My dad worked for the USPS for 30 years. One time, in New York, a lady came in yelling at him. Said her daughter's box was all wet and destroyed when it arrived in Florida 2 weeks after sending it thru the mail. She had mailed snow. Just snow. In a cardboard box.
Boy, I once had a customer tell me with absolute smile on her face that every store associate should know where every single item in the store is. Lady. most people dont even know where every single item in their department is! AND I WAS THE JANITOR!!!
I recently started as a food sampler at Costco, and get asked where certain items might be. I tell them if I do know, but if I don't and I say as much, most people are very understanding. We need more customers like that
@@greninjastorm6734doesn't help that they rearrange their items every other week or so all year round, even moreso during peak seasons. From what I was told by one of the employees at our local Costco, the shelves are actually "rented" out to companies who want to sell their products, so that often changes based on needs, demands, etc. Best way I can describe it to my mother, who's often frustrated with the rearranging of stuff she needs to buy, is it's like a venue at a comic book convention where exhibitions are set up.
Ah, yes, expecting someone to memorize thousands of products and their locations for non-livable wages. Tale as old as time. The absolute worst, though, are surprisingly not customers. It's the Shipt people and the Instacart people. They will march up to you, shove their phone in your face, and then want you to find everything in their order for them. 9/10 they are rude af. If their customers knew what absolute pieces of shit they were, I know most people would use alternative services (if available). There's one lady who's such a pain that I flee from her sight before she can make eye contact.
I once got told by a colleague who notoriously treats workers in shops and restaurant like absolute garbage that his reason is "I get treated horribly at my work, so it's my right to do the same to others when they are being paid to work for me". He seemingly has no clue that the reason why others treat him like shit might be because someone else did the same to them, before reaching for him. It's just feeding this circle of miserability in seek of unleashing your "revenge" towards someone who did nothing to you. If anything, being treated horribly at work is why I try my best to not be annoying to people working for me. I know how it feels like and I don't want to ruin their day as well.
Also, speaking of bad customer experiences, the one I'll remember the most to this day because it was my first job at McDonald's and I was in the drive-thru and a lady asked for extra ice in her drink. When I gave her her drink she lifted open the lid and I guess she didn't feel like there was enough ice in it. So she jammed her hand into the ice. Spilled her drink in her nice Mercedes vehicle. Just to tell me that if her hand can fit through the cup, there's not enough ice. Mind you she has a much better vehicle than I ever will and she's allowed to vote. That's the sort of people we have in this world and we just kind of forget that some of these people aren't all the way there.
Any sane and reasonable person takes being treated like shit by customers or coworkers as a reason NOT to be shitty to employees elsewhere - I’ve been treated like a tool or an idiot in a retail job, and know how much of sucks to deal with idiot and/or irate and/or rude customers, and how hard retail and other similar jobs like food service can be, so I take it easy and am understanding of others in those positions
At my old job I was stocking produce and I heard a woman to my left tell her kid to ask me a question. Five seconds later the kid asks "excuse me, do you guys have any artichokes?" I said "Oh no, sorry, they're out of season. We don't have them." That's when Mom pipes up and goes "WELL you guys haven't had them for WEEKS or MONTHS." Yeah... They're out of season.......... Every person I've told this story to has said the exact same reaction as I had: all equally frustrated and confused by my story lol.
The amount of times customers got so angry at me because a product was sold out is crazy. They personally attack you as if you're the one not reordering.
Fellow former produce associate here. I worked at a grocery store for just over half a year and had way too many bad customer experiences to have justified working there any longer. Customers need to understand that we just work there; we don't control the supply chain. If we can't find something in the back, THEN WE DON'T HAVE IT. It wasn't just my department; this kind of thing happened regularly storewide. I would say it probably happened more in produce than any other department because it is very difficult to manage the supply of perishable goods. Next time you can't find something in the grocery store, just keep in mind that it may not be the employee's fault. I'm not saying that it can't be their fault... there were several times when my coworkers definitely contributed to the supply deficit, but I always tried my best. The holidays are particularly hard for grocery store employees, so try to be mindful of them this upcoming Christmas.
honestly, the worst kind of situation is seeing a parent being... a "bad" parent. And now you're in an awkward self dilemma where you kinda want to speak up for the poor kid(s) or stay out of it 😔
@@DropDread honestly this is the reason I won't speak up. All it's gonna do is make the mom even angrier, and then her kids have to deal with THAT on the way home.
As a retail worker, please be nice to people over the next month and a half. It be a stressful and hectic time even if no one is screaming. Even a simple smile or thank you can make anyone's day.
At my old job, on my day off a customer that we frequently had problems with came in saying he got the wrong order. He never actually ordered anything, he just wanted free food, and he would do this often. We relented the first few times, but eventually we had to start checking for receipts before giving out food or remaking orders. On my day off, the guy came in and went through his usual complaint of how he got the wrong order and then proceeded to ask for like $45 worth of food. The manager asked for a receipt, he said "they never gave me one," so they turned him away. He got super upset and decided the best course of action was to slash all the tires in the parking lot. Real glad I didn't work that day, but I felt bad for my coworkers.
@@G0MBR0 Damn, well I'm sorry your coworkers had to do through that. I was hoping they got compensated in some possible way since that man acted completely childish.
@madibelleasher330 Yeah, they never got any comp for it, which was kind of insult to injury. They were understandably heated about the whole thing, especially since they were high schoolers working a fast food job. They didn't exactly have a whole bunch of money saved up.
Working in the healthcare industry is very interesting for customer interactions. I was an optician, and helping out a kiddo with their very first pair of glasses. Kid was super upset they even had to have some sort of correction. I finally got to a point where I was making this kid excited to see! She was able to find something she loved and fit her properly. And mom absolutely crushed her little soul when she said “I hate that color on you, and the shape is awful”, and going on and on about how bad it looks. Ma’am! Your daughter is FIVE years old. Already worried about people picking on her when she has her own bully at home. I finally said “Well, it isn’t about what OTHER people think, you’re the one wearing the glasses so if YOU like it, I love it!” People amaze me.
I saw a grandma shopping with her 8yr-ish granddaughter for clothes. The girl found 1 or 2 shirts she liked, and this grandma, in a super loud demeaning voice, kept telling her, "no I don't like that color." Or, "there's no pants that match or, I hate it it looks awful." The poor girl found some pants that were a 95% color match to the shirt and was excited. Grandma immediately shot her down bc SHE hated it. Grandma got mad and yelled that they'll shop at a different store to find something she (the grandma) liked. JUST LET THE KID WEAR WHAT SHE WANTS!
I work at an optometrist's office and we had a lady do that to her 18 year old daughter. Mind you, we close at 5 and they came in at 4:55 and the mom started laughing about how she thought we closed at 6. 🙃 Anyway, my coworker picked out these very cute and stylish frames that she LOVED and her mom just absolutely 💩 on them. To help her out, every single one of my coworkers chimed in to tell her she looked beautiful and her mom responded with, "well I guess I'M just not used to those shape glasses on YOU." 🙄 Her daughter went with that frame but her mom kept saying things like "so if she ends up not liking them then what?”. I don't even remember how the optician responded but weeks later her mom called again saying something about her daughter having an issue with her glasses and we ended up just calling her daughter because she was 18 and her daughter had no idea what we were talking about. So that was a fun interaction 😭
I've had a few bad customers. People who come in after closing and demand to be served, people who try to hit on you, people who try to convince you they know the manager and don't have to pay... It's difficult working minimum wage and having to stomach people demeaning you for fun. It can make you really sceptical of the public. But after one really horrible customer the next woman I served asked me if I was okay (because I had a breakdown in the bathroom and my eyes were still puffy), and when I told her I was having a bad day she asked me if I wanted a coffee. I said no, I was working alone and didn't have anyone to cover for me, and I apologized for looking a mess. She told me she forgot her wallet so she had to come back, and she did... with two lattes. I don't know if she did or didn't forget her wallet, but that coffee made a world of difference to me.
Ugh, people that hit on you. As someone who has had a drunk guy comment on my ass when I was 14 and just trying to help my gramma DJ for a wedding... I hate that one.
I worked at a Pet Shop for a while that has a dog wash: you bring your dog in, you wash your dog. We provide a tub that is huge, towels, shampoo and conditioner, and even a pet-safe blow dryer all for 15 bucks. It's honestly great, I go there to wash my dogs if they can't go to the groomers. We also had this card that we'd hole-punch for customers to give them 5 free baths, they just need to pay 50 dollars for it and bring it in every time they want to use it. This guy brought in his two dogs and he's been there before to wash them. I asked him before the bath if he wanted to pay now or afterwards, he said afterwards. Once he was finished, he came up to the counter to check out and I'm ringing him up. He then says that he has the 5 free baths card and just waits. It basically went like: "Do you have an Account with us?" "Yes! It's blah blah blah, and I also have that punch-hole card!" "Okay, great!" Holds out hand for the card... "... What are you doing?" "I need the card so I can hole-punch it." "I don't have it WITH me..." I had to explain to him that I need to SEE the card or else he won't get his free baths. He told his wife to bring the dogs in the car and instead was paying for both washes, so 30 bucks basically. He then goes on this rant about how we've never asked before, it should be in the system (hint, hint, it's not), and that he's never dealt with this before. I'm trying to explain to him how our policy works and he's just raising his voice, now yelling and swearing and insulting me... over a dog bath- There were other customers there too, the entire store just let him yell and I swear he was going to hit something LMAO Told my manager and she told me that she's gonna tell the other stores too so... Don't yell at simple retail workers, you might get black listed smh
Ride operator at a theme park here: The thing about height requirements is that they're completely out of our control. The people who make the rides are the only ones who get a say on height requirements, not us. After all, they're the ones who designed it and know exactly how it works. Just remember that if you, god forbid, yell at a poor employee about your little angel being too short, you're yelling at them for something they have literally ZERO say over.
Work at a KFC/Taco Bell. There was an older man (about 70+) who would always come in and tell clealry fake stories about how he "knew the colonel." He was relatively polite, but would constantly break up the ordering process and would continue to tell each story as I was trying to cash him out and correctly count change. Lo and behold, one day I was a single penny off regarding his change. Old man immediately lost it, started yelling at me, and tried to immediately have me fired. I still worked at Front Counter for a few months after that. Never saw him again. Haven't seen him the years since. There was also sour cream lady, who would inform us absolutely no sour cream was to be had on her items. She would always be very rude and forceful, and would always blame the register (usually me) if the order was wrong, regardless of if I did my job correctly and rang it up and informed TB Line. One time I watched the Line to make sure they were making it without sour cream. They made it properly. She still came up with sour cream on her burrito and told my manager I was completely incompetent. Manager asked her to leave.
"She still came up with sour cream on her burrito and told my manager I was completely incompetent" am I the only one thinking of Bubble bass from SpongeBob?
@@whyioughta178My mom met him as a teenager! She worked at a KFC. He set to work with the employees, complete with teaching them how he cooked his chicken. She says he was a nice guy. This was back in the late '50s.
People who do that strike me as being stuck in their early childhood. Like, really? You bring your own ingredients and hazards with you just to mess up your own order, as if anyone's going to believe you after they all just watched each other not make the mistake?
I work for a cell phone company in tech support. I had a customer call in because her Facebook “is not working”. I asked her what was going on she goes “I’m banned and I need you to unban me” I explain to her we don’t troubleshoot 3rd party apps and also if she is ban she will need take this up with Facebook. She then goes “you sold me the phone right” I go yeah and she goes “facebook is on my phone right “ and I’m like I suppose and then she goes “therefore Facebook is you issue to fix”I had to know what happened … so I asked how she got banned. She goes “ I got an ad for a black senator on my Facebook and I went to his fb and told him to get his (slur) ass off my Facebook” I explain to her again I don’t have the power to un ban her. She screams at me telling she will get the BBB involved and hung up. Old racist lady was nuts
I think it’s so funny that she thought it was your responsibility to unban her. The complete lack of knowledge about what phones actually do is both cringy and hilarious. Seriously though, the amount of people who lack this knowledge is concerning.
As a black person working at a tech support client center, I say you handled it way better than I would've. Sorry you have to experience that and I hope things get better for you!
I work at a haunted house, and occasionally there will be someone who tries to “scare” the workers first before they can get jumpscared (this usually takes the form of screaming at the scare actors, usually in the face). It is so INCREDIBLY frustrating. To anyone that goes through a haunted house house, do not scream in the scare actors faces. It may seem funny, but it usually just makes the actors uncomfortable and/or break character, which can ruin the experience for other customers. And the actors may be having fun scaring you, but we dont do it to be mean! Its literally our jobs! Also, fun fact lol, the number of people who say “good morning” in response to being jumpscared is higher than you think Edit: som other fun jumpscare responses include: - AAAAAHHH - HI - OH SHES REAL - DID YOU PRAY TODAY? - various swears (sometimes people genuinely apologize to me for swearing) - La la la! (In a sing songy voice. Yes, the dude looked really embarrassed afterwords it was HILARIOUS) - And that one kid who screamed EAT MY TISSUE on reflex - Also, people falling over and/or sprinting away are so funny lol Edit Edit?: default responses in a haunted house- For anyone curious, my default response is laughing. I have a friend who scream uncontrollably, a friend who speaks in Shakespearen english and poetry (or, alternatively, taylor swift references), a friend who is politely confused but a little scared, and a friend who always latches onto my arm like a blood pressure cuff (last time we gave him a stuffed animal) peoples default reactions are so varied!
That "good morning" response might be their brains going on autopilot. I've accidentally said "did you find everything alright?" out and about because that's my go-to intro when taking customers at the register
Working in a haunted house (or scary escape room in my experience) SUCKS SO BAD. People are unpredictable when scared. And yet, somehow, doing shit like that on purpose pissed me off even more.
@@SorenBlueHammer not when scared but for some reason, the other day it was in fact evening, after the afternoon, so what do I say to someone I walk past? "good morning" (it was almost 5:30 PM)
I’ve went through a haunted house once with a buddy of mine and instead of screaming in fear we would both just play it cool and every single scare actor that tried to scare us we would instead just be like “ahh you got me” and just have a smirk then just put up finger guns on em I was only truly scared pressured air that suddenly hit me
I had a lady call me a bunch of bad names while working Christmas Eve. we had just closed the store and I asked her nicely if she needed help finding anything as we do need to close the registers her response was to throw a tantrum and legit made me cry my manager then told her to gtfo and don’t talk to my workers like that I felt so seen and I haven’t left that place since. Bosses who are kind and understanding and stand up for you to Karen’s are the best kind. What one of them told me is we get paid enough to listen to customer complaints/have them yell at as, you guys get paid minimum and do not deserve that treatment especially during Christmas time
The worst customer experience I had was: I work in a dog daycare and we had 2 German shepherds boarding with us. Easy, no problem, they've boarded before. The second the owners leave the parking lot, after the dogs have been in play group for 20 minutes and have gone potty, the owners call us and say "by the way they both have giardia. We forgot to tell you that." Giardia is very contagious! We got the dogs out of group and they couldn't be in play group for the entire stay. The owners then asked US to pick up the dogs prescription for said giardia. Fun 👍
This is the dog equivalent of sending your kids to school, and then calling an hour later to say "by the way, my kids have covid, I forgot to tell you." Like BRUH...
Insane. Insane. I don't.. why.. how.. how dare.. I would be SO angry if my dog got sick because some piece of sh like that just dropped their sick dog off without warning. I'd be waiting for em at pick up, and I'm usually not confrontational...

