- Arnold Schwarzenegger was born on July 30, 1947, near Graz, Austria. He rose to fame as the world's top bodybuilder, launching a career that would make him a giant Hollywood star. After years of blockbuster movie roles, Schwarzenegger went into politics, becoming governor of California in 2003. In 2012, he returned to his acting career, starring with Jean-Claude Van Damme, Bruce Willis and Sylvester Stallone in the film The Expendables 2. Within just one week, the movie had climbed to the No. 1 spot at the box office, bringing in nearly $28.6 million. His recent films include The Expendables 3 (2014) and Terminator Genisys (2015).
As an escape, Arnold turned to the movies, in particular Reg Parker, a body builder and star in B-level Hercules movies. The films also helped propel Schwarzenegger's own obsession with America, and the future he felt awaited him there. Getting to his new country was the issue. Schwarzenegger found his answer in Joe Weider, the man behind the International Federation of Body Building, an organization that sponsored contests such Mr. Universe and Mr. Olympia. Weider loved Schwarzenegger's bravado, sense of humor, and the potential he saw in the young body builder. Weider's instincts couldn't have been more dead-on. In all, Schwarzenegger would win an unprecedented five Mr. Universe titles and six Mr. Olympia crowns during his bodybuilding career. Equally significant, Schwarzenegger, who had immigrated to the United States in 1968, helped propel the sport into the mainstream, culminating in the 1977 documentary, Pumping Iron, which tells the tale of Schwarzenegger's defense of his Mr. Olympia crown.

People need to realize that everything Arnold did was according to his blueprint. He made it very clear early on in his bodybuilding career that he had every intention of leaving bodybuilding for an acting career and when he did so he adjusted his workouts and training accordingly as to make himself more appealing for acting roles. When he became governor he devoted himself to politics and his role in the political arena and working out and acting went on the back burner. So before you criticize him for being out of shape understand it was all part of his plan..

No one can stay 25 forever…Arnold was very smart regarding his career path. Compare his career to Lou Ferigno. Most champion bodybuilders would be running a gym at best. His marital problems was his downfall but humans are messy.
This man has nothing to complain about his life. It may not have been perfect but he's lived it to its fullest. Congrats man and thanks for being an inspiration and role model for many.

A true LEGEND even at 70
He is a true bodybuilding icon! I have been following him since I was a teenager and he was the reason I started my fitness journey. His workout videos and movies were inspiring to me. I gave my best and trained hard for years, but I was hardly getting any muscle, only to find out that my diet was nowhere near as it should've been. I have always eaten 'just enough' thinking it would be sufficient. My first real diet plan taught me the lesson. I remember getting online from site (NextLevel Diet I guess), but somehow it helped me gain a few pounds in my first month of using it. Surely it wasn't all pure muscle, but I was happier than ever. Thanks Arnold for everything you did for bodybuilding!!

Arnold is a legend. Most people can't accomplish what he's done in several lifetimes. If you don't like what he looks like in his 70's. Wait and see what you look like, if you even live that long. He looks really good for his age.

I was fortunate to have met the Oak in 03. Early Sunday morning in Venice. He was on a tandem bicycle with his son Patrick. He stopped and talked to me for about 3 minutes. I told him o didn't want to cause a crowd. Very nice man. He would become Govenor the following year.
