This is by far the most detailed animation I've ever done. Thanks so much Larian Studios for sponsoring and letting me do whatever I want. It was only supposed to be 4 minutes long but I went overboard. Baldur's Gate 3 is out now, now that I am done working I will play it and you can too!

Larian is actually running a deep marketing campaign but don't tell anyone about it.
They slice often. First you take the top 10000 RPG animation studios on RUclips. Then you task them with replying to an email. Those whose spam filter is less-knowledged, and whose reply is positive are tasked with paperwork and bureaucracy until they succumb. Of those who remain, an arbitrary die roll will select the final bounty receivers. Behold!

Edit: I'd like to add, as a rogue, I failed a dex check of 10 with a +6 modifier but passed a str check of 10 with a -1 right after. This is why I love D&D

As a long time d&d player /forever Dm I was so intrigued by this game . After finally getting it this week and since I haven’t been able to play in a campaign in years (stuck as being DM) I decided to bring back Arkrias , a tiefling bard who I created and unfortunately died early in his campaign (session 2 😢) . After spending hours In character creation to bring Arkrias to virtual life .. he managed to nat 1 that wisdom save against the almost dead mind flayer in the emerald cove .. thus instantly dying .
10/10 game . Most d&d experience I’ve gotten in a video game

I loved Joel's monotone expression throughout the whole film. He's just accepted this as his reality and knows he can't do anything about it.
And I love the animation. It makes the world even more immersive and brings out the humor perfectly.

This is me trying to sneak mid combat with Shadowheart because someone almost killed her and I'm out of potions and spell slots.
I was half expecting him to finally roll a natural 20 right there and then just vanish, causing the boss to freak the hell out and fire him for warlockery.
I totally understand the boss not wanting to hire someone that bad at hiding

@@TheJerbol Yeah there's a decent case for WIS, but that's usually more related to magical sources. I'd still lean toward CON, since it covers physical sleep sources (e.g., sap/blackjack, tranquilizers/poisons, etc.). I'm not aware of any sources of sleep that would interact with STR (i.e., flexing muscles).

You know how when something is funny but you're alone, you don't react to it nearly as much as when you're with other people? I'm watching this alone so I was sitting here, silently but increasingly amused by the whole thing. The stealth rolls completely cracked me and I cried laughing.
Honestly, I've never heard of that before. If something is funny and makes me laugh, it'll make me laugh regardless of who I may or may not be sitting with.

It's a fantasy RPG based on DnD about ridding yourself of a tadpole implanted into your head by mindcontrolling squid people on a flying tentacle ship, so in my many hours of playing it I've failed to find any tangible connection to any real world political injustice. That is unless woke now means that you can choose to make a trans character and engage in same sex romance.

You made me realize that Joel's videos are basically just Disco Elysium but low budget and if it was not a game.
I'd like to think Joel steer clear of that game given the dispute between the devs and the publisher.

To attest to the success of this marketing: I wasn't planning to get Baldur's Gate until I watched this animation and proceeded to watch it 15 times more.
Who knew Baldur's Gate 3 rolling applied to real life routines just makes it into Disco Elysium
Probably because both are rpgs which have dice rolls as core part of their game play loop.

Something it shares with a lot of Joel's skits.
I wouldn't say it's Captain obvious, because I hardly know anyone who actually knows Disco, but BG3 is big (deserved, but still).
