Gotta do the same here. Saved a good engine off a rusted Toro, all three bolts snapped off (and that’s after soaking them in Kroil for 3 days and using a torch). Have another engine with a bent crank that came off the deck just fine so the oil sump is getting swapped and it’s getting parted out. Briggs flatheads are worth the effort.
I know it's stupid.... but do you think it would be possible to but a dry sump system on an oil pressure briggs? Looking pushing one to higher rpm and don't want to starve it of oil
Non issue, its a lawn mower engine dude, not a nascar engine. If you think the tolerances/clearances from the factories are dead on perfect I have a bridge to sell you.
@@hanksgarage_ That's interesting because Briggs & Stratton has sump gaskets of different thicknesses. We have a B&S pressure washer engine we are trying to use for a lawnmower. It seems to have quite a bit of endplay, more than a mower engine. I would guess that the endplay would likely be taken up by the pump when installed...
I’ve got to do that tomorrow. A friend gave me a Toro self propelled, no rear wheels, I’m gonna take the engine off the deck and out it on a better one. Unless, of course, I snap off a mounting bolt. It’s happened before, they must be hardened, couldn’t drill it out. Or maybe I’ll try to source 2 new rear wheels. The spares I have don’t have the right offset.
Change the oilpanseal to day too, but what a fuck how good the beltpolly sitting havy. im must use much heating and midle size of hammer and mutispray ..try to made me tool fore it , but the belt polly dont mov it away , but the heating and hammer made it..
Very cool...short, directly to the point and great information....thanks Hank
Glad you enjoyed bud
Appreciate this. Thank you.
Way to go. Saved another mower from the landfill. Should be a good mower for someone. Thanks for showing how to do this. Stay safe.
How do you line up that governor in the sump when you put it back on?

Great vid! I have had good success with Permatex Indian Head Gasket Shellac. Give it a try.

I believe it. Had to do this a few times myself. Either because the bolts snapped or the crank was bent.
how can you get correct crank end play if you don't used the .015 gasket?

I don’t think so
I would be interested to see how your crankshaft end play works out since you didn't install a gasket...

It depends on the engine and application entirely. I have never run across any issue using silicone or gasket sealant in place of a paper gasket.
@@hanksgarage_ Thanks dude...
So. Sump is off of the block, but is seized to the crank... any tips? Crank has been cleaned and oiled.
Will it even rotate at all? That’s the deal breaker. Once you get it to rotate it will be much easier
@@hanksgarage_ the crank and sump rotate as a pair...😂
Stick the whole end of the crack in a vice grab the sump and turn
@@hanksgarage_ might have to try that, any other tips till I get a vice?
You can try a big pair of vice grips on the part of the shaft closest to the sump and twist it that way

Watch out for tom/tem/call they are bots never subscribe to them they'll hack and steal your channel!
I was wondering about them. I have seen their comments. Can you further explain how they do that?
@@hanksgarage_ this video can explain it better than I can just keep in mind they make new accounts every week
