SP10 Written Review (more amps tested): bit.ly/3hKJJRD
Instagram: @stevehuffofficial
Today I review the MoFi SourcePoint 10 Speakers and while I almost returned them without a review, after some tweaking and changing of the amp they really impressed me. So much so, they are staying put for a while. These speakers are designed by Andrew Jones for MoFi and produce a sound that is alive, dynamic, detailed and with plenty of bass down below.
Are they comparable to my $20k Fleetwood Deville SQ? I talk about that in the review as well!
Enjoy!

Hey everyone! Thanks for the comments. My written review is almost done and in that I talk about using these with other amps that are much more affordable. I’ll have that up within a couple of days. I’ll also do a video follow up soon. Thanks and Merry Christmas to all!
I have the exact same subwoofer, was blown away when I upgraded to it, it is so tight! You feel it more than hear it, not boomy at all, just seismic!
Mine are on the way! Thanks for sharing your opinion.
Thank you for a very sensible review!
WRITTEN REVIEW IS UP: bit.ly/3hKJJRD
Great review In can’t wait to hear them!
I have been enjoying your reviews for over a year. I like your honesty. Thank you! In this MoFi review, you said, "when I first hooked them up." I am assuming there was no break-in prior to reviewing these. I was wondering how much play time it took for these to smooth out. Thanks again.
Thank you for your unbiased review. Nice to see you using the Rel sub for better sub amplification when needed.
One of the best reviews I have heard for a pair of speakers! Thanks for sharing your sincere impression. Not ready for new speakers yet, but will put these on my short list.
Really fine review. Thanks
I really enjoyed this review as I am looking forward to purchasing a set. I did wonder how they might sound with the Willsenton R8 and I discovered my answer in your written review which I appreciate your taking the time to include. The Willsenton is my only tube amplification but I do own a varied amount of solid state amps so I am excited to see which amp they blend with to my ears. I always look forward to your reviews for not only do I discover great gear but beautiful music as well. Thanks!
Tubes have a midrange magic that a solid state amp cannot reproduce.
Santa is growing on you lol!
Merry Christmas to you and your life partner! Wishing you all the best for 2023 🎉
Thanks , Merry Christmas
I just heard the mofi source point 10 and is an amazing speaker!
I also have the L595a integrated, and am curious your take on the ‘hardness’ you experienced using that amp. I have found it a sublime unit. Do you think the SP10 needed an amp with more power?
damn, can I travel to your place and listen to your stereo and speakers for a few days? your view looks so great and soothing, i think it sure has a positive effect on the sound
Never understood Phillips head screws used in high end speakers. There is much better hardware available. If you ever have to take a driver out the screw head paint gets chipped and the screw head often rounded due to the inferior design of a Phillips head.
cheapest pos fastener for the mfgs...why not right...maximize that profit...
Can't wait for the x250.8 review and comparison!
I heard these today at Florida audio expo. They sounded amazing. I want to buy them and replace my B&W 683 s2. Going to 2 way ok? Never though I’d consider this but the bass was deep. All being played off a $3k streamer / amp. Should I do it?
Yeah, of course. Audio matching is very important!
Really great and informative review. Quite affordable speakers for its performance. All gives a high five for its sound quality. Some day, in Europe, we might get them to a fair price. I do believe some audiophiles will tweak them, after they have seen the yellow cheesy crossover. But, the manufacturer might have picked really, high end, quality parts but forgot to change the color that calls cheap quality. Or? Looking forward to 2023.
Thanks for the Sourcesound speakers by MoFi. Your room space looks great and that would
be ideal for disco😄 ( you may not see this posting, but here goes)
The only thing I am concerned with is the change in sound you got with a change in amps- and achieving better sound with the higher watt PAS Lab amp. Also am wondering if the sub woofer is essential? I also like Dean Martin, etc. I use vintage Epi Tower 1000 speakers, 75” tall with 4-8” woofers in each.
I need no sub at down to 20 Hz. I use a Mac 252 amp. Would I be risking much time & dollars to consider a swap out to the Sourcesound?
Have no doubt these sound great to you but I would imagine the Pass labs amp would make a doorstop sound great. Would be nice to know what the speakers sound like with more price appropriate amplification.