I work at a grocery store, had a customer who stomped a bread flat because she couldn’t get a half one, luckily i’m in a management position. So i got to ban a 70 year old lady from the store. Best day ever. She even asked:”must be nice to have so much power” all i said was. “It certainly is”
My favorite was a customer that drop kicked a BBQ chicken into the roof on christmas eve because they were asked to pay for the bar of chocalate they were about to steal.
Stories like this are why I'm glad I've never had to work retail, food services, or the like. All of you hard working people deserve far better treatment. And bonus pay for the emotional labor you do dealing with such people.
Thank you! I work with my parents since they own a retail store that also does repairs. Back maybe 4 years ago, my dad had a major heart attack. According to the doctor, he should have died hours before he even made it to the hospital. After he was released from the hospital, he made a stop by the store to grab his checkbook so he could pay the hospital. A lady caught him on the sidewalk in front of the store and said "I just got this fixed a month ago and it broke. What are you going to do to fix it?" My dad politely explained that we weren't open and he was just released from the hospital an hour before. He was grabbing something and leaving again. She responded with (and this is an exact quote) "I don't want excuses. I want to know what you're going to do to fix it." My dad ignored her and locked the door in her face.
My craziest experience was my first day of working at a flower shop and farmer's market. A woman came in as soon as the store opened (around 9am), and asked about a specific type of flower she wanted to buy. My very kind coworker (who was training me) nicely explained that we were out of that specific flower, but we DID have some super similar ones in terms of appearance and level of care if she was interested! I don't know... what was going on with this lady... but she proceeded to scream at my coworker, then just scream at the flower shop/farmers market in GENERAL for not having that ONE flower. Then she came at ME, asking if it was my first day, and said the person training me was bad at their job and she hoped someone else would train me. I told her, no actually, they're very nice and doing a good job training me so far. I couldn't just let her talk badly about this person I JUST met. She got even more upset and left in a huff after she paid for whatever other stuff she bought in there. After she left we both just looked at each other and laughed. I tried to say that maybe she was just having a terrible day so far, but my coworker once again reminded me it was ONLY NINE IN THE MORNING. I never saw her in that store again.
There’s one experience I will never forget when working at a comic book shop. I was ringing up this customer and he launched into a whole pitch basically for a new animated Teen Titans project he was working on. He said he was going to get Kevin Conroy to reprise the role of Batman, that this new project would bring back the “true” Teen Titans, and it would be so much better than the Teen Titans Go trash. And went on about how much he HATED TTG and how awful of a show was, and that this project he was working on would “save the franchise” or whatever. Then his young son who was standing next to him the whole time very sadly and defeatedly looks up and says “… I like Teen Titans Go…” and just… dang that moment broke my heart. Also spoilers; I looked it up and yeah this guy was basically just writing fan fic the whole time. He was nowhere near as connected as he claimed and was not involved at all in the eventual Teen Titans crossover special thing where the TTG meet their original counterparts.
@@nosrin1988 Its like yugioh zexal (or... any of the "hated" parts of franchises) yes it may be bad but its not specifically horrendous, and there is a fanbase for those shows, so we need to coexist with these people, inside and outside of media-based communities
TTG is great anyways. It’s fallen off in later seasons, but if you ignore the fart jokes (ugh, fart jokes…) it’s got genuinely witty and fun writing. I would always choose to watch the original Teen Titans show over TTG, but I honestly don’t think they can be compared in good faith. One is a serialized, semi-serious show with character arcs and complex villains, and the other is a brightly colored comedy. Apples and oranges. 😅
The worst customer experience I had was: I had just begun working at Walmart (yes, I know, Walmart bad.) as a deli clerk. I’d been working there for maybe a few weeks at that point. Now a change that happened before I worked there was the combination of the Bakery and Deli, so sometimes the Deli clerks had to deal with bakery things. HOWEVER, the one thing we couldn’t do was cake decorating since that typically requires more training. And would you believe it, the cake decoration person was injured and didn’t come into work for a while. So this lady comes in and asks me if I can take a cake order for her, which normally we can do that but without a decoration person that wasn’t possible. So I calmly and politely told her this and she asked why. I told her there was no decorator, and she asked me why I couldn’t just do it for her. I told her I’m not a decorator and that we couldn’t take her order, so she EXPLODED at me and started SCREAMING full tilt that she needed this cake and that she was going to call corporate over it because apparently I was “A lazy idiot that was denying her service over nothing” After that my manager stepped in and told her exactly the same things I did, to which she then turns around and YELLS at the crowd of people that the bakery is full of idiots and that there’s no orders so f*ck customer service, basically just ranting and raving and making a huge scene as she stomped away about cakes and idiot workers
@@superspy6 SAME, i dont know what it is about cake (especially ones that come from Walmart, AS a Walmart cake decorator) but it always manages to attract some of the WORST people I've ever had the misfortune of serving
@cxriander8514 I work in a family business, so we get to "cater" our clientele, but we do get people making very annoying requests. Usually asking for a whole cake for that day, the oddest one we got was for a gender reveal cake for that day, I've always wondered what would have happened if miraculously had one but for the wrong gender.
6:13 it's actually insane that a child who still did not meet the height requirements (so probably very young) was able to understand the no but not her mother who was a grown adult.
I hadnt been working at a major corporate grocery store bakery for very long when i was voluntold to work christmas because i was the newest and it meant everyone else could be with their families. I was alone, in a bakery, on christmas, trying to fill up the bread wall. We ran out of kings Hawaiian rolls, which is the absolute top seller in my parts, and no matter how many bread racks i went through, i just couldnt find any more. Several people yelled at me, i was told id personally ruined christmas, one lady told me i should be in hell. The next day, my manager huffed at me, and said that they came in on the freezer loads, and we had plenty in the back freezer. I was never told breads could come in frozen, i was inexperienced and hadnt needed to go into the back freezer during my short time there. I refused to ever work a holiday there again, and managed to transfer to a different store.
I hope that manager of yours got fired. How tf are they gonna expect a new hire to know where everything is and handle one of the busiest days of the year for your store alone!?!?
Hotel Worker for awhile (Front Desk). Got stories for days but one of the most recent ones is that we had a guest where we've gotten noise complaints everyday from multiple different guests around and below. We called up to the room to ask them to quiet down and spoke to the Wife who quickly hung up on us so she could send her husband to yell at us for "harassing her". I kid you not the first words out his mouth after explained why we called was "Its my kids, what do you want me to do, beat them?". Anyway lots of back and forth, lots of yelling at us, ending with him refusing to do anything about the situation. We originally just called to ask nicely but HE told us if he wanted anything done we would have to call the cops. Which we did (we are an extended stay hotel, the guests he was bothering are here for literally weeks we could not have them causing issues everyday). Cops escorted them off the property and of course they went out of their way to make themselves the victim. Coporate got involved asking why we were kicking people out but quickly backed off after management showed the footage of the man just screaming at us for a good 20min.
I'm also a hotel worker (house cleaning) and outside of the atrocities I have to clean everyday, I've had some strange guest interactions lol. First one that comes to mind is recently we had a guest break into our meeting room to watch porn on the big TV. Probably my favorite interaction so far was a guest interrupting me while I was cleaning to ask if I could braid hair (he was a black guy) and then said "oh your white" and just walked away. It still makes me laugh. Side note: can people please stop yelling at me when I tell them where the ice machine is. I'm sorry it's in a slightly inconvent place but it's not my fault
@mordo1191 Well as a front desk I appreciate what you do lol. At my past hotels just normal hotel rooms people are gross, but at this extended stay one where I'm at now the way people live in those rooms is just awful. when i worked at a bakery, a lady placed a pick up order for two dozen cupcakes, and then pre paid for them over the phone. a bit later, she decided to change one of the dozens to gluten free, which cost .25 cents more each, so we refunded her for the original dozen, and she said she'd have her husband pay for the new one when he came to get it. the husband arrives, and I let him know he needs to pay for the gf dozen before he leaves. he proceeds to scoff at me, claim i’m trying to SCAM him because "WE ALREADY PAID"!! so i ask, "didn’t you recieve a refund for the other dozen?" he says "YES!!!" and SHOWS ME HIS BANK STATEMENT OF THE REFUND.....AND STILL TELLS ME I’M TRYING TO DOUBLE CHARGE HIM! i am baffled. he calls his wife and puts her on speaker phone and starts loudly telling her how i'm trying to scam them and is smiling and laughing at me like a crazed lunatic, and she’s just like "honey idek what you’re talking about just come home". I work in a library and our kids section has an automatic door. One time we were really busy and so people were constantly walking in and out of the doors, so they were constantly open. This lady was trying to borrow a bunch of books but she kept having to stop and run after her kid who kept trying to run out of the room. After getting really frustrated the lady came to me and asked if I could lock the doors. Like, shut them and keep them shut so her kid couldn't run out while she borrowed the books. And I looked at her, looked at the doors (the only way in and out for everyone using the library), then back at her, and said "no". She screamed at me in French, demanded to see my manager, called me a fascist, then left.
I've noticed that when you tell a customer bluntly no and just "no", that is when they become the most offended. When I did it, i was repeatedly called a weird F***er aggressively, the customer refused any further help that i offered, tattled on me to my manager, and left. I like to think we both learned something that day but it might have just been me.

