@@dom24363 In some forces, yes. Not every force though.
@@dom24363 Yes but it's very uncommon. I'm a serving officer in a different force and a pursuit course in the force I work for takes years and years, typically most pursuit drivers have got in excess of 10 years in the job.

I impress upon my family and friends all of the time NOT to use their mobile phones apart from handsfree - even if the car is stationary: it's an offence if you are on a public highway, even to touch the screen. Use handsfree or don't use it at all. Period. Great video. Surrey Police are stars for allowing you this access. I have been on many of these patrols, having worked in policing for 20 years. Sadly, despite well reported cases where drivers have been on their phones and killed people due to their lack of attention, and been sent to prison, people still do it. More social media influencers need to help educate the public in this way. Well done Archie and Surrey Police.

here in the US, if you caught using your phone in California, you will NOT get any point on your license because it is not a moving violation. Most offenses here is 1 point only. And if you do traffic school they will remove the point. Some other states if you don't have ticket every year you get one positive point, you can accumulate up to 6 positive points.
A few years ago I was riding my bike up the street foing home when there were about 6 police cars and police standing around with what looked like really weird machine guns! One just waved his hand at me, like "find another way home!"

How did the police allow you to be a passenger?
I see people on their phones when their driving all the time when I’m out walking about etc. even though I’m not a traffic officer it still makes me angry and I sometimes say get off your phone. What’s stupid is they try hide their phone under the wheel which is stupid. Officers and people have a right to be angry. It’s people’s lives your putting at risk from your stupidity. It shouldn’t happen but it does. You have a full license. You should know the rules of the road, simple as that.

Yes and no... They're both just as dangerous, however you're statistically more likely to have a crash if you're on your phone.

There’s almost no difference between talking on the phone either hands-free or using hands. It’s the mental distraction of being in a conversation. Hands-free is not much safer. Even mythbusters tried hands-free and they did worse on an obstacle course than a drink-driver. Stay off the phone all together…same with speaking to a mounted camera while driving lol….just as dangerous as a drink driver.

I am so sorry if people disagree with me but i think if you are caught using your mobile phone while in charge of a motor vehicle you should be given an instant 30 days ban and your vehicle impounded for that period of 30 days then you will have to suffer those 30 days using public transport or lifts to get to work and it will show you just how much you rely on your vehicle and would really make you think about what happened when you were caught and not to do it again.
I agree that people shouldn't use their phone while driving, I wish the police would follow the same rules; I see them driving and using their phone all the time. They're supposed to set a good example but they don't. I respect their job and the ones that do it well but there are so many that break the laws they're supposed to enforce.

Have you ever drove in in a UK firearms police officer car?
Can someone please explain to me why people continue to use a phone in their hand when there car is fitted with Bluetooth or a Mirrorlink? I just don't understand it. I fitted a Parrot Bluetooth kit to my car as it didn't come with Bluetooth. Every time I get in my car it automatically links to the Bluetooth, I dont have to do anything. Are people just trying to get 6 points and a £1000 fine? That Telsa is one of the most technically advanced cars in the world but that guy decided that 6 points and a £1000 fine is the better option than connecting the phone to the car. Bizzare.

The rate is interesting - but I suspect that far more people are driving with their phone in their hand than drink driving. So you have to condition on the number of people who do drink drive vs drink drive and kill, plus drink driving is more likely at night so I would expect less cars on the road etc. So yes more people will die from driving with the phone and both crimes are incredible selfish and bad.

The stat on the video is wrong in 2019 around 230 people got killed in uk by drink driving and 17 people by using a mobile phone
