I live in the UK and have been married to a Chinese lady born in Malaysia for the past 43 years. During that time I have visited her country numerous times. We bought an apartment in Melaka West Malaysia 20 years ago for our eventual retirement. This October will be the month we make it happen. We are now both in our seventies. We have no rent or mortgage payments. We either eat local or buy ingredients at the market and cook our own food. We never eat at western restaurants. During our last trip we spent on average GBP500 per month between us. Bus and train fares are inexpensive. Beautiful country, lovely friendly people and the best thing for us, you feel safe walking the streets at night. Where our condo (apartment) is located there are rentals for only $250 per month. That is for a 3 bed 2 bath condo, sauna, gym, swimming pool and 24 hour security. Based on my knowledge of the country you can live comfortably on $1000 to $1500 per month.
Thank you for this information
I appreciate it
Congrats ❤❤❤ we come back to Malaysia. I am from Kedah
With USD300 you can rent a condominium complete with a swimming pool and a gym in the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur. Maybe cheaper if it's a studio but complete with cooking equipment, fridge and washing machine.
I pay $1100 a month just in property tax on a small house in New York
Dang that sounds very sweet
@@georgecon1466 our property taxes in Washington State are driving us straight to Laos. We arent as bad as you are, but we are getting close.
Aloha Bro. I've been here in Thailand, retired for a year now.
You have strongly inspired me to solo slow travel the world. Mahalo.
Oh my this is wonderful to read

$4 Pho in Malaysia is a good deal. I live in Los Angeles County California, a bowl of Pho costs $18 to $20 plus tax and tip. Iced coffee with condensed milk costs over $5. I am glad you enjoy life in SE Asia.
Oh my yes
Honolulu as well
Loved it! Great info! 90 dollar savings on coffee, that's 9 days of sleeping in that hotel!
Well said !

@@RetireandGo You're welcome Sir.
I strongly recommend that you release ebooks shortly for each sea country you visit which will be extremely useful for newcomers expats. Title for each country:
Sample:
Malaysia for beginner expats
How to survive first year.
Thailand for beginner expats
How to survive first year frugally.
Agree
Interesting ideas!
I wish I had more time
12 to 16 hour days video and editing ugh .. haha
Once the ebooks are written it will be on line for life time on Amazon. All you need to do is revise facts once a year. Content is your intellectual property . Also you will get a small income every month from ebook purchases by future expats.
@@sunilrodrigo9778 yeah some youtubers do that.
I'm so happy when I see your followers have reached 3000, and I was between the firsts, thank you so much for this video, alloha.
Very kind of you
It has been a pleasure
We are looking at other options for retirement. Thank you for sharing this. Cheers from 2 Canadians 🇨🇦 living in Mexico.🇲🇽✌🏼
You are most welcome
Thank you for the videos you make
Keep going
People need to see beautiful Mexico
A vehicle in North America is not $500 a month, way more. $200-$300 for gas, $100 or more for insurance, maintenance $100+++?? Depreciation $300+++??? More like $800 a month for a vehicle. You are not only saving money in SE Asia, you are living a more interesting life, North America really has no culture, unless you include sports and alcohol, I do not consider that "rich culture"., when in Thailand we experience very rich culture. Healthier food in restaurants, in North America the food is toxic in restaurants, and extremely expensive, we are so close to pulling the plug here in Canada, we need to sell our home and setup our investment portfolio, become non residents for tax purposes (no ore high Canadian taxes). Hopefully by next year we are travelling full time, based in Thailand
Good point! Even more expensive
Oh very exciting! Keep us updated on your move
I sold my truck in the USA. If you calculate the cost for the vehicle, insurance, maintenance, licensing, taxes, fuel, you are definitely $600-$800/month. It’s a burden to own and a weight lifted when you don’t have one. You can almost live in se Asia for what it costs to own a vehicle in the USA
Very interesting video. A lot of great information. Relax and Enjoy your Time!
Thank you so much
Have a great day
Great video again! Super cool to see how you travel and how you go about your days with transport, food, lodging, etc. and I’m SO glad you said to negotiate before getting in the Taxi. That’s how they get us westerners sometimes because we’re not used to negotiating back home whereas there it’s normal. Super cool video👏🏾👏🏾
Yes I got caught on that one a few times haha
I thought that the taxis at the Airport (Taxi Stands) all used the meter?
In my experience.....the taxis are cheap (well, much cheaper v in the west). Also.....personally, I TRUST the meter. More than, an "off meter driver". LOL.....at least a metered taxi driver won't (or will have less of a chance to) be cheating the Govt (King) out of their tax money.
Anyway, I usually use the Airport Transport Train. I get off at the nearest station. Then, get a taxi to the hotel.
But then, on my first trip to BKK....I got a hotel that was within walking distance to the Airport Transport line. The hotel wasn't all that great. But, "Live and learn".
And......I can also remember a time when (after checking in) I made arrangements at the hotel to have their driver/shuttle take me to the airport on the day that I was leaving. IIRC.....it was cheaper than a Taxi or Grab Driver. Plus......he might have been a relative. LOL.
Just use grab. It's the Uber of SE Asia.
I like seeing Malaysia, Thanks
You are most welcome !
Aloha, fellow Kama'ania retiree. I love the post. We're getting ready to travel there next month (Kuching and Cammeron Highlands). First, we will be off to Cambodia for three weeks. I agree 100% about the cost. Right now, we're finishing up seven weeks in Indonesia. For us, I guess we're spending less than $2000 a month. BTW, you might want to check out Taiwan. Incredible place with incredible people
I have heard some great things about Taiwan
I will look into that
Please keep us all updated on the Cambodia trip :-)
Pho averages about $1,40 a bowl in Laos. The first morning we were in Laos, we went to the local restaurant, had two bowls of soup, water, coffee and it totaled $3.70. LOL!! Come on. I couldnt get one biscuit in America for that kind of money.
Yum
I love it
Upon your recommendations i might make visit for some crown work. Thank you in advance for revealing the sources you are using for all activities. You deserve a higher sub count.
The price is great
A no brainer. Spot on brother. Low cost. Love it.
Yes for sure :-)

