    I grew up in Lawrence County Ky. Up a holler called Pack Fork. We didn’t have a lot growing up in those days. My Cousins and a couple of Friends use to get together and play music together. It was a form of fun and relaxation. When one of us would learn another song, runs or licks we’d teach it to each other. I would rather much see a kid nowadays playing on a guitar or banjo or some instrument than playing video games.

      Thank you for sharing! I appreciate you watching and sharing your story. My grandfather grew up in Breathitt County KY, in a holler called Strong Fort. He introduced the music and the banjo to me.

    I grew up in Appalachia in a time when there was no TV, or much local radio, except on station. People worked hard in the rocky hills. Music was a reflection of the people.

    Not sure if you will answer here Tyler but that beautiful banjo look like a GT OB-300 modified to be a Arch Top ???? The OB-300 is one of my favorite banjo of all here. I see vintage color so is it always Gold Plated too because this is awesome beauty.

    • @tylerjgifford
      @tylerjgifford  6 месяцев назад

      Yes my friend, you are correct! This is an OB-300 that I threw an archtop tone ring in. The tone ring was from Gold Tone, so no modifications were needed. Just a little bit of work. It is gold plated and a beautiful banjo, doesn't get the love it deserves from me.

    Very nice, sounds a lot like Clifton Hicks' version. I find the juxtaposition of the archtop with the nylgut strings to be an interesting and unique sound. I'm kind of tempted to try that configuration on mine. Did you have to make any alterations to the shell to get that archtop tonering to fit? Also where did you get that tonering...is it the one on Goldtone's site?
    Thanks for this!

    • @tylerjgifford
      @tylerjgifford  6 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you greatly. I didn't have to make any alterations to the pot at all. I bought the tone ring from Gold Tone's site. It's the "11" Brass 40-Hole Archtop Tone Ring". I don't think a link would work on here, but just in case this is the one. goldtonemusicgroup.com/goldtone/parts/b1173

      @tomallison5029 6 месяцев назад

      @@tylerjgifford That link worked just fine. I think i'll pick that up and see if it will fit on my old Fender Leo.

    • @tylerjgifford
      @tylerjgifford  6 месяцев назад

      Give it a shot! If your truss rod runs through the tone ring it might be a bit of a pain, it it's still possible. If that's the case you'll just need to remove the coordinator rod and slide the ring out. The ring from Gold Tone that I have at least, doesn't have a hole drilled through it, but rather an arch that just slides over top of the coordinator rod. Very handy.

    Cool timbre from the Banjo. Fuzz and compression or does it just sound like that?

    • @tylerjgifford
      @tylerjgifford  6 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks! That's just how this one sounds, it's my project banjo. I think it's a combination of the archtop tone ring, Renaissance head, and nylgut strings. I think the resonator on the back gives it a unique sustain. Anywho, there are no audio effects at play. Just a mic plugged into a camera.
