  • God of War Ragnarok has a fantastically crafted story, however,*- it can be pretty complicated to understand when playing through the game due to the shire size and length of the campaign and story mode. However, in this video, I have gone through my 22 hours of gameplay and broken down the story of GOW Ragnarok and explained how it links with God of War 2018, and exactly what happens throughout. If you have any questions please leave them below in the comments! God of War Ragnarok Story EXPLAINED! (GOW Ragnarok Full Story Breakdown & Lore)

    My head canon is that when Thor killed Kratos and revived him in their first fight, that was actually the prophecy coming to fruition.

    • @shad3115
      @shad3115 Год назад +76

      The prophecy on the wall shows Atreus holding Kratos in his arms crying or something, but since Atreus wasn’t there to hold Kratos when the time came maybe the prophecy was never going to be fulfilled since the beginning of the game. Maybe Faye destroying the mural changed fate.

      Nah, the Norns said fate in this land more works because people can’t change their nature. When Kratos trusts Thrud, extends an olive branch to Thor, and tell Atreus to open his heart and save civilians, he changes from how he has previously been. In doing so, the events that would’ve come from him remaining stubbornly violent are altered

    This is a re-upload of my God of War Ragnarok Explanation video because the previous one got age restricted? The video took me 40 hours to create and it was doing so well. It's also subtle, but in Kratos's shrine, you can see the embossed shape of Thor and Atreus, meaning this was the death mural of Kratos we saw in the past; but it has been painted over with this new future of him uniting the people and being beloved by the people. Faye changed their future and guided them both towards a more beautiful future that would persist long after she was gone; for her son and Kratos whom she loved. She changed the future where Kratos would die, signified by how it was painted over with this new future.

      @@alizayd4040 Like the Fates said "You are the sum of your choices, nothing more." and Atreus mentioned that in prophecy, only the big events get forseen, the details are up to us and can be changed. The GoW fate and prophecy system works in a bit of a hybridization of these 2 concepts.
      With this in mind, Faye, having seen this future, rejected it. Her people, the giants, forsee the future with their future sight and embrace it as their culture. Faye went against the entire culture of her people and fought to change that fate. She broke shrine in Jotunnheim to prevent Kratos and Atreus from knowing their future. So that all their choices will be theirs alone, and not blindly follow a prophecy they saw (it was referenced several times that people in knowing their fate, try to change it, and thir efforts to change fate only end up leading to that fate they try to escape. So Faye changed small details and with her future sight, made extensive preparations before her death. She painted guiding markers (which we see as guides for where to climb,etc), set up a safe haven for Atreus to grow in safety, then got Kratos to cut down the tree that hid them from the gods, knowing that it will set them on the path towards changing their fate.

    • @brandondelacruz4170
      @brandondelacruz4170 9 месяцев назад +1

      I love this because it all ties back in to the concept of hope. Faye put all her hopes into Kratos, because she could see the man that he could become. Hope that Kratos will grow and better himself. She believed in the god that she knew Kratos could become.

    First about the part with the marbles or rather the thing you were talking about with rocks, they aren't rocks that look like bodies they ARE bodies. Angrboda says that they just left a big enough pile of corpses to make Odin think they were all dead.
    Second Freyr didn't marry Groa he married Gerdr whom he gave up his sword for.
    Third Atreus took MODI'S room, not MAGNI's.
    Fourth Sutr is a fire giant and Sinmara is a frost giant they are not gods there's a difference between god and giant.
    Fifth The Norns aren't a species They are just three spirits that can see into the future or at least able to predict it incredibly well.
    Sixth Draupnir is MADE of mineral and not A mineral its a ring not a rock.
    Seventh "when draupnir is combined with another mineral" is not what they did, they took a spearhead and draupnir along with some of the essence of wind to which the lady combined with Kratos' blood to make a spear.
    Eight, Thor WAS an alcoholic along with Sif his wife, they both tried to stop drinking and Sif upheld her side while Thor broke it in the mead hall before the brawl.
    Nine AGAIN sinmara and Sutr AREN'T gods, they are giants, Sutr a fire giant and was in Muspelheim and Sinmara is a FROST giant in Niflheim.
    Ten Hildisvini was always a human he was just trapped in his boar form in Midgard.
    Eleven the blades of chaos aren't just filled with primordial fire they were made USING primordial fire or at least with primordial fire. Twelve No not all of the gods of the realms, Vanaheim and Asgard have gods, Niflheim has frost giants, Alfheim has no gods, Muspelheim had fire giants, Helheim doesn't have a god, Midgards gods are the Vanir and Aesir, Svartalfheim doesn't have any gods, and Asgard well its the side the others are fighting oh and Jotunheim has no gods either just giants. Thirteen his name is Atreus not Loki. Fourteen Kratos didn't arrive from Athens he arrived from Olympus' ruins.
    This wraps what details the youtuber got wrong or mixed up. ( it goes along with the video so I wish you luck trying to read it.