I did an internship at my local zoo, mainly as an informant. So I got all kinds of stories. One day I was tasked with guarding the amphitheater since they were bringing out a dangerous animal (and ppl kept sneaking in) and made sure no one got hurt. I did my walk around. They brought a serval out. I was back at my post and closed the barrier. Few minutes go by and this couple came up and asked to get in. So I explained why they couldn’t, they started arguing with me, so much so that the lady hoped off the bike, and when I threatened to call security, she strutted towards me and swung at me. She thankfully missed, then started calling me names and how because I was still in high school she didn’t have to listen to a kid.
“Ma’am that’s a wild animal with the capability to kill you” This lady, for some reason: “thats wrong because you’re a teenager… also I’m going to try and hit you - a child in my eyes - now.”

One time this guy walked in waving a piece of paper in the air and yelling "I'm not wearing a mask I got my vaccination card right here!". He then proceeds to just act really rude and demeaning with every employee as he interacts with them, and when he gets to me, I called him out on the way he was acting (which he did not like one bit). The guy then tries to goad me into going outside and fighting him, and my manager tells him he can leave. But the guy thought my manager was talking to me and goes "Yeah, yeah you can leave" and my manager is like..."no, you've been insulting my employees and are now trying to start a fight, please leave immediately"
this is an untapped goldmine. every single person who's ever worked in retail or food service or any customer-facing job has endless bad customer stories. i can't even pick just one to comment. you should make more of these, i'm sure there infinite stories you could animate
It’s not an untapped goldmine, it’s a very common content farm thing on youtube. Usually there’s minecraft parcour clips in the background, youtube shorts
@ oh i honestly just meant for ice cream sandwich specifically, this is the first time i've seen him do this. you're right though, it is everywhere else
Man I had someone threaten to sue for 'Human rights violations' because I wouldn't give him a discount, he found a discount on our website ON A DIFFERENT CONTINENT and said he should get it :,) People are insane
I'm convinced some people only leave the house to make the lives of others worse. And because retail workers can't yeet them out the window, people treat them like crap. Like, be nice to people who make your life easier. Not. Hard.
I think all retail employees should be allowed to square up with a customer without legal repercussion or being fired once a month. Just to keep people who act like that on their toes.
Lmao most of yall are lazy good for nothing bums who talk shit about customers behind their back and just want to collect a paycheck while doing the bare minimum. I know this because I've worked in plenty of customer service jobs and you people are EVERYWHERE!
Reminds me of when I had a customer and her entitled kid throw candy at everyone. This happened at a Walmart with me being the cashier. A women and her child approach with a cart full of stuff. The kid then asks, "Can we have candy?" Mother responds a negative, but says she'll make up for it later. But the kid not even letting her finish her sentence, goes ape shit and throws candy from the registers at me and his mother; even throwing full boxes of candy at the registers. Meanwhile, the mother was overly relaxed, putting the candy back and telling the kid calmly; "You shouldn't do this honey." I consider myself to be quite forgiving, and overly resilient. Even a bit of a pushover quite frankly. But one thing I can't handle? Entitled ass hats and screaming children. Though, I can't just throw the kid in the trashcan if I want to keep my job. And thus, malicious compliance occurs. Me: "Hey, mother. Just leave the candy up there." Mother: "Uh... alright?" Candy lands on the belts of the registers, and the kid gets overly excited once he realizes the candy is going towards me. I pick up the candy, *pretend* to scan it, purposely missing the scanner and doing a sleight of hand, tossing it to the side instead of in the bag. From the kids point of view, the candy made it into the bag. Though, when he went to look for it; his look of loud excitement turned into visible confusion. That was my goal, to keep him from screeching any more; and it worked. The mother, visibly relieved. Meanwhile the kid continuously looks for the candy searching all of the bags, even though there wasn't anything. Things were quiet after that, and the mother thanked me. ...though chaos ensued once they got out of Walmart I'm sure. Though; at that point it wasn't my problem. I was just glad everybody's eardrums were in one piece.
I literally just got off work (cashier) and I had to explain taxes to a woman and she screamed at me thinking I was trying to scam her from getting her discount. And that's just the worst one of today...there have been worse.
WE EXPERIENCED THE SAME THING HOLY SHIT!? I had to explain to a lady that 2 kids combo meals from subway with her 6 inch combo was going to be the amount she got because of the taxes added to it and she belted out curses and spit with how angry she got. Eventually I pulled out my own calculator and got the same result and showed her....then processed to point to everything and leading her to do the math with her and she STILL didn't get it. This was a grown woman in her 30s-
Assuming people are like me and want me bad customer experiences to read, here's mine: while working as a swim teacher for kids, we had a first day family come in. The class level was for kids who could put their face in the water but couldn't float- as a first day I made sure the kid went last so they could see the expectations. It gets to the kids turn, I talk 'em through what we're going to do, making sure to ask "Are you ready to go all the way under (the water)?" before the dip. Kids says yes. The moment this kid comes out of the water (max 3 sec under), kid starts screaming and crying like bloody murder. Fair enough. I start to try to talk with the kid to see if they were okay after helping 'em out of the water. Parents immediately start screaming at me, shouting that I traumatized their child, berating me and demanding I compensate them. They weren't even looking at their kid through this whole thing, before or after. Just two full grown adults screaming at a scrawny drenched worker who didn't even come up to their knees while standing in the pool. Even the other families looked flabbergasted at what was going on. Thankfully, my manager was there and removed them from the premises. Never saw those people again, but I think about them from time to time.
Yeahhh I had my fair share of either over protecting parents, trophy kids that can’t even kick, and criers that even if a pinky toe touch the water they act like lava itself was splash on to them.
Once got screamed at and called a thief by a guy who thought the corporate-made prices were too high. An old bastard. Just... SCREAMED at me over the cost of a gas can that he apparently desperately needed (which I agreed it was too expensive) and when I told him I couldn't change the price because I could get in trouble, he called me a thief. So I told him to leave. His attitude changed REAL fast when I said I wasn't selling it to him because of how he was treating me and could buy it somewhere else if he needed it that bad. I told him if he wanted it, he could apologize to me. He did, begrudgingly, and I let him buy it. And he skulked off. Then had to come back a minute later because he hadn't put GAS in it, lol
Some clothing retailers require you to be wearing brands they stock so the idea that employees can't buy from their own store is ridiculous. Employees get discounts, companies want to get that paycheck money back into their pockets.
This is not true for a lot of stores, I used to manage a cell phone store and employees where not allowed to buy products because customers where supposed to get preferential access to new devices, also to prevent employees from selling devices at above sticker online- buying a phone with your employee discount and getting paid back for it from a third party was considered theft, it was pretty much only enforced on people that leadership(me mostly) did not like
The last one reminded me of an interaction I heard between an amusement park security officer and a mom while I was waiting in line for a roller coaster. The mom was shouting at the employee who was gatekeeping the ride to make sure kids weren’t getting on if they were too short, so the employee called security on her. The security officer came around and so she started shouting at him instead, apparently thinking that he had any influence over whether or not her kid got on the ride. The officer waited until she was done screaming then pointed to the roughly 40 foot wide thoroughfare. She demanded to know what he was pointing at and he just said, “There’s a reason why we won’t let him on the ride. 20 years ago I saw a kid about the same age as yours fly out of their seat and fall dead on the concrete. Nothing’s changed about this ride since, except for this sign being put here. Do you want the same thing to happen to *your* kid?” She was speechless for a solid 30 seconds before she started cursing at the officer as she speed-walked away with her kids arm in hand. The little boy looked terrified, but I’m sure he never wanted to get on a ride that was too tall for him after that. I don’t think I can say the same for that mother though, as the first thing out of her mouth when she could speak again was, “Are you fucking threatening me?!”
I used to work for an auto parts store, many many years ago. We had a customer bring in a starter saying it was "bad" and wanted a refund for it. Obviously we're supposed to test these things before anything else can happen, and it worked perfectly, the guy also didn't have a receipt for it so two red flags right there. This guy had the audacity to walk outside and throw the starter on the ground...IN FRONT OF A BUILDING WITH A GLASS WALL!!! He then comes back inside and says it's broken and wants his money back. I'm so glad I don't work customer service anymore.
I worked at a library and I've had my fair share of bad experiences with patrons but the one I remember the most is this one: One day while I was working at the front desk, this old woman came in with a service dog. I wasn't going to inquire about this service dog (I know as a staff member I'm supposed to but I'm too afraid of potential confrontation to do so) but my supervisor was nearby and asked the lady what purpose her service dog performs. The old lady immediately got angry and starts going on about how she doesn't have to answer that question. This would be true if my supervisor asked her what her disability was but the question my supervisor asked was one she was legally allowed to ask her. The old woman started ranting about how she has rights and how we were violating them and kept cutting off my supervisor when she tried to to peak. After a minute or so another patron known for his anger issues told the old lady to shut up and after she snapped back at him, he started yelling at her! After a little longer she gets kicked out, tells my supervisor that she's going to make sure that she loses her job and that she will be back to serve us a lawsuit. (She never did lol) As I was trying to process all of the chaos that had just unfolded in front of me, she then yells full force into the library one more time about how awful our library was, and how we were bullies who had just violated her rights before finally leaving. At that point I had to put my knuckle on my mouth so that the old lady wouldn't see that I was holding back my laughter. I 'm relieved that she didn't aim her shouting towards me, but at the same time I felt really bad for my supervisor for having to deal with her BS. So the moral of the story is: Don't be like this woman and also please don't come to the library if you're not going to be quiet. The lack of common decency some people have for others is astounding.
I would just about guarantee it wasn't a service dog at all, probably just her pet and maybe she bought a fake service dog certification online. A real service dog owner would have learned what their legal rights actually were. I guess she didn't know that a disruptive person can be removed, service dog or not!
I work in a library too and it's sadly so common :( After asking the question, and getting their response, it's easy to know which animals and handlers are or aren't trained. In my state, miniature horses can be service animals also!
@@madisonh1703 miniature horses can be service animals in all of the United States. :D Their rights are a smidgen unclear since they sort of got tacked on later, and technically aren’t included in the legal definition of “service animal.” They do have public access rights and all that though. They’re beneficial to people allergic to dogs, and people who can’t have a dog for other reasons (fear, religion, etc). They’re also better suited to some mobility support tasks than dogs, as a miniature horse is sturdier than a dog of the same size (mobility support service animals will often be leaned on or used for balance). I hear they’re good at guiding too. :)
I worked on a Chuck E Cheese, and my bad experiences were: -Kid who threw his party cake and minutes later cried because he didnt had cake -2 moms fighting for like 4 tickets -While on the rat suit, a dad forcedfully removed "my head" and punched me on the nose
@@anormallookingyoutubechann1110 kinna funny to say, because the suit got a lot of blood from my nose; so it looked like if chuck ate a kid or something xD
So, I'm not *technically* self-employed, but I work for my dad who owns his own business (it's a jewelry store, for context later on). Might as well be the same thing because I get the major perk of being able to kick out and ban awful customers. I had one guy that came in for a battery in his watch. We were over-run with making custom jewelry for people, so I told him he would have to leave it and I would do it that night before I left and he could pick it up the next day. He (begrudgingly) agreed to leave it, so I took his information, wrote down the identifying parts about his watch, took a picture of said watch and put the price of the battery all on the intake paper. I printed it out and gave the customer a copy and kept a copy to go with his watch for organization. He came in first thing the next morning to pick up his watch and I was the one who had to help him, yet again. I told him his due amount and he immediately started on a tirade about how he wasn't paying $10 for a battery and we did it while he waited last time and just being a jerk. I just said "Sir, I told you the price verbally yesterday when you left it. It was also printed on your receipt." He just said "I don't care" and went back and repeated the little tirade he had right before about not paying that. I said "Okay sir, give me just a second." I went back into the shop, took the new battery back out and closed it back up. I took it back out and said "here you are sir! No charge, you're all set. Have a nice day!". He looked at it confused and said "but it's not even running!". I said "I know, I took my battery back since you're not paying for it. Get out and don't come back"
When i was a cashier i once had a lady yell at me because i didn’t give her enough eyecontact when i handed her my recipt. I tried apologizing (even though i thought it was stupid) and she literaly wouldn’t accept my apology! She held up the line for like 2 minutes just ranting. It’s funny now but back then i was on the verge of tears lol
Yea, a disturbing amount of people suffer from "chronic stupid" -as I call it Additional tangent, I have often been regarded as "very self conscious" -which I now recognize. Basically, I am somewhat more aware of my actions, state of self, and general person than most individuals around me. This leads me to also notice the other people's actions, which leads me to pick up on how idiotic people are. It gets really frustrating to just exist in some places, and it's difficult to find even acquaintances who I can tolerate (because I unfortunately cannot tolerate stupid people for very long, which can include those who are childish in ways like mocking you via copying. People who can't effectively argue a point also annoy me because they usually also refuse to see the validity of your point despite theirs clearly being wrong). Overall, dummies make me need a punching bag-or, rather, an object to hit with a stick, since my hands are too weak to really punch without it hurting. At least I can use more verbal methods of altercation, or swordfighting... I'm getting distracted, see ya!... whoever you are
Someone once said they should get hazard pay and as a customer service employee I definitely agree, at least during the holidays. Because you only get bonus pay (if you're lucky) ON the actual holiday, even though the week before Thanksgiving and two weeks before Christmas are always a mad house
I (16 [at the time], female) worked at an amusement park and I had a group of middle school boys come up and talk to me for about 10-15 minutes and would not leave even when I was helping another customer. (I was on games.) They repeatedly asked me if I could give them a specific stuffed animal, asked if they could play for free, asked for my Snapchat/number, etc. When they finally walked away, they came back about 5 minutes later and did the same thing. I considered contacting security a few times, but the truth was that even though they were being annoying, they were being respectful and talking to them gave me something to do. When I was helping a customer, they stepped back and let me do my job. Not a bad story, just my most memorable one.
