I would suggest editing out the umms during the talking getting rid of any dead space helps the video be more catchy. .

I own the M5 for a while now and im pretty happy about it.
But in conclusion the differences i got from the video:
M5:
slightly better for fotography (screen, low light)
2 additional dial wheels (i think you forgot to mension those..))
1 additional button at the front
M50:
better for VLogs (flip screen, 120fps, 4K)
I dont know the M50, but i think i would really miss the dial wheels and aditional buttons, because i always use them to set the apperture, or exposure adjustments. I use the multifuntion button to check the depth of field when the camera prefiew uses a lower apperture, and i really like the position of it on the M5.
Actually i use a mounting plate for the M5 and i am able to change the battery and use the screen but i was searching for it for a while
You also forgot to mension the M6, which is basicly the M5 without viewfinder and the screen flips upwards. So you can see yourself on top of the camera while vlogging.
I think Canon even puts the M50 in a beginners category and the M5 in and advanced category, hence the extra dials and what not.
U kept mixing them up.. gotta work on your thought process better.
Yes, I got super confused many times because the names kept getting switched about. I don’t even know for sure now which is m5 and which is m50 !

Your brand music is way louder than your voice volume. Almost fell off the chair when my sub started playing the brand music.
M5 has more dials and controls on the camera body making it better for manual photography. I don’t get it why Canon didn’t placed the same button setup on the M50. M5 is like a 80D and the M50 like 800D for comparison.
Beav Brodie that’s the problem: the manufacture don’t WANT to make a perfect camera :( They want to make a bunch of different models for everyone’s need: this actually means for nobody’s perfect need, you have to make compromises and ideally (for the cameramaker) buy a few different models :(
Yeah, I feel like the M50 is a vloggers camera and the M5 is more for stills and such for enthusiasts with a bit of video thrown in as an after thought. I personally would go with the M5 since I don't have a youtube channel and even if I did, I would probably get a dedicated camera for both, since I like to take pictures more than making movies...
That was by far the best run down of these two cameras I have seen. Some fresher perspectives and things to take into consideration I hadn't thought of. I have recently bought the M50 for vlogging but have invested in the 11-22mm lens as it offers better OIS than the kit 15-45mm lens. The wider field of view makes it a must too. I think one thing you didnt go into much detail about was the importance of the external mic input. that really adds value if you are going to be working in front of the lens too. This video was an instant sub for me
I liked the fact that you went into detail abt the cameras while your footage was very fluid and organic. The Vlog to B-roll styles were great as well! looking forward to watching your channel grow! I have the M5 and last month I got the EF-M 11-22mm f/4-5.6 IS STM and love this camera with that lens.

Because the camera companies said so... Is 4K ubiquitous anywhere? Is it really necessary to reach the mass audience? I feel like just as 1080 got to be ubiquitous, they came out with 4K and hardly anyone has it. I feel like at this point, it's a gimmick. I have read and seen vlogs say that the Sony a series overheats when you use it in 4K, so does it really work?
I can't edit 4k videos on my computer so I don't care about it. I love my m5 except the screen.
You don’t need it if you don’t like it. It’s especially good for b roll things that you want to capture the exact beauty. So don’t worry about it if you don’t like it, 1920 will do just fine trust me 🙏🏼
This video helped me a lot! I was trying to decide between these 2. I’m always the camera man and don’t need 4K I think I’ll go with m5
Beav Brodie I mainly do portraits and I think the tilt screen will help with my low and high shots also
The efm to EF speed booster adapter is awesome for both cameras. Makes both a equivalent to full frame and the 4K will be cropped to 1.7 on the m50

Great video. Did you find the m5 gives any noticeably better image quality? Canon seems to be trying to spin that the m5 is the superior camera, but other than some extra dials/buttons, I can’t see how that’s the case.

Great review! Thanks! I do wish you would have covered the touch screen abilities of both. Can you use the flip screens to change focal point, and adjust exposure? Also, do the flip screens give you audio levels?

You got them mixed up when you started explaining about the different types of screen. Maybe it is just that you were in 'holiday mode'.
The battery is the deal breaker for me. I like my batteries all the same just like my 7Ds, ,6D, 5Ds...I bought the M5 when it first came out along with a bunch of extra batteries. Canon is known to keep their batteries the same 🤔
Hoping they keep the batteries the same with their future mirrorless cameras like the EOS M3, M5, M6, Rebel SL2, Rebel T6s, Rebel T6i, Rebel T7i, and 77D 👍

Hey! M5 screen flips down and m50 has variangle screen which opens sideways. The flip-out screen is much better and there is nothing like behind the camera screen is better.
I need a camera now so my choice is m50, but I have this feeling that end of 2018 we might see M5 Mark ii and get something like 1080p 120 frames and 4k 30 frames with potentially no crop and dual pixel AF.. I do think the M5 body is a better build quality as well so it would be nice to have those m50 features in the M5 mark ii.. buuuut I can't wait until November so m50 it is
The dual pixel AF is huge on the M5! Can't give that up especially with vlogging
Ah yes good clarification! I've also dabbled in Instagram stories and therefore the flip down screen on the M5 comes in perfectly when turning the camera on its side. It's even unblocked by the shotgun mic I have and looking at it while filming doesn't give you away too bad

I like to shoot b roll with more of a cinematic look and I am not sure if the 11-22 offers as much diversity as the 18-150 does. What would you recommend if I could only have one lens as a vlogger?

I'd definitely consider the Sony a6400 over the m5 which are similar in price. But maybe the m50 over both of those for much less!
M50 is a flimsy build but better tech, M5 better build but limited tech.
How about the perfomance of both camera for shooting still images at low light? So far i havent found much video talking about this.

How much am I lookin at and if I got eBay cheap will that really be a problem or just something a guy who was selling me a $1k camera for his first cam wanted me to think? Behind it starting out almost all the time. I think I have decided on the M50 over the a6000. I'm a beginner so this will be my first camera.
Beav Brodie let me play devils advocate...with the M50 being newer and with me keep hearing people saying this sharing a lot of 80D technology wouldn’t the M50 be a better value? Just playing devils advocate. Keep in mind this will be my first purchase.

I have M5 with 15-45mm but I found video sucks as choppy or jittery with handhold. On the hand, photo look great and crips. Just wish I can have best of both world.

I disagree, but it depends on what you use it for.
For me as a fotographer, the aditional dial wheels and buttons are way more important. I am toally fine with 60fps at 1080p for the really rare videos i take with that camera.
