I literally felt a disturbance in my heart as I’d like to call it that compelled me to check the news. When I read the headlines I dropped my phone and started crying hard. I never knew the man or cared for his sport much but he meant the whole world for a lot of my close cousins whose only comfort was found in a ball court. He was a living legend who’s star left our skies too soon

Russell said it best during Kobe's retirement "He was our Jordan". For a lot of 90's kids we knew Jordan, but we were babies and toddlers. So we couldn't truly appreciate him. At least not Bulls Jordan. We knew who he was and how great he was, but we didn't see him in his prime. But we did have Kobe. We knew how great he was. All those amazing shots, incredible handling of the ball, inspiring mentality. He was the one that we looked up to, the one inspired us to play basketball, or at least love it. He was the reason we got into basketball. He did so much for the sport. Man now I'm just sad...

Can you imagine how he felt as a father knowing he couldn't protect her?
Can you imagine him holding her, consoling her, telling her he loved her as that helicopter went down?

Kobe wouldn't appreciate being called the king of LA, he was much too modest. However, this is definitely the most tragic incident in North American sports in half a century.

I told my girl the same thing. Lisa Leslie did a little bit but no one to transcend the gender barrier. GiGi was gonna do that. I would watch WNBA for his daughter. It would be like watching a mini him maybe. Now that's all gone. And I'm a sobbing mess.

That Spencer Dinwiddie interview brought me to tears. I can only imagine having a legend tell you that... Priceless. Kobe was my hero growing up.. I have to take a step back from all things sports related so that I can heal in peace.