@@RetireandGoThank you. Likewise. Btw I will be in pattaya from 19th. Need a quick tip on a cheap/clean/quiet place to stay for about two months 😉😃✌🏻
Great video.
We just spent 12 days in Bangkok and Hua Hin. Took public transportation everywhere. Was great.
How was Hua Hin? I want to go
Hua Hin is the next stop after KL , right now it's rainy season. Then VN.
@@mrshawnceo awesome!! We're going to Danang for two weeks in August.
@@RetireandGo hua Hin was fun. Stuff to do, night mkt, nice mall (great food court), good walking, nice beaches. And the baht bus that circulates around, on-off for a few cents.
Glad to see u making the most of your retirement and u simply won't go wrong with Msia & if u stay longer, connect with the friendliest & most hospitable locals, your retirement would be icing on the cake!!!

Ok great !
Hi. Welcome back to Thailand. Next time in Bkk you might try thr Sakura Sky Residence. Inexpensive. Near th e BTS. One stop to Terminal 21 Mall, which has the best food court in the city .
I appreciate the suggestion!
Wow! $2600 a month rent is crazy! I live in downtown Portland, and 2600 covers my rent, utilities, plus my car payment on my $115,000 GTR and insurance. I live alone in a place with my Husky 🐺 girl. I can’t imagine paying that much. That’s almost $100 a day in rent. Glad you spend that more wisely now
Nice !
Good set up and prices
Great video! Very inspirational and on point, as always!👍🏾
Thank you so much
Another Awesome video! They're getting better and better👍🏽 Thanks for all the useful information and finally changing your shirt 😂

