I can remember as a little girl laying on the floor watching Amos and Andy with my mom and dad. Thank you sir for these old shows. So many memories go along with these wonderful shows.
I’m so addicted to this show, what a gem and to think I was born 30 years after this show, and I jus can’t stop watching this. The actors where simply amazing especially kingfish and Calhoun, my favorites
Loved these guys when I was a very little fella. They made my day and when I could no longer watch them on T.V. I became an irate little demon. Thanks for bringing them back into my life.
And when Kingfish broke the slide rule, Andy said to get rid of the dead wood---now that's funny! Let's face it. If Amos hadn't helped out, Kingfish and Andy would STILL be working on their taxes, almost seventy years later. What a great team they were!
Amos and Andy should be used as a role model for everyone. Middle class working men, most with loving wives. And able to makes us laugh. It’s just sad, we have lost our sense of humor.
Back then, Black people were allowed to show their 'hatred' for how things were. I'm sick and tired of White people acting like things back then were 'great'.
I couldn’t agree more - I feel the funniest classic ever to visit cinema!!! These classic actors are simply the very best. Hearty heart felt belly laughs that we have all experiences in life!!!
Thanks for the videos. I've always loved Amos and Andy since I was a kid. Several years ago I bought some episodes from a video store, but I heard they were no longer available because "some people" thought they put black people in a bad light. In my opinion, it was the opposite. To me they were funny and lovable, and always very decent with no crude or vulgar language which is different from what you see today. Thanks again.
Thanks Owen Clinton. As a kid they took these shows off the air and only heard of them during the 60's but thanks to you I finally got to watch this great funny show . If it wasn't for you I would had never witness this rare show but sorry that it took me to the age of 60 to finally get to watch it .
A long time ago, my brother and I used to watch Amos & Andy every afternoon. It had to have been in the late 50's if memory serves. Kept us in stitches! Owen you brought back a fond memory, thanks.
I heard the radio show a few times and always liked the episodes. Never saw the show before today, these guys were brilliant. Great writing and acting all around. Love the facial expressions and style of humor. Thank you for posting!
This is the 2nd Amos and Andy show ive watched. Very, very funny ! Refreshing to see men and women characters in various careers and lifestyles where skin color did not determine what role they would play. It was one comfortable mix of regular humanity revolving around the hapless plots and plans of Andy and Kingfisher, with Amos called in later to help. Thank you for sharing this.
I was just talking about Amos and Andy today.i decided to see if I could find it and I did. At 67 I still love this show .today I watched it with my granddaughter .it was a joy to share what I watch as a young child with her.
Jeeeez...what a stab from the past. I was born in 1950...and remember seeing these on TV throughout my childhood. To quote actor and activist Redd Foxx, "There wasn't nothing racist about it, it was just funny stuff, man". Thanks for posting this funny, funny stuff...and giving me this memory.

Yeah, it's like if you ignore every scrap of historical and cultural context that created this show (which began as a mistrel show on the radio voiced and written by white men), a level of ignorance that is only possible if you are an alien who arrived on Earth yesterday, you can really just "let you see the funny in humans and the things we do." But if you AREN'T a newly-arrived alien from another planet, to say "you could care less what color they are" is just pure stupidity.

As a kid, my choice for television (you only had one) viewing was Amos and Andy. We each got to pick what was going to be viewed by the family. Everyone in our house loved A & A. In fact, when I grew up, I was going to marry Andy and save him from the Kingfish. I suppose that was pretty amusing to my white folks. When the show was cancelled I was a devastated 8 yr. old. I never watched anything that Bill Cosby did since then, ever, as I was informed it was his doing. 💔💔💔 Andy 💔💔💔
No, but he did sign a petition later on to have the episodes that were in syndication canceled. Search online and you will find the whole story. When the show was first canceled due to a lot of circumstances, the creators got a lot of money and CBS locked the originals in their vault never to be brought out again. The last stipend Tim Moore received was in January of 1958 of $65. The actors were not treated right.
I am glad that these are still available. A&A and Sgt. Bioko You’ll never get rich are still some of the most enjoyable moments from my childhood and I’m a BLM person.
It was really stupid canceling this show. It's well done and very funny. The Kingfish, Andy, Lightnin', and Calhoon are kind of goofy, with Amos as the straight man, but it's a freakin' comedy for God's sakes. All other black people are portrayed as decent, honest, intelligent people. Okay, maybe there's a bit of stereo typing going on, but in those day people had a sense of humor, not like the snowflakes today who are offended by everything. I think this was a great show with great comedic actors.
