The rat story - parents are the AH for only getting one rat. RATS NEED COMPANY!
Edit now it's finished: that mother and daughter are heinous. Under no circumstances is it ok to abandon a pet into the wild. Fancy rats are absolutely not suited to wild living, fingers crossed somebody was able to rescue the poor thing. (I am a rat expert/ care educator)

I'm not a rat person just love animals. But that royally pissed me off. This mother daughter combo is toxic AF.

Rat Story: The daughter is likely being bribed, whether she realizes it or not. Mommy probably either offers her a dinner out, a new iPad, a new phone, new clothes, etc. or immediately after the daughter does what she wants she provides her with some grand treat - reinforcing the behavior as good in her eyes. The mother has also clearly brainwashed the daughter, making her father out to be a cartoon villain almost. Good for the son for not believing any of it. Poor OP, and that poor Rat. I hope a good samaritan was able to get it to a rescue or other form of safety, but I'm not optimistic...

I found your channel recently, love your energy! I like to listen to videos like this when falling asleep. Any chance the music in-between stories could be removed or the volume lowered? It's really jarring when you're audio-only. Thanks!

Last story baby names: Also watch out for what initials can spell. Apparently my sister hated that her initials were GAP (long before the jeans store) but then married into GAB. (Then divorced, back to GAP...) She could always go with "Dangerfield," and say she's a Rodney fan, call him "Danger," for short. But it can't top him being able to say, "Danger is my middle name. No really, it's on my birth certificate."
Story 5 cake hog MOB: She's diabetic? Have the bakery make her a damn sugar free cupcake or mini cake with "Mother of the Bride," emblazoned on it. Then serve it to her, or cordon off an area around it on a dessert table and place it safely there, for all to see. 😄. That ought to shut her down (not up, nothing will shut her up). Unless every story with narcissistic demands is a Kobayashi Maru, this one is not. The only way for OP to "win," is to stick to her guns and have the cake she wants - which is already a concession to her spoiled mother. Acceding to mom's demands gets her nothing, and sets a precedent of weakness for the entire marriage.
    Don't nobody mess with a bride's cake.

"You Should Smile More" - My most shocking experience with this was when I was at my workplace. A woman I've known most of my life personally (accidentally became coworkers) saw me walking down the hallway in focus work mode. I own that I have RBF (Resting B**** Face for anyone who doesn't know), but RBF does not excuse the behavior. As I come across this woman, she presses her fingers to the edges on her lips and forces them up in a grotesque marionette-like smile, and proceeds to say "You need to smile!" I was so gobsmacked, I mumbled something to get out of the situation. But that experience has stayed with me. I almost have come to expect it from men, but from another woman who I know is very much a feminist? I was shocked.

Strawberry wedding cake: if that was the only cake being served, i would tell the bride not to have strawberry. But since there were other options, i say no. Tell mom she can eat the other cake, have no cake, or, not come. I dont care

Baby name story: My husband (now ex) and I had three boys. The eldest is named after his dad because dad is Paul III making our eldest Paul IV. After that I wanted to do a biblical name theme. My ex-husband and I are also Simpson fans. My married name was Mann so the middle son is named Bartholomew Mann. He’s Bartman. Yes, I named our middle child after a cartoon character’s superhero alter ego that at the time (1997) had only made a very brief appearance in one episode. Our youngest is Josiah Prince Mann. Why Prince? Because I’m not a fan of two middle names otherwise he would’ve been Josiah Depeche Mode Mann. My mom pointed out years later that the boys are P, B, & J just like the Disney show they watched at her house

That’s amazing 😂 I loved that show and you could get a cute tattoo from it. I think the names are pretty rare and can fit many different peronalities and proffessions! Depeche mode made me laugh and if i met someone with that middle name i’d automatically assume they were awesome 👍

I already have tattoos to represent each kiddo. My eldest is Phillip J Fry from Futurama making his squinty eye face because that’s the face he made most as a teenager. My middle one is represented by Herschel Walker Cuyler Them Dawgs Is Hell Don't They from the Squidbillies episode The Good One because he would “WOO” just like the character. My youngest is represented by Mooninite Ignignokt from Aqua Teen Hunger Force giving the finger because when he was little he’d ask me to say the eff word. When I did he’d ask me to say it with ‘er’ at the end. I’d say f🤬cker and he’d run off laughing

Cassie's Mom chose herself over her daughter 170,000 times. i would cut ties too. choosing to live your life without bad parents is just something some people have to do. and those people who are aware of the bad parenting tend to end up being really good parents themselves.

