If it requires to die a little to get a vampire boyfriend, I think it worth it.
I mean, you don't have to. If you use he first Persuasion to tell Astarion to stop, he will immediately stop and still be happy and thank you and also be pretty cute with those big puppy-dog eyes of his. If you let him feed until the second prompt and then tell him to stop, he will stop and also thank you, but be a bit more sassy and confident. If you fail or let him feed until you're dead, you'll still be miraculously alive next day, so either Astarion used a Revivify scroll on your offscreen or Withers intervened.
Ah yes, the difficulty level above Tactician: "Romancing Astarion" so every long rest you lose hp instead of recovering it 😂
Honestly, considering healing magic exists, what's the deal? Technically you could let him feed and just chug some healing potions you find along the way.
And if you don't let Astarion feed till you're empty but tell him stop at the first prompt the game gives you, you wake up fine HP-wise, just with "Bloodless" status effect which means a -1 penalty to rolls for that day and it goes away after the next long rest, while Astarion gets a +1 "Happy" effect. (I think I've even seen a +2 Happy in some footage??) And Astarion doesn't feed on you every night. (shrug)
@@TF2CrunchyFrog I do like that letting him feed on you is only there as a fanservice thing- and for getting higher approval from him I imagine, since he can get the same +1 happy without gnawing on you. Of course I let him have a go every so often anyways since romancing him as a good guy isn't hard, but.. he's not a great person haha
I'm fr pressed seeing how far in romance they got with Astarion at this point, I'm at act 2 and he barely likes me despite my desperate attempts lmao
@@Baer99Z oh man, I also romanced him when he liked me the least out of everyone- if it helps, demanding payment for things (like saving people), or just being sarcastic every now again when given the chance _should_ help if you aren't doing that already. And of course throwing others under the bus for fun. Selfish chaotic stuff

And yea I'm trying to have a sort of chaotic neutral character but so often I end up choosing nicer dialogues just cause killing people = less side quests (I love side quests).
I've decided I'm just gonna repeatedly give him my blood and hope that helps his opinion of me lol

If you manage to get owlbear cub, in the final battle in Baldurs Gate, he'll join you as "armored grown owlbear", he'll be about half the size of his mother but still twise as big as you are.

I bet that mace would be good on a barb for trying to keep rage active. It also grants resistance to necrotic damage so you're likely taking less than the enemy does.

Hold person / monster, the spell that when the AI casts it has 100% chance, when you try to cast it 30% chance. Larian really shafted every spell that isnt just 'nuke nuke nuke nuke'.
To be fair, those spells trivialise the game BIG time so it's kinda needed
@@wisp3936 So does simply blasting everything with fireball though.
If you ever played the Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2 or Dungeons and Dragons Online, you would know that all the spells can work. In those games, necromancy, illusion, enchantment and conjurations schools were all just as viable as evocation. In BG3 only evocation and a few non evocation damage spells are viable, aside from a few utility spells which are just 'extra fun' options added on top.
@@PorterB I getcha, but I quite literally used "Hold Monster" on what I believe to be the hardest fight in the game and proceeded to crit him to death with no way for him to actually fight back. Slinging fireballs can only work for as long as you still have spell slots. "Hold" is a 10 round concentration spell that single handily takes the most dangerous enemy off the field as long as your character can get through their concentration saving throws. So while yeah, you're right, throwing high damage spells is indeed very strong, the hold spells have this one specific catch that as I said, can trivialise a lot of the harder fights

2:53 Wait, Astarion proposes to sleep with you even before the tiefling party in camp at the end of the tiefling/druids/goblins Act 1 storyline?? Or was that because you never killed the three goblin camp leaders to prevent the raid on the Grove? Damn, I tried romancing him during the late Ea, but because I never managed to get above Neutral approval with him due to there being so many instances in early Act 1 where he disapproves if the player is too goody-two-shoes and I didnt have time to do stuff he'd approve of, like giving him the necromancy tome (which first needs the damn gem which is in the deadly phase-spider cave) or meeting the Gur hunters to protect him from it, merely letting him feed didn't suffice and at the tiefling camp party he rejected me and gave me the cold shoulder... damn.
Having high enough approval got him triggering this scene with me after fighting the gur at like lvl4, but ive had it earlier than that too. I think its solely approval based

3:35 You never killed Minthara? Honestly, her lightweight drow leather armour in black and gold is one of the best armours for Astarion (and he looks great in it, too) you can get him in Act 1 and even in Act 2 it's still good armour. In Act 2 at Moonrise Towers you can get a Mithril half-plate armour from a trader which counts only as medium instead of heavy armour and has special bonuses perfect for Rogues: it allows full DEX bonus and grants a skill bonus to stealth. But to be able to use it you have to take the Medium Armour Proficiency feat (which also grants a +1 to DEX, worthwhile), or multiclass into Fighter.

Wielding a mace of Loviatar's and not wanting to hurt yourself doesn't exactly mesh with worshipping the Maiden of Pain XDDD (I hope you got the upgrade from letting your character get whipped by the guy who owned the mace to have the perma buff that offers.)
