I have a mix of feelings after watching this video. First, I think you should get a Nobel Prize for the flashlight mods you do. Second, I think you should get a gold medal for your bravery on what you did to such a cool light such as Giggles without knowing what the end result would be. So if you add these two points together my conclusion is that you are somekind of a mad flashlight genius, A - MA-ZING! Thank you!
5:32 Sick vape mod bro. Kidding, Holy smomes I didn't realize that was so big. The last time I saw something on Cree LEDs I think I saw one about half that size, this was ages ago. Thank you for sharing this video with us.
About the reflector: the diameter of the reflector has to be at least 10 times the diameterof the LED to prevent that donut pattern. I have done a lot of reflectors with a 3d printer, and now I understand that the LED must be small compared to the reflector if you want to get the pattern that you want.
exactly, he`s missing the point: you use only one LED when you want to make a monster tight-beam thrower . But when the LED is too big it`s impossible to create a tight beam. You can get ~ 100 watts from a HaikeLite MT03 TA Devourer that has 3 XHP70.2 LEDs at $100 and 3 reflectors. In theory you can get a tight beam with a big LED like CXB3590 if you use a big glass lens instead the reflector, but the LED has to be far enough from the lens (orelse no beam) and it will lose a lot of light ( a led that type emits almost 180 degrees spread)
@@himanologanor4093 I believe they have 90°, 60° angled lenses. Have you seen the video with the 150,000 lumen flashlight? Several COB's w/lens on each(maybe 8-12 COB's, each with spherical lenses). Also, very little light loss through lens(2%?), from what I've heard from indoor gardeners, who use 8-100W Cree CXB-3590's for a 5'x5' space. Mostly 1000W HPS lamps, have been used as highway lights(150,000 lumens), while the shorter poled street lights use 600W HPS lamps(95,000 lumens), but have a orange tint/glow, to give an idea of how dang bright these COB's are, and how much of a better spectrum! And some LED's are putting out 160 lumens/watt! Very bright, full colors, and replacing the HPS lamps as street lights, as they're about double the efficiency of HID(High Intensity Discharge) lights(HPS(orange tinted-2200°K color)and MH-Metal Halide(very white, slightly blue tinted, often used for gas stations, convenience stores, security lights-6500°K color). K-Kelvin(temperature it takes Tungsten steel heated to put off that color of light. So an orange/yellow tint(more efficient), or cool/blue tint(less efficient). I've seen COB LED's from 2700°K, 3000°K, 3500°K, 4000°K, 5000°K, 6000°K, and 6500°K. Probably more! But much better color spectrums, last 10X longer, much less heat/more light than traditional HID lighting. But you may know all this, so forgive my rambling.. Have a great weekend!
don`t worry, i`m 100 times crazier than you when it comes to flashlights, i only have some things to add, everyone wishes a tight thrower and it`s not about the right colour there cause you can`t use that for photos. I know guys that can`t stand the blue tint but they are than the same that fall down when you use the strobe, so i guess it`s about brain wiring. Lastly i can`t use a huge lens cause of the weight, and same about the power, it`s only that much accu weight that you want to carry. So i`m forced to stay with my ACEBEAM X45 and its form factor : soda can accus and a nice beam reflector that in the end can fit inside a jackets pocket.

I think the amount of labor involved will not make it worthwhile. It is super amazing project light no doubt but not meant for business. You can get an MT09R that performs about the same in terms of lumens and throw for much cheaper than the labor cost required to mod the GT but probably the heat sinking on the MT09R is not as good as the on the GT and shorter run times.
I'm sure it's true that it would make it an expensive proposition, and there are cheaper alternatives... but just in the same way that people spend 10's of thousands of $$ on classic cars, when essentially any new car would be better in every measurable way... I can't imagine what that thing looks like in person! The camera can't doit justice even though it still is absolutely insane to see how much it lights up! A bit of a concaved lense or like a magnifying type lense just a small one help the donut when it's on low maybe? Idk if you have seen them but on older bigscreen TV's with the RGB bulbs they have the most amazing and clean magnifying lenses on them to project on the mirror of the TV. I took a few of the and held it up to my cellphone light and it makes a beam that will go for all the way up the street to my neighbors house witch is about two house down and across the street. Idk how far that is just picture couple house and a street and this is from a cellphone led! Phone LEDs suck lol. Idk I'm rambling but those lenses to us in different things are really quite amazing I have found. Just wanted to share with everyone is all!