Strawberry cake: my bff can't eat cheese, she'll get violently ill. Even the smell makes her uncomfortable. At her wedding there were quite a few appetizers of cheese or included cheese. Why? Because she was rational and knew she could avoid it, even though it was her big day. Mob is being ridiculous.

About the baby names.. im currently expecting a girl and my husband and i had several names picked out and was going through the list with family and my mom went off the rails about one name in particular. I and everyone else thinks she might have lost her mind a little. The name in question is Nevaeh. Mom said she likes the name and its pretty. I said the same thing and fun fact Nevaeh is Heaven spelt backwards. Mom then went on a tangent about how we will curse our little girl to be the worst spoiled little monster in the world if we give her any name associated with the bible, heaven, hell, or anything biblical/ religious..🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨 at the time i just looked at her like she was crazy but then later wanted to ask her why all 3 of my brothers have names associated with the bible and why she had no problem with her grandson's name.. but i didnt ask because i didnt want to spark another insane episode from her. After another month my husband and i settled on another name we absolutely love (more than all the other names) and have been telling everyone the name we settled on. Mom is convinced we are still going with Nevaeh and how we are going to regret it. I dont want to tell her she is being ridiculous and insane because i know she is under a lot of stress from work and with her ms but i dont know how to get her to stop. Ive told her 4 times now we arent going with that name and have chosen another name we love much more than Nevaeh.🤦‍♀️

1:14:28 kids will find a way to make fun of each other no matter the name. I had a friend named Hannah and they still found was to tease her about the name. Kids are cruel. Think about how will adults treat them (as an adult) like would coworkers make fun of their name?

Honestly Daynger and Tinkerbelle are not the worst names. When people share their babies names with you, they don’t want your opinion, they just want support. If Daynger grows up to be a super sweet cautious computer programmer or something it would be so awesome. Let people like things. People made fun of Shaylee?! That not a name thing, that’s a her thing… i’ve never heard shaylee be gayley so that’s all her personal issue and she is panicking for kids that aren’t hers.

I had rats as a kid. They're very cute and they were domesticated. So, that rat in the story is dead. It had no survival skills. If you get a pet you are responsible for it and can't just chuck it into the woods to die. I'm glad the son got away from those two.

Yup. Will be in the "final, final, no really, final" update. But good luck to her if OP ever has to choose between doing something with/for her or stepdaughter. I agree with the reddit folk who thought it sounded weird that he chose the phrase "cuddled with," his step daughter after she cried on his shoulder. "Held and consoled," would have been more appropriate for a 52yr old to do with a 17 or so year old. The dude is articulate enough in his post to have used a different phrase.

While I agree with your opinions on the Misogynist DollarvStore Bill story, Id like to add that I feel some sympathy for the Mom in this situation. You summed it up perfectly: she's tired and resigned to it. I agree she could have advocated more for her child, so I am sympathizing not excusing. I just imagine that her mother has probably been fighting that treatment for at least 30 years (conservative, I know, but saying her whole life felt it would overdramatize the point). At some point, that fight would just be too exhausting. The words "internal misogyny" get used a lot and tend to be blamey when often I think it's a "if you cant win, join em" syndrome. (Theres probably an actual.term, but I dont know it.) Anyway, not excusing-- just expressing a little sympathy. Its hard to be a woman.

Story 3: Typical golden child sibling behavior.
Story 4: I hate the word creep. Majority of the time, women say it to innocent men. In this case. Creepy. It was how he kept going on.
Story 5: I think this a shortened simplified version, of an original story.
Story 6: Tragedeigh = a given name that has been deliberately misspelled or completely made up to appear more unique than it actually is.

Sadly the mom's reaction in the smile story isn't that surprising. A lot of us are taught that it's not a big deal and to just go with it or ignore it when comments like that are made, especially if it comes from the older generation because "there from a different time that was normal when they grew up". Hell ignoring it and saying "there's more important shit to worry about" probably would have been my first impulse. But in the end what he said was obnoxious and she had every right to say so, she actually handled it with a lot more grace than some people would, mad her family needs to chill. Making a running joke of something that made someone feel uncomfortable or insulted isn't ok.
Good morning from Az, ya'll help me stay safe during my double shifts ❤

Because of my family, I'm used to "accepting" a lot of inappropriate comments and behavior. My first reaction is "just ignore it," even when those comments are directed towards my kids. It's been a process learning not to go with my first reaction, because I now recognize it's not okay. At least the mom acknowledged her mistake.