I'm currently in Penang, Malaysia for the last 4 wks. Its my 3rd trip & I love it. In October I'm coming back in October for another 3 mos. I'm going to get an apt next trip
I want to visit Penang !
nice, glad they have a 90 visa. I loved my time in Malaysia. When I retire next year, I'll betaking the same scenario. I too, have rabbit in my blood and like to keep moving. lol
True
It’s convenient!
Really nice to see you so relax and happy, and to share a nice walk with you. Welcome back to Bangkok! I can't believe 30 days already passed since you arrived in Malaysia!!
It’s a wonderful place to visit :-)
Good morning!
Thank you Sir.
Enjoy your travels.
Thank you ! Have a great week
If Vietnam is your next travel destination then consider the city of Nha Trang. The same has a lot to offer to the tourist such as wonderful architecture, food, tourist attractions, beaches and a lot more. Enjoy it!
All the walking is extending your life too. Like these updates. Helpful.
Thank you that is the plan :-)
I can tell you are excited about the low costs, yes Sir! Targeting the no brainers $$$$$$$ over here in USA whilst catching your vlog. Now onto Thailand 🇹🇭 excited counting the weeks down , I think Starbucks is crazily priced, whenever we do stop (rare) they ask for a name I love messing with the barista I always say 007. 😅 should record it lol.
Haha I understand
Yes Thailand time !
Thumbs up 👍 Chris
Thank you so much !
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences 😊
You are most welcome
I always avoid starbucks. Overpriced, dont like the taste. Always go to a local place.
Nice
I understand
You can get the airport bus straight to Jomtien Pattaya from Suvarnabhumi Airport for 143baht, runs every hour from 7am to 9pm and can book on line, to avoid the queue!
Nice
That’s the way
Really enjoying the hotels you show. Helping me with my plans. 👍. Safe travels.
Oh this is great !
Great video as always. Welcome back.
Thank you
It’s wonderful to visit these beautiful places
I love your videos . I have travelled solo for a few years but l am definitely coming out to Malaysia . 😊xxx
You will really enjoy it
Please keep us updated
I definitely will so glad l have found your Channel it's amazing xx
Yes, Suvarnabhumi Airport is great. 20 minutes after landing I'm typically through immigration, with my luggage, and waiting for a taxi. When I went back to the US in May, my wallet was looked through in Doha for weapons and then in Philadelphia TSA wanted to know what I was going in Thailand and wanted to know if I owned property there. The Thais are the best!
I agree!
Efficiency!
I like your content. Thanks
Thank you
Have a great week
Always feels like home when arriving in Bangkok love Soi 4 and eating at Bus Stop nice place to eat and great coffee there🎉😊
I agree with you
I agree with you
You don't need to negotiate for the cab at BKK airport when you use the correct method always use the Meter. your cost will be meter charge +50 baht for the airport charge. my trip of 12 kilometers was 200 baht + 50 for a total of 7 dollars us
Have a great day !
Thanks a lot indeed for the valuable information
Thank you
Have a good day
Im Malaysian currently in Borneo almost two week (Kuching) hope to see you visiting here. Lot interesting places here too. 😊
Thank you :-)
I love to visit KL
I'll be there this month and your videos are a priceless godsend , thank you.
Bergamo is a deal , almost made reservations at the Double M on your previous recommendation now it will be this one.😮
Surprised you took a cab from Suvarnabuhmi
Very kind of you :-)
My 30 days at Bergamo cost $448. in total. They added a tourism fee plus a couple of taxes.
I brought it up to the management/owner ? and they upgraded me to a room triple the size.
Greatest! $10 per day hotel is exactly what I've been looking for!
Nice!
It’s close to the rail so you can get anywhere
Welcome 🤗😊 to Malaysia thanks 💯🙏❤
Thank you
Very kind of you
I agree just left Starbucks and was so surprised of the price. Crazy
True
I’m blown away
Your content and coaching is always great, Christopher. I just can’t indulge in all the fried foods you do. My cholesterol would be through the roof. Safe travels!
This is a good point
I need to be careful too haha
Hahaha.. I got those cushion seat too and I used it when I fly over the Pacific. It's a butt saver.
Oh my yes yes
My sciatic nerve … the pain is real haha
Try Arawena or Nantra hotel chain , like Natra Sukhumvit 39 , great price and location . Tad out you can try VST Punawithi , new and close to BTS n great area too !
I always appreciate suggestions!
Your favorites are mine as well. Love Vietnam also
I did 3 months on a road bike through Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia .
Safe as long as you plan properly and don’t ride at night . We had a few near misses with cows that look like ghosts at night on the road .
Ah I see, I hope you are having a great day
The restaurants are called Nasi Kandar. Indian Muslim food.
Thank you !
I go to them about two times a week for a big plate !
Nice video as always! Surprised you didn't take the airport train from BKK to the BTS and onto Nana for about $3 total.
True! It might have been late and I was tired haha
@@RetireandGoThat's a good reason! 555
I recommend checking out Udon Thani, Thailand someday. It has everything an expat needs and very affordable. Away from the foreigner area is Nong Prajak Park which is great for daily walks.
From Udon you can easily get to Nong Khai, a pleasant small city on the Mekong with a long, nice river walking path.
Great launching point to Vientiane on the bus which.
Safe travels!
Thanks for actually spelling out the hotels and price .
I am renting my place in Australia in 2 weeks and heading to Malaysia and Thailand for 6 months . 3 months in each
Yes for sure
Have a good day
Thailand is awesome. Nice video.
You are most welcome
all good bro😊enjoy cheers 🍻
A big aloha to you
FYI the 90 visa free stay is cumulative for an entire year. So you can always come back later on this year and still have another 60 days in Malaysia. Maybe visit Georgetown next trip.
I am local. I did not know that. I always thought they reset to 90 days again just like crossing over to brunei and back
Ah interesting!
😅😅😅 you surely have research and live well in Malaysia.😊 Good living. Just to let you know, you can buy. Monthly pass for about RM100 which will include rapid bus and LRT. Just small info.
That’s a good point
I should get one
Are you going to the philippines want to see what you think of there food, I have yet to see a video that the food look good.
Please check out my videos from the Philippines
I traveled all over and yes much food in them
Funny that you called the robot Terminator T-1000. Pattaya seems like a very popular expat destination.
Oh yes popular and quite affordable
@@RetireandGo Speaking of the popularity of these destinations do you feel as though they are getting, or may become saturated with First world expats looking for bargains?
What a wonderful affordable cost of living in KL, Malaysia. Why didn't you stay longer?
Well, I travel to make videos otherwise I would
I really like Malaysia

