This is a wonderful show, way ahead of its time. It's tragic that the show was pulled from the air after some black organizations called it racist. Believe it or not..I watched this show on the 50's with my grandparents and great uncle . He had a corner grocery store in a mostly black neighborhood for many many years. I remember saying...Uncle talks just like them ! Unk was a hoot. The people loved him, he gave credit all the time and sold popsickles to the kids at his cost. I used to go and spend time in the store "the stow" . Unk would bring home "poke chops". I can still do the accents today. No one made fun of Amos and Andy nor got "racist" about things. Strange bubble I grew up in ! Not really...plenty of us did.

These shows are so funny and well-made. Clean comedy and a moral/lesson to every episode. This truly great show has a completely undeserved controversy surrounding it,regarding supposed 'racism' .
There is nothing remotely 'racist' in Amos and Andy. The comedy, characters, situations
and jokes could be seen in many other shows of then (and now),they are comedic tropes and they are undeniably funny. The Honeymooners,I Love Lucy, Abbott and Costello,(to name just a few shows) had similar tropes in many of their episodes over the years.
Besides all that, the show has a truly sweet undercurrent to it,the actors and crew are enjoying themselves and giving their best efforts.
I have not seen a bad episode yet,and I've seen at least 20. It is a travesty that this show was basically off the air for several decades,as it is a masterpiece.
Watch and you will laugh, you won't be able to 'not laugh' I promise.

This TV show got a lot of flak in the years after its running; but it seems that those critical of this show lost sight that it was a comedy, where it showed the cast of characters living a middle-class existence; all were dressed well and not impoverished; where those other guest supporting characters were working professionals as doctors, attorneys; and business owners.
If anything, it showed Harlem in a positive light.

I loved this series when I was a kid in the 1950’s and I still do. These actors were really good. Calhoun was my favorite. Tim Moore as the Kingfish was an old vaudevillian comedian. I can understand how people would see this as a bad reflection on the black people. I never thought of it that way. You can’t judge yesterday’s environment by today’s standards. I just enjoyed the entertainment these fine actors portrayed.

Andy and Kingfish aren't depicted as representative of black people. The rest of the characters in the show - ordinary people, from all walks of life - are depicted as representative of black people.
If this show disparages black people, then the Flintstones, and Jackie Gleason's the Honeymooners, are two shows that disparage white people.

A&A was a great show with great actors/actresses, the support and guest characters were terrific. When I grew up in the sixties everybody I knew loved this show and were livid when the naacp targeted them to be canceled. The cast were doctors, lawyers, clerks, car salesman, government employees. They should've sued for their rights to earn a living, perform professionally etc,...the worst travesty portrayed against the American entertainment industry.

My father worked for the electric company and we had the first television in the neighborhood, 10” I think with a huge tube and rabbit ears. My mother bought a large magnifying glass that fit in front of the screen to make it look larger.

@@maxinefowler1186 I'm white, I'm 71, and from N.Y. As a pre teen in the late 50's- early 60's TV shows were great. Jewish people have always been a big part of what we saw then and even into the future. Most of them got rich. (I don't know about now). "Amos and Andy" taught me some 'life lessons' just like other shows did. Some respect is due to all. Everybody is peculiar, some MUCH more than others !!!

It just gives me comfort just like "Car 54 Where are You?" Not one police officer is complaining about that show, which featured a bumbling police department. Some Black folx are very hypocritical. Every ethnic group can be made fun of but not them. What makes them so special? Far as I'm concerned everybody has to take a turn in the hot seat 🤣🤣🤣.
