The writing is so good! All they had to do was cloud my mind with “Tyr just wants peace” and that prevented me from seeing the truth.
It works because we were told he was a peaceful war God over a destructive one and had no reason to believe this was far off from his real personality
@@nnightkingj yes but at the same time he was the god of war - though we are told that was the last thing he wanted, we are never told he was this "mockery" of wanting peace.
The writing in Naughty Dog and Santa Monica studios are just unmatched in the games industry.
sadly some other aspects of the story were lacking, the thrud thor sif lore was bad, how casual it was just atreus talking to them and thrud accepting him. also ragnarok was just a city siege, and freyr kinda dying for no reason. etc
@@FrostCrash shut up crybaby. The writing was amazing. F off
@@lucashubbard5998 hahahah chill , it was a good game, just lacking parts of story, dont just mindlessly consume
Only reason as to why Brok was able to sniff out that something was wrong is that he looked at the nature of Tyr not the form of him
Omg. I could cry.
Exactly. Brok judges by nature just like a master smith. Tyr knows how to travel to Asgard but didn’t mention anything and walking off with the mask in his hand doesn’t make sense for someone who wants peace only.
Brok also kinda not intimidated nor respect "Tyr", not having bias like the others
@@hafirenggayuda good observation brother.
This made me miss Brok so much…
The biggest clue I picked up on was when he
stabbed Brok in the chest and revealed himself to
be Odin the whole time. It was subtle, but that was what convinced me that something wasn't right with Tyr

I also noticed that tyr right after recovering from running away once you set him free, bonks his head into a low ceiling, meaning he isn’t used being in such a tall body
oh damn thats really cool
I never noticed that, great detail
And even then we would think in our first playthrough that "Tyr" isn't used to moving since he was locked for soo long
Not wrong, but I bump my heard all the goddamn time
I hate it when comments don’t have a time stamp
Props to the voice actor for Tyr too for channeling the speech patterns and tones of Odin while keeping a completely different character.
This!! I love stuff like that, that's not just script work, but down to the actors' and imitations of another. It's so subtle if you're not intimately familiar with most details in the game, and so interesting to see the second time around.
To be fair tho, the actual Ty'r only shows up post game and his whole demeanor is different. You'd never think these two were the same. But he still fooled the people who already knew him personally (Freya and Mimir)
This! I only noticed after going back a rewatching these clips. He speaks the same as Odin. Friendly and trusting yet so manipulative
didn't know the real Tyr appears in the post game. Another reason to keep playing.
Yees! I can totally hear Odin's voice saying those exact things. Amazing.
Odin really took the expression “Keep your friends close and your enemies closer” to heart, except that he doesn’t have any friends…
bro was literally living in his enemies house rent free and was cooking dinner for them lmao. glad to see santa monica know what type of god odin really is. he may not be as flashy as zeus but the one eyed god would convince zeus to pay electric bills
Honestly his "friends" were his family. Heimdall, Thrud (giving how she trusted him so much), and even Thor. He just viewed them as tools
@@yabadodo8566 yeah i am honestly impressed with how they nailed Odin
It was all an illusion
I just realized Loki uses Odin's word against him at the end of the game. "There is always a choice."
It's called cruel irony.
Yeah, old one-eye should be grateful for the other eye he retained.
Hes just like his father
Atreus does that frequently during the game to everyone, almost like a second Odin
Tf lol, it's too common to write about he also uses " we must be better on kratos too" all game its obivous as .....ck
I wonder how these people even completed the game , must have seen lot of tutorials on YT
I think that the reason that Artreus is teleported outside Asgard and forced to climb the wall is to buy some time for Odin to teleport back when it's not suspicious.
That actually makes a lot of sense when you think of it.
Good eye! Thats clever writing paired with meaningful gameplay
That, and also so he could have atreus meet up with Heimdall so he could later undo the tension between the two, making him seem like the good guy who prevented heimdall from killing him
i thought it was to make atreus meet heimdall, who odin knows is an asshole, so that when odin comes in and resolves the conflict, he makes himself look better in front of atreus.
Also worth noting that when Atreus comes back the time after unleashing Garm. The group is battling Hel Walkers. “Tyr” comes out at the last second, probably bc it took Odin some time to get back after JUST talking to Atreus about the whole situation in Asgard.
When 'Tyr' first sees the prophecy, he bumps into Atreus on the same side as Odin's missing eye.
Holy ur right
That’s some masterful observation
Ok that's a reach
@@mydude8731 hold a hand over one eye and you'd be surprised how much vision you lose.
He usually has his Ravens to make up for that but when he's Tyr he doesn't have that luxury.
clearly not on odins part
Missed one. They said in god of war 4 that tyr was entrusted with the giants secrets, yet “tyr” said they were very private people and he did not know much
If I learn secrets of a race of people who are wanted dead, chances are I'm gonna act like I don't know anything either 💀
Didn't know anything about the loki prophecy, Faye (just that he heard about her), Didn't know anything about the Unity Stone/jumping off the edge of the world tree... which HE helped put together in his temple.
