He was far from perfect, and I think it's important to acknowledge this. But I do have the sense that in the last ten years he did more and more and more to try to be a better person. All that quiet mentoring that he did for all the young players, including women players, makes this a really unbearable loss. He didn't have to do any of that, but he insisted on staying connected and trying to help others to succeed. Been reading and viewing a lot about him today, and one thing that keeps coming up is how isolated he was in his young years, both in high school and the NBA. I think he was working to make sure that no other super talented folks would have to go through those same years alone-- and for that I do see him as a different sort of hero.

As a father with a daughter I'm brought to tears at how it must have been in their final moments....all you want to do is protect her but for it to be out of a father's hands gets me so emotional. The terror Kobe and his daughter must have been feeling together as the helicopter was going down makes me so sad. 😢

      SO THE BELOVED MAN DIES
      AND THE GAMES CONTINUE !
NEVER EVER TRUST MAN KIND TO BE YOUR STRONG ARM HELP.
      ONLY CHRIST CAN BE TRUSTED.
THOSE GUYS UP ON THE TOP
FLOOR KNEW ALL OF HIS PLANS,
      HE WAS LAYING OUT.
      SOME ONE TOLD THEM EVERY
      THING IN THAT MAN'S HEART.
I WONDER DID HE MAKE IT RIGHT WITH GOD THU CHRIST. YOU CANNOT GET TO GOD WITHOUT GOING TRI. CHRIST.
WHY DIDN'T THEY HAVE A BLACK
BOX? THAT'S SERIOUS. THEY NEEDED THAT TO CLARIFY SOME THINGS, THAT HAPPENED ON THAT HELICOPTER. WHO TOOK
IT OUT? OR WAS IT EVER IN THERE. CHRIST HELP THEM
FIND OUT ALL THAT NEEDS TO BE
      KNOWN. ALL THOSE PEOPLE.
      WHAT ABOUT HIS MOTHER AND
      FATHER AND SISTER.?

This hurts as a NBA fan, Celtics fan.. I grew up rooted against that #8 and that 24. Saw him rise and fall and rise even higher. He was the best villain on the court. The only competitor you feared in clutch moments. If you beat him, it was a true victory. I always respected his greatness and loved what he brought to the Celtics Lakers historic rivalry