Thank for the thoughtful review.
Curious if you still own them?
Given appropriate amplification, what would an ideal room size be?
I like seeing your place. Sound must be fantastic.
Funny you mentioned Dean Martin some of the capitol 50s albums are fantastic in terms of sound they sound so fresh today as when they were recorded if the mastering was done properly. I have the complete dean martin on the bear label
All analog recording, nothing digital in the path with those pre digital recordings
They sound like very gear dependent speakers. I'm terribly curious to hear the MoFi speaker and compare them to my ATC SCM 19v2's.
Looking forward to the Sourcepoint 8. more suited to my situation.
You should compare these to the Tannoy Revolution xt8f which also has a dual concentric driver. My favorit speakers and even below the price tag of the Sourcepoint10.
Thanks for sharing. Personally, prefer something smaller and hope Andrew will design a smaller one in the future.
Exactly. Let's see 5.25" - 6.5" version, and pair that with a REL sub.
There is a Sourcepoint 8 now...
I'd love to know how the Source Point 10s would sound driven by the Willsenton R8 🤔
How do they compare to Genelec 8050B or KEF Reference 1?
Will they pair nice with the Kinki EXM1+
Super Amazing with a matching highest-end amp. I would have described the Elac Adante by Andrew Jones exactly the same way.
No bass on the Adante, that was a failed experiment.
@@sturdyvw No doubt the amp didn’t it justice
Since these are so efficient, I wonder how these would sound with my Sansui G-8000.
Thanks for this!!!!
I see many references here to pairing these speakers with Class D amplification. That said, I wonder how the Source Point 10 would sound with a Rogue Audio Sphinx V3 (Class D)?
What are your thoughts in comparing these MOFIs with the JBL L82 Classic? Which ones sound better overall? Which one has the better bass?
Now you know why I think the X250.8 is just about the best amp I have ever heard. If there’s better, great, but the X250.8 is terrific enough to be a final purchase
Glad to see in the intro that you store albums in old crates. The proper way to store old vinyl.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I've heard these with a Rogue Sphinx amp and an inexpensive DAC and they were incredible. I see people saying "of course it sounds great with the Pass amp, it's $7000"; The Sphinx (stock) is $1700 I believe with the ability to roll tubes if you want. Also, you can put these on their sides rather than the traditional vertical setup. Give it a try, @SteveHuffHiFi.
Great review!
I don't think a more exciting speaker has come along in my lifetime.
The hype making it exciting for you?
@@YouSoundButtHurt It's the quality of the reviews, and "Andrew Jones". What other speaker do you know of that is similar?
I don't know any. I've been looking for a large format coaxial bookshelf speaker, and this is just perfect.
Where you born a few months ago?
@@bubblehead5394 Where you born? Wut?
@@bubblehead5394 Oh look, an out of place artifact.
Great review, very subjective, which ironically, if you like stats, is the perfect review for something that you listen to. If a system makes you want to dance, rhen that's a great system, regardless of price 😀
so you test speakers with dance music?
i am not joking seriously
I think that dance music is the best way to test the famous PRAT for a speaker
But no one use it because they are afraid not to be taken seriously
When comparing this speaker to the Klipsch Forte/Cornwall’s style of speakers, which ones performed best at low volume levels (68 DB range). (Approx 270 sq ft room)
I have a feeling the Klipsch are going to be superior in every way.
Where can l audition these in NYC??
The people who trash talk are usually the people that have had zero experience with the product.
Brilliant
Need to compare against Argon1
I see you tried them with super tweeters. Did you get the same improvement as adding the sub?
Funny how people are treating coaxial speakers like they are some kind of revolutionary thing.
Will the sound change after 100 breakin?
Do you have any slightly less expensive amplifier suggestions. Also I heard the stands are going to be $399.
These would sound great with PrimaLuna or Yamaha AS1200/2200.
Willsenton R800i or Line Magnetic LM88ia..
sending love and peace to everyone...
Compare with The JBL L100 and the KLH 5?
There were rubber pads in the boxes. I got mine about 2 weeks ago. These are amazing speakers.
