Hello!
Recently on Reddit, I posted a poll about which video I should make: / hordecore
Taking the votes into account, also interests of my friends who wanted to learn Mongolian throat singing, I present you "how to throat sing in 3 easy steps!" =)
It might take some dedication to get it better, it could be a bit challenging for girls but personally, I've seen a live show of a Tuvan woman, musician, and artist Sainkho, who can do a few forms of this culture. Another person was a female student I met a few years ago. She used to learn how to play morin khuur with a few boys when she was young, the boys were learning khoomei. They teased her that she can't sing it because she is a girl, so she got irritated and practiced morin khuur with khoomei at home. After some time, it seems she was able to sing as well as any other person. There is another woman who can sing it as well, she plays in Tuvan folk-rock band Yat-Kha :)
In any case, let me know in the comments below if you have questions or ideas. Oh, one detail I forgot to mention in the video is that this type of singing is specifically called "kargyraa". The other one is called "isgeree"(or sygyt in Tuvan) is quite difficult to learn, I still haven't mastered it fully. The intro music was done originally by ElectroKaplosion - coffin dance music with Mongolian theme, a super cool dude, check out his channel :D - / electrokaplosion

At first: Thanks for the heart. Second question: Is that name written on your passport?
Unless you take a trip to Mongolia.
To add, I think for us English speakers, it will not sound as good. Part of it, I think, is that it's a language that works for the style and maybe it sounds good because the language he is singing in is so foreign. Now, people have done cool throat singing in english, but it's more difficult methinks
His name is Bartozig.

I practiced this on the street like you said and the cops were called on me. And then I got my very own padded soundproof room to practice in. Worked like a charm. Thanks.

I caught myself doing the same. It's 23:34... I'm in the living room, people in the house woke up and my dogs were whining.
I started practicing along with the video while inside a Panera. I'm getting looks.

I finally learned how to throat sing, now all I need to do is learn Mongolian
*RIGHT????!!!*
Thanks Batman. I’ve been a big fan of various throat singing styles for decades. Finally found some one who can teach it. I’ve played guitar for the last 30 years, but never could sing worth spit. This is going to be fun, & it’s going to freak my friends & family out. Can’t wait.
So here’s what I can afford right now. And again thanks.
Whoah dude! Thank you my man! That means a lot to me! I get the surge of power to do more! :D
This dude right here literally taught me throat singing in 5 minutes or less. *AND IT'S FREE*

Honestly, I completely lost him at the "golden frequency" part. What is it and how can I achieve it?
Sibila's channel gave a more descriptive approach by starting with the throat clearing sound
And he has beautiful hair..wow❤
Maybe so, but you could probably already do it anyway; you just didn't realise.

Tip : If you know khöömei, it makes it much easier to learn sygyt, which makes it easier to learn khovu chylandyk, which makes it much easier to learn khovu kargyraa, which makes it much easier to learn dag kargyraa, which makes it easier to learn dag chylandyk. If you're a metal vocalist, khöömei can be directly translated into a "arytenoid" fry scream (technically the arytenoids and false-folds, the two main terms are misnomers) and dag kargyraa can be directly translated into a false-cord scream (again, misnomer. Uses the arytenoids, false-folds, and the aryepiglottic folds).
Those are some pretty cool words you got there.
what?

The slight awkwardness followed by actual talent makes this quite the masterpiece
My cousin taught himself to do this without any tutorial. He just came over one day and said “look what I can do!” And started throat singing and said he just imitated what he saw on tv or something and was proud of being the only one in the family who could do it.... he’s in for a surprise this thanksgiving 😈
That’s what i did
Just got a name for something I used to play around with to entertain myself when alone. Not sure if I'm good or not but can make a lot of weird sounds. Can also whistle perfectly when inhaling and exhaling, something I also though was normal till someone asked me how big my lungs are when I mindlessly started whistling whilst doing maintenance on a machine
haha that's how me and my bro's learned too - one bro just started and we looked at him and copied!

