I really climb down to the landing gear and survive a jump during take-off in a DC-10? Does Rae Dawn Chong look like she has any idea what she's doing piloting that G-21?
Microsoft got it WRONG!!!