Of course they're "amazing", you bought them.
@@YouSoundButtHurt Who hurt you? LOL.
The Klipsch Heresy’s have matched grain veneer. It’s pretty nice. Super soft though
I think the Heresy's have a pretty nice cabinet.
System synergy
The speakers & amp are one. They have too work together.
Original if they sounded thin then impedance miss match.
You don’t have too use an expensive amplifier as Long as it’s matched too the speaker.
If you want that speaker too sound even better.
Put a high pass filter on the 10” mid bass driver.
If you relive the first octive. Then half the excursion moment of the drive is halfed.
A lot less Doppler distortion
Frequency inter modulation distortion
Same as jitter intermodal distortion in DACs
Many recordings don't like speakers with lots of detail and clarity. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a spike in the upper frequency response.
Agreed. Exactly why a prefer a set up with detail present but leaning more towards a more natural/musical/ organic presentation. I’m exactly the same with headphones.
So what? If enjoy that sound it doesn’t matter
Being a point source speaker, I wonder if these will find their way as a monitor in recording studios.
I def think harbeth 30.2 used is the better way to go for the $. Target a decent used set for about 3750 usd
I don’t know.. I love the harbeth sound but i heard the source point 8 and 10 this weekend at Axpona and they were special. These were warm sounding, detailed and play with excitement.
These puppies VS Tannoy Eatons (FIGHT!)
These are over 5k in Canada. They seem intriguing but....
Notice you are using Red Dawns.....ever compare them to Valhalla's or above?? thx nice review
yeah, i don't get the matching stands not being available and/or making them a pkg deal... I've looked at every stand on Crutchfield and maybe one would work but was way too expensive but then it was too high for the placement of the tweeter...(33" at center per mfg)...so i guess i sit and wait for now.. thought about some bar stools I have that would work but who wants that look...
They should be thrown in for that price.
@@shiraz1736 earn more.
Would love to know what you listened to in that 5 hour session
Active speakers with DSP needs to phase out passive audio like EVs are phasing out ICE.
They're trying to apply phi as KEF does to shrink the voigt pipe down to even the size of a cantaloupe that sound better than speakers 300x the price. Unfortunately the lower the price the more crippled the device is but that also includes lack of qc which can be done on your own. The KEF 3001SEs if you find them with their series on as close of sequence as possible (they inconify 2 entire generations of KEF tech, look up KEF uni Q museum)
The source point here is designed to imitate the 3001SEs.
I wonder if the Wharfedale Linton stands would work with these?
Synergy is tough to achieve if you don't have a lot of time to analyze the connection; and there aren't a lot of dealers who will give you product to try at home. How can we really achieve synergy if we have "normal lives"?
Very sensible view on China. Well said, the reputable companies getting their components assembled in China these days are not out to burn their name. They're out to make their products affordable for us.
Try turning them horizontally , some have said it sounds better.
I'm curious how this would match up with a Naim Supernait 🤔
You will want a warm leaning amp for these to sound their best.
well I was skeptical but no more. well done. i own the elac dfr 52 and imo andrew rarely misses.
The very fact that the woofer moves in and out will affect the tweeters response
More like a great amp...
Noooo!!! I disagree that these would be $8K if made in the US.
Try them on the side I've heard the better
I'm assuming tat were will be no more photo reviews from you? Been with you for years - just a shame to see no more content.
The pains one has to go through to match equipment these days is kind of ridiculous. I won’t go through the endless search. It’s obsessive.
Audio equipment is usually cheaper in America. These speakers are priced at £4500 with the UK distributor. That's $1700 more for the same speaker. Pass labs Int-25 costs £7195 in UK, another $1400 more than the U.S. pays. I know there is shipping costs, import taxes and dealer margins all priced in but the American market seems to benefit mostly in terms of pricing.
Even more expensive in Ireland
unless it's Focal and some others from European mfgs...Focal is insane MSRP of 948s.. 3300.00 each...insane..
Eu and uk tax like a mofo to fund their woke policies like greta environment initiatives
10% import and 20% blame the UK government.
