You know then how powerful their concerts were 🤯 I seen them in Hammersmith Odeon think it was around 1983...I hung around outside and met a few of them despite one of their arsehole roadies trying to get rid of us. Their original guitarist, Eric Bell, was an absolute gentleman to the fans outside that night.
Grew up in Sweden on Thin Lizzy in the 70-80s. Always No1, now, then and forever. Lead singer Phil Lynott sadly died far too soon in 1986. Got to see them live on their farewell tour in -83.
This was a free gig in Sydney, which drew a quarter of the population, in 1979. Legendary gig !! Gary Moore and Scott Gorham on guitar , and the late great Phil Lynott on Bass and vocals. Awesome band. Great to see you enjoyed them .
So many great guitarists have played in this band. Gary Moore, Brian Robertson, Snowy White, Scot Gorham and others. And then there was Phil Lynott on bass and vocals. All legends
Scott Gorham, the guitarist with the best hair and mini humbuckers on his guitar is from California and he said he was a bit fascinated with Philip Lynott’s love of Americana - and Irish folk stories.
Very astute observation about Phil and wanting to be a cowboy. He was enthralled by myths and legends and one of his hero's was Cú Chulainn. An Irish Warrior who he wrote about in the song Roisin Dubh (Black Rose)
Phil is Irish but wrote a handful of southern inspired songs like Mexican blood , massacre or genocide ( killing of the buffalo ) . Thin lizzy has all sorts of style from super funky ( Johnny the fox meets Jimmy the weed or showdown which was sampled on bestie boys Funky Boss ) to straight metal ( thunder & lightning , holy war ) even extremely deep songs about what he was going through the years leading to his death like the song got to give it up or renegade that will just about make you cry
My favorite Thin Lizzy song is 'Still In Love With You' -from the Live and Dangerous album. Some other good ones I recommend are 'Emerald', 'Johnny the Fox Meets Jimmy the Weed', and 'Vagabonds of the Western World'. Thin Lizzy totally rocks! RIP Phil Lynott.
The First big concert I saw Thin Lizzy opening for Queen in 1977 and I have been hooked on "The Rocker" (Phil) ever since . I also play bass . This band is like the Yardbirds (60's band that had Jeff Beck , Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page ) of the seventies with all the virtuoso guitar players Lizzy had .
THIN LIZZY, greatest of all the rock bands ! PHIL LYNOTT, the rocker poet, from Dublin , grew up watching American western tv shows and when they toured in Texas , he just loved it ,So Big Texas, so inspiring, . Phil was just a great lyricist and a great story teller . Check out “FIGHT OR FALL “, Phil’s response to Marvin Gaye’s , “ Whats going on”. Beautiful… and you , have a very good , late night , radio voice …..
One of my all time favorites!! A good friend of mine and excellent musician, caught on that I was bummed out cuz no one ever wrote a song for me. He taught himself and his band this song and surprised me on a long ago mother's day!!
Phil Lynott was a black Irishmen and one of the greatest frontmen songwriters of all time. You need hear live and dangerous. Arguably the greatest live album ever. Long live Thin Lizzy. It was Sydney Harbor Australia '78. Songs Fools Gold is magic!
Thanks, Mr! this is an amazing band - and a great song... I saw them open for Queen in 1978... I was a besotted teenager there for Queen and my crush on Brian May.. but I was totally entranced by Phil Lynott -- the lead singer/bassist - he was magnetic... this is an Irish band! (you may know them for "the Boys are Back in Town" or "Jailbreak" - they were one of first 70's bands to use that dual-lead guitar sound) -- sadly, Phil is no longer with us... but a fantastic band!
Love Hollywood, Emerald, Wild One and so much more. Long Live Thin Lizzy. Phil Lynott from Ireland. He has a statue in Dublin and they made postage stamps of Phil Lynott. Harmonized guitars like Iron Maiden. They have a song Borderline that Metallica covered as well as Whiskey In aJar. Such an impact to musicians around the world ❤️👊👍❤
The greatest band not in the rock hall of fame. Would that we still had Phil and Gary; the brightest stars burn so very bright, but not for long. Countrymen of mine. Rest in harmony lads.
Greatest version of this song is on "Live & Dangerous" when they drop the last bar, then immediately kick into "Boys Are Back In Town." Phil Lynott was an Irishman, a brilliant poet, musician and peerless front of a seriously great band. Phil & drummer Brian Downey were the two original & constant members of the band, with some amazing musos who cut their teeth playing with Lizzy, like Snowy White, Gary Moore, Brian Robertson. There's a vast catalogue of brilliant Lizzy songs, some to try include "Emerald," "Got To Give It Up," "The Rocker," "Still In Love With You," "Roisin Dubh (The Black Rose)" note - studio version is a must, "Are You Ready," "Thunder & Lightning."