Yeah they ask lots of questions that the REAL tyr would have the answers to! but says he doesn't know anything...so yeah I already knew this wasn't the real tyr at all from the start
And that the real one knew the steps to getting into Jotunheim. Would've mentioned one of two of them by then.
Oh yeah
The 4 biggest hints to me after re-playing were.
1. When the group learns that Goa hid the true prophecy. Odin's pure shock and horror to realize all the preparations mean nothing. And the outbursts of anger he has towards Atreus and Kratos.
2. If you go back to the "cell" we rescued him from. There's tons of raven feathers covering the floor.
3. The way he tries to stroke Atreus' ego after they learn he's the champion of the Giants.
4. And I think this is the biggest tell. When Freya first enters Sindri's home he calls her Frigg. Which is stated by Mimir to be something that only Odin ever called her as a cute nickname.
And not really a tell but the fact that Tyr this 10 foot tall god that towers over even Kratos fit himself in a broom closet just made me chuckle but realizing Odin just used the area to go back and forth between Sindri's home and Asgard makes a lot more sense than him curling up in a ball trying to fit LMAO
Wait the broom closet thing actually makes so much sense as I was wondering how Odin was able to travel back and forth without the others getting suspicious of him disappearing all the time
There's a couple others who call her frigg though.
@@T-roccBABY who?
@@Atticus711just Aesir gods I think?
Heimdall and Sif I believe both refer to Freya as “Frigg” during at least one point in the game…tho Heimdall saying it is right before the fight with him and Freya is the companion…and he probably does it solely to piss her off to lose her focus.
Sif I think says it during a random side conversation during one of the mask building missions.
There is another huge hint you didn't mention.
The first time Atreus goes to Asgard and is walking around with Odin, Odin let's a big hint slip on accident. He tells Atreus at one point during their walk that "At least Mimir hasn't lost his sense of humor." This line implies Odin has been spending time recently with Mimir. The only time we've seen Odin and Mimir interact recently is at the very beginning when he and Thor came to "talk." But in that scene, Mimir was angry and hostile with Odin; he never made jokes or anything. So Odin bringing up Mimir's sense of humor reveals that Odin has been Tyr and spending time with Mimir at Sindri's house; where Mimir would be relaxed and act more like himself (joking, telling stories, etc...)
I like what your thinking but hes deff talking about visiting the house and mimir being a dick lol
One of his lines before that also I feel was a hint, “Well he hasn’t exactly got a good perspective with my former employee and ex-wife in his ear” Not the exact quote but Atreus only went to Asgard right when Freya moved into Brok and Sindri’s House. Kratos did spend plenty of time with Freya in the last game but with that little detail definitely felt off with me that he mentioned Freya
Honestly that wasn't such a big tell, given the fact that Mimir Immediately went hard on him when he visited their home, So we're kinda mislead to believe he was referring to this moment.
Odin is known for using ravens as his spies to find out what happens in the Nine Realms and he is also spoken of as a god that wants to know everything, so these hints don't actually hint at Odin being Tyr but can simply be a nod towards Odin knowing a lot.
Odin also had plenty of time to talk with Atreus and Mimir when Kratos was fighting with Thor.
Another small hint I noticed: In Alfheim, when Atreus mentions they killed the Dark Elf King, "Tyr" mentions wondering what happened to him. He should have no way of possibly knowing the king even went off the radar.
Also, the way he gets in Sindri's face upon finding out that they took Draupnir is a pretty big one.
He legit gets irritated when hearing about the ring. Another thing i was confused by but ignored lol
I forgot about that, but in the Niflheim prison you see all sirts of prisoners Odin kept alive to turn into, an Elf being among them
Saw a comment over here complaining about Brok being the only one who realized in the end what was happening, calling it the "lowest point" in the game, but i can't find it so I'm just gonna explain why that mindset is superficial and shallow.
Brok is way smarter than most characters, and we see it multiple times throughout the story: when Mimir fails to understand one simple riddle he makes, expecting a complicated answer; when he teaches both Kratos and Mimir about the essence of things and dwarven magic, and when he says the existence or destiny is irrelevant for him because he gets to choose his actions. He is not a dumb character; he is a simple character that doesn't let other's knowledge or perception dictate what he thinks. That's why even if everyone respects Tyr and believes his BS, Brok does not; he doesn't care who he is, all he cares about is he's not making sense at all.
Týr's nature didn't live up to his form.
I believe Brok is Kratos' favourite after Atreus too. Though he grows more fond of everyone in Ragnarok, he grows particularly more fond of Brok even going out of his way to express it.
Also Brok foreshadowed it a bit when he and Kratos went to get the Draupnir Spear.
The nature of a thing is more important than the form a thing. Tyr/Odin's nature didn't match with Tyrs real form, so it makes sense for him to be suspect.
Also Odin has deceived both Mimir and Freya in the past, kinda makes sense he can do so again
The payoff to Brok being the one to figure it out is immediate. Odin says, "Of all the things..."
