Your culture is so loving! You are very blessed!
I'm a history teacher, it is so cool to see a tradition like this still very much alive.
And we are glad to know one 😊
Ohh believe me.. its very much alive. Just check The Hu and their works.
Yes it gives me a strange urge to go pillaging
Nah but all jokes aside I love their work though. Very unique and oddly satisfying in a way too.
@bruceberry. Right? It reminds me of what a museum guide once said about the aboriginal dotted paintings: some were doing their typical art about the dreamtime but with acrylic paint on modern canvas and became very popular and earned good money with art. But 'art professionals' still put their art in the 'folkloristic' category. It had completely developped into another art branche and was both modern and using things that were called 'folklore' or tribal or indiginious or what have you: meaning -Not white- . But then some master thesis was written about the correct terminology and now that modern aboriginal art was placed in some conceptual modern category not in the historic folklore category. Im like I dont care what its called its just the idea that cultures have new versions of their own legacies. And its not folklore but vivid alive and shape shifting and telling stories of this generation. / I also like European folklore used in a modern shape like Nightwish uses celtic sounds ('into the wild') or Within Temptation using gregorian background choirs.
@@addhoc256 That is true!
This is how you take tradition and modern and you do not lose the beauty in the tradition.
Their producer was looking for over 9 years to get this sound.
im actually a professor of theology, and this bears a remarking resemblance to ancient vikingry

@@timperson2032 You're welcome Tim. The Mongolian language has nothing similar to the Chinese language. Our alphabets have been changed throughout of history but our language is part of Altai language group. Our traditional alphabet (used from the 13th century to the 20th century) comes from the Uighur alphabet which they borrowed from the Sogdians. Our current alphabet is Cyrillic since 1948. In the 1920s, 30s and until 1948 Mongolia used Latin as our alphabet.

On the acoustical version of this song, commenter Gerelt-Od Gotsbayar says this about the word:
"Shireg (ᠰᠢᠷᠢᠭᠢ) is kind of "magical" word used during ritual we Mongolians do when baby child get afraid of something. When babies afraid of something and can't tell their parents, only fathers allowed do this "ritual", for find culprit and "kill" it, for make sure it's no longer threat for them. There are some variations, sometimes, they throw salt into fire. But mostly they use candle (In ancient times, when there was no candle, they used copper). Fathers melt candle into candle oil (or it called wax?) on furnace. While mother or someone holding baby, father put oil into spoon or something, and circle it clockwise, 3 times over their baby, tells "shireg shireg", along with other blessing words like in this song. Then they pour candle oil into cup of water, and I don't know how it works, but figure/shape of culprit (things which made baby afraid) appears exactly on water made by oil itself. Human beings, animals, stuffed toys, lego, furnitures, shadow, or even cloud, it can be any thing. Fathers show it to babies and tell them, he throwing it away, do not afraid any more. Then he breaks shape in front of babies eye, then throws it away. Wonderfully it works and baby sleep well."
Sorry this is long but it's very interesting to me. I thought others might find it interesting too.

Yo! I appreciate the guy that asked for a solo throat singing demonstration. That was the most concise demo of everything that throat singing is that I've seen.
They are so amazing, these are ancient traditions.
It's amazing how with throat singing you can growl like a wolf or trill like a bird, hum like a theremin or thrum like a digeridoo. And sometimes all at once! I had no idea the human voice was capable of all that! The Hu were my introduction to throat singing fusions, and they are phenominal!
Tengo entendido que la cultura del pueblo Mongol son grandes músicos desde antaño y el canto de garganta lo hacían principalmente porque lo consideran una forma de conectar con la naturaleza.
Y valla que si lo es, yo quisiera poder hacerlo :'3
With certain songs I try to match their growls or whatever they're doing and I typically end up wrecking my voice for a bit. It's absolutely crazy what these guys can pull off.

1 yr later and it still blows my fucking mind when i hear them live! FUCKING AMAZING!!
They are all professional musicians and their music and voices are authentic, not studio produced like most of music of these days. Pride is in the air
Look, I spent years in choir and music theory and yet never heard of throat singing until last week. This song right here is now one of 2 of my all time favorite songs; it's absolutely incredible, and The HU need SO much more credit than they currently receive. It's absolutely breathtaking.

Hey @jastin duck. I am a Mongolian. In our tradition and history, we've never judged and insulted people based on their race, religion, nationality and even sexual orientation. It's proven by the ruins of our ancient city Karakhorum where Shamanism, Buddhist, Christian, Muslim and Dao churches co-existed peacefully together, meaning our kings had really liberal mindsets. So you don't need to be worried, our kings wouldn't have been upset with them
I know right. I’ve read some Mongolian history and Ghengis Khan never judged people on their culture or background but on their abilities as a person.
Yes he was a pillaging mass murdering maniac but he was also a man who thinks ahead of his time.
@@antislutful I suggest you to read the books called 'The secret history of Mongols' and 'Chinggiss khaan and the making of the modern world''. Also to visit Mongolia to know our nomadic lifestyle and philosophy. Chinggiss khaan just wanted to become trading partners with the Western countries but those countries killed and sent our merchants head back to our king and said they didn't want to trade with barbarians. This happened 3 times and 900 ordinary merchants and traders were killed and our people were insulted. Then he started the war with Western countries. But on his way instead of killing thousands of people, he killed one or two people in an aggressive way and showed it thousands of people and said it was their future if they fight back. By doing this he saved millions of people' lives. It is actually a real humanitarian way compared to killing millions invisibly.
Part of that is because Ghengis Khan was a genius, and moreover, a military genius at that. He knew that to truly rule a conquered people, first you had to understand them and how they think to defeat them in battle, but then you had to accommodate and respect them in order for them to follow your rule.