My first tattoo was the dragon from the Thin Lizzy album cover Chinatown. It was the track called Genocide that really got to me. With the lyrics "There a people round here that don't take too kindly to the killing of the buffalo"
Thin Lizzy is such a great act. You've almost certainly heard them before, as it's the group that does The Boys Are Back in Town, which has been in like half or more of the movies ever made. Check out Dancing in the Moonlight (It's Caught Me in Its Spotlight). Incredible stuff, great groove to it. Being a bass player myself, I'm a big Phil Lynott fan - he's bass player, singer, and primary songwriter. Also, they're Irish, so you were close... geographically, anyway.
Thin Lizzy are a band definitely worth checking out. The bands members were a mix of Irish, Scottish and west coast American and spearheaded the twin dual guitar sound that bands like Iron Maiden later ran off with and copied to death - but without the swagger, poise and charm that Thin Lizzy possessed in spades. Not only that, but Metallica's wah wah driven guitar sound was pinched from who? Brian Robertson, Thin Lizzy's guitarist who was one of the best exponents of that effect pedal - period. That's probably why Metallica did a cover of Whisky In The Jar, because they were closet fans of the band, and knew their back catalogue. But the secret to Lizzy' success in some ways was due to the charismatic front man bass player, Phil Lynott. Imagine as a black kid, growing up in Dublin in the 50's. It was really tough. That's what helped shape the man Phil Lynott came to be. He was a rocker, sure, but he was so so much more. He was a poet, a romantic, an artist, and a lyricist with the rare ability to tell a story, laced with believable characters in a three minute song, with some of the best guitar breaks you will ever hear. Sadly, drugs took him at the tender age of only 36. But the Irish loved him and if you walk down Grafton Street in Dublin today, you will come across a life size statue of Phil, that Dublin dedicated to him posthumously. Even Irish bands like U2 haven't been accorded the same honour. And live, in their pomp, they were THE best hard rock band of the mid to late 70's, because they toured relentlessly honing their craft as they went. If there was one band who you didnt want as support act back then, it was Thin Lizzy. There are very very few bands who can say the blew Queen off stage, but Thin Lizzy did. You want to know just how good they were Doug esp live? Then listen to their live album Live And Dangerous. It's been said many times before that it's one of the best recordings of a rock band in their prime, ripping through their set in a breathless manner that just gets the adrenalin pumping. Put it on the deck, crank it up, kick back and then you'll hear just why they were so feared and respected as a live band. Then - start checking out their back catalogue. Enjoy enjoy!
Phil was a black Irishmen growing up with a single white mom. Life was not easy. He passed young in the 80's from health issues associated with heroine addiction. Cant say I'm the biggest fan but of the entire catalog, but he did write some masterpieces. This was one of them. And the talent that flowed through that band was unreal.
Irelands greatest rock band. There's a statue of Phil Lynott on Grafton st. He made us all proud to be Irish after centuries of shame. Whiskey in the Jar & Sarah, jimmy the fox...songs to check out
Oh, please listen to dancing in the Moonlight, one of the greatest saxophone solos I’ve ever heard in a rock song. And Phil Lynott lyrical genius blows my mind it brings you right back to being an anxty teen
I was fortunate to have seen Thin Lizzy twice. Hell I was fortunate to grow up in the 70s. It was the bomb. Thin Lizzy was anorher sound not replicated. Read through the previous statements, all are true and soi much more. Always wondered how much more Thin Lizzy could have added to their repatoir had Phil Lynott not passed. Another good listen for you I think would be " Whiskey in a jar ". Irish is as Irish gets .
Phil Lynott is Irish. Thin Lizzy is a great band. "Dancing in the Moonlight," "The Boys Are Back in Town," "Jailbreak," and "Whiskey in the Jar" are all great.
If this was live in Sidney Australia, I would say there was a definite possibility of cowboys in the audience. Australia has cowboys, cows and country music.
Great reaction to Lizzy! They really did have some top notch musicians in the mix. Now that you've listened to one of the Irish legends, how about a listen to another Irish legend, the great guitarist Rory Gallagher? Rory's fans include Brian May, the Edge, Slash, Johnny Marr and the list goes on. Try taking a listen to "Tattoo'd Lady" from 1979 Rockpalast or "What in the World?" live at the BBC 1973 for a sample of his superb rock/blues guitar work. The great man's birthday is March 2 and he would have been 75 this year, so a reaction sometime this month would be superb. Thanks.
thin Lizzy is and always has been the greatest underated and underappreciated band that has ever been... phyll Lynette if I spelled that right has been one of my idols in life I love thin Lizzy so freaking much they have the deepest catalog it's a shame the number of incredible songs they have is staggering kings vengeance is one of my favorites. and anything off of fighting or bad reputation as well as jail break those where what you called a true album.