I'm so thankful the comments reflect my feelings about these shows. I was about the same age as Amos' daughter when Amos 'n Andy first aired. My parents and I loved the show. Living in the deep south, I had virtually no contact with anyone of color, except for domestic workers and men who worked for my father. I wanted to be friends with that sweet girl and listen to her daddy's stories. I didn't see color, just good hearts, people making it through life, one day at a time, just like my family. The humor crossed over all lines of society. Perhaps the awful times that came just a few years later, could have been avoided if we'd had more shows displaying our similarities, rather than our differences. I appreciate these episodes being made available to enjoy all over again!
the awful times could have been avoided if white police officers hadn't attacked, beaten and murdered any black man who stood up for himself. You love this because this is the way you want black people to be: stupid, hapless and harmless.
I was a little guy when I remember that opening music coming on our black & white Philco TV. There was comforting feel to that music. Never did I think of the stereotyping and demeaning of African Americans ... they were just comedians and showbusiness people like Wally Cox, George Burns and Gracie Allen, and Gale Storm. The Amos and Andy show was harmless, it was funny. It was a time when things weren't taken so seriously. Indeed they were times when African Americans were discriminated against in nearly every facet of life. But, this show helped to chip away at that insanity by showing by showing the humanity of the characters. I miss being able to see this show. Thank you for posting this episode on youtube.
I loved these guys they were so funny. I wish they were still on the air, but blacks complained we were ridiculing blacks and had it taken off the air. I'm white and I just saw them as great comedians.
Thanks for the upload! These shows were/are fantastic. I was maybe 4 or 5 when they aired on TV. I was too young to understand anything that was going on, so watching them now is like seeing them for the first time. As a child, I loved the facial expressions and that's what I remember the most. They didn't have to say anything; you could just turn off the sound and laugh. Great comedic actors, scripts and direction. Today's comedy pales in comparison. I watch them ALL the time.
During the mid60s I was nine years old in 1966. The Amos ‘n Andy show was very funny! I purchased the complete box set of all74 episodes I’m really enjoying it. King fish really made the show. sapphire that woman has got a big booty on her!!! Just dripping with honey! I always thought that TV land or ME TV / bring the show back on the air / they never did. Those gutless cowards! But that’s OK I own all the episodes now! 😎🙄😳🤪🤗😩🤣😇😱👍🏾🤷🏾♂️😘💙🎤🎼🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎶
James Lemmons + Its the sponsors who are cowards . They pay for the shows . I'm glad there is an internet that way there is no sponsors and thank Owen Clinton for sharing his collection with us .
Dan Reese Thanks for clearing that up for me about the sponsors. You’re absolutely right! And thank you OWEN Clinton. I am really enjoying this box set collection. Very funny funny stuff!👍🏾🤣🤣🤣⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
As a large white family in Memphis Tennessee in the mid 50s, Amos and Andy was a favorite we watched every early evening just before dinner Monday thru Friday at 6 pm.
Remember seeing this program when I was 5 years old in 1951.I couldn't understand any of the situations at the time .The beginning credits with the dark skyline come back to me
It was so sad when this show was canceled. It put a lot of great actors out of work. The NAACP pressured CBS to cancel the show because some of the characters were shown as negative stereotypes. It was comedy at its best! 💙
It aired over radio and tv for over 20 years so hardly a surprise to see it finally get canceled. Today a show disparaging white people (or even a show accurately depicting white slave owners in a negative light) wouldn't even last 20 days before right-wingers like Gov. Meatball Ron would boycott it or ban it from being shown in schools.
More genius in the first 30 seconds than the past 60 years of subsequent tv, with only a very few exceptions: Honeymooners, Twilight Zone, a very few others..,
Just about EVERY actor of the Amos and Andy show were Black. Every businessman, every lawyer, every judge, every detective and policeman, every doctor were Black. What great role models this show presented.
It was taken off the air, because many Black people felt like it was racist in how they depicted Black people talking. Kingfish's exaggerated voice is a perfect example.
Classic! Watch with open mind! History is deep baby! The foundation of what is? Is right here! Uncut and True! In artistic character form, these actors are doing their thang! Vaudeville Vets! As a child,I was told to be pissed off,but as I got older in the Arts! Its understood......Solid
Ha ha ha I've read some of the Comments ...it's a lot of OLD 🐓 ROOSTERS,AND HEN'S NOW WHO USE TO WATCH ...AMOS AND ANDY...I LOVED IT...A TREASURE!!!!!!