A simple dwarf blacksmith ruining the plan of the All-Father, King of the Aesir? It's poetic justice, it's pride before the fall...it's a lot of things!
Also love the detail that Brok was so offended when Tyr said there's another way to Asgard, because Brok and Syndri know all the ins and outs of all the realms except Asgard and Johtenheim. And Brooks proud of that knowledge but all of a sudden Tyr has a way, when this conversation started I got a bad feeling.
I was completely oblivious to any hints (well, I recognized one or two but shrugged them off as, "Eh. I'm sure in 2018 they explained how Tyr and Freya were super close so he too called her Frigg and I just completely forgot. Oh well 🤷♂️". But yeah, once Brok started getting confrontational I was like, "Uh oh. I don't like where this...WHAT THE FUCK!?!? NOOO!! 😳"
Took me a while go realize that Odin was Tyr. My brain was so rattled by what happened that I actually thought Tyr was working WITH Odin and after he stabbed Brok, he teleported out of there and Odin appeared.
I was legit like, "Wait! Where did Tyr go!?!?". Took a bit to realize what had actually happened. Lol
@@hersh23 same, I thought taht Tyr was working for Odin too

I think in 7:09 “Tyr” slipped because he somehow defended Odin by saying he only wanted “peace” even though the real Týr would absolutely know that Odin cannot be trusted in his promises as pointed out by Freya.
An interesting thing I noticed when Atreus was in Asgard was while in Odin's library, I was looking around to see everything he had. Then on his desk, I saw the same travel door diagram that Brök and Sindri made. At 1st when I saw it, I thought it was that the level designers messed up and put that there by accident. After finding out about Tyr, it made sense why he had it.

Which cutscene are you talking about out?
@@jordank4946The scene at 7:15
I like how around 11:00 the whole scene is warm with orange lighting. Pretty much symbolizing a spark of rebellion, giving us a fighting chance. But when brok started to sus "tyr" out, the lighting switches to a cool blue. Making us feel unsettled like something isn't right and we don't like where this is going, and it paid off in the end when "tyr"revealed that he was odin. I love the work they put in the scenery, just wanted to point it out.
Yeah, same. I noticed that shift, too, but with the music. It got subtly foreboding and like there's something off, but you don't know what, just that something bad is coming

One thing I noticed is that mimir states Odin finds it difficult to turn down a challenge in his story about the Asgardian wall. When Brok tells “tyr” to try making food he accepts without hesitation, seeing it as a challenge and slamming down on the table. Along with that (as many people have pointed out) he used vegetables in the soup, Odin wouldn’t normally do this but since he was challenged and didn’t want to lose, he acted carelessly. “Tyr” also begins to become more agitated with brok near the end when he calls his food “passable dirt soup”, seeing it as Brok saying he underperformed in the challenge.
One question, HOW the hell would you know what type of soup Odin would make... none of this is passable
@@ThePlatinumVault why do I need to know? All I need to know is broks opinion on it
@@ThePlatinumVault I believe I read somewhere that Brok asked where Tyr got the vegetables for the soup he makes them, as they are only capable of being grown in Asgard during Fimbulwinter
lmao this is a stretch but it's still hilarious to think
Imagine Odin muttering to himself after stabbing Brok and escaping the house: "take that you stupid dwarf. My soup is NOT just 'passable'"
I'd like to think Odin wouldn't have killed Brok until he called his soup bad. At that point, it was personal
I feel like I haven’t seen anyone point this out:
When “Tyr” is dragging the Elf, he proclaims “there’s always a choice!”
So when Atreus says that to Odin in the end, he learned it from the very man himself
Using his own line against him unknowingly

Still was cool to notice things and still leaks + actions in-game didn't fully align when I played
Like no way Odin would be able to be in 2 places at once. Or to have Týr's abilities, like Hulk jumping. I thought Týr would double-cross the team for his own reasons, "for the greater good of Nine Realms" or any other bullshit, like of course we can't truly trust him.
But no. Odin impersonating Týr theory was right all along. Also leaked images (some art book) having topless Týr's with tattoos and a spear... What a bamboozle from both developers and leakers.
Maybe a god that wants to kill kratos more than kratos is able to kill him
@@Markuzsosa Like a Gorr the Godkiller situation ?
Living in a country where calls for peace and harmony are immediately used when people have a religious complaint, it is hardly new to me unfortunately.
Once you understand that peace and civility is a weapon used by the status quo, conflict only upsets them.
I always knew that tyr was off. Like when you first release him the door to his prison is so unbelievably weak and has no magic guarding it. If Odin wanted some locked away he would used magic like Freya. Another thing was the fact that he didn't have any scars from torture, isn't chained up, and the clothing isn't tattered or damaged.
I mean, the real tyr you find later on doesn't have any scars either as far as I'm aware
Yeah, we saw how he treated people who "betrayed" him in the past through Freya and Mimir. 'Tyr' got off far too easy.
