Cheers from the United States as well. I'm glad that the rest of the world is finally starting to experience some of your culture. Like many in the world, I was ignorant of Mongolian traditional music and now I am gaining an appreciation for it.

I think the instrument is actually called "morin khuur", which would directly translate to "horsehead fiddle" :D

That horse effect is one of the coolest things I've seen someone do with a musical instrument.
You can do it too with an electric guitar high gain distortion on a whammy bar

Henry Wasden alien weaponry was the other band I had in mind. Especially as a white guy with Native American heritage

In that case you should checkout Wagakki band from Japan. They play with a mix of traditional (Shakuhachi, Shamisen, Koto and Wadaiko drums) and modern instruments (bass, guitar, drums) and Yuko Suzuhana uses a traditional style of singing. The Mongolian Language is really nice
I noticed that although each individual player was good, what really stood out was when they played together. Their music is greater than the sum of its parts. I love their music, and it's good to see a group with something new to offer.
I pray for Hu that they never lose their rich Mongolian heritage. I love the bold, courageous spirit.

I found The HU when they only had Yuve Yuve Yu on spotify, and i loved them since the get go. Every time they’d release a new song I would burst in excitement. I’m so happy they’re now getting the recognition they deserve.
Caught these guys at aftershock and can honestly say the were one of the best performances all weekend and for sure the most pleasantly surprising
They were awesome at Aftershock! I was in the front so I couldn't tell how big the crowd was. Saw the pics and was blown away. They should have been at a bigger stage.

Im 57. Been in to metal since Black Sabbath appeared on TV in the 70s. I also play guitar. That being said, this has got to be one of the best sounds I've hear in a VERY long time. Even without the screaming guitars and traditional drum kit, these guys make music to be proud of. I dont know how long they've been out but I will be watching for more from them. Plus Im pretty sure I'll be going to their concert in KC in April. Only thing that will keep me from it would be scheduling conflict.
I've tried adding in my guitar and making some complex stuff that sounds good, but not as good as the simpler things I've come up with. Their sound screams to keep it simple. In this age of speed guitarists and bassists along with drums that become the music, the simplicity is overwhelmingly refreshing in metal. Bravo!
This is one of the bands that make me amazed at the things humanity can do.

Saw them playing the last year in a small club in Berlin FOR FREE. After the concert, people opened the way for them to pass because the place was super crowded. I remember me drinking my water a lil bit distant from the stage, when suddenly I saw those big guys passing in front of me, and I don't know with which confidence but my hand moved and I high-fived each one of them, screaming "HU, HU, HU". Everyone was screaming too hahaha
When you think you've already seen and heard everything, then, casually you discover, that there is also Mongolian folk-rock music ... Mongolian rock ??!
Yes, and what music !!! A combination of traditional instruments and a voice that Axel Rose cannot imitate, they are a fantastic excerpt. Slow rhythms and low tones attack something rough, animalistic, which has remained in every one of us since prehistoric times. I love you guys !!!
Metal is always evolving and changing and that’s what keeps it relevant since 1969. Some don’t like the new waves and some do. I can’t see how anyone would dislike this ! This is such a cool and refreshing take on metal.
In a way its coming back full circle with a twist.

Mongolian chads , can probably speak english , choose to speak mongolian anyway , can play riffs from other songs , choose to play their riffs only , play metal music but they dont need expensive effects or amps they just play their traditional instruments ,oh you play folk metal? well they play metal folk , loved and admired by all music listeners world wide regardless of genre ,only need 3-2 strings unplugged to rock , 8 strings are for virgins , only sing in their native language , relevant lyrics related to their mother land,coming from a proud nation of great invaders , would use their ethnic music to invade the world again , the chaddest , most based most red pilled band ever . these guys are a breathe of fresh air.

I like everything that you said other than insulting virgins. There's nothing wrong with being a virgin, and is shouldn't be used to try to insult or shame someone. (I'm almost 51 and haven't been a virgin since I chose to lose it at age 16, for those who might try to say otherwise.)

Rock on, my Mongol brothers! I began to gain a deep appreciation of that distinct Mongolian sound only recently, which started with the group Khosugtun (sp?) from Asia's Got Talent show in 2014. Since then, I'm hooked.

Found these guys for the first time last summer when i listened to their Song Yuve Yuve Yu and i've been hooked ever since.