4:25 you getting anywhere Andy? No I ain't got nowhere since my name and address. I'd be the same as him. I could never figure out those darn income tax forms either. Or even figure my taxes up. lol Don't feel bad Andy you ain't the only one. :)
I love this show and it is better than the Sh.. Today like someone else said Haha .I love you my brothers and sisters in Christ . This is good clean entertainment . I see why my dad loved these guys so much
I used to really enjoy Sanford and Son in the 1970's and I didn't know it then, but so many of those episodes were simply recycled scripts from Amos and Andy.
Mini or joyful afternoon and evening were spent watching The Amos & Andy Show I didn't like mad but watching someone get beat out of them money my math classes became very interesting thank you for showing this to the new generation thank you thank you thank you
I was too young for the radio show, but we looked forward to watching the TV show in the afternoon after we got home from school. This and the 3 Stooges were our "must see" TV.
I was laughing out loud watching this. Too bad our entertainment industry can’t figure out how to make us laugh anymore. As they say, it’s the best medicine.
Just found Owen Clinton's channel and subscribed...if you were a child growing up in the 40s and 50, and your family had a tv, you might remember the Amos and Andy Show (airing from 1951 to June 1953...taken off the air as the NAACP was beginning to feel its overseeing protection for the Black Community in this new era television...they took offence to the 'slap-stick' comedy played by the casts of Amos and Andy...I was 8 years old when the show started and I loved the show, I loved the comedy it portrayed...thanks to Owen Clinton I can revisit these episodes...all I remember about the shows was the laughter it brought to me and my family...maybe, just maybe, it will bring new laughter to those who are not hemmed in by political correctness...we need to lighten up or we will dig the ditch deeper...
People have said that this show is racist as it portrays blacks in a negative way but all comedy teams act stupid regardless of race. I prefer to describe it as a great show with a group of absolutely brilliant comedians.
if i was around when this show first aired and watched how the CBS censors and NAACP took it off the air i would've cried like a baby.what a shame and waste of pure talent and comedic genius.nothing like the crap on TV today where we've got thugs rapping with their pants down to their thighs.that's the way America wants to view and think all Black ppl act and live like?i seriously doubt it...Calhoun and Lightning were my all time favorites on this show.
You're so right, black or white comedy shows seems like desperate forced comedy today. Great writing and clean comedy without attatude. The cast looks as if they are having a good time with their roles. A treasure of a show.
A chance to see the great Tim Moore performing as the Kingfish. Mr. Moore had had a fifty year career in vaudeville but came out of retirement to play in this series. He died shortly afterwards and some of Hollywood's biggest stars attended his funeral.
Yes, you are correct. I would just add that his more than 50 year career Included much, much more than vaudeville. It's all out there online if you want to read about him. There are scores of newspaper articles, book reviews and biographies, even photos if you want to check them out.
I used to watch them when i was a kid. They were absolutely hilarious! They were very talented actors and actresses. My parents and i like many other people NEVER saw it as making fun of the African American people, It was just good clean comedy with no cursing or hidden sexual meanings. I wish we could have programs like this today. There wasn't any violence in A+A either. Today everybody is so touchy. What's wrong with people today?
It made fun of Black people as much as ANY sitcom makes fun of White people. Only the Kingfish, Calhoun, and Lightning were characters. Every other Black was a professional and presented positively. Even Andy was pretty normal as a straight man for the Kingfish. Amos was so normal he was boring and barely used. Harlem was presented as totally Black world with no Whites
@@staticcharm3808 Hello, I disagree with the last two lines in your post. I have watched these episodes multiple times and I do see white people in the episodes. For example, in this one, " The Income Tax Show", I can count at least five white people in the Internal Revenue Office.
Amos & Andy was a great sit com. All the actors were very talented and the plots were funny. They should re-run these episodes today. Better than any shows today (2023). Great comedy.
i wanted to thank you very much for posting this an other shows. one post talked about tom moore dying broke an the family not being able to bury him, but frank s. steped in an helped. thats what actors do . help the ones that need it. i hope his family still gets paid. they should run these shows cable. like on H& I
I don't see the racism at all. This is a very funny and wholesome show. If this show is racist then the movie dumb and dumber is prejudice against white guys from Rhode island. If anything this show seems progressive for its time Black lawyers black cops black judges.

I loved this show as a kid, and those guys were all great. This episode, is really hilarious. Andy's cigar.. lmao!
Thank you for showing Amos and Andy I loved the show very funny
It was not ridiculing at all. My family loved them and so did I.
Real friendly family viewing deserves support.
My father used to love A&A's gag, I paraphrase, "I got really stuck bad in that used car deal" "Then, that makes you the *stuckee* !".
Personally, I would have named the show "Kingfish and Andy" but either way either way, they were all great. God bless them all.