From the moment Odin told Atreus to stop looking for Tyr, I knew
Also it’s rich that Odin portrayed Týr as someone who’d be afraid of a severed head (Mimir). The war god afraid of a severed head
I let it slide thinking it was a psychological torture
You also forgot to add the scene where Brok insults “Tyr” for making stew with vegetables in it. We know because of Mimir that the only places that can grow food are Svartalfheim and Asgard. And because Svartalfheim is being occupied by Asgardian forces they can’t grow their own food either, and are forced to buy it from Asgard. Meaning the only way “Tyr” would have access to vegetables is if he traveled to Asgard.
But how did they not notice this? Mimir being the smartest man alive should definetly see this as suspicious at the very least.
People are talking about how good this twist is, while in reality the writers themselves had to hold back information from the players to not draw suspicion, and also make the characters dumber in order to hide their twist.
i noticed that as well thinking "huh, vikings eating vegetarian?" but brushed that off because i thought that was a stupid assumption to think vikings only eat meat and jerky
@@tamas9554 This is the major problem with the twist. How did Freya or Mimir not know it wasn't Tyr, when they knew his personality already and couldn't work out it was Odin who they also both knew. Kratos and Atreus get a pass because they didn't know much about Tyr or Odin from first hand experience and Freyr wasn't around 'Tyr' for that long.
Mimir is supposed to be the smartest man alive but Brok is the one who figures out Tyr is hiding stuff.
@@ItsAv3rageGamer Yeah, and of course us the players can't know it either
@@ItsAv3rageGamer probably thinking he has changed after torture, don't forget Odin also knew about tyr on somewhat a personal level and also can always ask and find out how he acted
You know a twist is fuckin great when you go back and feel SOOO dumb for not seeing it coming but it surprised you all the same. I remember as it unfolded there were times where “Tyr” said things that made u think “hmmm that was odd” but brushed it off because you took it as “eh he probably is just different now because of how badly he was tortured and how recent it was. Well done Santa Monica
In addition to all these specific moments, I think there were subtle hints in the way he acted throughout the game. Tyr always seemed preachy, annoying, cowardly, and impractical with his pacifism. After the twist, that makes perfect sense: it's because that's what Odin thinks pacifism is. Even though Odin's a master manipulator, he couldn't convincingly imitate Tyr's pacifism because he doesn't understand it.
Here are some other hints I noticed
1. Tyr wanting to stay in a broom closet after being confined to a small space for many year
2. Didn’t want to go to the norms because he didn’t believe in prophecy, but in reality was afraid of the norms figuring him out,
3. Not liking bricks food from when they first sat down and eat
4.calling Odin all father after sitting in
a chair
5. Renouncing all violence despite hitting a light elf
6. Reacting to draupnir
7. Giving the idea that they should go to groas shrine
7. Calling freya frigg
the first one makes sense though, people who get let out of solitary have problems with holing up in rooms
b r i c k ' s f o o d
I don't like bricks food either
I don't get the third one? What's the hint about not liking the food?
@@poxii7369 it's because 'Tyr' is used to vegetables from Asgard i believe, eating any food outside of Asgard might seem unpleasant since it won't be as "good"
Tyr turning into Odin was epic. I absolutely DID NOT see that coming. What a twist it was! Im so glad that I got to enjoy this game. GOW3 was my All-time-favourite from this series but now I can proudly say that GOWR is the best of all of them. Cant wait for the next one.
Even in the first game. Baldur's dialogues gave the impression that he knew who Kratos were. But we realized he was just tracking a Giant, the dialogues made sense in a different way.
That’s also why Baldur says when he sees Kratos for the first time “I thought you’d be taller”
He was actually tracking faye . Thats why he says " im not my brother" because of their fight in the crater when thor was shitface drunk . Im sure he didnt remember that it was a female or was just to embarrassed. Thats why he says this feels familiar when they make the frozen thunder in kratos first fight against Thor
Another clue : the others all had their obvious space in Sindri’s home and ALL were accessible when at Sindri’s home, but “Tyr” was often hiding in a locked closet. During those times he wasn’t around, you couldn’t even interact with the door of said closet, you couldn’t hear him speak, move. Etc. I think Freya complains he’s suffering something like anxiety or ptsd to excuse how he’s hiding.
He wasn’t there. He can’t be in two places in once so he would go to the closet, lock himself there then transport in and out as needed - none of them would notice. Anyone talking to the closet would think he was ignoring them or sleeping.
While playing the game and considering Odin being Tyr, the thought of him moving around so much was the biggest thing that cast doubt in my mind. But it just made too much sense for him to have been Tyr
Going through the story of god of war ragnarok the first time around, it's a surprise to find out that Odin was disguised as Tyr, but looking back at the hints after the story is over, it seemed so obvious that Odin was disguised as Tyr the entire time.
the main clue was how easy they freed him, while it was believed that Tyr will lead the Ragnarok at the time and Odin thought so too
@@chistovmaxim I honestly don't think that how they freed "Tyr" was actually a main clue. Even how "Tyr" referring to Freya as Frigg and talking about Baldur seem like bigger clues.
