      Jo I agree that her chin is perfect and suits her, but a lot of doctors suggest/recommend chin augmentations following rhinoplasties. If your new nose is what you wanted, but doesn’t “harmonize” with your face, that’s a common way to make most people feel like their face is “balanced” again. :)

      electricbouguereau It should be for whoever needs or wants it. Who needs it should be determined by a doctor and who wants it should be determined by the people who are considering it, not some unqualified random internet person. If plastic surgery was only used for victims of violence it would be much more expensive then it already is. Also, many people would be out of a job and those who were able to keep their jobs as plastic surgeons would be payed significantly less because there wouldn’t be as much demand for it. Overall, your idea sucks.

      Did we have the exact same doctor because I had to have surgery on my throat last year and the doctor was such a creep. I’m a trans dude but he’d seen my paperwork so obviously thought of me as a woman, and was way too touchy-feely with my chest and well. I may not be a doctor but something tells me the esophagus isn’t located in my nipples. During the follow-up I brought my grandfather for extra security and the man still talked to me in an extremely slow, over-enunciated voice and was touching me way too much. When speaking to my grandpa he’d switched to a normal speaking tone-purely professional. Trust your gut, ladies. Creeps are everywhere

      @jackee-is-silent2938 4 года назад +161

      Oh it's a real thing. I've had what I call "the surgeon attitude". Put sexism with that and it must be brutal. I think the surgeon attitude comes from having to have the shear confidence in having a diagnosis, doing the surgery, cutting someone, carrying it through, and doing so over a career. But what becomes commonplace for surgeons is a life-altering event for the patients. Like any specialist they need to treat their patients with care and compassion, not attitude.

    • @Syklonus
      @Syklonus 4 года назад +38

      Who says it was cultural conditions? She might just not think that her nose compliments her face. Not everything has to be a by-product of conditioning, and it could be down to just simple personal taste. Assuming that everyone is bullied or brainwashed into getting a procedure is insulting to freedom of choice.

    • @ohmygab
      @ohmygab 4 года назад +62

      Syklone it is cultural, it’s influenced by white beauty standards. Look at Hollywood actors. They all look the same, especially the women. Some ethnicities have bigger noses, doesn’t mean its not beautiful just because it doesn’t fit white beauty standards. I have a big nose, looks greek or roman, and I like it because it shows my origines, where my ancestors came from. I feel confident af with my big nose, but it’s definitely rare for women to feel beautiful with big noses when everything in western society tells them women are supposed to have small noses. Because women are supposed to be fragile and delicate. Just a load of bullshit imo. People wouldn’t be complexed with their body image if society didn’t put any pressure on them. I fucking doubt if we lived in the woods and that no one cared about appearances that ppl would still feel the need to get plastic surgery just “for themselves”. It’s even proven that good looking people have better chances of getting hired for a job in our society. At this point, it’s linked to survival of the fittest. Like yeah, it is cultural and with this kind of competitive/stressful environment that we live in, where everyone constantly compares themselves with each other, it’s not far fetched. Dude we grow up in a society that teaches you to do better than your classmates in order to succeed, since primary school. We are so fucking conditioned.

      Why did she want to? Where did the desire for a smaller nose come from? Could it have anything to do with anything society is doing or has done in the realm of beauty standards? Large noses are often used to make racist caricatures of Jewish and Middle Eastern people: could centuries of this kind of media image possibly inform a white woman's own internal ideas of beauty?
      Good for her that she is happy with her appearance now, no shade, but people feeling insecure about their appearances could be symptomatic of a far larger problem, and a few thousand dollars and a good plastic surgeon aren't available to most people, and even if they were, doesn't address the possible root causes. She can do what she wants, but can she choose what she wants, and should society be structured in such a way that insecurity informs what people want? It's a reasonable and necessary discussion to be had, and personal freedom doesn't make it go away.

      i get it on an individual level, wanting to be more comfortable with yourself, but i hate that it is becoming so popular and "normal".
      this way more and more people will feel validated in their insecurities and go for a quick fix instead of trying to accept themselves the way they are.
      and there will be less variety in looks because in the end, it's never really a "personal choice" but a desire that has been influenced by beauty ideals and trends, so everyone sort of goes for the same look. it's a bit sad.
      that being said, i don't blame anyone who chooses to get surgery, it's more about the beauty industry and influencers who promote it and money-hungry surgeons.