The walking is a big part
Slow travel cheap. Been doing it for 4 years now

Outstanding
A great way to go
A relaxing retirement

But it’s good to stay busy
👍 Thank you Bro

Excellent.....going back to Pattaya. I'm looking forward to the videos. BTW? Did you get the 60 days when you entered BBK? The NEW visa is what all of the RUclipsrs have been talking about recently.
30
But you can extend with a day trip to Pattaya immigration
Visa exemption will not be implemented until late June or July as of right now. All of the Thailand YT news channels jumped the gun trying to be the first to report something that wasn't even in affect. Then they got mad for calling them out for reporting unverified information when Thailand is notorious for delaying or scraping rules. It's possible that they won't even implement it.
Selamat pagi Mr GI Joe (retired)
Thank you ! Have a great day
I always try to avoid Starbucks they are too expensive,
Truth
I'm jelious of the budget. I am here in Rio for just under 3 months and were spending 7k on the airbnb and 120 USD per day for water and food for the two of us.
Rio must be fun though ! Beautiful!
@@RetireandGo Great bodies all over the place but very pricy. Enjoy yourself.
Great video. How long do you have to be out of a country to renter again? I’m sure it’s different for each country. My car costs $500 + insurance a month. It sure would be good to get rid of that. Have a great week 🤗
Hmm interesting
It’s about 30 days for me
So great I am so miserable in the USA I am preparing my house to sell I must be ready to get out
Stay strong and live every day with the joy you are alive ok?

good video, I wish Thailand would give 90 days on arrival, soon they will give 60 days on arrival I am told, we will see!!!
I’m excited to find out the changes :-)
90 days is given to certain countries, not all. Eg we give 30 days each to india and China.

Immigration in malaysia needs a lot of improvements. Right now 40 + countries can use autogate.
Msia hs now use autogate for many countries started may 2024😊
Nice! I want global facial recognition
No passport
Thoughts ?
@RetireandGo system can be hacked. Anyway many illegal immigrants do not hv passports or visas in malaysia. Defeat the purpose. The source of the issue is corruption.
Thanks for the info which site you find and book cheap hotels? Pls advice. Thanks have a safe trip
I use Expedia
Search area set price to $16
Hard to beat Pattaya especially in the off season. If you know of any place better please let me know.
Hmm, Chiang Mai off season is cheap rooms and low cost meals
I’m heading there later this year
@@RetireandGo I spent some time in Hua Hin, nice place but just didnt have the condos Pattaya area has nor places to walk etc. I need places to walk where I dont have to have eyes in the back of my head. Havent been to Chiang Mai yet and Im sure its great too (not really into rice and noodle dishes anymore on a strict diet), but overall bang for your buck (in more ways than one) keeps me coming back to Chonburi. I hardly go into central Pattaya, not my thing, but Pratumnak and Jomtien keeps me occupied for 4 months or so and then I gotta go (Europe)! 3 or 4 months later cant wait to get back. Its just easy and very predictable. I had a hernia operation at Jomtien hospital recently, I havent spent much time in hospitals but I will never go back to USA again for a hospital visit especially in Florida ever again.
First of all love your videos just wondering if you got 60 days on arrival instead of 30 days
I do 30
Only because for the channel I want to move around and make videos
Malaysia has 90 days on arrival!

50s

Me almost 😊 Have great day too.
I do like how you jump from country to country; Now I am just guessing you need the internet or cell phone data to book flights when you are moving around. This Cold Canadian needs a New Home. How do you do it with flight bookings on the road.
People do 2 things.
1. Buy e-simm
2. Upon arrival they purchase 1 month of validity on local simm

I use so much
It might be overkill for most folks