Something about these traditional Mongolian instruments is very satisfying to my ears.
I think I first stumbled across Wolf Totem a little under a year ago. I was instantly smitten with The Hu. I'm so happy these guys are blowing up; anyone with functional ears can tell it's well deserved.

Being a musician for 30yrs (guitar, bass, keyboard, vocals, and most recently violin) this was pretty...unique for lack of better term to see/hear, when the vocals started I immediately thought of Rammstein. I can appreciate this band/music.

Came here for instruments, and stayed for the awesome band and great talent, i love when people use their own culture and mix with metal.
Even though I cannot understand the language, and probably wont meet them anytime soon, they all seem to be fairly genuine people and a band I wouldn't mind seeing live.
They just remember one good friend from Mongolia. Thamir, his name. We worked in a warehouse products from MD. And him told me about the good mongolian metal bands in 2008. He cameback home 6 years ago.

When i was little my Dad used to listen to a group call Huun Huur Tu. Never thought I'd now be listening to throat singing through choice.
I love this band so much. so good. and Ive said it before but im BLOWN away by the symbolism of their instruments and the fact they can actually make the horse sound.

I've heard Turkmenistan and Mongolian traditional musics years before and I gotta say they have lot of potential to be heavy and hard. This band made my dream come true and made this possible greatly!
I have seen people play multiple instruments at the same time, but I have never seen a whole band playing multiple instruments at the same time. All of them are playing their instruments and using their throat singing as the second instrument. The main vocalist is even more impressive as he is playing his fiddle, throat singing, and sings the lyrics all at the same time.
The Great Mongolian culture lives on through the music of The Hu.

Korea has been effectively a pop nation through USA's influence only since like Soviet fall. Meanwhile, i wouldn't say Mongolia is a rock nation but mongolian instruments do have some rockish tone and instrument itself hasn't changed a little for many centuries.

@@Todsor Korea and Mongolia folk music have same style. Korea has Gayageum and in Mongolia we have the Yatga. Mongolia has always mixed Oriental sounds in the music and singing with more native american shaman chanting style.
Korea just forget their ancestry because their nation had war, and was colonized by Japan and America so they forgot their own ancestry and rapidly industralized. Mongolia always has had strong ethnic pride and never forget their roots, also maybe because Mongolia had a proud history of being warriors and rulers, while Korea has more tragic history of being servants and enslaved. The same reason why African-Americans do not use African tribal music.

I'm getting the same vibe with this band like I did in 1980 when Blizzard of Oz came out, or in 1984 when Thriller came out. Or in 1989 when MC Hammer release U can't Touch this. Or in 1992 when Nevermind came out of nowhere, or when Clint Eastwood from Gorillaz played, or when Du Hast came on the radio. This is something new and primal. This is a new experience for everyone. And it is awesome. These guys are taking their traditions into the world at large and blending the influence with the world's own existing styles. What is coming out of it is amazing. Exactly what used to be a regular occurrence but is now rare. Real music. Real new. Not copied and not fake. This is true music. And it doesn't need a huge Hollywood budget to be awesome. I'm so glad the world is paying attention.
The Hu are fantastic
That little nubbin of a horn or tusk on the fiddle the guy in the middle is playing is placed exactly where the lower horn of a strat would be. That is an awesome touch by whoever designed that instrument. It. Appears they aren't pressing the string down to contact the board. In fact, in the description for those instruments, it says the do not have a fingerboard. That's pretty crazy they get that much tone from just touching the string similar to what we do when hitting harmonics on an electric guitar.
This whole video is super calming. The HU really are a great, unique band.

I’m currently in Mongolia learning the language. I highly encourage anyone who wants to experience it to come when they can, and if you can find a teacher online or somewhere in the States, absolutely try to learn the morin khuur! I am unsure if there are any craftsmen in the US, but the instrument is highly worth it. Branch out too! I’ve really gotten into powwow music and modern Native music too like DJ Shub. There’s so much music out there and our soundscape can be so much bigger than it is even now!
I love how they can just slide into Wolf Totem w/o drums to be any less bombastic- and the throat singing effortlessly. And they have no idea of how great they are.
I like what they are doing with the music, mixing the traditional with the new style riffs. I also think that they are doing what for traditional folk and rock music what Nightwish is doing with Metal and Operatic themed music for their respective genres. My wife introduced me to this band a year ago and I think they are great. I wish them well.