I'm really happy for you, the whole way through reading the story I was expecting it to take a turn for the worst, I'm really glad that even if the dudes didn't get the hint they weren't actually annoying you or worse
My best story when i worked in retail: it was during the pandemic around xmas. So we had a maximum number of custumer inside the store, and a long line outside. Im in Canada, so its cold outside in winter. My job was to stay at the door and supervise the entries and tell customers when they can enter. I felt bad for them for staying outside in the cold while waiting their turn so i was always letting a few of them inside near the door while they wait. One day there was alot of people, it was a bit crazy so i was making hand gesture to the custumers outside to tell them they can enter. I would do a hand gesture to tell them to come inside and point at the place where they can wait. I had a men told me that he didnt appreciate how im pointing at where i want him to be like im "bossing" him around and he refused to enter inside. I was very confused. I told him "oh im sorry but im only doing this so you dont have to wait outside, its cold today". He prefered staying outside in the cold, instead of "following my orders"... i felt bad for his wife who also had to wait outside with him.
Ok yes, customers can be bad, but once an old guy and his wife came into the store I work at, and the man was wearing a cute pikachu hat and I noticed he was playing pokemon Go. Halfway through his shoping he booked it out the door, like, full on sprinted. Around five minutes later he runs back into the shop shouting "I FORGOT MY WIFE I WAS FIGHTING A RAID!!!!" So he walks back to his wife and apologizes. It was so cute I swear I love old couples
The hubby must be slightly ADHD/ASD; so cute! 🥰 My cousin is like that when I visited her and auntie one Thanksgiving when Pokemon Go was popular back then.
10 years ago I worked at the Disney Store and my manager taught me to just progressively get nicer and nicer to horrible customers, become so overly nice and friendly that they get frustrated and leave, because there is literally nothing they can do 😂 10 years later this is still the advice I use!
As a paramedic, I ran through my own frustrating patients. We once had a patient with a history of seizures, a teen who had suffered a seizure right before we arrived on the scene. The home we arrived at was very well taken care of and looked like a mansion. Fast forward a couple of minutes later, the kid was moved onto a stretcher and subsequently, we had the dad come with us on our way to the hospital. That day, the hospital was overwhelmed with the shocking number of patients coming in from a recent flood, so the emergency room had a lot of patients to take care of. Once we rolled the patient in, the only room we could find was a shared room with lots of beds for everyone to rest but before we could do that, the father rushed towards the front desk demanding their son get a VIP room and demanding that they didn't know who he is. I, a lonely paramedic with limited capabilities in running the hospital, demanded that he get a VIP room even though I had no say in the matter. After the incident, we learned that the man in question was in fact an actual prince. Least to say, it was quite a memorable day.
On my second day of being a retail cashier, this guy came up and paid all in change. And then just kept giving me hand fulls of change while I was STILL counting his other change. I admit it was taking me a minute because of all the change, and he and his granddaughter were trying to talk to me while i was counting. It wasn't even 3 minutes and this lady in the line starts yelling at me because I don't how to count change and how she was standing there for 15 minutes (she was not) anyway I cry and my manger comes over and tells her yelling gets people no where. So, of course, the lady storms out while leaving her stuff on the conveyor belt, and a cart still full of junk. 😃
5:50, my neighbors once called the police because our other neighbor was riding their bike up and down the sidewalk, so of course they came. But when they got there, they found out that it was a 3 year old riding a tricycle on the sidewalk.
Alright, time to tell this story again. I was working at a movie theater/restaurant (you know, the kind where you order in the theater and have a server and all that jazz). I went to greet this older woman, maybe late 50s or early 60s. She seems pretty normal and polite, and orders an old fashioned and that's it. I'll never forget that detail. Okay, no big deal, I order her drink and bring it out to her and go about my business. About half an hour into the movie, I start getting complaints from nearby tables that she's talking loudly and being distracting during the film, something that we don't allow and are pretty strict about removing anyone being a distraction. Since by that point, multiple people have complained, I have to get a manager to step in and have her removed since she's way past the point of just getting a warning. As she's being informed that she has to leave the theater, she decides to do something that cranks up the chaos to 11, and starts knocking everything off of every person's table on her way out of her row. This is obviously not going to be something that people handle well. She seemed to have assumed (wrongly) that the complaints were coming from the family sitting next to her, and wanted to get her revenge. Not only did she assault these people, but she also knocked over the food and drinks of the group past them, and all of it also spilled onto the people in the row below them, so now she's just made about a dozen people very pissed off at her. Everyone's now on their feet, angrily yelling at her, and covered in their meals, and she starts to loudly yell and swear at them in response. This only makes them get louder as well. We eventually get her down to the exit hallway, and everyone's in a frenzy. Suddenly, she trips over herself and falls. Nobody touched her, but she began screaming and crying and accusing one of our managers of shoving her to the ground. There were enough witnesses between the staff (about 8 or so people nearby trying to resolve the situation) and a bunch of other angry customers around to be able to confirm that her story was bullshit. Several people offered to help her to her feet, but not only did she refuse, she began punching and kicking at anyone who got close. One server who walked in on the situation not knowing what was happening tried to politely help her up, and got punched in the throat for it. Naturally, we have the police on the way, but it takes around ten excruciating minutes for them to arrive while she bellows and moans at the entrance to the theater. All the managers in the building are on damage control mode, comping everything for anyone anywhere near the splash zone, giving discounts to everyone for having to deal with it, and having us pass out free movie vouchers to the whole theater to try and make up for it. When the cops eventually arrive, she starts attacking them as well, and the cops don't play nice when you start attacking them. They got her in cuffs and out the door pretty quickly. We would come to find out that she was on medication that reacted poorly with alcohol. Remember what her order was? That's right, it was an old fashioned and nothing else. If only I had some way of knowing, I would have refused her sale. Oh well, nothing I could have done about it. Anyway, almost every table chose not to tip, so we got to work through that insanity for practically nothing. I don't blame anyone for not wanting to tip for that experience, but all the back-breaking labor (and for some of us, bodily harm) just to not be paid is a miserable experience. It truly was the worst possible outcome.
I worked at a cafe for a bit over a year until they shut down (fired us without notice but anyway that’s seperate) and I was like the little 15 year old errand girl. I washed up the dishes, I served customers, and I made and completed drinks. A little detail that is important, we had regular tables and then two very large picnic tables side by side not two metres apart. On a particularly busy day, I was going back and forth with plates and cups and then washing them and then making the drinks I was behind on. While struggling with arms full of dirty dishes, I hear a “Hey. HEY.” behind me, so I stop and try not to drop the plates. “Hi how can I help you?” “Yeah so we want to sit on that picnic table over there but it’s full of dishes can you get rid of those?” I look over to the picnic table. One of them is dirty and cluttered. The other is spotless. I composed myself as much as I could and held back from screaming at this lady to just sit on the identical one RIGHT next to it and said I’ll do that as soon as I can.
God, that's so annoying. I know it's technically in the customer's right to sit wherever but man. I feel like ppl need to understand what workers feel.
I think everyone loves the ads but the intros are so good! It's exactly what you feel, except that once the fun ad starts it's just like "man, this is fun" AND I remember it when I need it. Thanks for everything Andy! You light up my day like the sunny goof you are:)
The first story reminds me of not my experience, but a friend of mine. She worked a ice cream shop and a lady came in and was getting ice cream for her kid. Now, my friend struggles with self harm, and had scars on her wrists from cutting. When scooping ice cream the mom saw her wrists and told the kid that they should make sure they go to school and not do things like that to get a good job. Which is like, SUPER fucked up.
I worked a lowes. And there was a return policy for flowers and plants. If your flowers did not rebloom, you could return them if you had proof of purchase. So, like perennials or whatever. I was working at the customer service desk. And this older woman comes in with basically twigs in a plastic bag. I told her she needed her receipt. I looked up her information on the computer too. I checked like 3 of her cards. You can search for a receipt using the date or the last 4 of the card and such. She wanted me to keep looking. So I did. I kept looking. Through every record. Nothing. And apparently, that was my fault. Apparently, it was my fault that she did not have her receipt. We had taken the twigs and dirt out of the bag. I was looking for the plant tag. The little sign thing. People will often keep them bc they have useful information on them. And sometimes they will have the barcode sticker on them. If it was there, I'd at least be able to know what was supposed to be on the receipt and search for the item number. But nope. Just dirt and twigs. And she was mad at me because she felt I should just be able to take her word on what this stuff is and just refund her whatever they cost now. Um. No. That's not how this works. Prices change. Not to mention the fact that I don't know how to give you your money back without proof of purchase. Do I put it back on a random credit card. Cash? My youth put into a jar? I dont know. And more importantly, I literally can't if I want to keep my job. Also, I literally can't bc the computer won't let me! Also, my supervisor was also at customer service. Even if i wanted to break the rules, which didn't bc f this rude lady, then I would have been immediately caught. So after a long time of looking through a years worth of everyones purchases and her yelling at me because I obviously didn't know how to do my job. I put my foot down and told her there was nothing else I could do. And she grabbed up her twigs. And I assumed she was leaving and taking them with her. NOPE! She threw them at me! Dirt and twigs in my face. It didn't hurt or anything. I was just in total shock. My supervisor did not like that. I put the twigs in the bag, and my supervisor just took over. And I just stood there in shock. Like wtf. And then he told me to go help the next customer at the next computer. Like, yeah. Doy. Why am I just standing here? So I did. And these people had been waiting and watched this woman throw her twigs at me and yell at me. So they were the chillest 3 customers I had ever helped. One guy was returning a tool that was made by the lowes tool brand. I forget what it was called. But basically, lowes and a tool brand worked together, and because of that, the tools had a lifetime warranty. So you could bring that old busted wrench back like 5 years later, and we'd still replace it. He was super worried that because he didn't have his receipt anymore, he couldn't be helped. But it was a different case. I was able to call a rep from that department. They looked at the wrench and found the most similar thing on the shelf. I had to do the process in the computer and gave him the new one. Then, I had to make a paper tag thing and put it in the box to be shipped back to the manufacturer. The dude was so chill. He waited so patiently. He kept saying that if it wasn't possible that it wasn't a big deal, he wouldn't be mad. Chillest dude. Honestly, it seemed like he just didn't want me to be upset. Like just considerate. While i was doing that, my supervisor was doing all the same things I had been doing for the twig lady. He was looking through every purchase he could think of and came up with nothing. And so he also told her there was nothing he could do. He totally could have just taken her word for it and given her store credit. Bc he had overrode powers. But he was kind of pissed at her for throwing her shit at me. So he wasn't going to do her any favors. So she got mad. She asked for the manager. He got to say the words every customer facing employee dreams of saying, "I am the manager." Technically, he wasn't, but there were like 4 ish supervisors. And 1 cash front manager. And he wasn't going to escalate this up the chain to him bc fuck that. So she left in a huff. Left her shit on the desk. And just stomped out. Not even 10 mins later, she's back. No one is in line. My supervisor had to go help at a register, so once again, it's me and her. And what does she have? HER FUCKING RECEIPT!!! not even like a new receipt that she's passing off so she can get her money back but a recipt from last year with the correct items on it and everything. I processed the refund so fast. And I asked her which card was on the receipt bc the last 4 on the receipt wasn't one of the 3 she had insisted she had to have used. It was her fucking husband's card! GOD! FUCKING! DAMN! IT! LADY! JESUS! MARY! AND FUCKING JOSEPH! WHY!? And she still wasn't happy. Bc the money was going on her husband's card, and she wanted it on her card. And I had to then tell her that's not how it works. My supervisor came back to the service desk. And he saw her. And she saw him see her. And I saw her see him seeing her. And she just said, "Whatever," and that was the end of it. And she left. And I got to take my break early. I haven't worked at lowes for like 7 years. I got married that year, got into a great job at a financing company, and only did stuff with other hr compliant employees. I could never go back to a customer facing job. I have 0 patience now. I would be fired so fast. If that happened today, I would have put that shit in her bag and beat her with it. I'd be in jail. So, thankfully, I don't have to deal with the public anymore.
It makes me wonder if the whole thing was just her trying to throw enough of a fuss to see if the return would go back onto her card all along. Not a scam per-se but certainly a it sus
Ugh I wish I knew what sort of job I could get that isn't front-facing. I've worked retail for over a decade and two years ago I just up and quit. Couldn't take the abuse anymore, not from customers, not from management. I've been out of work and attending therapy since then and I don't know what to do for a job going forward. Figured I could try streaming, but I'd need something at least part-time to bring in money until (or if) that takes off. I'm sorry you had to deal with someone harassing you like that. I started snapping back at people prior to quitting and it really felt good.
I’ve worked multiple customer service jobs: For my first job, I worked at a mall in a small women’s clothing shop. When things got slow, we were supposed to take the trash out and I often volunteered so I could go for a walk. The thing is, we had to take this sketchy backrooms looking hallway to the trash & recycling receptacles (they were outside in front of the mall). It was very often that I would see customers entering by this hall even though the doors said “employees only” One summer day, I was taking out the trash when some guy on his bike was passing by. He came to a screeching halt when he saw me and slowly turned his head, he had the creepiest smile I’d ever seen. As he turned the bike towards me, I walked away from the trash bins and towards the employee doors, trying to appear clam. The second I got to the doors I bolted back to the store and got behind the counter. My coworker thought I was crazy, but I knew he had followed me inside, he stopped a couple of stores away from where I worked.
I once had a customer tell me that the bags were too small cus they couldn’t hold two bags of family sized chips (which they can if you bag em correctly). The family sized chips couldn’t fit in the bag bc they CRAMED THEM INTO THE BAG. This was AFTER they asked if they have to pay extra for bags bc it was “like that in Arizona”. When I tried to help him by placing them in the bag correctly, he got even more upset and said “I should’ve just used my own bags”. I work at a Walmart. Little word of advice…..DONT. WORK. FOR. WALMART!!