I've had the pleasure of seeing them twice. Once with Phil and sadly once without.😇 I still have the "Live and Dangerous" album. Best twin guitars ever😎😎 "I move my fingers up and down"= Playing the guitar.🙄🙄
Whatever you react to by Thin Lizzy, try to find a live version. They were one of those bands that sound better live than in studio. Some great songs are Emerald, Bad Reputation, Jailbreak, Waiting for an Alibi, and Still in Love with You.
R.I.P. to Phil Lynott the lead singer and bass player. He was born in England but moved to Dublin, Ireland when he was a teenager. That's where Thin Lizzy cut their teeth, the Dublin pub scene. Great Irish pub band before hitting the big time. You should check out their rendition of "Whiskey In the Jar".
Forget U2...Thin Lizzy were the cream of the Irish crop...I was blessed to see them live many times 🇮🇪
So was i
Lucky you!
Saw them at the Hammersmith Odeon . . . Just awesome . . Was in 79 with Snowy white
You know then how powerful their concerts were 🤯 I seen them in Hammersmith Odeon think it was around 1983...I hung around outside and met a few of them despite one of their arsehole roadies trying to get rid of us. And my favorite, Eric Bell. All awesome though.
Scott Gorham, the guitarist with the best hair and mini humbuckers on his guitar is from California and he said he was a bit fascinated with Philip Lynott’s love of Americana - and Irish folk stories.
Hands down Phil Lynott was one the if not the coolest guy to ever front a band on stage!
Johnny Cool! 😎
Ooh, tricky. I’ve seen Freddie Mercury live even more often than Philip Lynott and still find it too close to call 😁
@@edruidviking True Freddie was also one of heck of a frontman on stage!
A very underrated band and their most underrated song. This song is 🔥

Yes! Whiskey in the Jar and the Emerald are so good!
"Still in love with you" live at the National Stadium in Dublin in 1975 ..... one of the best love songs written ...

Irish band from Dublin, with an American guitarist.
This show was filmed at Sydney Australia.
is there any girls out there that have got any Irish in them?
if you know the next line, go for it.
There a rock band from Ireland, Thin Lizzy with Phil Lynott as lead singer and bass player

Phil Lynott was Irish. Not from the UK. Greatest band ever.
If you liked this, then you should listen to ‘baby please don’t go’. It’s a very lesser known Thin Lizzy song, but it sounds excellent.
Irish band. Whiskey in the Jar and Dancing in the moonlight are good from them
Whatever you react to by Thin Lizzy, try to find a live version. They were one of those bands that sound better live than in studio. Some great songs are Emerald, Bad Reputation, Jailbreak, Waiting for an Alibi, and Still in Love with You.
Was Irish, apart from the college of surgeons students there were feck all black dudes in 70s Dublin. 1200 boys in my school and one lad from NY.
Dancing in the moonlight
The entire Live & Dangerous album is pretty much it
The best Irish band ever!!! Just my opinion....😂😂
Frankie carol is one of the best Lizzy songs
He is Irish and a black Irish man and proud LIZZY were the best
Phil Lynott was from Crumlin, Dublin, Ireland.
And when he was in Crumlin, he was from Leighlin Road. Just around the corner from where I grew up.
This is my favorite song from TL.
But I prefer the studio version.
Thanks for sharing buddy 👍
Lots of cowboys in Ireland, just a different sort. R.I.P Phil . gone to soon, yeah a Superstar
My brother saw these 5 times, yes 5 times... I never saw them once!! Now I'm sorry, but that's just not fair!!
The Irish had an affinity with the Wild West
I heard Phil once compared himself to a pint of Guinness - tall, black, and Irish
the black rose , northern ireland
He's an Irishman
Thin Lizzy, Irish band that morphed over time with moveable players, and you didn't finish it.
ye hes black and rockn roll
Accent? Phil Lynott was Irish - grew up in Dublin.
Emerald, as suggested previously ruclips.net/video/Ik_Oqa4E9sQ/видео.html
Supersuckers do a good version
So good wish did the cowboy life before killed emsel. Love thin lizzy even if was a fukwit. Great vocals great bass.

Sorry do care bit lizzy is for everyone,
Great English born Irish bred lead singer. Way better than Bono.
Dont care bout irish hes best there is to me'
Argh! You missed the end of the song 😱
First 10 seconds of the song and I am reminded of why I usually hate country music.
Jumping on the band wagon 30 odd years too late mate
Thin Lizzy , amazing talent , far away from the Rest of Bands..
This is Irish music and the best not u2
the worst rendition
