    Unattended children is so savage by the caregivers. I remember walking through Cuba st down here in wellies. Me and my partner had just crossed the road and saw a pram with a baby in it (less than a yr old) in the sun outside a clothing shop. We stopped and observed for about 2mins then approached as it was a really hot day and the 2mins was more than long enough for a child to be alone. Once we assessed the situation we called the police and started looking for the caregivers. Took about 25mins to find the woman looking after the child or rather was suppose to. Turns out the woman was like a nanny who wanted to shop for clothing but not with the child.
    What kind of human leaves a baby alone?? It struck me as weird because she was Asian. I've always found Asians to be really good with their children/ones they're caring for.

    Just curious at 02:38 when you were making that left turn, I noticed that she turned her blinker on to make that turn. I know when running code at least here in the United States that your headlights and and such are wig wags and flashing the whole time. Was that a reflex/muscle memory thing you do when you make a turn or for a purpose lights wise when running code? Thanks!

    Just wanted to ask Constable Hurn, how easy is it to progress into the other career pathways once you have completed your 2 years. Does there need to be a position opening or are they always looking for people to join other teams? (LLB student looking to do organised crimes or detective work). Also want to say a big thank you to all you boys and girls in blue. I'm in my early stages of recruitment in the Auckland district and hope to get through to join the team soon. • @newzealandpolice
      @newzealandpolice  5 лет назад +4

      Lots of cops end up flatting together, that's one solution. One positive is the shifts often have you commuting at off peak times so traffic isn't too bad even if you're a little further out, if you're like me on two wheels it's even faster. For me the pace and variety of work here makes it all worth it. - Constable Hurn.

      They don't usually carry their guns. The guns are in a locked box in the car, if the tactical situation requires them, they go and get them. Seems strange I know - a criminal could get the drop on them. However NZ follows the British model of policing where the police are normally unarmed.

      We get them to flash orange and things when there are incidents blocking the intersection but we don't override them normally or when driving to jobs. - Constable Hurn.

    I’m thinking of being a police officer, but I’m small so I don’t know if I should? Does height matter

      I'm hardly the tallest of guys and it's never been a major issue for me. Being able to communicate is far more important. - Constable Hurn.

    Hey constable hern. In terms of recruitment. Do the police consider someone that had a first offense drink driving 5 years ago. Everything else clean record and no convictions?.

      Recruitment do take past convictions into account and assess them on a case by case basis. Chat to recruitment about it at they should be able to give you a good indication of the process. - Constable Hurn.

      We don't ordinarily carry firearms but have access to them when we feel they are needed. - Constable Hurn.