I remember this one time that happened when I worked at a very well known thrift shop. It was the year 2020 and it was around the time when we were all allowed to go back to our jobs but still had to be very cautious so we wouldn't catch covid since the vaccine didn't excite yet. Anyway I was on cart duty, meaning I had to ask customers who are coming in to wear face masks and offer one if needed and ask the customers who are leaving to leave their carts to me so I could disinfect them. While I was cleaning some carts, a lady came up to me with no mask on, wearing some USA flag baseball cap and shirt with a cart load of stuff asking if the fitting rooms were open. I said "No sorry, they're not. Do to covid reasons, we have to keep them closed." And most of the time I've said this, they understood, accepted that fact and continue with their shopping but not this lady. She go one a rant saying "Why not?! This is ridiculous! It's a 5 minute wipe down!" and I want to clarify it is not a 5 minute wipe down. It took us 15-20 minutes to disinfect the bathrooms each so there was no way we would be able to clean all 4 fitting rooms we had without someone trying to sneak in before we could clean it or get mad that we were taking to long to clean it. She then of course asks to speak to a manager and I reluctantly brought her over to my co worker who was working behind the register to call for the manager who was on duty at the time. The manager came and the lady gave her the same rant she gave me and the manager tried to tell her over and over again why we couldn't let her use the fitting rooms. Then finally she just let the lady try on the clothes in the woman's bathroom which is also a no no but let her anyway. My co worker, the manager and I all gave each other a look like "WOW!" After that, the lady checked out her things and left with a smile on her face and right after she left, my old co worker came up to me (6ft apart of course) and told me what the lady said to her while she was checking out. According to her, she said "Sorry about that whole thing, I'm not a Karen or anything." We both gave each other the same look when she said that. =_=
She was such a Karen! It's one thing to question some of the stuff we did during COVID, especially since we've learned that a lot of it was made up. It's another thing to *demand* that rules be changed just for you. That's what she was doing. She Karened all over the place. Some people don't have self-awareness.
My first job was a lifeguard at our local pool. One time, it started raining and thundering there. I told everyone to get out (like I was told to do). And our policy was that you couldn’t get in the pool for any reason if lightning was in the area (we allowed people to sit outside the pool and wait to see if the weather got better). So this group of about 6 teenage boys all start jumping back in the pool. I told them at least 4 times that we would have to kick them out if they kept jumping in, but ofc they ignored me. I told my manager, and he told them the next person to jump in would be kicked out. They all said okay whatever yadda yadda. But the moment my manager’s back was turned, they all flipped him off behind his back. I told him, and long story short, those boys were not allowed onto pool property for several months.
Had something like this happen to me. Told the dude “ if the lighting strikes the pool, you’ll literally died” and without any and I mean any hesitation, he said, “ I’ll take my chances” MF NO!!! NOT IF IT GOING TO COST ME MY MF JOB!!!
Were they not aware of the danger of electrocution, or were they just that willing to disregard their own safety?? …Actually, that sounds incredibly accurate for teenagers.
i had customers come in harassing other customers to buy them free food. left a giant mess and told me they didn’t eat in days but these people were wearing name brand clothes and when other customers bought them food they were complaining abt it and were complaining abt our prices. it’s panera bread..
I worked as a cashier for Panera as well and had a similar situation. A man came in and wanted to order an Asiago bagel, but said he forgot his wallet. Since I had a reward on my personal account for a free bagel, I was just going to plug in my number and give it to him. When I said his bagel was on me, he then asked if I could pay for a spicy chicken sandwich and a bowl of broccoli cheddar soup as well. I said no, so he threw a fit and stormed out of the building. Also, I had to deliver a gift card to a homeless man outside because a customer asked and my managers didn’t want to do it. After I gave him the card, he asked me if I saw any ghosts around him. I said no, went back inside, and never saw him again after that shift.
I worked at a breakfast place that was on soft opening. So of course, everything would be chaotic along with the food n service being slow. It was my first day there and I already received complaints from customers. This one stood out to me the most. It was a father n daughter. The dad ordered an appetizer and the daughter ordered a main entree. You can solve it from there. The dad came up to me questioning where his daughters food and angrily explained he finished his food already. Again, you can solve it from there. I politely told him it’s still soft opening and the cooks were doing the best they can. He got even more angry saying we didn’t even start his daughter’s food. I repeated myself and apologized. He looked at me in the eye and said, “go refill my cup of coffee if you’re gonna be that slow”. It was just 2 poeple serving on a Sunday morning.
I used to work at a pharmacy that’s now closed pretty much everywhere and I used to work at two because the first one got closed down. The second one I worked at was way nicer with 99% of customers being awesome. But sometimes, that 1% decides to come in when I’m working. It was a Sunday and we don’t sell alcohol on Sundays because we were right next to a church. I’m working the evening shift and this woman comes in and starts looking around. I didn’t think anything of it but then she came up to the register with a box wine. I told her, “Sorry, we don’t sell wine on Sundays.” She said, “That is NOT the law! The new law states that anywhere can sell alcohol every day!” Or something like that. And I say, “I’m sorry but it’s store policy. I think it has to do with the church next door.” “Well Kroger sells it every day of the week!” I said I’m sorry and mentioned again that it’s store policy. So she goes back to the wine aisle with what she brought and comes back with a four pack of mini wines! She says in a very snarky tone, “Is this considered wine.” I look at her with an exhausted expression and say, “Yes. Yes it is.” She then puts it back and goes to leave but before she does, she tells me I need to read up on my laws. If she knew Kroger sells wine on Sundays but came to my work, why didn’t she just go to Kroger?! There was even a gas station across the street she could’ve gone to!
i was looking for any pharmacy employees sharing stories in the comments 😂 mine also did not do alcohol on sundays and between the front and rx this lil surprise somehow happened every week.
Just wondering if you weren't able to sell alcohol why was wine able to be picked up from the shelves? Maybe just a Scotland thing but the entire alcohol section gets sectioned off at specific times to stop this confusion
@ it'd be a weekly thing, not sure about alcohol restrictions outside of the states tbh. and then it can vary state to state, county to county, district to district (as a kid one place couldnt sell but the place across the street could simply because one was far enough away from the nearest church that always said no alcohol yes its this stupid sometimes) so no room for a company-wide blanket statement. the pos system literally will refuse the sale so it won't go on accident. and then not every item is in the fridge in stores like cvs and walgreens, and not the only thing in that fridge or aisle. trust me we would love to prevent stupid moments with locking doors 😂 though then we'd get asked why it's locked.
There was one time a couple years back I was working at a hardware store, I had someone stop me while I walking back to my department and the interaction went something like this "Unlock this for me, i need a drill" "Okay, let me get on the store phone I'll call someone over with a key" "No, *YOU* will help me" "I have to call someone from hardware over, they dont give me a key because I work in wood" "I know they give you all keys, I've seen it before, you guys are just lazy and don't want to help people" "Well they never gave me a key, would you like me to text my supervisor, they might have one" "No, you can't just pawn me off on someone else, do your job" It went on like this until someone from hardware walked by and unlocked the cage for them and they scowled at me and said "This would have been so much faster if you just helped me instead of trying to find an excuse to get out of it"
Y'know, a lot of times I see these true stories, and I wonder, maybe some of these people are just having a bad day. I'm not stupid, a lot of people are jerks just cuz, but that doesn't mean all of them are. Now, I don't agree with what they do, especially not in this case but maybe they have (albeit poor) reasons.
@ yeahh lmao I think a lot of people overestimate how much big chains trust their employees. Most of the time, if you don't explicitly need access to something, you don't have access I can't even tell you how many times I have to explain to people "I'm not a cashier, i can't just 'jump on a register real quick' because i don't have access" Edit: RUclips fix your mobile app please Replies work only about half the time for seemingly no reason, the app has gotten so bad over the past year i swear
At that point you just mime getting out a key ring and "unlocking" the cage before going "Huh, weird! my key isn't working! let me call someone else over" It's petty and probably wouldn't go over well in reality (unless your supervisors are extremely chill) but man. the sheer stupidity and stubbornness of the general public is baffling sometimes
Worst customer I had to deal with was one that was banned from my workplace, but I didn't hear about it because I was somewhat new to the job. He came in and asked me multiple questions about heirloom tomatoes (we were selling them) and used every single thing I said as an insult against me. Then he demanded his produce be reweighed because he didn't believe the price and after I was proven correct about the price because he literally manually reweighed the produce on my side of the counter, he complained that we were overcharging him and barged off after paying. I then learned afterwards when I complained to a coworker about the experience that he was banned from my workplace after harassing a volunteer and being inappropriate with several female customers, garnering him the nickname "uncle touchy" by all my coworkers. He's also a bio teacher at a local university, so I guess "Professor Touchy" would be a more accurate moniker.
Oh boy do I have some stories. I work at a family owned gas station that has a USPS contract unit and a growler bar inside. It also has a car wash outside worked by a separate set of employees. Some of my personal favorites from over the years are as follows: -People driving through the car wash and breaking it on a regular basis, to the point where the common reaction to this happening is a heavy sigh. -Old ladies driving through the front window into the store, crashing into anything within a few feet of that window. This has happened multiple times. -For a little while the automatic door was broken so it was left open and didn't do the whole back and forth thing via sensor, and because of this the store was a lot colder than usual since it was in the late fall. I cannot begin to tell you how many people complained about it being cold in the store as if they didn't just walk through the broken door. -ok so context a growler bar is a row of kegs and a menu board where you either bring in or purchase a growler glass and get it filled up with your beer of choice to bring home and drink there. The growler is pressurized in order to keep the drink carbonated until you're ready to drink. The amount of people that asked to fill an empty milk gallon or water bottle astounds me. Not only illegal but also unsafe. -Our store stopped selling Coke products because of some issues between them and the company and whenever people ask where the coke is we let them know we don't sell any and normally people are like "huh, weird" and either find something else or don't get anything which is totally fair. One lady, however, decided to press the issue and accused us of pushing a "Pepsi agenda". This was a few years ago and to this day I still have no idea what that means. -the amount of people that do not understand that the USPS inside the store is a contract unit and therefore we cannot do everything that the regular post office can is amazing. The amount of people I've had to tell that we don't do passports and then go "bUt YoUrE a PoSt OfFiCE" like yes, on a technicality, just the same as we are a bar on a technicality but you don't see me making a much needed Cosmo rn do ya -you cannot fill a milk jug, a milk carton, a large water bottle, or a WHITE GARBAGE BAG with gasoline. You need a gas cannister. The amount of times I've had to SPRINT to stop someone from pouring gas into an unsafe container is crazy. -we had a guy somewhat recently lock himself in the bathroom for multiple hours and after the police arrived and kicked the door down to get him out (he was still verbally responding but refused to leave) it was found that he had multiple outstanding warrants in the next state over. Why he didn't leave when he was told the cops were being called I'll never know. -Do you know how many people will get angry when you won't sell them beer or cigs when their license is expired? a lot, apparently, especially those where their license has been expired for multiple months or longer. Had one guy full on scream at me to give him his cigs when I refused to sell. -we also refill propane at work which includes RV and similar vehicles. We ask that all living and breathing creatures inside the RV leave until filling is done because we don't want to be responsible if some one inside starts breathing it in in an enclosed space. Had a guy give me a mouthful because he had 7 DOGS IN THE RV and we told him he'd had to take the dogs somewhere and come back if he wanted to get it filled if he was refusing to take the dogs out of the RV in order to fill. He still refused, even after being told the reasoning. Still don't understand why there were 7 dogs in there. -and last, but certainly not least, we had a customer who, while shopping, suffered a seizure and fell to the ground. While the staff were trying to get medical assistance, we had one person man the door to turn people away so that the store wouldn't get crowded with other customers while we waited for an ambulance to arrive. Almost every single customer complained about there being a MEDICAL EMERGENCY and how they were going to go elsewhere where they weren't going to get stopped at the door when trying to buy gas and cigs. Even after the ambulance arrived and was blocked the door, people still complained.
working cashier can be both fun and annoying to say the least. I get annoyed just cause people won't pick up stuff they clearly dropped, or take out their clothes from the fitting room, and more so. What got me really mad was this one time I was closing cashier and we had one family left in the store. A mom, son and daughter, both young and little. Apparently the little girl saw rollerblades she wanted to try on...there was broken glass in the shoe. We got her taken care of, but she had a lot of cuts on her foot, the mom was super calm about it as she was a nurse and knew how to treat it, etc. But I was so mad cause I know that we sometimes get people who accidentally break something glass and will not tell an employee (probably scared they'll have to pay for it but we don't do that at my store) and they'll either shove it in the back of the shelving, under or even on top where no one can see it. And someone decided not to do that but HIDE IT IN A SHOE!!!! The amounts of idiocy I witness in some customers is... somehow it just keeps surprising me.
Had this happen to me and my coworkers last shift. Some guy came in and was trying to use EBT but he card declined since he wasn’t authorized for restaurant/fastfood purchases. He complained about it to me and asked if we had the number, and I tell him no, you got the card you have the details. He walks out angry, comes back while I’m on break and talks to my manager and coworker, goes off on them for the same thing. Says it’s crazy we don’t have the phone number for him. He’s the one with the card that has the number what is his deal.
My worst ones that I can recall, which I strongly suspect were the same person, was one incident in winter, and another in summer. The case in winter, I was in the midst of getting carts together to take inside, and this woman left hers outside the corral, literally in front of the vehicle parked right next to said corral. I asked her, without anything that would say I'm being rude, to not put it there because it could get in the way. She didn't hear the first time, and asked me to repeat myself, which I did. When she mentioned she had done that to make things easier for me to bring it in with the other carts, I was halfway into speaking at realizing this was all a misunderstanding before she interrupted me with this: "So don't be rude!" and then stormed off. Woman! That was uncalled for! The other, was a case where I was in the midst of bringing carts in again, and there was an elderly man in a wheelchair who had apparently dropped some of his groceries. I wasn't even aware of this, because he was outside my peripheral view at the time. He managed to get them all and carry on, since I didn't see him when I went out again. Yet I was stopped by a woman who started passive-aggressively going on about how I should have helped him. I had to repeat to her THREE FLIPPING TIMES I hadn't seen his situation, yet she kept trying to gaslight me into saying I did but chose not to help. Ugh... I can't wait to get out of this job because of the customers