    I'm hoping surgery can become less stigmatized in society. I know especially in my family it's frowned upon, and being trans (personally) leaves surgeries in my future. We all have one life to live, why can't be look how we want?
    EDIT: To clarify, I'm not saying being trans is inherently related to surgery. Plenty of folks don't medically transition or get top/bottom surgery. I'm speaking mostly about my experience here. My main point is that changing the way we look through cosmetic surgeries should be less stigmatized. I want a nose job too.

    "at the end of the day it's a nose" is a honestly super important
    I was kind of uncomfortable starting up this video for a bit. Not bc I'm like "plastic surgery bad!!" Or whatever. I'm a huge fan of owning your own body and doing what you want with it.
    I wasn't sure why for a bit, but as you kept insisting "just nose" and it isn't "bad" I realized what my stuff was.
    I have a very big nose. It's bumpy. I love it. But there's a lot of society trying to tell me that I shouldn't, that it's bad, and I'm ugly for it.
    So I was kind of worried, that even subtly, this video would tell me my nose was bad.
    You really tried to avoid that and I very much appreciate it. I wish we could talk about plastic surgery without so many pitfalls
    (Side note: I could probably use a fix for my deviated septum, but there's a lot of horror stories of doctors just going "oh ill fix that" without patients consent and changing people's noses.)

Everywhere. I was alone for days, then weeks, then months.
    Until today.
    I was walking home when I noticed something in the snow. Something bright pink, and fluffy. I walk towards it and pick it up. I grab it, and, you’ll never guess what it was. My child. My baby boy. My worm. Reunited, at last.

    For everyone insecure about their large noses who can't afford surgery and/or just don't want it, I promise that however many times you've looked at your nose and hated it someone has admired it. I have a very small nose, doesn't fit my face much and I adore bigger noses. I think they're charming and lovely. I especially envy people with nose bumps, I think they look so unique and attractive. So just keep that in mind. Helps me love my small one to know there's at least one person who envies it. :)

    honestly the way u perceive different facial aspects differently is so wild like my nose looks very very similar to ur old nose, just a slight bit bigger from the side but less wide but essentially the same, and it's the only part of my face i am CONFIDENT about, like i just LOVE it so my initial reaction to u hating ur nose was like DOES SHE SEE HERSELF????? but it's really such an intriguing thing how we can see things so differently, and i am so glad u feel better about ur nose now that's obviously what's important u kno

    Funny enough, I have basically the same nose you had before and this video actually helped me realize that I've come to accept (and even like!?) my big weird nose. Usually a video like this would remind me of how insecure I am about my nose, but I feel oddly protective over my nose watching this. I think it's actually kind of cool having a nose that's different from a lot of people's noses, even if I do tend to think smaller and/or straighter noses are cuter/more attractive. I didn't expect to walk away from this confident about my nose, but here I am anyway, feeling pretty happy about the feature I used to dislike the most about myself. Self growth, woo!

    I’m so happy for you and how you feel more confident now. I’ve always been self conscious about my nose profile too, for my entire life. Getting plastic surgery doesn’t make you a “fake” or “vain” person, and nobody should ever have to feel shamed about making a decision for themselves about their OWN body. Good for you, hope you have a fast recovery ♥️ best wishes

    Hearing you talk about the back and forth of hating or being neutral about your nose, but still realizing the only way to be happy with it was through surgery, was actually reassuring as a nonbinary person who has yet to have top surgery. There are periods where I'm alright with my chest, but it's never been a source of pride or confidence for me. Not to mention the dysphoria. Though I am very lucky that I have a mild case, but it eats away at me, like you yourself said about the hook of your old nose. There will never be a time where I could be happy about my boobs, and that realization was very eye opening for me. Thanks for sharing, you've really helped me.

    i relate to the relief thing when it comes to my new meds. suddenly the potential health catastrophes (and there's social anxiety involved) are weighing less on my mind and i'm feeling more free to just... be. rather than taking a million steps all the time i only have to take a few, and it's so freeing. not having to be self-conscious, whether in image before others, or regarding health for yourself. and the two are probably hugely related. idk, the way you put it speaks to me. doesn't sound vain, it's a step toward mental clarity.