Always liked REAL British better, ever since my first pair of 57"s in 1971, Rogers LS 35/A's 1975, etc., all not made in China
Check Jay lab review on the speakers on RUclips
If you’re going to talk about what you paid for speakers, why don’t you tell us what you paid for the Fleetwood Devilles? I know you didn’t pay anywhere near retail and Weiss gave you a very favourable price to post a positive review…
All reviewers review the same dacs, the same amplifiers, the same speakers...
I'm starting to notice that as well.
Why wouldn’t they?
Great review….. beyond my means at this point but who knows…….
Great review, but I think you misunderstand the reasoning behind people's aversion about purchasing goods from China. It's a principled decision that you should look into.
Get 3 more of the same subs for max SQ
I was Made in China. Bless the PRC 🇨🇳
Try sitting them on their sides you will be surprised
And made in America with American know how and quality and to protect American jobs no doubt?
So why purchase the SourcePoint 10, if you need such an expensive amplifier pairing, kind of a failure.
I would guarantee you’d beat this combo with an integrated and floor standing speaker. Plus you might get something made in Europe instead of China.
$5259 in Canada …we get ripped off on everything hifi 😮
Us Australians get ripped off too. I can't find a price for the Mofis here yet but I know it's gonna hurt.
@@billybunter3753 is that because of higher taxes, or just gready middlemen?
@@Boban85 Both I would say, also our dollar compared to the U.S. dollar is weak.
Not sure what your point is, it’s because of the exchange rate which applies to all goods and has been around forever. They are also $5K Canadian, not $5259. Still a very reasonable price for what you’re getting here.
No, we used to get the short end in the 80s where things cost double here even though the dollar was close. The Canadian price for these are essentially the dollar difference.
I'd like to see a smaller version with maybe a 6.5" driver, which could be compared directly to the KEF LS50 Meta (which I use in a near field listening paired with a REL T/5x). Nice review.
Q B. Yes you can drive them with 20 watts. But you happen to leave out. IF YOU LIVE WITH GRANDMA
China makes all the best stuff
Ummm yeah, no
Get rid of that luxman 595! No seriously I don’t want it. Passed on it myself!
Yeah right, as if the Luxman was the problem here.
First off, it's Steve's favourite integrated of all time. So I'm not sure why he should ditch it because it didn't gel with a pair of speakers, that also didn't quite get along with a 300b set (despite being 91db efficient).
What i'd ditch would be a speaker that's seems to need 20k of amplification to sound right...
So listened to 2 of these Source 10 reviews thus far (Jays audiolab), and neither spoke anything about dynamics !! I'm guessing these poeple only listen to Norah Jones and Dianna Krall. I know nothing about how they sound with Bob Marley
One more thing, maybe you should try matching them with a Chinese Prima Luna amp.
I wish I had 4000 dollars to buy a pair of super high end speakers. I don’t even have 1500 in my checking account to fix my car. Lol most of my gear is entry level and older. Vintage Polk monitor speakers bowers and Wilkins 685 s2 old adcom and Rotel. And a 50 year old set of acoustic suspension speakers called audio analyst. And PSB speakers. All of this is entry level.
Don't sweat it! I have some fabulous underrated and under-priced 1700€ speakers. Badly recorded tracks sound a lot worse than on regular entry-level speakers. All of the flaws in the recordings stick out.
Was up?
Why would you have a bias of products made in China? Lots of reasons! Also, we don't have a choice with many things we buy. However, in High End Audio we have choices of where products are made.
Exactly...most of our hifi gear is made or assembled there
One reason I got the Heresy's, also my MoFi ultradeck turntable is US made. The Parasound is assembled in Taiwan.
@@DJ_BROBOT I don't own any Hi-Fi that is assembled in China. I have speakers assembled/made in Italy and England. I have electronics assembled/made in England, Sweden, Italy and Japan. I have wires made in the USA. I'm sure there are a few parts that come from China but much better than Made in China. At least I try. At least I care.
@@pnichols6500 I'd be fine with Taiwan. At least it's a Democracy, has better wages and environmental standards than CCP China.
Yippie is absolutely right. We don’t have a choice of so many items made in China that we need to buy but when it comes to audio we definitely do. I would never buy any audio component made in Communist China.
Wait till they are burnt in ...