If she saw it happening, why didn't she help the man with his groceries? Always expecting workers to do shit that doesn't require a paycheck, only just being nice.
@@zay827 She might have to my knowledge, but I don't know. I genuinely wasn't aware of him even having issues with his groceries. I just knew he was there because I passed him prior to grabbing the carts I was retrieving before that incident
I work at a bird seed store (we don’t sell birds, just the seed) we were out of a very specific type of seed for about a year because the company couldn’t make large amount due to supply chain issues that started during COVID. she walked in and started yelling at us to get the product in more consistently. I told her there was nothing we could do about it because the manufacturer wasn’t making enough product to meet current demands. she kept telling me to basically fix it anyway. she bought her stuff and left. one of my co workers said that she has done this exact thing before with other employees where she freaks out if she doesn’t get what she wants.
Been working in an outpatient pharmacy for a few years now. Not going into find details here lest my blood pressure spike, but I can think of more than a few patients who I would pay to see get dragged behind a car after they lost their tiny lizard minds after being told no to a request (early refill of a controlled substance, insurance errors out of our scope, having to wait to pick up a medication because they can’t be bothered to learn our hours. Etc…)
I worked security at a water park 20 years ago. There was a 60 year old man who was angry that someone got to the parken space before he did so he stands on the hood of their car and urinates on the windshield. We called the cops and he was arrested.
We had a customer once who came in after placing an order over the phone. I had to serve her but my boss was the one who took the order. When I brought her the stuff she got she asked where the rest of it was. I checked the receipt and it was all there. I brought my boss over to check with her and it turns out the lady had wanted something else, but gave minimal description of what it was. We have two garlic bread options, and she simply said ‘garlic bread’ whilst looking at the option, resulting in her getting the wrong one. My boss then calmly had to explain to her that we can’t know what she wants over the phone if she gives minimal description and just says one word After she left we made jokes about telepathy
I work in a fuel center for a King Soopers, and the worst I've seen so far is some lady wanted cigarettes at the very last second, it was like 30 seconds to closing and I was about to leave, and I had to tell her that everything was locked up and I was not making any more sales, she proceeded to ask me why I can't take a credit card, I explain that I had put a giant metal plate over the card reader and locked it in place from the inside of the kiosk, I explain that we have to put it there every night to prevent people from messing with it while no one is around, she gets very angry and goes inside the store to find a manager, the next day the manager tells me that I was in the right, I'm my own boss out there and I can lock things whenever I feel like it (within reason)
That first story about the mom punishing her kids reminded me of a work story. I'm in the TSA, one day, when I was checking bags, the Xray operator suspected a bag that belonged to a boy that looked about 10 years old. The operator thought some of his toiletries looked too big, and as soon as I opened his bag, the boy's mom started yelling at the boy, calling him stupid, and cussing at him. None of his things were over 3.4oz, so I put everything back in the bag and made extra sure the mom heard me say everything was good. I couldn't stop wondering how that mom must talk to her son in private if she's so quick to belittle him in front of strangers in public. I hope that boy's okay.
I remember during one of my first days of working at my current job, I was walking around the aisles, organizing products on the shelves when two ladies walk up to me and one asks me, “Do you know where this specific product is?” Me, being the new worker, gave an honest no, mainly because there wasn’t another worker nearby that I could see. Then, this lady raised her voice as she proceeded to say, “Well you work here, so you should know!” Luckily, one of my coworkers overheard and came to help the two ladies. Yes, I’m aware she couldn’t have known I was new, but at the same time, when is it ever ok to raise your voice at someone who is just trying to do their job?!
Most memorable customer was when I worked in a gas station that did burn permits for the nearby counties. I had a male get one, that on the copy the store keeps clearly shows he initialed and signed the 4/5 promises. (Ex: will call before burning). The paper also has the local burn number and that county’s local fire department number. Two or so hours after, the male called the store. I remembered him and found the store copy and was confused by his question. He kept asking what number would he call. I finally had to have him clarify, to which he said “if my house starts on fire, am I supposed to call 911?” To which, I slowly replied “well, as you signed the permit that clearly states you would; yes. I would really hope you call 911 if your house is on fire.”
i work as a cashier and a guy in a motor scooter was paying for alcohol, which is fine. BUT we HAVE TO LEGALLY see ID to give people alcohol so i asked his id and he gave me the most ANNOYED look. he got it for me and rolled away, as i was being as kind as possible and even APOLOGIZING to him that he had to get it. then my coworker told me," i don't know who he just called a shithead, me or you." and i simply responded," probably me."
I get those all the time… As someone who is a cashier Edit: I’ll chime in with one of my experiences involving alcohol and for context at my job scanning ID for alcohol wasn’t a requirement until a few months later when I started working because other stores failed the sting operations and we were one of the few stores that didn’t It’s a normal working day and my coworker takes a break and decides to sit in the back and later 2 girls walk in one of them was an older woman and the other worked for the same company I was in but in a different location the older woman grabs a beer without letting her friend know and puts it behind her jacket she left on the counter when they grabbed everything one of them asked for cigarettes and I asked for ID because beer was there and the young woman flips out! And yes the young woman who works for the same company flipped out and started yelling at me and my co worker in the back starts yelling back and they have a yelling match for 5 minutes and when I finally get a word in I explained that “the reason I asked for ID was because beer was brought to the counter” She stops yelling, grabs her ID, and pays for it and her and her friend leave and I letted my boss know I don’t remember what happened after that but that’s what happened
NEVER apologise. Just deadpan look at them. If they're old enough to drive, and to drink, they should know the rules by now. Nothing to get sulky over unless you're breaking em.
I get asked to show ID every time. Everyone knows that it's policy, it's even on a dang sign at the checkout. Sorry he made such a problem out of it :(
I was a server assistant at a fine dining restaurant that’s in a big fancy hotel chain; for context this hotel is in a state where there’s a lot of Spanish-speaking immigrants, and I’m one of them. just a couple of months ago I had to greet this older couple with a long speech and some water, and they ask me for a combination of hot and iced water, “is it bottled and can you bring lemons” etcetera later I come back to tell them I need a second trip to bring the wife’s hot water, but I start pouring a glass near her and she starts loudly tapping the table with her index finger, makes crazy eye contact and yells “NO NO CALIENTE CALIENTE” like I hadn’t been talking perfect English to her the entire two minutes. I didn’t talk to them the whole rest of the night, but the server also agreed they were acting fools and didn’t even like their dinner lol
i think the absolute worst one i've had was the man that came in literally 5 minutes before we closed -at 6- and stayed until three hours, he brought like 300 plants, but i know for a FACT that he did it on purpose because he wanted to "take his time" selecting what he wanted to buy. I absolutely despise people who think workers only seem to exist in the context of the business, i, clearly, am not a human being, and have nothing else i rather be doing than counting 3 times his 300 plants to make sure the final bill is correct
I hate it too when families walk in 10 minutes prior closing and then proceed to take their time even after being told numerous times that we're going to close. I also have a life and I also want to go home and eat dinner with my family. People can be so selfish
@@kellygreen7236 i work in a greenhouse, we sell plants. This person came 5 minutes before closing time so he could relax and take all the time he wanted choosing his stuff and wait for us to do the math
@@kellygreen7236 i work in a greenhouse, we sell plants. This man came almost at closing time so he could take his time selecting what he wanted, since once its 6, we close the doors, but whoever stays inside we can't exactly kick out, so we had to stay for hours waiting for him to be finished
I feel the first one. I also work at an ice cream place and some parents will bring their kids in, and it will be so obvious the kid has just gone through something awful cause they’re sobbing and hiccuping and can barely even get their order out. But the parent will just ignore that and get ice cream like nothings wrong. It’s always so heartbreaking.
I think I might be missing something here or just misunderstanding the way you worded it. Cause to me it sounds like, well, if the kid is upset and the parent is buying them ice cream, that sounds like a good thing. They're probably buying ice cream to help them feel better. Are you saying they shouldn't make the kids themselves order? I'm sorry if this is obvious and I'm just being silly, but I genuinely can't understand what you're saying is heartbreaking about this interaction except that the kids are sad
@@shadowshade904The parents are buying ice cream to eat themselves in front of the kid, the kid doesn’t get any. Or I’m assuming that’s the case considering that’s what just happened in the video… it is a little confusing.
@@shadowshade904 hi sorry I did word it weird. I mean the parent would get the kid ice cream. But the kid is so upset they can’t even decide. And the last time this happened the parent actually got pissed and snapped at the kid for not just saying what they want. I feel like if your child is still actively sobbing, you should wait for them to calm down in the car for a bit before taking them into the busy shop. Though there were also instances where parents did just get themselves an ice cream while their kid stood there sobbing. Sorry I get how it was confusing.
@@shadowshade904no this happens when you’re already on the way to the shop with your parent but then tell them something they don’t like so they smack you. Personal experience
I was once working in a foodcourt of my local mall, ya know one of those small stalls. It was a busy day and I was the only one up at the front and I had 1 cook in the back. I was young at the time, like 19-20. I had two middle age ladies come up to order from me, like roughly the age of my mother. And at the end of the transaction one of them noticed my necklace, reached OVER THE COUNTER, TOOK THE CHARM IN HER HAND AND PULLED IT TOWARDS HER WHILE IT WAS STILL ON MY NECK. LIKE I HAD TO LEAN FORWARD SO THAT SHE WOULD NOT BREAK IT. She like kinda fingered it like you would any jewelry, looking at how the light plays with it, like showing the other lady going all like 'oh thats very pretty'. Unfortunately when in stressful situations I tend to freeze up so I had just kinda stuttered that her food would be up on the side in however long. It was like an hour or two later into my shift that the shock wore off and I was like "WTF was that!? Who does that!?" It took me so long to process how outside the norm that was. I felt like what you play skyrim and sneak to just look at NPCs inventories without taking anything. It was so voilating, I wish my body and mind didn't freeze up so I could've stood up for myself in the moment.
i have a answer to "who does that" low-functioning adults with autism that were never taught/learned about consequences and cause and effect. how do I know this, it's because I have seen it happen before, and also to answer your question, yes I do in fact have high-functioning autism. but if the lady in question didn't have some form of mental disability then...idk she was probably popping stupid pills or some shit
I have so many stories specifically about when I worked at a store that sold cigarettes. Not just by company policy but BY ARIZONA LAW ID is required or no sale whatsoever. I had dozens of people start cussing me out, yelling at me and my coworkers, and just completely losing their minds over it. And 99% of them were old people. Who should know this is a requirement. And I also have to question since not only did they drive here but a majority of people use their driver's license as their ID, why they were driving without their license on them
Had a guy in at the counter yesterday,we have a policy where if youve bought something online using a store credit card,we need to see the physical card,in person, before we can collect your online order, its to prevent fraud. Anyway, really posh guy comes in,it goes as normal, ask to see his card,he says "oh im sure i can get a picture of it or something",i said no,we need the physical card,it is our policy, (i really dont care if hes commiting fraud but what i am is paid to care),he says hes sure theres some way around it,in a very condescending tone, and says,"so ive driven all the way here, spent all that time parking, walked all the way here just for you to tell me i cant collect it". Yes,i am saying that, our policy says that, whenever you make an order using the store credit card,it explicitly tells you that you NEED TO BRING THE PHYSICAL CARD in order to collect the item. Bring your card, you posh old man,or i will shove that christmas tree you bought into your eardrums. Love you, merry christmas guys
@jess-mx yeah don't get me wrong it seems wierd, because if someone's commiting fraud using a stolen card, they could just show you the stolen card so long as they bought items using that same card, and you'd be none the wiser, but we need to see it in store,so it makes it a bit harder for people to commit fraud. But also, exactly, don't take it out on the employee, like buddy. Look at me,it is Xmas,we are packed, rather than having an attitude problem because of a mistake YOU made, have an attitude with the manager, not me,I'm just the grunt,I am not paid enough to want to make your life difficult, unless you give me incentive to,by having the manners of a literal rock,I will try to be helpful
I worked at a movie theater, among the worst was a lady who always wanted to use the Closed Captioning device that fit in the cup holder. We also had glasses ones that worked way better, were rechargeable, and less complicated to set up. So, she insists on the cup holder, got find the batteries and do the set up. I go in at the start of the movie to make sure they are working, they are. At the end of the movie, she comes out screaming about how we ruined Christmas (forgot to mention this happened on Christmas so super busy) and that she needed passes because it stopped working. I got her one pass, because she was the only one using the device. She screams at me some more about how last time they gave her passes for her whole family. And I'm just like well that was last time...not this time. She stopped coming into my location for a while, but then started pulling the whole scam at the theater in the next town (I knew some of the employees)
My worst job was working in a call center, getting screamed at pretty much daily. But the experience that stood out was a guy cursing and swearing because his wife's card had been turned off. I told him, "Sir, since it's your wife's card, she needs to call us." He yelled back, "My wife is 9 months pregnant!" Like first of all, unless she's actively giving birth, I'm sure she can still make a phone call. And second, who's fault is that, buddy? 🤔
I worked at a customer service desk in a grocery store. Our carts functioned with alarm systems that never worked too well, so oftentimes a wheel on someone’s cart would lock up at random, and needed to be unlocked by customer service (who’d check their receipt) before they could leave. One day, the alarm sounds, and the customer trying to leave was VIOLENTLY shaking his cart around. I explained that the system is tricky, typically used to prevent theft, and that I needed to check his receipt. He got offended I would even think that he’s stealing, quickly pulled his bags out of the cart, told me to f**k off, and left without the cart. He didn’t even steal anything. I’ve dealt with some snotty customers, but this guy stands out from the others.
i once had a full on argument with a customer about whether or not 12+8 and 5x4 both equal 20. and another customer when i was working at an art store asked me if we had a certain type of paint i'd never heard of. she got the shits with me because i didn't know what it was and the fact we didn't stock it. she went to browse for a bit and came back to me. she complained again and then mentioned that the paint is ILLEGAL IN AUSTRALIA. eckersleys isn't known for selling black market art supplies, my dude.
how did you come about to argue with them about 12+8 and 5x4 both = 20? genuinely, how does that happen? also, i'm assuming the customer did not believe that both 12+8 and 5x4 both = 20? 😬

