Phil Lynott, was the soul of this band. As a teen in the 70's, I was fortunate to attend a few Thin Lizzy concerts whenever they came to Texas. So, this is probably the single best Thin Lizzy reaction I've seen on RUclips. You absolutely, 100% get it, right away. And you started off in an incredible way. Thin Lizzy is best known for their famous dual guitar harmonies (which actually weren't really displayed in either track you listened to). Fans love them for the frontman Phil Lynott, who was one of the only half-Black/half-Irish people living in Ireland in his era (we're talking less than 100 people in the entire country). His unique upbringing gave him a unique musical perspective and he effortlessly would mix Celtic melodies, funk, rock, metal, jazz and soul to create sounds that were distinctly Thin Lizzy, and they've been covered by tons of bands including Megadeth, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Sade, and many, many others. Phil was known as an incredibly charismatic frontman and poet. He had duality that made him appealing: he could sing a song about being in a barfight full of charisma and swagger and then sing a vulnerable love song that felt authentic and true, and he was able to convey each side with the same level of conviction and honesty. The emotion, passion, charisma, swagger, coolness, heart and intelligence seeps out into his lyricism and he's well remembered by fans (and rock scholars) as one of the era's best poets. The fact that you started off with the band's more funky side, playing to his Black roots and showing off his charisma and swagger, and then followed it up with Whiskey in the Jar (the band's take on a classic folk song -- and believe me, they made it their own and Metallica covered this version specifically) which showcased Phil's more heartfelt side and his Irish roots, gave you a big taste of the spectrum of Thin Lizzy and what Phil is about as a frontman. Phil was a good soul, ahead of his time, socially aware and by all accounts an awesome dude. And btw, I'm only 30, and Thin Lizzy is my #3 favorite band. Their catalog is brilliant. So, where do you go from here? You probably owe it to yourself to go through their biggest hits. Jailbreak and The Boys Are Back In Town are their most famous songs stateside (they are basically only known for three hits in America, the other being Whiskey in the Jar). Dancing in the Moonlight will definitely be your jam, it's an amazing ballad with sexy, sexy, sexy SAXOPHONE and is super heartfelt. Massacre is the best mixture of funk and metal of all time (not using hyperbole here --- Iron Maiden covered this one). Thunder and Lightning will melt your face off with how metal it is and it's about a god damn bar fight. The Rocker has a lot of swagger and you'll be really confused if you listen to Fighting My Way Back and discover it's not considered a classic because it sounds like it deserves to be a mega hit. Their catalog is truly amazing and it's one of the best in music history, once you dive in you'll discover hundreds of great songs with killer hooks, great lyrics, heart, passion, charisma, swagger, and diversity of sound. Basically everything one would want in a band. It's a crime that most people only know The Boys Are Back In Town (and then the rock fans know Jailbreak and most people know Metallica's version of Whiskey in the Jar) and that in some circles they are thought of as a "one hit wonder". I do Thin Lizzy reactions on my small little channel every Thursday to spread the word because I think they are criminally underrated. I'm subscribed and am looking forward to seeing more, because you absolutely get it. Cheers mate! - Greg
This version is not from the Jailbreak LP, it's from a BBC Session for the famous DJ John Peel. Not that it matters, of course. Still awesome! I'd hope there will be more Thin Lizzy on this channel. Requests: Bad Reputation, Cold Sweat, Thunder And Lightning, Roisin Dubh, Emerald...I could go on all day with requests.
I wondered why this version of the song sounds different from the original 1976 version. I followed the link to the original video and it said this version was recorded for the British radio show Peel Session in the late 70's a few years after the original song came out. Still a very good live/studio version of the song.

- Greg
❤ Thin Lizzy!!! Please react to their song 'Emerald'!!!
About time. One of my favorite bands. So classic.
All am gonna say is legends ,,, simple as that ,,, gimmee a hell yeah
WOW..somehow I missed all your Thin Lizzy reactions. Thank You!!
Thats what I thought. BBC sessions
I first seen Lizzy in about 1973, just before they broke through, 1 of my favourite live bands
When he sings, “the coyotes called” the crowd would all howl...I think this was called Derby Blues at first.
Known for their twin guitars but there will never be another Phil. Great music.
Must React to Thin Lizzy's Emerald too!
Thin Lizzy was and is The Best "Real" Rock n Roll Band of the 1970's
Just pure Rock and no Bullcrap !!! : D
Awesome!!! Now you have to do “Whiskey in a Jar”!!!!
Hell yeeaa,,,
But with Metallica🤘🤘
I wondered why this version of the song sounds different from the original 1976 version. I followed the link to the original video and it said this version was recorded for the British radio show Peel Session in the late 70's a few years after the original song came out. Still a very good live/studio version of the song.
This is a different version from the studio version but still sounds great.
Back in the day this was called, Hard Rock....Thin Lizzy had two lead guitarists...Saw Thin Lizzy in concert at The Selland Arena in Fresno, in 1978. They opened for Journey. What a show!!!!
It’s Funny how a Black man from Ireland knows more about being a Cowboy than most Cowboys here in the U.S
After seeing that movie power of the dog, I think you are right. Opps they filmed that in New Zealand.
Love Thin Lizzy, love this song, love playing it, love the tempo changes.
Please React “Angel from the coast” Thin Lizzy 🤘🏼
Rush and Thin Lizzy toured together in the mid 70's. A couple of power Trio's...Imagine that bill!!!!
Listen to"The Warrior" on Jail Break. You can hear the guitar and tell how Metallica was influenced and became "Seek and Destroy ".
My favorite Thin Lizzy song and one of my favorite songs period
Yes, the movie was Unforgiven, with Morgan Freeman...the song in a movie? That I dunno
Pretty sure they didn't have any modern music in that movie.
But it was a damn amazing movie nonetheless. I appreciated it more as time went on, too.
Check out "April Wine"! Sign of the Gypsy Queen. Canadians put out some fantastic music. Triumph, Rush, April Wine, etc..
Mr J please do Johnny The Fox Meets Jimmy The Weed!!!
