      I have some questions. Is it possible to add the 3D Focus on the RED Komodo and have the Tilta power the RED with a Small HD monitor. I would really like to see that before buying it.Unfortunately it's taking some months before people I know who purchase the device to receive it so hopefully there will be a video review.

    Beautiful intro sequence. No puppy was harm during the viewing of the intro lol Great review by the way. I have built a "mini Trinity" by converting my study cam. But the load capacity of the arm (originally intended to use with my RED DSMC1) is way too overkill for my R5 load out. So I am in serious consideration of a Flow. I’ve had my Float for about a month now and I must say, this review was spot on. All of the tips and advice to get it balanced is exactly what I experienced in my first week. This is the review we’ve all been waiting for - especially the advice to less experienced film makers at the end. Well done 👍🏻

    • @theJon5

      And there is the crux of the problem with this. The armor man is easier to set up and more balanced over the shoulders and lower back. But its more expensive and out of the reach of amateurs. The float is more affordable but needs more professional handling and setup. So is it a fail? :)

    • @MichaelEgglerFilms
      @MichaelEgglerFilms  3 года назад +2

      Thanks for your input Jonathan. I think the Armor Man and the Float are two different categories of stabilisers. I own an Armor Man 2/ Mövi Pro Combo and this setup is mainly made to be able to fly heavy rigs for a longer time. The Float however offers more creative and smooth shooting options for more lightweight setups. At the end of the day both setups can be used professionally and imho, neither is a fail :)

    • @theJon5
      @theJon5 3 года назад +1

      @@MichaelEgglerFilms Thanks for the response. I was being slightly provocative using the word fail but in reality it is a clever product if you are prepared to invest time and effort. I just think its at a pricepoint where curious amateurs may purchase it and be frustrated. But with practice and effort I am sure most can make a success with this. They seem to have revised the contents in the most recent shipments to include 2 shoulder straps. One in the foam section and another in a pocket in the lid.

    • @MichaelEgglerFilms
      @MichaelEgglerFilms  3 года назад

      @@theJon5 you are right, the pricing is very competitive. And that‘s yet another thing I like about todays options on the market - better tech is available for more creators. Cinematic footage is no longer reserved for a small elite who can afford the tools to create it.

    nice review and very useful to know all the intricacies of the tilta float .... which now it is clear that it is not a product for me, although a very appealing concept. Thanks for testing it for a week to tell us the limitations and uses. I cannot really see the target for this product, as you have to be kind of a professional to handle the system .... but at the same time, the real professionals will not use this probably and will have other types of cameras with a focus puller.

    • @MichaelEgglerFilms
      @MichaelEgglerFilms  3 года назад

      I think the Float has its place in both enthusiast and „professional“ shooting situations. Cameras are getting more compact all the time while image quality increases. And I don‘t see how this shouldn‘t apply to other parts of filmmaking gear as well :)

    The problem with these hybrid steadicam - gimbal set up is that you still need deep steadicam operator experience (1 or more year) so that your hip's movements don't transfer to the arm. Yes the up and down z-axis movement is reduced or eliminated but now you are transferring hip movements into the arm. This is perfect for an experienced steadicam operator but not a novice.

  • @josephsavage1540
    @josephsavage1540 3 года назад

    How do you find it helps in regards to the weight distribution of heavier setups?
    I use the bmpcc6k pro on the rs2 and although it's incredible, i find after a few hours of shooting that my back is in bits.
    Ideally this would help distribute the weight a little better.

    • @MichaelEgglerFilms
      @MichaelEgglerFilms  3 года назад

      I find that it moves the weight from the upper part of your back to the lower/core. And that is generally more comfortable. It‘s not perfect but definitely beats running around with an RS2 „handheld“. With the Float, it‘s more a question of exercise where as without, it‘s a question of pain tolerance😅

    Nice review. Thank you. Can you please advise, is this a good product to you if a person is a wedding videographer, that requires to get in and out of a car and go to different locations in a day. After it gets balanced can a person put on a vest and start using it quickly, OR do you need to rebalance it every time? I personally need something for Z axis, walking and most importantly I want to remove the weight of the camera from my hands. What do you advice on this?

    • @MichaelEgglerFilms
      @MichaelEgglerFilms  2 года назад

      Well if you keep the vest on and leave the post as is (and maybe put it in the trunk of the car) this will work like a charm. But as soon as you change something on the setup, you will need to rebalance all over.

      Thank you! Well this was shot on a Ninebot with the RS2 and the Float after we tested the whole setup for 15 minutes or so. I think it has nothing to do with the Float. This is rather not too smooth from the operator side and has a lot to do with the dead band settings.