@@chistovmaxim If anything the big clue with freeing Tyr is that there are raven feathers all over that room.
@@chistovmaxim
Even more so considering the only realm no one could travel to is asgard. Why in hell would tyre be stashed in a dwarvin realm of all places when it makes more sense to imprison him in a realm nobody can go to
@@symbiotezilla12345
The best part about that is, it logically made sense beforehand. We know the realm of the dwarves is subservient to Odin and Asgard, it was spelled out pretty heavily the whole time. So it naturally made sense that Odin would stash an enemy of Asgard in a realm (that was previously also locked and no one could get to), in a realm that is completely loyal to him only.
When you first visit Asgard as Atreus, there’s a brief scene where Odin walks past a guy eating chicken and vegetables. He says “Oh that looks good, is that braised?” This could imply that Odin knows a thing or two about cooking, and is passionate about food.
While he’s disguised as Tyr in Sindri’s house, you can always find him making dinner for the other characters.
Maybe that wasn’t foreshadowing, and I’m just overthinking it. I just thought that was interesting.
Nah you're right but the thing is Brok suspects ''veggies'' because you cant find Vegetables anywhere except Asgard n Svartlfheim (sorry for wrong spelling).
It’s subtle foreshadowing I agree
Came into this game with False Tyr’stwist already spoiled for me, so I knew what was coming, but I had no knowledge of the script. All the hints are so well buried into the story, it’s really impressive. I also love how “Tyr” says he chose his words carelessly when they were very deliberate.
“And give us a pair of eyes in the enemy’s sanctum”
Might be the one thing Odin’s ever said that was straight up
Even Freja and Frejr looked at Kratos with confusion, when Tyr said that he will lead them to Asgard..
It's crazy knowing that Odin was Tyr all along and starting NG+. Rewatching these cutscenes now you can pick up on subtle things that hint at his identity. My first playthrough I had no idea though 😂.
Tyr also calls a spear as a walking stick, as odin uses his own spear" gungnir" as a walkin stick.
My favorite part of 3:22 is the camera is literally telling you who is causing the tension between Atreus and Kratos.
It's such brilliant writing. I never saw it coming but once I went back and put the pieces together, it all fit perfectly. I read something yesterday about Odin's lust for power and control being his downfall. He had to be in control. And as soon as Brok exposed him, he lost it. If he hadn't killed Brok, he'd still be alive. Atreus, Kratos, and Freya all decided to let him live. It was Sindri who killed him as vengeance for Brok. The writers of this game should be given all the awards. Brilliant.
Remember Brok found out his "sould bits" were dead because he couldn't talk to the mermaid, then at the end of the game Sindri killed Odin's soul. That' a parallel.
I love how the developers get creative with many characters by taking common tropes and turning them on their heads. For example, most of us thought Tyr was a "badass pacifist" who just wanted peace, while smarter players thought he was a spy for Odin. But no one guessed Tyr WAS Odin, while the real Tyr was still locked away somewhere (not dead).
Another example: Everyone expected Odin to be a cliche villain who has an intimidating dimeanor and laughs with an evil laugh, but instead he's just a down-to-earth guy who speaks like any ordinary person, making him _truly_ manipulative because actual manipulative people don't sound like Thanos, or Palpatine, or Voldemort, or Firelord Ozai. They sound like your friend or neighbor or co-worker.
Another example is Freya. After Freya becomes a Valkyrie queen, frees herself from Odin's curse, forgives Kratos, reconciles with her brother, and liberates her homeland from the Aesir, Kratos encourages her to lead the assault on Asgard. We all expected her to take on the challenge and further develop her leadership arc, but she instead refuses the position and asks that Kratos lead the assault because he has extensive experience as a war general.
Then you have Thor, whose body isn't at all like that of Chris Hemsworth, but more like that of Kevin James. You also have Thrud, who doesn't fit the skinny girl archetype that most female characters in video games and movies do, but actually takes from her father by being slightly heavyset.
You also have Mimir. You think he's just another wise and lovable comic relief guy, but there's also instances where you're angry with him or question his virtues. For example, his bondage of the whale and his mediation of Freya's unhappy marriage.
Finally you have Sindri. Another lovable character you'd never expect to turn so cold.
Things like that. The creativity in how the characters in GOW are written is what makes them feel so real and memorable as opposed to, say, the characters of Assassin's Creed Valhalla which feel so stale and predictable by comparison. Kudos to Santa Monica studios!
Older assassin's creed (ezio trilogy) were goated
I love odin in the game
He's like a Mob Boss with the scratchy grandpa voice, the 'reasonable' speech, clever plans, silver tongue, and his whole inner circle Is a family
Also with Sindri, he no longer cares about germs by the end. After the death of his brother he not only becomes cold, but he no longer cares about cleanliness, the story ending with him covered in dirt and blood
Thor is supposed to have a big stomach

A sociopath really, he didn't care about anything except his ultimate goal. Had me to the point if WANTING to see the mask get used
9:05 was when I started getting suspicious, it’s a brilliant line. Having eyes in the enemy sanctum. Seems so innocuous, unless you’ve been paying real close attention. Dialogue in this game is top tier
Tyr is also confused when atreus tells him about the unity stone
Could u explain further what ur talking about here?