Accidentally discovered throat singing while experimenting with low metal vocals. Go figure.
Thanks for that @nigahiga tribute in the intro. Intentional or not, you nailed it. It took me back to his OG “How to -“ videos. Perfect positive energy setting to start a tutorial, thanks mate! ☯️

"A message for anyone who is feeling a bit of pain in the beginning*
It is better to stop singing when you feel pain and let your throat rest for the day. Come back to it tomorrow for a minute or two. If it starts hurting again, you know the drill, let your body rest. In a few days, it will feel natural to throat sing and you won't feel any discomfort :D
My thought on why it hurts is that, in the beginning, probably, we use a certain part of our throat that is not used at all. So, its development is probably close to that of an infant, maybe. It starts to mature when we actively use it. That's my theory, but if there is anyone who knows human anatomy well, please do leave a comment below about this :D
Thanks, that was actually immensely helpful. Because most teachers say that when it hurts you're doing it wrong. I found your statement to be true though, it gets better with training!
ok
it was starting to hurt a bit you know like after a big party your voice's gone. glad i scrolled trhough instead of continuing
When it starts hurting it's because you're using your vocal cords too harshly, you will get used to it with time, but it you keep doing it when it hurts you can cause permanent vocal damage, and lose the ability to talk. So be careful.
Any tips for death metal vocals? The techniques are pretty much the same, i can seem to throat sing, but i’ve been trying to do death metal vocals for months and im still not there.
Metal growling and throat singing are very similar😅. No Joke, they have the same basics or at least very similar basics
Really? I have always had this impression that growling requires a person to be a bit forceful with their voice? I don't know much on how to achieve growling sound tho :O
@@Hachapuri69 quite the opposite, its very technical rather than forceful
I'm actually doing a paper on both of these the link they have
@Hachapuri the best growlers don't strain their vocal chords. Check out Jinjir (any of her songs are impressive, but the studio recording of Pisces is by far the most popular.)
@@morielrorschach8090 Also Ben Duerr from Shadow of Intent. I think his lows are a good example of how he uses the Golden Vibration to growl. I figured out how to do it by trying to do a bass "thump" as far down in my throat as I could go. I think to do a deathcore growl you have to compress your note a little more then add the distortion.
Question.... Will this help me to serve the Padishah Emperor?
Real-talk though I'm a singer and wanted to figure this out, you literally got me making the sound in seconds. Props man!
Hi there Batman,
thank you very much for this video. I've listened to Mongolian throat singing for a very long time now but it never crossed my mind that I could actually try this myself. Thank soo much. 😊
I’m a quarter of Mongolian and I’m a beginner and it’s getting better everyday
Must be the ability being awakened in the blood xD
Wait, I always did that as a kid! It always freaked my family out when I talked like that, so I kept doing it all the time. I called it the Gollum voice. (no idea why, Gollum did not at all have a voice like that in the movies).
Turns out I WAS a genius child after all! Take that, mother!
Ghollum does throat singing while coughing - Ghollum! xD
Whenever youre the first guy to do something people always think its weird
Ya know...I figure that people who could do this would have been burned at the stake for being minions of the devil in times past. In some parts of the world...might easily still happen.

I watched this video a month ago and never got past step 2. Then earlier tonight I was walking alone and let out a sigh that I knew caught that golden vibration. From there it all came together and I suddenly figured out how to make that sound.
Finally found it about twenty minutes ago!! It's so interesting how you just *know* when you hit the perfect combination of vibration and sound. Feels totally different. Thank you. Have been trying to figure it out for 15 years. I was entranced by the very first time I heard throat singing and always hoped I would be able to mimic this beautiful expression of the vocal instrument.
The nigahiga intro was a perfect nostalgia trip, thx!
Thank you so much!! I still sound terrible but now I know how I can improve myself!!! All the previous tutorials I watched on the matter weren't targeting the false chord a way that worked for me, and this "tired sound" tip I already found in a growl tutorial is sooo efficient :D
WoW, amazing.
That really helped.

I am amazed by throat singing ever since I saw a small mongolian throat singing group perform in the streets in my home town.
THX a LOT man!
Watching this at 3am… so cool.
You’ve got good vibes man😎
Glad to find your video. I figured the "golden vibration" was a key factor because when I would hit it my voice instantly became way louder. The breathing from the diaphragm is still a bit hard as is adding low notes. Any tips for those? High notes are definitely easier for me. Also question for you. Whats the difference between the various styles of Asian throat singing, and what is it that separates the Scandinavian throat singing from the others?
Heeey! Thank you for your feedback! :D
My friend noticed that I was mispronouncing the word "diaphragm", its a bit embarrassing but lesson learned xD
Anyways, I believe you will get used to breathing with it over time. Maybe try breathing with diaphragm and throatsinging as long as you can with one go. If you can continue doing it, I think your body will get used to it quite fast :D
About low notes, I have no idea, maybe it will come in time when you get comfortable with this singing style?
Central Asian (Turkic, Mongolian and Tibetan) throat singing styles usually don't differ that much. Canadian natives seem to have a unique singing style and also Sardinians. I have no idea about Scandinavians tho :O
Saamii people's yoik singing style is present in Mongolia but practiced by very few individuals, I think :S
