I am from the Appalachian highlands, the original source of this song; I have literally heard it all my life. This is one of the most original and impressive interpretations I have ever heard. The throat singing gives Death a creepy vibe that is unique and wonderful. Together with the straight singing, it is astonishing. Kudos!
It's been several years since I heard this song... and this rendition. I came back today because it is the absolute best version of "Oh Death" I've ever heard. Both of the brothers do an excellent job and capture the soul of both characters: Death - and a man longing for just one more year of life.
I've never, ever heard anything like Himalayan throat singing and Appalachian bluegrass combined. I'm pretty sure you two just did something new. Well done, wow.
I don't know why people are complaining about the throat singing....I have heard this style many times, and while it is inspired by Tuvan throat singing, it is not exactly Tuvan throat singing. I thought that it was wonderful to see such young people playing and singing this style of music...
I believe, as a musician and musicologist, the relative "complaints" may stem from the so- called "false claim" of throat singing. This is not throat singing, its more like a Heavy Metal style of singing, so to claim it as Tuvan throat singing is a false claim, and in today's negative environment, someone is going to get miffed, unfortunately. Personally, I thought it was a good rendition, essentially almost ruined by the faux throat singing. It could have been a great version without that.
Also if you read it again, I said I liked the rendition and was explaining about people's negativity tendencies, so maybe you could find a positive way to respond next time🤷♂️
At first start, I did not think I was going to like this but then yall captured me. I really liked it. It was Truly Eerie for sure, and gets a Good point across. Thanks.
I always like this song. And you guys made me love it. I just love your guys' version of it. The music is eerie, along with the epic throat music. Great idea whoever thought of it to use it as Death's part of the song. I do not know how many times I replayed this video. :)
This is frickin awesome.. I've seen some throatsinging before, but this combination was awesome, I'd pay to see a show performed by you two guys, that's how much I liked it.
Oh dear lord, my calendar dropped from my wall (what it does all the time) while I was listening this, and I'm pretty sure my heart stopped :D this song brings a certain mood around, and you have done a great job singing and playing it, and scaring the sh*t out of me for the rest of my day.
well done lads.....this is one of the best versions of this song i've ever heard. Im from big city England and this makes me wanna be from the american west
One clue would be if you listen to Dock Boggs' versions, both the 20s version and the one 40 years later. Dock had a voice like a buzz saw. But Dock never sang with sigit, that high whistling harmonic singing Kyle does briefly.
Excellent idea and execution. I love overtone singing and "Oh death." I never imagined someone would put the two together. Good job. I see the throat singer even has his Erhu in his hand.
Dude the video is 3 minutes and 33 seconds long..3:33....thats divine, just like this song. Its amazing how an old song like this can live on for hundreds of years.
beautiful job boys, kinda reminds me of home. Excelent job. Keep it up. You need more songs like this. I look forward to them. take care and God Bless.
Wow! that tequnique of singing is a lost art? I haven't heard in a long time since i was a very small kid, just hearing brings memory back of listening to my great uncles playing around. in the hills of West Virginia. Aloha u two for put this video out.
wow... I'm dumbfounded. In my 51 years I've heard a lot of music and have very diverse taste... But a new door just opened. It was ajar after Oh Brother? But now... Now I need to seriously explore. Thanks guys. Incredible.

Loved the throat singing. I got it down once while driving, and never again since. It was a crazy feeling.

Blind Willie Johnson used a related "false bass" vocal technique in his time.
