2ga-2gb isn't a direct swap but the 3g eclipse is though. Which evo8 4g63 engine swap has been done before I have a photo of a blue 3g with evo7 engine.

I have 92 eclipse gs fwd, pain in the ass to make awd. Different gas tank, and body style plus you have to swap the rear end to hold the differential. Gs is only for turbo builds

Check every auto yard within 50 miles of your location. I'd call first. Mine was bought from a dishonest Mexican 5 years ago who parted it out without telling me so it was essentially a scrap, too. Spent 2 months no-lifing the rebuild complete with modern electronics to also fill what was missing. The only thing original is carpeting. If I can do it, anyone can. Go for it!

I think there are a lot of 2g 420a owners that took good care of their cars I think this is a nice option for base 2g owners that want to add more power or go awd, I was planing to do this myself on a 2g dsm but I decided to swap my mirage hatch instead, I would be interested in a video on some of the details of the wiring thats where I think most people might get lost on these builds maybe a video just on that subject would be a good idea.
This swap used to be very popular in Japan during the mid to late 90's and even a bit in the early 2000's. You'll need a 2GNT (2'nd gen 1995-1999 RS or GS only) so the front clip matches the engine mount locations. Evo 4-9 engines -w- tranny, Diff, axles and hubs for AWD or 4G64 Tranny, axles and hubs for FWD. Don't forget ECU, engine Harness, dash harness and or dash dial pin ups too. It takes some work but so does dropping an RB25 in a 240SX. Or an LS1 in a Mazda RX7 ( sacralige) etc.. The result Is you will have a 2 door EVO if you opt for AWD. As the 1st and second gen Eclipse shares the same body platform with the EVO. Just lighter. (thus potentially quicker) ;)
Good job bro. This is a great way to get interest for folks to buy the non turbo 2g. They are always looked passed. I love my 1g. But I love the body style of the 2g. Plus the aftermarket suspension bits are better.

Funny how you say coming from a "140"hp 420a cus if you dyno a 420a it doesn't even make that much its more like 88hp @ wheels and even worse about 20less than rated at 118hp @flywheel. However now that you mentioned your build is originally a 420a im suddenly super interested in buying a 1996 eclipse rs XD! I never though id say that I hated how slow my old 2GNT GS was but now omg. Love your amazing build! Fantastic
With that much gauge and body electronics not working still, I'd opt to gut the stock body harness and build the entire car electronics from scratch with a Haltech or other aftermarket system..
The gagues he mentioned shouldn't be a big problem, he can purchase wiring diagram online and put them using the original harness and gagues from his eclipse. If he were close I woulda went n did the wiring for him.
No room to V-wedge mount the intercooler and radiator? (similar to what builders of FDrx7s do?) Beautiful car and build, great taste with exterior mods too. Hang on to it man.
You should get a wifi OBD2 port and download the app Dash command so you can have a live feed of what's going on 100% with your engine, personally own this EMS OBD2 wifi port amzn.to/2PFfZpc and its worked heavily for me over the past 3 years and anyone who needs it to check the codes and even remove the check engine light when it comes up . this would be a quick solution on the meanwhile while you fix your cluster because the dash command app has everything from RPM, Boost, wideband, engine load, timing, intake, and coolant temps etc... its super useful over all .
Some of the electric items you mention not working are very simple to fix. When you go to fix the items just focus on understanding how you will make the two wiring harness match and that your dealing with simple switches. Ie backup lights. Just a switch off your trans. I would use the evo pig tail and cut n splice/solder heat shrink the harness.same with blinkers easy switch. If you need easy wiring schematics go to any shop and ask for a print out off of their shop key program or their mitchell all data. They will not charge you for that stuff. Its kinda like the least they can do for you. Hope this helps someone. Sometimes its hard to find wiring schematics on the net.

BTW, the GST and GSX models are basically 2 door EVO 1-3's as they share the same frame platform, engine and front clip. As do the GS and RS's minus the front clip. Personally I'd rather have an EVO 9 MIVEC 4G63-T engine for quicker spooling during daily driving. So the RS/GS EVO 9 Eng swap is definitely worth it for me.

i've got a 91 galant, wont be able to get the original 4g63 motor for it in my country so gonna use a 4g64 block which is really common here and use a blown 4g63 block's head. my friend's got 3 rods and pistons which he'll give me since he blew his motor and swapped to a stroker kit. Thanks for this video though couldn't find any tutorials on these swaps on evo 3's or galants, i might be the first to do it on a galant
Just a heads up 2g gsx rear subframe and rear diff will not line up with your evo 8 transfer case. the rear subframe and diff has to come out of a different Mitsubishi product to line up without much modifications 🤫
Question is there anything I should worry about when 4g63 swap my 3g eclipse I herd I gotta worry about the starter and the exhaust manifold but that’s it anything else I should be concerned about it ?
Someone needs to do a detailed tutorial on this conversion. All the eclipse gsx's are hard to find and by the time you find one it's probably been abused. Plenty of eclipse gs and rs out there

Mines is an 01 auto gt. Would u say still go for it an swap. Parts for me are easy to get. Just finding someone to helps with the build. Or would u recommend finding a donor 01 stick. Really we wanted to finished the eclipse I already have. Currently daily do have other cars. 280k still running.

I have a evo flat flywheel but I can find a push pressure plate clutch for it.

Have you tried using a GTS or GSX Harness? I dont know how different is from the 420a but I'm running a Evo 8 ECU on my 2g GST and everything works.