It's great that there are so many of us into lights. I'm not a BLF member but I've been around there for years, Been with CPF for years also. Every time I get a new light everyone around me is like "seriously?... Wtf do you need that much light?" my reply is either I cause or I just throw on turbo and smile 🤣🤣🤣 Love my floody lights more than throwers but several of my floody lights throw far enough. In my head it gets to a point where a light throws so far it's absurd and doesn't really help unless your helping out a mountain climber at night from atop a different mountain. Flood though, you press a small button and purge darkness wherever you face the light. I've gotten to appreciate my smaller lights like my crappy XHP-50 warm wizard pro(I say crappy because the electronics problems have been an issue for 4 of them..) my new favorite even though it's cool white.. Would be my nitecore E4K and for the size it is mind blowing how bright it gets. My ultimate favorite is my Incan collection of rare/hard to get lights like my ASP Triad, my larger Half Mile Ray handheld, and some pentagonlights. Second time I've seen this vid but the first time I've left a comment for you 👌😎👍 don't leave scars on your retinas
I suggest selling the "mule" with a choice of several heads. A focused thrower, diffused washer large source, and one or two in between. That reflector looks like you had this in mind. I Much prefer a "knob" that turns, most people do. Direct feedback. _Really,_ try tossing the clickys on a pro style light. They would fit great in the tail with shoulders for protection. Or a low profile type turn knob at the neck. With knurling it would work fine. It would be a massive leap forward for flashlights. Toss the button! I've got lots of old stock Alco if you're interested, I'd be glad to help.
It will be very hot for sure and isn't able to output this power over a long time. Speaking of time: As we say he is driving the COB-Led on a forward voltage of about 36V @3,2A of current (=115,2W) and with the efficiency of about 90% this is drawing 128W at full power. the batteries are 8x18650 with 3500mAh each (for example i assume they really have 3,5Ah) so they have 8 x 3,7V (nominal voltage of each cell) x 3,5Ah (capacity) = 103,6Wh of energy. so we can say they can power the unit for about 103,6Wh / 128W = 0,81h..a bit over 48 minutes. I hope this will help you, have a nice day
Yt brought me here beacause that led its made for horticulture in my case for growing weed indoors. The really awesome adaptation and incredibly powerfull light that u have made, make me feel useless as a human being. Such a genius mind!!!
He refurbished a previous light he had. Probably not too hard w/a shop like that! He then explains, and shows the whole process, except soldering the chip in place, where the tiny chip had been removed. They have solderless chip holders these days as well. Cooling is VERY IMPORTANT, and he explains this, but dosen't mention using thermal paste, or a thin piece between the chip and board with the paste spread well, or piece well, to heat sink/fan for lowering temps.

There ARE however legitimately bright LED flashlight you can get from reputable companies. 1lumen has a real list containing the brightest reasonable flashlights for each category, immediately following with the top 5 brightest overkill manufactured flashlights in the world! The only light I feel should have had honorable mention on there is the brand-new 14,000 lumen Emisar D18 for only $100, which I plan to buy soon.
Better yet send it to me!
AWESOME, thx.( Sorry about the donut at lower power). Otherwise, it's like a massive flood lamp. It would be really great if we could dial it in to just focus a straight concentrated beam that would easily reach that hotel or apartment building across the water. 👍🌟☀️
"only one problem guys...batteries don't last so good..."
"Oh Data!! "
I'm proud to inform you that you've been accepted into the Evil Genius Club we're super excited to have you and expect great things from you obviously we'll eventually be in touch keep up the good work
Your level of Engineering is absolutely outstanding! Awesome video!! What's the runtime on it with the lumens at Max? Toby from England
That is one bad ass flashlight, well done.
A new moniker for the modified GT; let's call it the "Daymaker".
9:15 - Very nice shot: The creation and breaking of a faux 4th wall!
