- Boeing has reportedly issued a safety advisory to airlines after a LATAM Airlines Boeing 787 Dreamliner experienced a sudden mid-flight drop en route to New Zealand. According to preliminary reports and findings, the unexpected plunge of the 787 could have been triggered by a flight attendant inadvertently activating a switch on a cockpit seat.

Well, you definitely want the seat to recline when you have visitors in the cockpit...

The "runaway" seat doesnt explain the sudden drop in altitude especially knowing that the seat moves very slowly (electronically)..
it has todo with the weight and balance XD . those seats are heavy 🤪
I thought it has moved slowly forward pushing the pilot into the yoke column.
Buuuing :
Hold my profits...and screwdriver...
I pray for the Speedy Recovery & well-being of that seriously injured passenger. 🙏
It is fortunate the plane didn't vanish !
But don't those switches have covers?
Yes, the issue from my understanding is that the switch can be engaged in certain situations even when covered. So if the cover has loosened or otherwise lost rigidity, it could flex causing unintentional actuation
Fr Dougal Maguire was in the cockpit again
If I am not mistaken, news have surfaced that the pilot of the incident aircraft walked to the cabin afterwards and mentioned to the passengers that his instruments went blank for few moments during the dive. How is this related to the inadvertent movement of the pilot's seat via the rocker switch on its back?
Yeah, this has gone quiet. Whether the pilot said that or the passenger was the one playing Chinese whispers when talking to the press will have to be addressed.
Could be that the displays are only readable at certain angles, like older flat screens. This might explain it, but who knows.
@@jantjarks7946 probably 😂
The FA hit it by mistake which pushed the pilots seat into the yoke and this disconnected the AP and the plane dropped by like 500 feet
That's why hearsay is not evidence
*Is the seat that fast?*
Not from what I've seen.
I don't think it was the speed, I think it jammed in the moving forward position.
Bro.. people are seriously injured and you’re making jokes like that? Not cool bro
You’re right. I don’t believe the seat story or the blackout story.
Does this include official Boeing sticky tape to apply to the cover of switch to keep from accessing the device? Better use tape instead 4 bolts.
Calhoun & board needs to be FIRED and CHARGED for their profits first, build speed second, lobbying third, bribes fourth and safety last.
I have been a qualified glider pilot for 23 yrs and every now and then our instructor would say let's go for a fly in the dual seater being called a Banick (all aluminum glider)
we got off the aerotow at 2000 Ft then struck good lift we which took us up to 8000ft. weather conditions were 34c hot day with mild cumulus cloud, as we were flying towards another cloud. on a straight direct flight suddenly, we lost all instrument reedings the vireo went directly to negative to lift and the sound of wind immediately stopped.
the aircraft went from 8000 feet to 6500 ft in seconds, I had No control over the aircraft and then Instructor in the back seat went to take over when the glider hit air.
when the glider hit air there was just an almighty sudden stop or thud to the aircraft, the instructor said that was an air pocket. and he had only been though an air pocket ounce when he was in the Australian Airforce flying the caribous. we completed a normal landing immediately to ensure safety to ourselves but to also check the aircraft aluminum frame for damage.
I stand to be corrected but I strongly feel that this is what happened the Latam 787 Plunge as all the indications of the comments that the pilot stated points to an air pocket and correct me if.
I am wrong but I believe the avionics (Radar) of airliners of today cannot detect air pockets and when you do some research into this phenomime they are not really classed as air pockets but more like wind shear and thermal shearing forces.
Quote
The term "windshear," meanwhile, is used to describe a "sudden change" in wind velocity. This immediate change in wind speed or wind direction happens over a relatively short distance in the atmosphere, and can occur at both high and low altitude, according to the Aviation Admin.

