Hi SJ thank you for your service of 33 years very long time. In fact when you were in the police for 4 years thats when i was born. Also in my opinion you should start a youtube channel about policing just the way ben pearson has done after retiring from police working there 19 years.

I'm a serving officer in a different force, I second your view on driving. The driving standards generally speaking are incredible, especially the advanced or "RT" drivers. I worked with one just a few days ago in the same vehicle, but a marked one, a hybrid X5. The way that they fling such a large vehicle into corners (even in the wet weather that we had) and keep full control is incredible.
As for the pursuit part, the comms are second nature, the main part that's important is the operator, or driver, remaining calm and composed on the INTOP pursuit channel so that the controller sat in the force control room doesn't decide to terminate the pursuit near enough from the off.
I've been in a few pursuits myself and heard them regularly on said pursuit channel, and half the time the person doing the commentary sounds uninterested or as if they can't be bothered, with a dull monotone voice, the reality is they are very interested but the moment a controller detects some excitement in an operator or driver's voice during a pursuit they start to think it might become too high risk as they perceive the pursuing officers to be getting "Excited" which leads to tunnel vision and the well known "Red mist" effect, which clouds judgement and ultimately means the officers could continue pursuing a vehicle when the risk is very high and they should be terminating it.
A dull and boring voice with good constant communication and updates, along with advice from a TACAD, is ultimately exactly what is required.

"all police" not all i'm afraid. I'm serving in a different force and driver training is ONLY standard and offered as part of the initial foundation training course in a very SELECT number of police forces across the country. In the force i'm in the average wait for a STANDARD response course (just meaning you can make progress and utilise exemptions) is around 7 years.
Most officers with IPP have got 7-10 years in and most advanced drivers have 10-15 years in the job if not more.

Great video Archie. People seem to think they can out run the Police. It’s really not worth trying, it usually ends badly for the vehicle being pursued. A friend of mine who was a Police officer wisely said “you can’t outrun the radio. More Police will be waiting for you further down the road” which is very true.

Great video Archie, I agree with you about those trained like Dan, however, not all seem to be trained to the same degree. I was in Cannock, Staffordshire a few years ago and saw, as I waited in a car with three other people to go right through the lights at a 3 way junction, when along comes a police car from our left (Hyundai Estate) and it smashed into bollards at the centre of the junction. If that wasn't enough, another police car (of the same make) came zooming up, and crashed into the back of the first police car. I don't think anyone was injured, but can you imagine them getting back to the station and reporting to the boss... On the beat you four, for three months!

This is great until they break into your home and then threaten you for the keys. Police encourage you to leave the keys where they can easily be seen so they don’t try to use force against you. All in all either way you cannot win. If they want your car they’ll take car. Security posts if you don’t have a garage are the best deterrent.