"that just looks deadly to me like it's gunna just destroy some darkness" :D
U look so humble but knows so much 😂 goodness me if this is sold somewhere id be glad to join the queue
You should put a drone up above and really see how far the light throw is!
Aliens...
@Aarons117 lol even more reason to 😆
Either that,.. or they all might be rushing out to purchase six months supply of toilet papers. 😅🚽
Aarons117 stupid people. You must be in America
@@andreaswickman1508 Yep (sarcasm. I dumbed it down for you) So stupid.., here in America.., that our borders are flooded with illegals wanting to be here... in the land of the stupids? People the world over flock to our universities, or obtain degrees in other countries that improve their chances of immigration? You should watch the RUclips video about the Dunning-Kruger effect. "Why do stupid people think they are smart?" Learning about yourself could lead to a better life.
This video was suggested after the DIY Perks one with the 1500w led. This is impressive.
This just made me lol. I freaking love it. I'm jealous. The dinning room scene did me in. haha
Me too... it looked like he went into heaven...😂😂😂
I thought the same thing, he had risen to the heavens! Playing with all that power has permanently jacked his cortex. He is very intelligent however a little off, kinda like he's been shocked the hell outta!
Well, I guess two people already said what I was about to write!
Super Impressive!!!!
YOU ARE ONE SERIOUS FLASHLIGHT DUDE !!!!!
Had to think about this .... He just made a Dame hand held lighthouse 😲
You should sell them
I look forward to buy one from you Matt, interesting project for me.
I actually think it’s even more impressive as a flood... without the reflector!
Your a mad scientist with some serious skills
Very nice! How about mounting a Yuji BC160H into a Thrunite V6, Wowtac A4, Thrunite TN42, or the GT?
6:47 now that is a lizard tongue of techie pleasure!
13:10 Looks like he is holding the Sun.
Awesome video Matt learning a lot 🏆

Underrated comment
It's great that there are so many of us into lights. I'm not a BLF member but I've been around there for years, Been with CPF for years also.
Every time I get a new light everyone around me is like "seriously?... Wtf do you need that much light?" my reply is either I cause or I just throw on turbo and smile 🤣🤣🤣
Love my floody lights more than throwers but several of my floody lights throw far enough.
Me: I am obsessed with torches!
You: Hold my Beer.
I can only sum up this video in one word with my limited vocabulary ,AWSEOME!!! Great build . Thanks for sharing.
people must think you have some kind or army surplus anti-aircraft searchlight.
Nice work
Classy
Who needs the sun when you've got that?
Awsome job bro😮 now i want to see this trough a magnifying glass
How long before the light overheats?
I suggest selling the "mule" with a choice of several heads. A focused thrower, diffused washer large source, and one or two in between. That reflector looks like you had this in mind. I Much prefer a "knob" that turns, most people do. Direct feedback. _Really,_ try tossing the clickys on a pro style light. They would fit great in the tail with shoulders for protection. Or a low profile type turn knob at the neck. With knurling it would work fine. It would be a massive leap forward for flashlights. Toss the button! I've got lots of old stock Alco if you're interested, I'd be glad to help.
Only issue would be water. Imagine there's a fix for that.
Some questions:
- How hot does it get when it's on?
- How long do the batteries last?
Good question..
Jeez ,you'd of been confusing those plants/trees with that thing they thought it was mid day sun , infact it almost reminded me of British summer time
full sunlight is up to 100.000 lux, so.... not even close.
@@cthulpiss it was a joke, get a personality
@@scottmckelvie6253 it is tiresome to hear that factually wrong "joke" about flashlights all the time.
Dude you're insane. I love it.
Please, please, please put a bat symbol on the front this massive LED..and shoot it to a cloud....lets if he shows up!!
Hey also a windows logo to see if Bill gates's helicopter shows up!
@@Alexander_l322 lol
You know Dan Lok is Batman, right?
Congrats, you have turned giga thrower into giga flooder. Fantastic work there, mate.
That is a Beast.. what dose a light like that go for???
I dont think he has the time to spare to build these for other people.
Now imagine buying 100 of those emitters and making a giga-juggernaut flashlight to blind the aliens.
Careful! You will be blinding the guys in the space station with that thing!!!