I don't smile, but I genuinely need assistance in finding something I can't on my own... does that make me a bad customer? 🥺
@@Echo81Rumple83 uh, no? why would it? when I used to work retail I didnt mind helping people find stuff as long as they were nice.
Unfortunately, this is also how my dad dealt with having shitty parents
You'd be surprised there's many people in different fields of work that have this mindset and it just creates a perpetual circle of hate.
We don't have them." That's when Mom pipes up and goes "WELL you guys haven't had them for WEEKS or MONTHS."
Yeah...
They're out of season..........
Every person I've told this story to has said the exact same reaction as I had: all equally frustrated and confused by my story lol.
The amount of times customers got so angry at me because a product was sold out is crazy. They personally attack you as if you're the one not reordering.
"What do you mean you're OUT?! This is the 21st Century, not the Dark Ages! How can a Grocery Store in the MODERN DAY not have something?"
Continue to talk to kid: that's 'what out of season' means.
Was expecting the sponsorship to pop up in both books… I’m scared every time
Fellow former produce associate here.

PLEASE tell me he got arrested or got some sort of comeuppance.

I have Mommy issues cuz of mommies like this. You're NOT protecting your kids by making them grow "thick skin"
@@lynnettelove11 I’ve had that scenario so many times! It’s always such a pleasure 😶.

It's amazing what a little bit of sympathy and a kind gesture can do for a person!
AAAA this is too heartwarming lol 😊

It basically went like:
"Do you have an Account with us?"
"Yes! It's blah blah blah, and I also have that punch-hole card!"
"Okay, great!" Holds out hand for the card...
"... What are you doing?"
"I need the card so I can hole-punch it."
"I don't have it WITH me..."
I had to explain to him that I need to SEE the card or else he won't get his free baths. He told his wife to bring the dogs in the car and instead was paying for both washes, so 30 bucks basically. He then goes on this rant about how we've never asked before, it should be in the system (hint, hint, it's not), and that he's never dealt with this before. I'm trying to explain to him how our policy works and he's just raising his voice, now yelling and swearing and insulting me... over a dog bath-
There were other customers there too, the entire store just let him yell and I swear he was going to hit something LMAO
Told my manager and she told me that she's gonna tell the other stores too so... Don't yell at simple retail workers, you might get black listed smh

One time I watched the Line to make sure they were making it without sour cream. They made it properly.
The second the owners leave the parking lot, after the dogs have been in play group for 20 minutes and have gone potty, the owners call us and say "by the way they both have giardia. Giardia is very contagious! We got the dogs out of group and they couldn't be in play group for the entire stay. The owners then asked US to pick up the dogs prescription for said giardia. Fun 👍

I feel bad for the kid but, TTG kinda sucks... like, it's not the worst show ever, and the og TT isnt THAT amazing but, that dude has issues.
@@nosrin1988 Its like yugioh zexal (or... any of the "hated" parts of franchises) yes it may be bad but its not specifically horrendous, and there is a fanbase for those shows, so we need to coexist with these people, inside and outside of media-based communities
I love absurdism, my daughter used to like TTG. I got quite a few chuckles out of it. No regerts.

The worst customer experience I had was:
I had just begun working at Walmart (yes, I know, Walmart bad.) as a deli clerk.
I told her I’m not a decorator and that we couldn’t take her order, so she EXPLODED at me and started SCREAMING full tilt that she needed this cake and that she was going to call corporate over it because apparently I was “A lazy idiot that was denying her service over nothing”
After that my manager stepped in and told her exactly the same things I did, to which she then turns around and YELLS at the crowd of people that the bakery is full of idiots and that there’s no orders so f*ck customer service, basically just ranting and raving and making a huge scene as she stomped away about cakes and idiot workers
As a baker and cake decorator, I feel this...