Yes 👍🏾 thanks very much for the upload
Love it. Was misinterpreted by many. Well done and classic. Thank you.
As a large white family in Memphis Tennessee in the mid 50s, Amos and Andy was a favorite we watched every early evening just before dinner Monday thru Friday at 6 pm.
of course because it reassured you that black people were hapless and harmless, sort of like children.
What great role models this show presented.
yes if only black people were as hapless and helpless as these folks, they might have never tried to stand up and ask for the vote.
Thank you for this GREAT and funny show. What a shame they took it off the air.
It was taken off the air, because many Black people felt like it was racist in how they depicted Black people talking. Kingfish's exaggerated voice is a perfect example.
they took it off the air because it portrays black men as hapless children. It's insulting and demeaning.
OMG I haven"t laughed this hard in years!
Thanks so much...this was my favorite comedy, a real classic. I missed it all these years.
Classic! Watch with open mind! History is deep baby! The foundation of what is? Is right here! Uncut and True! In artistic character form, these actors are doing their thang! Vaudeville Vets! As a child,I was told to be pissed off,but as I got older in the Arts! Its understood......Solid
vaudeville? Minstrel!
I used to watch it when I was little I Love it.
Nice directing technique, the way they rolled over the mailbox scene and the burning scene as Andy's faced showed him recollecting.
Or even figure my taxes up. lol
Don't feel bad Andy you ain't the only one. :)
I love this show and it is better than the Sh.. Today like someone else said Haha .I love you my brothers and sisters in Christ . This is good clean entertainment . I see why my dad loved these guys so much
Joseph Lee Hooker Good
talent nothing like we got today
Exactly!
Andy and Calhoun were my favorites :)
You're so right, black or white comedy shows seems like desperate forced comedy today. Great writing and clean comedy without attatude. The cast looks as if they are having a good time with their roles. A treasure of a show.
Df
I HAVE THE COMPLETE AMOS AND ANDY SERIES ON DVD,MY SUNDAY MORNING BREAFAST SPECIAL,!!!
A chance to see the great Tim Moore performing as the Kingfish. Mr. Moore had had a fifty year career in vaudeville but came out of retirement to play in this series. He died shortly afterwards and some of Hollywood's biggest stars attended his funeral.
Yes, you are correct. I would just add that his more than 50 year career
Included much, much more
than vaudeville. It's all out there online if you want to read about him. There are scores of newspaper articles, book reviews and biographies, even photos if you want to check them out.
I remember watching this show when I was a kid ❤️
I remember watching this on tv. Funny then, funny now
Watched this show all the time as a kid.
@@staticcharm3808 Hello,
I disagree with the last two lines in your post. I have watched these episodes multiple times and I do see white people in the episodes. For example, in this one, " The Income Tax Show", I can count at least five white people in the Internal Revenue Office.
THANK YOU for sharing what you have!!
I just laughed and enjoyed this one. I'm up at 6:00 am laughing and enjoying this.
Amos & Andy was a great sit com. All the actors were very talented and the plots were funny. They should re-run these episodes today. Better than any shows today (2023). Great comedy.
i wanted to thank you very much for posting this an other shows. one post talked about tom moore dying broke an the family not being able to bury him, but frank s. steped in an helped. thats what actors do . help the ones that need it. i hope his family still gets paid. they should run these shows cable. like on H& I
Tim Moore helped and entertained no telling how many people in his 50 + years in the entertainment business. He was truly an American treasure.
Calhoun was one of the most scariest lawyers around. I always wondered if he ever had any clients.
Calhoun represented a few clients on the show he was hilarious.
In real life, Calhoun (Johnnie Lee) recorded a record in 1949.
But, But, But You Honor.
I remember this show when I was a child. Watched it a lot.
I don't see the racism at all. This is a very funny and wholesome show. If this show is racist then the movie dumb and dumber is prejudice against white guys from Rhode island. If anything this show seems progressive for its time Black lawyers black cops black judges.
tomkat898 See my post a little higher up Tom. Cheers.
I think they kingfish Andy & the rest should have a place on the Hollywood walk of FAME
I think kingfish Andy & the rest of that cast should have a place on the Hollywood walk of Fame
I ain't got nowhere but my name and address. Hilarious
my mom love them...REST IN PEACE MOM!!!!
I have loved this show since I was a little girl. The Christmas show is my favorite. Loved little Albedella saying her prayers. A wonderful show and I will never outgrow it. Thanks for this video.
Watched this show as a child.Very funny .Brings back great memories. Thanks
They made us laugh as kids.
A shame this stuff isn't on tv for the world to see. A lot of the 70s and 80s shows took ideas from this show ...
