    Converting this light to LEDs, while fully preserving its original character, is no easy task, but the joy of modding will prevail.

    Hi Matt. Excellent piece of modding as always. Bearing in mind that that I had some of those tin flashlights sometimes made by Pifco, Eveready etc, when they were new. The lantern ones were quite good. None of them used to flash at the same rate. This is of course because it was the bulb itself that flashed on and off. This was I believe due to bi-metal action within the bulb. It was great fun as a child in approximately 1960 (I was 8yrs old), to go exploring around the house and garden. Using these old torches various types. Some of them had different colours. These were operated by sliding switches that moved, normally tubular red or green shades up or down covering the bulb from the reflector. The middle of the lens had the centre covered so no white (I use the term loosely of course) could escape. The switch arrangements were pretty good. There was a flash button or also known as morse code button that had to be held down whilst a slider switch was slid into play locking the button down, which was sprung loaded, and would pop up again once it was released.
    Thanks for the trip down memory lane mate.
    Oh, by the way, I do enjoy watching your videos.
    Thanks again.

    NICE! a now deceased friend had a affinity for OLD flashlights like you. With a collection of 300 or more. On his passing his sister kept 3 donated the rest to a museum. I don't know where 😥. You look as excited as he was upon his return form a fleemarket garage sale with a new treasure. Keep enthused and happy thanks for the information.

    Awsome! Taking something old like that and turning it into a LED light is so nice. I just baught a dropp in led for the light I got when I was a child. It was just a giveaway from my mothers bank but it was a great two c cell light and I kept it safe for 30+ years...

    Your videos always put a smile on my face, comfy video with great enthusiasm. Flashlights these days are space age compared to old flashlights, even a decade old is not even comparable, I guess that can be said for most of tech GPU's, CPU's SSD's, the progress still blows my mind whenever I build a new rig. We're in unprecedented times.

    Mr. Smith,
    I've been a fan for some time now. I just wanted to say thanks. I really thought I was the only one fascinated/collecting flashlights. I guess, in retrospect, my Father gave me one when I was very young, that's when it must have started. One day, maybe a year ago I searched youtube for like minded individuals. Lo and behold, your site popped up and I felt less compulsive about my inordinate amount of time collecting flashlights. I enjoy your site immensely.

    I love your videos! One tip to make sure your round stock is straight is to clamp the stock loose, use a ballbearing mounted on a bar in the toolholder. Run it really slow and advance the bearing until it runs true.

    I got those cheap zoomie Amazon flashlights. I found out the hard way some are wired in parallel & some series. The parallel actually is brighter & I'm guessing these used a better chip. However it sucks that these need to be charged in the light (No data on the battery). Any ideas on how to mod the circuit to use series? I already burnt 2 up trying.

    I found a vintage BIG BEAM TELEDYNE MODEL:166 FLASHLIGHT at a newly opened business in my home town that sells ANTIQUES. I asked the store owner if the flashlight worked and she said she did not know but it looked to be in very good condition and after inspecting it closely and seen all the components were in excellent condition so I seen no reason why it should not work if the bulb was good and if I could get a battery to fit.
    I BROUGHT it home and took the insert out of the PLASTIC MADE IN CHINA FLASHLIGHT I Purchased from DOLLAR GENERAL. The DOLLAR GENERAL FLASHLIGHT uses 1 big square battery or
    4 AAA 1.5 VOLT BATTERIES that are installed in a adapter that comes with the flashlight... and to my surprise I pushed the on/off button and it came on.

    Just a question with your temp testing at 0.3A. It seems like you just turned it on and you took the temps immediately but maybe you cutout the inbetween video segment. It wasn't obvious. I'm just surprised with that much heatsinking, you can't do more than 0.3A.

      Snarky, I am using Atmel Studio 6.2. with an Atmel MKII. They are the only tools I have every used. Atmel 6.2 was pretty easy to learn for just flashlight code and editing existing code. Sadly I have never been able to get it working correctly on windows 10 so I keep a windows 7 pc in the house for it. Atmel Studio 7 is even worse, it works with nothing ever, at all, even a little bit LOL.

    Hey, you didn't mention what voltage it's running at. Did it originally have a 6 volt lantern battery and you're using 8 D cells to produce 6 volts on the 3 LEDs? Or was the lantern battery 12 volt and the eight D cell batteries are all in series? I only remember 6 volt Lantern batteries. Where they also made in 12 volt?
    Also, was that single 7135 hanging in there even though they are only rated to 6 or 7 volts?

    • @Lumencraft-
      @Lumencraft-  6 лет назад

      It's 8 series (9.6v). I think the lantern battery would have been 6V. There are 2 bulb types that are "for" this light. The ones I got were 6.2V so waaaaaaaaaay over driven with my D cells in there. I had to put 2 dummies in for the factory beam shots.
      The power went out at my house while I was editing this video, so I ran it a few hours then, so far so good. I don't think the 7135 chips will be a problem. Back before the zener mod was invented we used to run these using what was called the "poor mans multilux setup". Basically running 3 leds in series buy putting the driver AFTER the first LED.

  • @averagerider92
    @averagerider92 5 лет назад

    When I removed a 7135 from a qlite, seems like one of the pins is detached from the chip itself, so instead of 3 pins on one end, only 2 stay on. Is this normal? I need to move 7135s from one side to the other so the retaining ring sits flush on the driver on an s2+

    • @Lumencraft-
      @Lumencraft-  5 лет назад +1

      Sometimes the chips can break. I use flux on them, and get a fairly large tip on my iron so it makes as much contact all at once as possible. Getting the whole chip hot quickly helps reduced force on it so fewer chips break.