@cxriander8514 I work in a family business, so we get to "cater" our clientele, but we do get people making very annoying requests.

"it's my kids. what do you want me to do, beat them?" is such a heinous response.
Some rooms we have to put out for weeks to get fully deep cleaned, aired out, new things like carpet or mattresses.

when i worked at a bakery, a lady placed a pick up order for two dozen cupcakes, and then pre paid for them over the phone. a bit later, she decided to change one of the dozens to gluten free, which cost .25 cents more each, so we refunded her for the original dozen, and she said she'd have her husband pay for the new one when he came to get it.
the husband arrives, and I let him know he needs to pay for the gf dozen before he leaves. he proceeds to scoff at me, claim i’m trying to SCAM him because "WE ALREADY PAID"!! so i ask, "didn’t you recieve a refund for the other dozen?" he says "YES!!!" and SHOWS ME HIS BANK STATEMENT OF THE REFUND.....AND STILL TELLS ME I’M TRYING TO DOUBLE CHARGE HIM! i am baffled. he calls his wife and puts her on speaker phone and starts loudly telling her how i'm trying to scam them and is smiling and laughing at me like a crazed lunatic, and she’s just like "honey idek what you’re talking about just come home".
Facist is very extreme. Btw, I’d 100% support you if you closed the doors when she was planning on leaving, and open them when she’s not.

Meanwhile, the mother was overly relaxed, putting the candy back and telling the kid calmly; "You shouldn't do this honey."
I consider myself to be quite forgiving, and overly resilient. Even a bit of a pushover quite frankly. But one thing I can't handle? Entitled ass hats and screaming children. Though, I can't just throw the kid in the trashcan if I want to keep my job. And thus, malicious compliance occurs.
Me: "Hey, mother. Just leave the candy up there."
Mother: "Uh... alright?"
Candy lands on the belts of the registers, and the kid gets overly excited once he realizes the candy is going towards me.
You'd make a great supervillain you know that?
Haha the mother must have been so thankful

Hope that kid learned to swim eventually. :|

You would think so but a certain home improvement store wouldn’t let employees buy cull lumber or give them a discount.
Do you want the same thing to happen to *your* kid?”
She was speechless for a solid 30 seconds before she started cursing at the officer as she speed-walked away with her kids arm in hand.
I worked at a library and I've had my fair share of bad experiences with patrons but the one I remember the most is this one:
One day while I was working at the front desk, this old woman came in with a service dog.
Their rights are a smidgen unclear since they sort of got tacked on later, and technically aren’t included in the legal definition of “service animal.” They do have public access rights and all that though. :)

I swear people that work in customer service need more recognition because the amount of stupidity we have to go through with some people.
Yea, a disturbing amount of people suffer from "chronic stupid" -as I call it
Additional tangent, I have often been regarded as "very self conscious" -which I now recognize.

Maybe they heard all the horrible retail stories and thought to help make some random gal’s day just a little more bearable

No way that’s absolutely absurd
It truly was the worst possible outcome.
the bad ending if you will
Good grief, tipping culture is the absolute WORST. I'm so sorry y'all had to deal with that and get stiffed on top of it.
bro I would've tipped extra since y'all tried so hard and it wasn't your fault
they should have tipped more for you guys getting assaulted
I would’ve tipped double for you having to deal with that… holy smokes
What does school have to do with cutting your arms open on purpose?
@ I’m gonna be honest i have no idea. I think she was thinking that she dropped out of school because she was working? Idk
Ah, yes, the perfect lesson to teach your kid. Seriously tho, if that kid ends being mentally ill we all know how the mom is gonna react
@@arcage_0132 I think the mom thought those were scars from doing drugs. like needle marks. thats the only thing that makes sense to me

Man....sometimes i don't understand ppl
Quality story. Worth reading the paragraph.🤣
that was a rollercoaster, thank you for sharing
Ugh I wish I knew what sort of job I could get that isn't front-facing. I've worked retail for over a decade and two years ago I just up and quit. Couldn't take the abuse anymore, not from customers, not from management. I've been out of work and attending therapy since then and I don't know what to do for a job going forward. Figured I could try streaming, but I'd need something at least part-time to bring in money until (or if) that takes off.
I'm sorry you had to deal with someone harassing you like that. I started snapping back at people prior to quitting and it really felt good.
I’ve worked multiple customer service jobs:
For my first job, I worked at a mall in a small women’s clothing shop. When things got slow, we were supposed to take the trash out and I often volunteered so I could go for a walk.
The thing is, we had to take this sketchy backrooms looking hallway to the trash & recycling receptacles (they were outside in front of the mall). It was very often that I would see customers entering by this hall even though the doors said “employees only”
One summer day, I was taking out the trash when some guy on his bike was passing by.
That's a freaking horror story holy crap
@@vdawg4109 Why is it so often some random dude on a bike? I have a similar story. So creepy.

My co worker, the manager and I all gave each other a look like "WOW!"
After that, the lady checked out her things and left with a smile on her face and right after she left, my old co worker came up to me (6ft apart of course) and told me what the lady said to her while she was checking out.
@@ewoklord-726 I told them about the lightning dangers several times. They were just block heads.

I told her, “Sorry, we don’t sell wine on Sundays.”
She said, “That is NOT the law! The new law states that anywhere can sell alcohol every day!” Or something like that.
And I say, “I’m sorry but it’s store policy. I think it has to do with the church next door.”
“Well Kroger sells it every day of the week!” I said I’m sorry and mentioned again that it’s store policy. So she goes back to the wine aisle with what she brought and comes back with a four pack of mini wines!
She says in a very snarky tone, “Is this considered wine.”
I look at her with an exhausted expression and say, “Yes.
@@firo729 The thing is, we even had a giant cardboard sign that said no wine sales on Sunday. So the customer was just really dumb
I HATE these people. "Well X store sells it" OK then why didnt you go there???
There was one time a couple years back I was working at a hardware store, I had someone stop me while I walking back to my department and the interaction went something like this
"Unlock this for me, i need a drill"
"Okay, let me get on the store phone I'll call someone over with a key"
"No, *YOU* will help me"
"I have to call someone from hardware over, they dont give me a key because I work in wood"
"I know they give you all keys, I've seen it before, you guys are just lazy and don't want to help people"
"Well they never gave me a key, would you like me to text my supervisor, they might have one"
"No, you can't just pawn me off on someone else, do your job"
It went on like this until someone from hardware walked by and unlocked the cage for them and they scowled at me and said "This would have been so much faster if you just helped me instead of trying to find an excuse to get out of it"
Should've just brought your key. smh.
/s
This is why I couldn't work retail. I'd have screamed. What part of I DO NOT HAVE A KEY are you too stupid to comprehend???
Y'know, a lot of times I see these true stories, and I wonder, maybe some of these people are just having a bad day. I'm not stupid, a lot of people are jerks just cuz, but that doesn't mean all of them are. Now, I don't agree with what they do, especially not in this case but maybe they have (albeit poor) reasons.
@ yeahh lmao
I think a lot of people overestimate how much big chains trust their employees. Most of the time, if you don't explicitly need access to something, you don't have access
I can't even tell you how many times I have to explain to people "I'm not a cashier, i can't just 'jump on a register real quick' because i don't have access"
Edit: RUclips fix your mobile app please
Replies work only about half the time for seemingly no reason, the app has gotten so bad over the past year i swear
At that point you just mime getting out a key ring and "unlocking" the cage before going "Huh, weird! my key isn't working! let me call someone else over"
It's petty and probably wouldn't go over well in reality (unless your supervisors are extremely chill) but man. the sheer stupidity and stubbornness of the general public is baffling sometimes

Some of my personal favorites from over the years are as follows:
-People driving through the car wash and breaking it on a regular basis, to the point where the common reaction to this happening is a heavy sigh.
The amount of people I've had to tell that we don't do passports and then go "bUt YoUrE a PoSt OfFiCE" like yes, on a technicality, just the same as we are a bar on a technicality but you don't see me making a much needed Cosmo rn do ya
-you cannot fill a milk jug, a milk carton, a large water bottle, or a WHITE GARBAGE BAG with gasoline.
6:57 as far as I know, isn't that exactly how an auction house works?
Gotta love Cod zombies😊
its like an auction house but you never have to pay anything, so they’ll just be screaming there for hours
Why quit working at that corral and pursue a different job if most jobs include having to listen to other Karens like her?
@@zay827 She might have to my knowledge, but I don't know. I genuinely wasn't aware of him even having issues with his groceries. I just knew he was there because I passed him prior to grabbing the carts I was retrieving before that incident
I work at a bird seed store (we don’t sell birds, just the seed) we were out of a very specific type of seed for about a year because the company couldn’t make large amount due to supply chain issues that started during COVID.
she walked in and started yelling at us to get the product in more consistently. I told her there was nothing we could do about it because the manufacturer wasn’t making enough product to meet current demands.
she kept telling me to basically fix it anyway. she bought her stuff and left. one of my co workers said that she has done this exact thing before with other employees where she freaks out if she doesn’t get what she wants.
i didn’t even know bird seed stores were a thing 😭😭😭
We called the cops and he was arrested.
you have to wonder what the hell has their life been like to teach them to be so angry all the time
We had a customer once who came in after placing an order over the phone. My boss then calmly had to explain to her that we can’t know what she wants over the phone if she gives minimal description and just says one word
After she left we made jokes about telepathy

I hope that boy's okay.
yeah honestly that's the kind of mom that will be left at a nursing home and will never be visited by thier son again
I remember during one of my first days of working at my current job, I was walking around the aisles, organizing products on the shelves when two ladies walk up to me and one asks me,
“Do you know where this specific product is?”
Me, being the new worker, gave an honest no, mainly because there wasn’t another worker nearby that I could see. Then, this lady raised her voice as she proceeded to say,
“Well you work here, so you should know!”
Luckily, one of my coworkers overheard and came to help the two ladies. Yes, I’m aware she couldn’t have known I was new, but at the same time, when is it ever ok to raise your voice at someone who is just trying to do their job?!
Your job didn't have "Trainee" name tags? :(

I get those all the time…
As someone who is a cashier
Edit: I’ll chime in with one of my experiences involving alcohol and for context at my job scanning ID for alcohol wasn’t a requirement until a few months later when I started working because other stores failed the sting operations and we were one of the few stores that didn’t
It’s a normal working day and my coworker takes a break and decides to sit in the back and later 2 girls walk in one of them was an older woman and the other worked for the same company I was in but in a different location the older woman grabs a beer without letting her friend know and puts it behind her jacket she left on the counter when they grabbed everything one of them asked for cigarettes and I asked for ID because beer was there and the young woman flips out!
And yes the young woman who works for the same company flipped out and started yelling at me and my co worker in the back starts yelling back and they have a yelling match for 5 minutes and when I finally get a word in I explained that “the reason I asked for ID was because beer was brought to the counter”
She stops yelling, grabs her ID, and pays for it and her and her friend leave and I letted my boss know I don’t remember what happened after that but that’s what happened
NEVER apologise. Just deadpan look at them. If they're old enough to drive, and to drink, they should know the rules by now. Nothing to get sulky over unless you're breaking em.
The guy drove his motor scooter into the store?
I mean, if he had a full on grey beard, there's a difference. That's why the UK only ID's "if you LOOK under 25"
I get asked to show ID every time.
Sorry, missing context on what your job was/is? Did he bring plants to your establishment or want to buy all these plants?

I love when they include parking just to fluff up the list. As if parking is an arduous task that doesn't take like a minute at most.
Holy fucking shit dude, reading this nearly gave me an anyurism
PUT A SPACE AFTER EVERY COMMA AND PUNCTUATION. Fucking doodoo head
To be fair that is a weird policy so I would be frustrated too, but there's no need to take it out on the employees
@mallk238 exactly, like, yes dude, that is how getting to a store with a vehicle works,it tends to require you to park
