"We lost probably the world's greatest Laker," that's so brutal coming from Shaq. Everyone knows the legacies of both of these men were always tied together and Shaq pretty much never openly acquiesced to the idea that Kobe was better than him. Hearing him say that under those circumstances was maybe the most heartbreaking display of humble respect I've ever seen. I'm feeling like I need to call my dad and my sisters to tell them that I love them.
Kobe wasn't 'better' than Shaq...he just played in LA longer. Shaq's Lakers resume is better than Kobe's on an individual level in fewer years. More Finals MVP's and same regular season MVP's in 12 fewer years.
@@manuginobilisbaldspot424 yeah right Shaq have gotten those Finals MVP by "dominating" bumass centers in the finals, meanwhile Kobe got the best perimeter defenders of the era while having equal contribution to the whole 2001 postseason and carrying Shaq ass through the whole 2002 playoffs (finals against Nets was already a given win). Seasonal MVPs are also popularity contests, not a measure of greatness, and we all know media hated Kobe back then because of the Colorado case. And your argument is invalid since you're saying Shaq's accomplishments by being a Laker demolishes Kobe because he had been in Lakers longer than Shaq. Nope. That's the most stupid thing I've ever seen in RUclips in a while. Shaq winning those MVPs should already be expected as he was the best big man of the time and was on prime mode compared to a 21-23 years old player just about to enter his prime. It's like saying Rodman was the better Laker than Pau Gasol because of his whole resume while only being a Laker for a year. See the absurdity? Stop reaching. Kobe is the best Laker because he holds the most records for the franchise, even Magic and the owners already admitted that fact, so nobodies and wannabe experts can't deny this. Also, if you're gonna say because he played there for 20 years, that's the point. It's rare for a player to even play 10-13 years in the league, even moreso in a lone franchise. That's not a demerit to his achievements but is actually a proof that he's dedicated, something new players today severly lack.
Amy Rend I don’t care about being manly. If you won’t to act like that people won’t like you but that’s you, so I’m not stopping you. But don’t stop the people who feel bad for a guy who has seen so many people who he loved died
I was in boot camp when this happened and it was so grueling at the time we didn’t fully get the emotional impact until much later. 3 years later and I’m silently weeping at the anguish of so many people over such a great man. It’s palpable and it gives me hope that more good people like Kobe and all the others who died before their time gift their talent and purpose to another worthy soul.
When he said he's going to reach out to people more because you never know when they're gone and saying he wishes he could say one more thing to everyone that has passed.. that hit me, I feel ya Shaq
That reality check hit me when i lost my father, i haven't talked to him for weeks before he passed and i wish i could talk to him for one last time. Now i can never go for a while without contacting or spending time with all my loved ones. Life is too short.
i hope people realize that this monologue is a cry for help. as soon as he said "i don't talk to you guys as much as i need to" and his voice broke that should be crystal clear. "people say, take your time, it'll get better...i already don't sleep anyway. ...i'll figure it out" that sentence should set off alarm bells. the belief that it won't get better, feeling of powerlessness, then followed by deflection, "whatever, i'll handle it". recognize signs like this in your own life so you can know when people REALLY need you to be there for them, to spend time with them, and to just listen to them.
@@DennGreenIII Most, if not all, of us have lost someone. That's beside the point. I've lost multiple people in my life, and I've never been broken, just brokenhearted. Being broken is a collapse, a subjugation to pain, a surrender. Shaq hasn't surrendered, is not broken. Again, he's brokenhearted. His losses have not brought him to his knees. Shaq, you’re an amazing human being and I can honestly say that everyone on this earth loves you. And there’s just no words to describe the heart breaking pain of losing a human being as remarkable an individual, a one of a kind soul and just a special person like Kobe Bryant. But I do stop and think about what Kobe did in life and and have dedicated, motivated and driven he was to leaving a truly inspiring and forever lasting legacy on not just the sport but on the world. The fact that he put in the work and then put in some more and more and more and knowing that it paid off in his life and it will continue to pay off as his legacy, as the Mamba Mentality, will forever motivate and inspire so many people forever in his afterlife. Everyone can learn something from Kobe and that’s to never stop grinding. You are never perfect, no one’s perfect. So that means you can always make yourself better in every aspect of your life. I'm feeling like I need to call my dad and my sisters to tell them that I love them.
i hope you called them always nice to let them know
Kobe wasn't 'better' than Shaq...he just played in LA longer.