@@AliZYT @AliZ the first time you take tyr to sindris house you go through the realm between realms. There you can bring him to the ledge where you jump off with the unity stone in the first game to get to the Jotunheim tower. A dialogue triggers "tyr this is where we jumped with unity stone, and it protected us!" Tyr responds "oh yes, so much work to protect the giants. Did it work?"
@@atlas-2260 damnn I didn’t know this and I thought I had seen all dialogue in this game. Seems like I was completely wrong
@@atlas-2260 I'm glad someone finally mentioned this, I haven't seen anyone mention it in "Odin is tyr hints" videos on this bit of dialogue I picked up on it straight away I was like what do you mean "did it work" you helped them escape
He’s also always shown as standing or emerging from the dark/shadows and shown from a low camera angle which makes him appear larger and more intimidating. This is frequently used by filmmakers and creates a contrast between him and the other characters while also creating an unsettling or “off” feeling when he is shown.
Visual Foreshadowing!
to be fair... he was pretty damn large compared to everyone else lol
@@edelleaa My hint was when he was approaching Kratos and Freya talking to each other, he was walking in the shadows with only his eyes lit-up. Really freakin' ominous!
Honestly every time I returned to Sindri's place from doing story or side quests I ALWAYS looked for Tyr just to see what he was up to because I thought he was cool and I could NEVER find him. He never showed up until there was a cutscene and he would just appear mysteriously from off screen. I just assumed he had shut himself in the broom cupboard but it makes sense now that he wasn't actually there because he was off doing Odin stuff, using the raven in the cupboard as a discreet way to travel back and forth
9:03: “and give us a pair of eyes in the enemy’s inter-sanctum”
Orin’s double meaning is crazy
Not to forget during the Visions of ragnarok Odin Tyr walks forward to take a closer look only to bump into Atreus on the side where He is missing his eye.
Also theres a little moment before you get the spear to kill Heimdall where they admit they stole Draupnir. Sindri is walking out of the little stall and Tyr towers over him and stands his way while saying "*They* stole Draupnir?" Sindri almost bumps into him and sorta looks up at Tyr and he's gazing back with pure anger.
There’s a few others. Like when after Atreus leaves and tyr says ‘the boy seems quite capable perhaps if you simply give him some time’ an obvious attempt for more time to complete the mask. And when Atreus wants to go back to Asgard. Tyr tries to persuade he’s at risk anyway. And he even projects himself by saying. ‘It would give us a pair of eyes in the enemy inner sanctum.
It still shocks Me that Odin was Tyr in Disguise and Rewatching the Story made so Much Sense Now,also you Forgot to add “Tyr” finding Out that Sindri and Brok stole Odin’s Ring while Tyr is Upset and Odin telling Kratos about Gods Wotship Gods.
I started questioning Tyr from the start bc he was like I’m all about peace and don’t want no war but encouraging Artreus to follow his prophecy when that leads to war
First time I noticed was when he was super curious about what happened when kratos stepped into the light. Reminds me of the story mimir said his curiosity and lust for knowledge overwhelms him
I don't know if this is just a glitch, but if you have been to the raven tree and go to sindri's house, you can still hear the ravens near "Tyr's" room
i never knew where his room was
Perhaps a glitch - or an implication
this is too specific to be a glitch
really smart hinting
Nah bro its a glitch, i went to musphlheim and the raven tree sounds were there. Usually happens when are in niflheim and go to other realm
I had a feeling that Tyr wasn't to be trusted not long after rescuing him, around when he says to Freya "So, you're not here to prevent Ragnarok?", but I thought it would be more along the lines of Odin having brainwashed and gaslighted him into trying to prevent Ragnarok at any cost. I did not expect Tyr to actually BE Odin, and I did not expect it to end with Brok's death. That indulgence of my expectations whilst also subverting them was something I was not ready for at all. Hats off to the writers for that one.
I didn't pick up on #6.. wow... That one was so obvious, and I still completely missed it, despite already not trusting Tyr
When the game first came out like 3 hours into release I saw a comment on this guys theory breaking down why ty is Odin the whole time and that lives rent free in my head and wherever that dude is he’s a legend.
what really got me was that shock and realization that Odin was always there. In most of the previous games most bad guys don't feel like a big threat cz you know Kratos will wreck anyone in his way but with the question of how Kratos's fate will play out and how Odin was set up really made him feel like an actual God of War villain since Zeus in the second game.
I realised that with subtitles on Odin's Týr is just "Tyr" while the actual Týr is "Týr"
Even the cadence in his speech is like Odin's when he gets frustrated. That is TOP NOTCH voice acting.