    Many thanks for the very good Video. I learnded a lot from you 🙂. I got the Float too but I struggle with it. I have always small wobbles from walking in it. No matter what i do. Walk slow... it wobbles slightly....walk fast....it wobbles too. Just slightly but there are some small wobbles to see. I think that i blanced it right. Put the Floatarms horizontly. Do you guide the Post or the Arms with force to right direction/framing? Did you have some issues like me or come it right out of the box? Many Thanks

    • @MichaelEgglerFilms
      @MichaelEgglerFilms  2 года назад

      Hi! Thanks for your comment and the kind words. I think almost all the magic happens in balancing. I balanced it in a way that I have to use minimal force for any adjustments. The other key is to walk carefully and steady and have good control over your hip movement. Maybe mount it slightly higher/lower in your case? Also keep in mind that this takes practice. I‘ve used glidecams/gimbals for years and probably have a decent „feeling“ for this type of gear. Good luck my man😎

    • @MichaelEgglerFilms
      @MichaelEgglerFilms  3 года назад +1

      Thank you Karol! I only used my smartphone in this scenario because it worked so well with the cams, but the mounting option on the float allows monitors like the Ninja V. You can of course use the Nucleus wireless focus units from Tilta. There is a switch on the thumb control where you can change between DJI focus and Tilta. However you have to be quite the multitasker to be able to do everything at once. To be honest - I am currently not fast/experienced enough for all of this😅

      @@MichaelEgglerFilms Thank you for replay! I think about this setup in the future (Komodo+float+nucleus) so it's good to know that I can mount all that stuff. The other idea is gimbal + easyrig but I need to do some more research, rent eq, test it in real life scenerio and so on.
      Extra question: Can you mount transmiter on the float? (for focus puller)

    • @MichaelEgglerFilms
      @MichaelEgglerFilms  3 года назад +1

      I think the main difference between a setup like the Easyrig and the Tilta Float is that the Easyrig does better at distributing weight but the Float will stabilize your footsteps much better. I think you can mount a transmitter on the DJI RS2 (Raveneye or others) and then let a focus puller do his/her thing. General rule of thumb: whatever the RS2 can handle will most likely work with the Float🤙🏻

However I probably wouldn't trust this setup to hold the Tilta Float post with an RS2 and a decent camera setup, because of the payload capacity of "only" 6kg on the spring arm. So if one doesn't have the Raven Eye, how hard would it be to focus and track, tilt and pan at the same time with the Float?

    • @MichaelEgglerFilms
      @MichaelEgglerFilms  3 года назад +1

      Well you need some sort of wireless focus pulling system and most likely also videotransmition, unless you are incredibly talented at eyeballing things😅 It‘s doable for sure but takes a lot of practice. I personally rely on a focus puller or autofocus with these kinds of setups. What would be your rig?

    • @levidaragiu
      @levidaragiu 3 года назад

      @@MichaelEgglerFilms well, the goal is to get my hands on a FX6 or Komodo and the Float combined with the RS2 gimbal. I still wonder if applying a matte box on the lens using this setup isn’t too front heavy and if it’s something that you would practice or just rely on the internal ND of a FX6 for instance.

    • @MichaelEgglerFilms
      @MichaelEgglerFilms  3 года назад +1

      I just today received the Polarpro Basecamp Mattebox. Might review it in some form or way. This seems like a super lightweight solution for a mattebox. If I had to choose between FX6 or Komodo, I‘d go Sony every day of the week. But that of course depends on your line of work.

    Hello, friends, while watching your video, in the part, blackmagic pocket 4K, I noticed that you have connected the RavenEye with an external SSD card.
    Can you tell me, if it is the SSD card that is recording or an internal XSD card or Cfast 2 card.
    If it's the Samsung external SSD card with the RavenEye running, can you tell me how you got it plugged in at the same time as the RavenEye on the pocket 4K.
    I'm looking for how to do it and I haven't found it yet.
    Thank you in advance for your answer.

    • @MichaelEgglerFilms
      @MichaelEgglerFilms  3 года назад

      The Raveneye is connected via HDMI to the Pocket 4K and the USB C port is used for the SSD. This means you‘ll have image transmission and Active Track but no camera control through the app. I think this is a decent compromise.

    Hello, I watched your video on the Tilta float and I saw that at the scale everything is ok.
    I also did the scale on the horizontal and the dial is in the middle.
    On the other hand, when I turn to the right or to the left, the return is very fast towards the center with a spring effect.
    can you tell me if you ran into this problem too.
    Small precision when I put the plate vertically does not stay straight.
    I have a hard time balancing the pan.
    My main problem is the duration from left to right in 1-2 seconds in a fluid way.
    On the other hand, the screen is in the center placed upwards. But no smooth 1-2 second feedback.
    Too fast with a spring effect.
    Can you give us a little detailed tutorial just on the balance on the tripod with the balance from left to right, if you can if you have a moment devoted to us.
    This concerns part 5:17 of your video (How I Balance the Float )
    Thank you in advance for your answer.

      Hi there
      Sorry to hear you having troubles with the balancing. I currently don‘t have the capacity to make another in-depth tutorial about it unfortunately. RUclips is just a hobby for me currently. However:
      1) make sure that the Float display stays in the middle first by adjusting the lower rails (where you have your V-mount batteries)
      2) and then adjust the 1-2 seconds drop only using the top rail. That‘s the way I figured works best for me since you don‘t fiddle around with the total balance of the Float that way but only change the „drop-time“.
      Hope that helps, cheers!

      I am confident to say that with quite a few days of exercise, you‘ll eventually get to the point where you can operate this system without micro jitters.