      Considering the Blades of Chaos are named after the primordial goddess in Greek Myth, Chaos/Khaos which was the first god to emerge in creation. She answered his prayers for help in finding out his ancestors by disguising him as Hildisvini, and tricking Gygr Hyndla a jotun of writing and text and forced the jotun into giving a memory potion to him so he would not forget what she knew of his ancestors.

      @@calebleach7988 yes that's True but the giants don't have abilites like the gods they can't completely control one element to their will. Whereas the gods have unique powers and abilities. They may be related but fundamentally they are different.

So he, like Brock won't ever be able to have an afterlife. Brock maybe lost because of his direction but that don't mean he can't find the lake of souls necessarily. Sindri couldn't get one part back, that part could have been his direction. So he may find an afterlife yet.

    Like I dig the more gentle Kratos, but really the series is not called the God of Peace or Rebuilder...I love character arcs but not to the point where he is unrecognizable. I already felt he was "weaker" on Ragnarok than in previous games. I understand fatherhood could cause this, but we've explored this side of him. I think we should find a way to bring back his rage and his darker side. Perhaps he falls in love with Freya and she gets killed by the Egyptian gods. This would fuel his rage.
    However, I am thinking more the Moses story is where they'll go. Kratos the savior of the Hebrews and killer of the Egyptian gods.

      first because Mimir recommended it to him to spend time with his son while he still can, and that is what Atreus wanted when he found out that he was still alive thanks to the murals locked in Asgard, second because he does not trust Odin, the peace treaty that suggests to him at the beginning is something that Kratos would have rarely accepted due to different motives, including Mimir and his own experience, thirdly because "according to Atreus" he only wanted him to tell him things, to know if he had answers to what he wanted to know how. Who is Loki or what happened to the giants, from "History" according to him, and that Ragnarok is an event that ends Asgard and the other kingdoms is only in mythology, in this Santa Monica version of mythology Nordica clarifies that only Asgard will fall, I mean in the first game everyone believed that all the kingdoms would die because Groa said so, but in the end it was just a lie that Groa invented to deceive Odin before he killed her, in reality it was only Asgard would fall.

He also knows that fate is a tricky thing so he took no chances with Heimdall, Atreus asked him why he made the spear if he does not belive in the Norns. The main point of the game is Kratos trying to protect his son from Ragnarok since he fears of losing him, but also becouse he does not want to be a god killer again. He accepted Atreus' search for Tyr as long as it did not escalate into war with Asgard. And when he was in his tent before Ragnarok, he had another sleep about Faye and she told him to open his heart to the people, and since he did that he became a god worthy of worship, like in the shrine. And Faye did not save the day, fate can be averted, she made the back of the last shrine since she knew Kratos better than anyone, but she destroyed the end of the first one becouse she knew those things would not happen, but she did not want prophecy to change their actions, so she kinda saved the day, but not in your way.What i mean to say is that by changing like Faye told him, Kratos' actions were drastically different from what the Norns expected,and the Norns said that fate is the sum of your choices, so he survived Ragnarok. And if you did not understand why he was preparing Atreus, it is becouse he feared that Atreus would have to live without him.