At the end of the day had all passengers been wearing their seat belts there would have been less injuries and that goes for all passengers in all commercial airliners and let's give praise to the pilots and flight crew in command as they done a fantastic job controlling the 787
Long haul passengers need to keep there seat belts buckled when the plane is in the air
Good advice.
I always do
Not just long haul - turbulence can hit any flight. There's a reason that they tell you to keep you belt loosely fastened at all times when seated.
You should do that regardless of the flight your on… short haul or long haul..
that flying high scene comes to mind... no ¡¡¡¡
Let’s see what comes out from the investigation, in the meantime I think it make sense to remind airlines to check this switch
Now what? Boeing connected the seat switch with the MCAS?
How many whistleblowers are on board?
None, they are all still alive...
Was the seat that fast 🤔.
And wasn’t the plane in auto pilot , because if the yoke was pushed down wouldn’t that oppose this input 😏
Lot of stuff doesn’t add up 🤗
Flight attendant trying to get some more room :)
If that's the case it should be moving backward. Voted dumbest joke of the week.

@@Legendendearof course you haven’t. You haven’t heard of their flight control computer issues, winglet cracking or A321 engine coping issues. However, they are there.
Initially I thought that they are lying again but now I think the passenger just interpreted what the meaning of “my instruments, I just lost them” meant and added his own interpretation on top of it. Just another demonstration of how flawed the eye witness testimony is.
In other news, the Boeing employee who issued the advisory was found in his car with self-inflicted gunshot wounds to the head.
You're soooo funny, I can hardly contain myself from yawning.

Time to install cameras in the cockpit to erase any doubts in the future
I think the systems in the plane actually rebooted, and due to this the pilot and the flight attendant were startled, causing the switch to be pressed.
nope
What the hell are you talking about lmao
The flight attendant screwing up the plane theory is VERY convenient to Boeing, isn`t it?
Another day, another lie. 😮💨
the 1st officer doing what??! eatin fleartin ?! lol
You could not pay me to fly on one of these aircrat
Here's the safety advisory Boeing should give: "stop flying Boeing"
If the stewardess, giving the captain liquid refreshments, touches that switch thus pulling it back, and any passenger flushes the rear most toilet commode within 90 - 120 seconds, and the factory assemblers at Spirit Aviation forget to install any of the four wing nuts, then the wings will be blown off, though but only if the aircraft is flying at over 25,000 feet.
The oxygen masks will not deploy and the rear most exit door will get locked out of service.
Passengers are advised to reference the bible, koran, or buddhist sutras provided in the front seat pocket in front of them for further instructions.
Good luck! Thanks for flying on Boeing airplanes.
Any UFO sightings in that air space on that day?
Nah, it was Martians. Always the Martians trying to make poor honest and trustworthy Boeing look bad...
Honestly, if you look at videos of the seat function you would wonder wether the pilots were asleep.

Somehow I believe the stewardess were doing something crazy and kick some switch

the pilot said the screens went blank. all lie
Literally 0 evidence of this, it's hearsay
How would you know it's a lie?
Because you were carefully watching from behind?
They always start by blaming the crew and the airline. Maybe they are right this time but they have lost all credibility.
So the pilot lied
Average 787 😂
And Boeing TAKES NO NOTICE of any Safety Regulations.
Is the 737 max safe?
lol - good joke. Safe? You made my day bro ! Thank you.
NOPE
You decide
It isn't safe at all 😮
Yes. Theres close to 1000 of them flying around everyday No issue!..
and Boeing said the 777x will be safe?
really? i don't think so. its never getting certified at this rate.
Pilot was enjoying his shaft or Boeing is blaming crew for faulty aircraft.
Dc10:1124 deaths
737:5672 deaths 🗿
Now divide by number of flights per model.
At Boeing greed prevails over aviation safety 😮
Every passenger should sue the Cwrap out of them... if this had happened on approach they would all be dead... what utter rubbish design and development work.. followed by 4th rate assembly
And you wonder why your airline tickets are sky high🤦♂️🤦♂️.
No it would not because people are not allowed in the cockpit on approach, the switch was supposed to be covered and the FA pressed it by accident. The pushed the pilot into the yoke and disconnected the AP.
Guy. Theres 1200+ of these flying almost evryday withou issues! So settle down.
I like Boeing aircraft's especially 747, 787 and 777. They are the best and most comfortable. Human errors and airline maintenance are important for travellers so stop pointing fingers to Boeing for every instance.