It said that Tyr is going to lead the War against Asguard but he never did he was in a Prison for the Entire Game. I believe that instead of it being Tyr the Board was giving a more broad of an answer and instead of it being Tyr it would be a God of War. So Odin tried preventing it but another God of War interjected to continue the Prophecy that being Kraros.
So imagine the shock that Odin hiding in plain sight of Tyr still seeing the Prophecy is the same because he didn't count Kratos being the God of War that would Substitute The Fate.
makes sense like in original series as well, Kratos was a replacement in case of another prophecy.
Or, in my point of view, "Tyr" still led the war. Although he was in prison, the characters were moved by the real Tyr's memory and Odin being discovered as Tyr, because the group attacked following the reveal. Basically, TYR the god never led them, but Odin as Tyr did, and the prophecy never really said he had to be on the battlefield, let alone actually there. It only showed his body.
A god of war that also ended up wielding a spear btw
@@stefvanroey8191 exactly you're right. The God of War is depicted as holding a spear that just further goes to show that when trying to prevent your faith you assist it in the end.
Wait, groa writes prophecies based on her dreams, what if she just saw a God of war will lead the army and thought that Tyr will be the one cause she didn't knew kratos existed?
That was my exact thought I got when Freya told kratos to lead the army
Impos-Tyr's dirt soup used vegetables that could only be produced in Asgard during Fimbulwinter. Another hint they dropped on us.
“Impos-tyr” lol love that
@@sierra2502, thank you! Lots of practice with being punny in my field. 😂
Was there ever a time that freya had suspicions about Tyr?
Especially after completing her companion quest, and finding out her time with Odin was so miserable for her and their marriage led her people to hate her, it would have been cool if there was a dialogue from freya about Tyr not seeming the same, reminding her of someone, having an uneasy feeling around him, etc.
She had some close contact with Odin, so she should have noticed something.
That would be cool, but I feel like such a line would raise speculation too early. I feel like a different cadence or facial expression in the way she speaks after tyr says something suspicious would work, however. Still make the plot twist feel out of nowhere and unfounded
@@curllumI think she was too blinded by vengeance to see it
after knowing "Tyr"'s true identity it becomes apparent how ominous he always was. something about his eyes, but i sure damn didnt expect it. rip brock
When Tyr was talking about Odin's promise I thought it was just an oversight by the writers because not once was Odin's deal to Kratos discussed with Tyr, and now it all makes sense knowing Odin was Tyr.
Another hint is that “Tyr” was frustrated that the huldra brothers took back Draupnir. The real Tyr likely wouldn’t have cared about that and would be more interested on how the dwarves can make a weapon from a ring. I think Tyr always admired dwarves ingenuity and wanted to loosing Orin’s grip on their realm but failed or couldn’t do much.
There is another hint, right before the big reveal, when Atreus just gets back from Asgard, "Tyr" shows up late to the fight, Mimir takes notice of this after he asks "Is it over?" which he replies with "Not thanks to you", weird sounds can be heard before "Tyr" opens the door and asks the question, implying Odin teleported right behind the door.
I like how in some scenes while the characters are talking you could see Tyr in the background with a shadow looming over him. (Or like not that much lighting on him as to compared to other characters) with his menacing eyes lol. Very fine work of subtle foreshadowing if you ask me. And playing it the second time makes you appreciate all these miniscule subtle details that they’ve put in the game. Like in 9:19 My God this game is truly a cinema lol
When you think about the time we spent on different ideas and theories on What Odin is capable on doing during ragnarok and yet here we are. Man, gotta love gaming community. Especially Jon's discord! 😁😁
I like how Kratos is like "We are not present in this prophecy" because he has no idea the featured god of war with a spear is actually him.
Its crazy because I just thought he was a broken god turned into a pacifist that just wants peace but now watching back and knowing he’s Odin, he’s clearly way more sinister than I originally thought.
Notice that when "Tyr" is shocked upon learning the prophecy, he's so transfixed that he accidentally bumps into Atreus on his right.
"Why is this notable?"
Remember how Odin is missing an eye and thus has a blindspot? It just so happens to also be his right.
My first clue this wasn't the real Tyr is when he called Freya 'Frigg'.
My favorite hint about him not being the actual Týr is that in every single thing that he is mentioned in, be it writing or someone saying his name, the y has an accent over it, but whenever "Tyr" speaks, in the Speaker's Name, Tyr does not have an accent over the y
For me the most important and obvious tell was the "Deal with Odin" It went over my head and it was one of those "Hidden in plain sight things" the game is so good that it distracted me from that fact. I never thought for a second in my play through "wwaaaiiittt a minute.. How'd he know about that?!"
“Happy Ragnarok everybody… *switches tone* let’s drink” 😂
I can’t believe that I never saw it before. It was right in front of me all along. The biggest foreshadow was the subtitles when “Tyr” first speaks after you break him out.
Whenever he spoke, the subtitles would spell “Tyr”. But when anyone else spoke his name, it would spell “Týr”.
