This is a great hire a young coordinator on the rise tending upwards he's down the ability to take a bottom defense and improve them dramatically. He has coached in the LA market with the conditions that the west coast presents, the LA media, cost of living, the culture of the kids. His dad is an nfl coach, he's been an nfl coach so he's been around the business and knows what it takes to get to the next level. This is a solid hiring choice. Amazing hire better fit than the other options available

Tim and Matt have not discussed D'Anton Lynn's statistics having not included Oregon or Washington, teams UCLA did not play and their cupcake non-conference opponents. And USC did play Notre Dame, Oregon, and Washington. So when discussing our new DC's record it's not complete because he did not have to defend two of the best offenses in the Pac 12.
Well, he did play OSU and UA... they both are top 15 offenses. He did miss UO and UW, but ND's offense was nothing special. He dominated defenses he should have dominated. I'm good with half empty because he doesn't have a proven track record, but he looks like a rock star.

For those concerned that Riley is keeping the others on the defensive staff intact. Remember, they have a bowl game left to play. Lincoln isn't just going to fire all of them prior to the bowl game and have nobody on the defensive staff for the bowl game. More to the point based on USC’s O-line play it definitely wasn’t just a grinch thing. Grinch was only a symptom of the overall issue, not the actual cause. Also you need to go look at Wiley’s S&C programs at texas and then you’ll realize things are different.
What is "Big 10 knowledge" exactly? Do they play some kind of magic football in the Big 10? OF COURSE NOT. If anything, Pax 12 offenses are more difficult to coach against.

Under Stoops the Sooners had two 5 loss seasons, a 4 loss and three 3 loss seasons. RIley had a better winning percentage at OU than Bob.
UCLA lost five (5) times during the regular season. SC lost just as many games. Riley cut Grinch loose due to lack of performance over the past two (2) years. My question is this. Why couldn’t Riley attract DC’s from all the winning teams in college football, ie., Georgia, Michigan, Florida State, Washington, Iowa, Oregon, Ohio State, and Louisville? This is a strategical hire by Riley so he can keep his buddy staff in place. Leonhard & other DC passed because they cannot hire there own staff. Coach Lynn is young & had a great staff at UCLA on defense. Riley creates non contact workouts and inherits bad tackling. Coach Lynn has 1 year experience and bounced around the NFL year to year. This was a hire that Riley can handcuff with his system for practices. Then the strength training with Wylie is the other main issue. Leonhard should have been the hire with his own staff.

Lynn had UCLA as one of the top defenses in the country with 3 star players going up against high-powered QBs and offenses. Jim is a dinosaur look up the times he played Ohio State and an actual passing attack.

I really don't understand what the hell Adam is talking about! Where in the hell does a head coach allow his assistance to become the HCIC?!? That has to be the most insipid thing that I've ever heard! Now if he was still determined to keep Alex Grinch that would be different but he moved on with one of his best friends who he's had with him a long time to realize what the bigger picture is at USC and his hired probably one of the best young innovative defensive coordinators who has the experience of not only as a player but being a coach and then coming from a lineage of great defensive-minded coaches.

This will be tested in 2024 now that the defense has been sorted out. To me the defense has held him back. This hire MOST LIKELY removed one variable.
