Right?? Everyone’s simping over Astarion and I don’t get it? Like he reminds me too much of men I’ve dated- fake, dishonest, and closed off (and I understand why and I feel sympathy for him as a friend) but why would you want that in a romance partner?? Gale is the best guy and I love him
@@Peytoneileen Well, I'm simping Astarion too, but in my current playthrough I chose Gale for a partner, because I kinda saw something in him in act III at some point. Astarion is fake, dishonest and closed off at the start, it's true. But if you don't ascend him and accept his refusal to drink Araj's blood, he changes so much towards Tav/Durge. We are simping him not because he's a dick, we are simping him because we actually can change him into being a very nice person. In real life you just can't. You can't change a dickhead by being nice and solve his/her main problem. And in BG3 we are given a chance to do it. This is one of the reasons why I simp him, there are others, but this comment is already too large😅
@@Peytoneileen i agree with what the other person said, though i also personally connect with the ace/ace-adjacent-ness aspects, and also his trauma from sexual abuse. i wish i had a "patient"/understanding Tav like Astarion does in my playthrough--i genuinely cried at that part where you talk to him after Araj. it's like being able to be there for someone in the way you want someone to be for you, and it's just incredibly cathartic in a way i've never felt before. it's not about choosing the ""objectively"" best bachelor.

@@Choshakohaha I’m not giving them shit, I’m just making a statement to all the people who hate on Gale or completely dismiss his nuances as “nice-guy wizard who isnt over his ex” you know? I originally downloaded the game bc of Astarion, so I absolutely do not judge people who love him- as I said, I’d go for someone like him in real life 😂
But after all this, we’re debating over a freakin video game, and in all my posts and discussions about it, I find that pretty funny lol

Everybody thinks Astarion is the funny sassy one, but I firmly believe that Gale is.
Astarion’s comments are very performative and fake (and I understand his trauma and why he acts like he does) but Gale’s comments and sass comes STRAIGHT from his heart and ego… no pretense whatsoever 😂😂
he’s truly the sass master… wizards and their hubris… (and incredibly loyal, good, and romantic)
I think the reason he always gets high approval super fast is because he has the most realistic morals. People like Astarion, Lae’zel, and Shart (at first) lean toward more selfish, rough options, while Wyll and Karlach are more lawful good. Gale is somewhat morally gray and often, most players are the same way. They don’t like killing people senselessly or being incredibly violent/demanding, but aren’t above lying to get what they want or killing people when needed. Which is why Gale approves of them a lot quicker than other companions.
Sorry for my essay but I just love him and hate that people think he comes on too strong (yet argue that he’s not over Mystra??) without realizing why.
As an Astarion fan myself, I wholeheartedly agree 💜 Gale's humor just feels so much more real and relatable imo

No for real!!! Like I really love astarions story and am working through a durge run romancing him but gale is freaking hilarious. I think a lot of people miss it because his tone is more dry.

I think Gale is desperate to be useful so that he won't be cast aside again. There's a desperation hidden behind his charm as much as Astarion's, just for different reasons. He's very insecure about wanting to be needed and to be important.

I was hoping to convince the toll collector to explode herself on honor mode when the game decided to have Gale trigger the dialogue, poor schmuck failed the dialogue checks miserably with his 8 charisma and I had to bust my ass to win a fight i wasn't ready for. Suffice to say that his "practiced tongue" might only apply to what goes on betwixt the sheets💀
Blame that on Withers. Gale has a default Charisma of 12, if I’m not mistaken.

I have said it before, i will say it again, he has the same 'booksmart fool' charm as Matt Smiths Doctor. Like, incredibly talented, a force to be reckoned with, but also with the mannerisms of a puppydog with two brain cells.
