  • Dodge Hornet GT 2.0 Turbo test drive. This Hornet & Charger EV will be the future of Dodge in 2025+ - Let's see how it drives. The current Dodge Charger & Challenger are no longer available to buy which leaves the Hornet GT / RT to pick up the sales numbers. As of right now, according to MoparInsiders the Hornet is the slowest selling car currently on the Market.
    What do you think of the Dodge Hornet? is it worth the price tag & would you ever consider trading in your car for it? Let me know in the comments.

      I've been screaming that exact same sentiment for nearly a decade. The 5.7 hemi got VVT and a 30 horsepower bump in 2009 and it has been making the same power and torque since. SRT badged vehicles got a horsepower bump with the 6.4 hemi in 2011i, and 4 years later they nudged it an additional 10 horsepower. The 5.7 in the cars is the red headed stepchild of the hemi family.

    I can see what Stellantis is doing with Dodge here. Dodge has been killing it over the years with their lineup, but their lineup has become more and more performance-oriented to the point where they were going too hard in that direction and eating the EPA's fines. In the past, they had more economical vehicles in the lineup, but they tanked in sales due to bad decision-making with the design and quality issues. Dodge needed something that would allow them to reenter that market segment. Given that crossovers and SUVs are selling the most, it made sense for them to bring out the Hornet. However, The problem is that they are so well known now for their muscular performance that this kind of vehicle is a turnoff to the base of consumers they've been catering to. They should have done things differently.
    They probably should have based the vehicle off of the Jeep Cherokee instead. It could be shaped closer to that of a shrunken-down Durango, which fits given that the Durango shares the same underpinnings as the Grand Cherokee. They already had a plant building them here in the US, but now that product line has dropped, and the plant has been idle ever since. The Hornet is made in Italy since it is an Alfa. This was a HUGE missed opportunity for them since, with a more Durango-like shape, people would be more willing to consider it. It would have also saved the Cherokee and kept the workers on the assembly line. I don't know if it would be cheaper to build that kind of crossover here or overseas, but with it being based on the Cherokee and made in the US, I would be more willing to trust its longevity. They could have given it all of the same interior features, and when it comes to the drivetrain as a bonus, you get a decently powerful V6 as an option - NA with no GDI or turbo, so less pressure-induced wear, and it sounds better. Ironically, it probably would have been cheaper for them to build them this way than to have them assembled in Europe and shipped all the way here to the US. So much for "Made in the USA" with all that Biden BS... 🙃
    This, along with keeping the 4-door Charger and making it into a wagon, would have been better first steps for bringing Dodge back into the economy market segment. The Charger was still selling well all the way up until the end of 2023 and managed to outlast all of the more basic American cars in its class. Besides the Charger, if you wanted a full-sized sedan that provided a decent ride quality with plenty of room to make it an okay family car, you'd have to step up to a Cadi or something like a Genesis G90. That is really what made the GT SXT versions of that car sale, and since it was such a non-BS type of vehicle in the RT trim, it made for an excellent police cruiser... aside from the Hemi tick ruining the cams and lifters from constant idling and MDS. Nice, simple, and basic without all of the over-the-top features unless you wanted them (get the 300 at that point), and it had sound power output. Dodge should have kept it and reorganized the trim levels. As much as it hurts to see the Hellcat and higher output engines go, they aren't practical for regular drivers and probably would ease the pain of the fines from the EPA standpoint. The GT and SXT could keep the 3.6 but have the 2.0 I4 as an option (less HP than the Pentastar but way more torque and better power down low RPM-wise - can probably be tuned from the factory to put out 300-ish HP fairly reliably since they are pretty solidly built), the RT would keep the 5.7 and get the SO I6 as an upgrade, and the newly reformed SRT would keep the 6.4 and get the HO I6 as an upgrade. The SO I6 would probably get better MPG than the Pentastar, and the I4 would be even better. These engine option and trim level changes could also be applied to the Durango. As far as the Challenger is concerned, I would basically offer the Hurricane engines as options in the same way, but go ahead and keep the Hellcat and higher options since it makes sense, given that it's a sports sedan. If they had gone this route along with making it as a wagon or simply reintroducing it as a next-generation Magnum, they could have given them both 4Xe with bigger batteries for increased range one day and electrified them instead of creating an electric two-door Charger. This would have made WAY more sense considering the market they aim for, and it would have future-proofed these vehicles. An all-electric Dodge Magnum would be sweet, honestly.

    Car and driver ran a 14.2 in the quarter mile with the GT. It's not bad for a CUV that costs around 30 grand. Hell, it will run with a GTI or WRX. The problem with the Hornet is the R/T witch is a plug-in hybrid. It cost up to 55 grand and no one wants it. This is why the sales are slow.

    • @Fade2BlackSS
      @Fade2BlackSS 3 месяца назад +1

      That's around the same quarter mile as the Charger and Challenger SXT and GT. It's actually slightly faster. I ran a 14.5 some years back when I had my 2016 SXT.

    Based on the Alfa Romeo Tonale. Alfas are not known for it's reliability. These Italians are deliberately destroying the American muscle car image. It's not even the performance, the Hornet falls in the sport/hot hatch segment which I love. They're great for conquering the backroads, but this is not what Dodge is all about. They did a complete 180 from what Dodge has built for the brand in the last 20 years. This would be better under the Alfa badge, not a Dodge badge.

    I have a 2023 GT with 921 miles on it. I have owned it since December 30th, so less than 2 months. I am now getting rides to and from work until the dealership can work on it. The battery died Friday morning last week. After getting a jump from a co worker, some dumbass hit a bunch of cones and threw them into my lane and now I have an appointment for the body shop on Mar 15. Never would have happened if the car didnt die. I have been waiting for the front radar which is on back order and an ETA of around April 20th. Went to go to work this Monday, car was dead again. This time, I could get it jump started due to theft deterrent which I couldnt disable with key fob. Dealership said they might be able to look at it tomorrow and if not, mid-March is the earliest they could. I traded a 2019 Ram Warlock which I got brand new and I am now regretting the decision. Just reading all the posts on the Hornet owners page is just depressing. The car looks nice and drives somewhat nice, the trans shifts very hard into and out of 2nd and is now doing it in other gears. I have extended warranty which pays for a rental but thats not until they find out what the issue is and the place I bought it from, I work for a company owned by the same owners so once we find the issue, they might give me a loaner so I am not worried about getting a vehicle once repair is determined. If you like heartaches and pains, but this. If not, do not buy a Hornet.

      @pieswimmer1 I love driving the car don't get me wrong. The radio sounds very good, comfortable ride but the issues with it are just upsetting. And I'm a very patient person. Just found out, I can't get a rental until it gets diagnosed and confirmed a warrantable failure and only then can I get one for only 5 days.