Man this hurt to rewatch 4 years later on the day Kobe’s statue outside of the Staples Center gets unveiled. Love you Kobe. To Kobe, Gigi and the other individuals whose lives were tragically cut short that day………. You are all greatly missed but will never be forgotten. Rest in paradise

well if you feel like shit today wait till tomorrow more often more times then not you can move on and the pain slowly goes away
They will hopefully meet in heaven.

NOT true my man, you're not gone forever.
Shaquille has turned out to be a great man, a great leader and all around great human being. We are honored to walk the earth at the same time with a gentleman such as him. He truly is one of the greatest role models not only for the young kids today but for us adults who stumbling through life together.
Agreed. I’m so impressed by how he’s grown throughout the years.
what makes you say that?
Absolutely. He never ceases to amaze me with his kindness, humility and generosity. He truly is one of the best ones we got.
The ironic thing is that only our interpretation of him has changed...he's the same guy, but media and our own belief system leads us to "chose sides" and think differently over time
Shaq is a national treasure
He is a gentle giant. Watching him speak about the loss of Kobe brought tears to my eyes. Life is so short and we tend to not recognize that until such tragedy strikes us. RIP Gigi & Kobe.
@Chris Pine okay what about it what’s ur point
I remember Derek Jeter saying at 40 and his final season in baseball and with the Yankees that someone told him that he was an old man at baseball, but a young man in life. Kobe was still a young man in life even at and after retirement. He was just getting his post-NBA career just started. He was focusing on being a loving husband and father to his family. Its such a shame! Even through their turmoil as teammates, Shaq got to know Kobe as a person and knew Kobe loved his family. Life is so short. RIP Kobe and Gigi
Gentle giant he is indeed. 7 ft 1 in. or 2.16m tall with a huge heart.
Shaq is a cool guy. My heart goes out to him. Kobe's passing hurts every time I am reminded of that day.
We love ya, Shaq.
Still come back to this video every once in a while, can't believe he's really gone. RIP Kobe
Really feel for the guy, he's in such a dark place right now.
Seeside Summerhouse Yeah....that talk about not sleeping is a red flag. Hope somebody close to him checks in.
Too many things happening in Shaqs life right now.
The lord Jesus Christ is the only one who can heal, I implore you and everyone else to seek him out and he will reveal him6to you and bring you hope beyond what you can understand.
God bless.
Jesus Sotelo Stop exploiting peoples grief to get them to join your religion. People like you are one of the reasons I left Christianity
@@JoBo0209 it's not joining a religion, its developing a relationship with christ. I dont follow man I follow the holy spirit. It would be unloving of me not to share truth and contrary to what you may think I personally dont know you but I have nothing but love for you and if my belief offends you please understand it wasn't meant to be that way.
I know he’s trying to hold back so many tears, man😔
Hes not hes just in shock

Crying is not weakness
Nearly four years now and it still feels unreal. Rest in peace to all involved. Miss you all ❤
you might think shaq isn’t a nice guy, but he actually is. he has a big heart for everyone.
everyone knows shaq is the best
Pretty sure there's not a soul on the whole planet who thinks "shaq isn't a nice guy". What are you even talking about...
Shaq is a famously good guy, everybody loves him
Thats the last thing on my mind is shaq not being a nice guy.
@@andrewoverhere8525 there are some people who don't like him for some reason they say he's a fat bully
