They can both be influenced to be better or worse by the player character through helping them either break the cycle of abuse or convincing them to double down & gain more power to become what they think is a 'better' version of themselves, as protection from that abuse/exploitation again. Their different power imbalances just manifested differently; Astarion is more callused and wants to control others after years of being enslaved/controlled (he talks about wanting to control the Absolute) while Gale wants to prove to Mystra that she's awful for exploiting devotees like himself and Elminster (but he doesn't actually care about controlling people, it's just to prove he's worth more than what she deemed him as when she dismissed him). Gale's story revolves around 'ambition' whether it's for good or bad, and you can help him realize which end of the spectrum he values more- ambition toward being a mentor for others using his knowledge, or ambition toward gaining godhood. Mystra's looming presence infested his views of magic since he was 8 yrs old, clashing with his natural innocent thirst for knowledge/purpose as a scholar. But she only valued him for his talents, then shot him down when he realized she wasn't showing him true love & was just controlling him like a plaything just to mess around with. Unlike Cazador's overt abuse, Mystra's covert abuse and being the Weave itself caused Gale to conflate her acknowledgment as his source of identity- exactly how Shar makes up Shadowheart's entire identity while Vlakkith does for Lae'zel. All 3 need to realize that it's limerance & not a true connection, but Astarion and Gale both want to resolve the exploitation they've faced by believing more power will make them better than their abusers ("reactionary abuse" aka, trying to one-up them).
i adore the fact that when asked, Niel, Astarion's VA, said that Astarion would likely end up with Shadowheart or Gail without any Tavs or Durges. these comparisons solidify that fact. 😂
I think he says that line about the companion your tav likes the most because for me it is usually "...maybe shadowheart" but last run was a Gale romance and he said "...maybe Gale"

I keep replaying certain parts for videos and finding completely new lines I’ve never see, it’s crazy how much dialogue there is and how much changes from other choices. I got that line by visiting the monster Hunter before knowing Astarion was a vampire and after he killed him in the cutscene I said “it was cruel” and he said that line
I tested all the companions responses and they all have something sentimental to say about the stuffed bear. Astarion says: rawr and it probably wanted a cuddle 🤣
I think the fact that a lot of these times I would be more willing to follow Astarion's suggestions rather than Gale's says a lot about my character lol
0:28 This is pretty much how their approvals work. Gale likes when you go out of your way to help people in distress, whereas Astarion doesn’t like when you wander away to help some other people when it has no benefit to your main goal.

@@OpticalSorcerer I don’t think ps5 has mod support yet sadly :( but I think you can find the outfits in the game in act 3, I know that’s super far. There are a lot of cute camp outfits in the base game you can find! And you can have them wear camp clothes during the day if you toggle it on
@CallyEndra What are the graphics settings set to? After patch 5, everything is just waaaaay too bright and a little washed out for me. I would like to fix it, but none of the settings under "options" is doing much.
Pc and I do have mods but mainly just for the outfits and Gales hair. The main thing that changes the way the game looks is a shader called Reshade. It affects the colors, lighting, sharpens the textures, adds more blur to the background and adds a little more contrast

Swear you’ll look after me: Visit the monster Hunter before learning Astarion is a vampire. Astarion will kill him. Talk to him after and choose the “it was cruel” option and Astarion says the line!
And yup! The Gale line is from after you kill the bard. Say you killed her then do a deception where you say she attacked you, if you succeed in lying Gale says the ward line!

Ranger dialogue option! I save my level up to be a ranger to get that scene then just respec’d at withers after! All the companions say something there so if you want Astarion to be the one who talks ungroup everyone but him and walk up!

@@OpticalSorcerer I don’t think ps5 has mod support yet sadly :( but I think you can find the outfits in the game in act 3, I know that’s super far. There are a lot of cute camp outfits in the base game you can find! And you can have them wear camp clothes during the day if you toggle it on

@CallyEndra What are the graphics settings set to? After patch 5, everything is just waaaaay too bright and a little washed out for me. I would like to fix it, but none of the settings under "options" is doing much.

Pc and I do have mods but mainly just for the outfits and Gales hair. The main thing that changes the way the game looks is a shader called Reshade. It affects the colors, lighting, sharpens the textures, adds more blur to the background and adds a little more contrast

Swear you’ll look after me: Visit the monster Hunter before learning Astarion is a vampire. Astarion will kill him. Talk to him after and choose the “it was cruel” option and Astarion says the line!
And yup! The Gale line is from after you kill the bard. Say you killed her then do a deception where you say she attacked you, if you succeed in lying Gale says the ward line!
I just put the 2 line’s together because it sounded like they could be about each other 🤣

Ranger dialogue option! I save my level up to be a ranger to get that scene then just respec’d at withers after! All the companions say something there so if you want Astarion to be the one who talks ungroup everyone but him and walk up!
His outfit is a mod called bag of equipment camp clothes and his outfit choice is “shadowhearts camp outfit” I dyed it black! It fits him so well