1:44 i remember thinking how odd it was that "tyr" was dragging the elf he killed by the foot after being supposedly devastated he murdered it. like "why is he dragging the elf instead of carrying it if hes so upset??" this game is amazing
Brok knew all along especially when he makes the dirt soup 😂
The whole time playing I was sayin I don’t trust Tyr but i never expected him to be Odin
I love how Freyr communicates with Kratos without a word before throwing the mask, they just looking at each other for a while and come up with a plan
Another thing I noticed on my third playthrough, you can hear Odin's theme play at certain times when focused on Tyr, like at 0:37.
I love how often "tyr" is framed between Kratos and Arteus, he's always in the picture and always trying to get between these too
Y’know I feel like Odin could’ve played off that leading to Asgard thing. He could’ve said something like “I do not have a way to Asgard myself. But I am a prisoner of Odin and now have his most prized possession. If I threaten to brake the mask it will for sure get his attention. He will send Hugin out for me and that is when you step in.“ or something like that idk
Yes but they were attempting to get the jump on odin, so he had to play along with that
Good lord the fact that this vid hits my recommended list right after I complete that chapter is crazy.
Try was my favourite. He was so damn kind and seemed to only want to do right. The twist was gut wrenching, especially since he killed Brok, my 2nd favourite.
Damn you’re beta
"All the pieces aint welding together true*
SherBrok Holmes..
My biggest catch on my first playthrough was the fact that this Tyr was only tied to a rope by the neck and kept in a cell in a mine with literally no guards around...
Its why Kratos looked at the rope with confusion. "This? Is the god of war?." Because Kratos was binded by the sisters of fate with chains.
When a stranger feels they have greater authority over your child's decisions, especially when you're a chad like Kratos, that's a red flag.
I find the close ups hilarious😂😂
I was sooo oblivious that Tyr was Odin until the rising tension between him and Brok. I was like, what's this tension, this bad feeling... don't tell me-
Another one is when Brok and Sindri talk about Draupnir, when they say they have it, “Tyr” says,”YOU stole draupnir?!” Why would Tyr care? He says it as if he’s shocked it was THEM who stole it from Odin.
For number 6. I just thought that Kratos had told the group while we were off playing Atreus. Bc freya didn’t really question it imo
You should make a video of every Old kratos moment, and every time he shows the old self and badassness insert an image of GOW 3 kratos 😂
I always noticed that when they were at home "Tyr" was always in the dark or shadow rather than the light like everyone else.
There are also three details that could also clue you in on Tyr's true identity. One was when Tyr stood in from on those spears in the Jothun shrine. Then later Odin talks to Kratos and walks over to spears. There's when Tyr called a spear that was offered to him a walking stick. Odin later uses his spear as walking stick. And lastly Brok brings up the fact that Tyr's stew has vegetables in it. While this could just mean Sindr stocked some fruits and vegetables. Asgard is the corner stone for most vegetable and fruit exports as mentioned by Mimir. So it's likely he either just like vegetables or brought them from Asgard. Those are some details i noticed.
How was Odin in Asgard and tyr at the same time
@@SkiMaskWay364 They weren't. He had his raven stashed in the broom closet to allow him to travel back to Asgard at any time.
I remember thinking tyr is ruffling too many feathers with his words for someone not wanting to go to war..
I had my suspicion when Tyr stabbed Brok then transformed into Odin. But idk I wasn’t too convinced.
Same I just thought he was having a bad day
On my first playthrough, I didn't pick up on the hints towards a plot twist and when the twist happened, it felt like it didn't pop outta nowhere. That's genuinely a sign of great writing
The story was so well written. I shed a tear at the end of the game
Me too!
It was the start that got me😢 lost my doggo few months before and fenrir felt way too real
I've played it twice and both times was serious depressed at the end. End game is hard without Atreus.
@@kajekage9410 I've played it twice and both times i did all side missions too 100%... only game I've ever done it all. Only game I came close to doing 100% fully was batman arkham
@@gerryinkstains9876 The second time I didn't finish all the side stuff because I rushed through the story and once Atreus is gone it just doesn't feel right. My second playthrough was actually a back to back NG+ of both games as I Just wanted to experience the story again. Definitely a sadness once it's all over. If they don't make a sequel to this, which is what they're saying, I think they're nuts. I think Atreus should come back after like 6 months with some giants and they know about the mask and the rift... and the story goes from there and you actually go across multiple pantheons or something. Not to mention find a way to save Brok. Just my desire lol
2:05 That’s such a nice callback. I never noticed the line Atreus says to Odin is the same one he says as Tyr.
I noticed something was off with the first one during Groa’s prophecy, everyone’s talks about how he bumped Atreus I didn’t notice that till I saw other videos bring it up but it was his anger toward the prophecy, i understand that he’s a god that looks for reasoning and not war, but It just seemed like a personal anger when you get lied to that’s what got me thinking something isn’t right about Tyr.
I cant unhear Odins voice in Tyr's now such a great game!
