I WANT TO SCREAM & cry !!!! My toilet has been running FOR WEEKS & Guest coming over for Christmas forced me to search RUclips! THANK YOU SOOOO SOOO MUCH! Seriously!
I guess it doesn't take much to make some people happy.

Hi Leah, I'm a first-time retired female viewer living alone. I selected your video from the ones I searched for by typing "how to fix a running toilet" because your's was the shortest. I'm so glad I did. My toilet just started running earlier today and once I made the "adjustment" you demonstrate in this video, it stopped. Magic! Thank you, so much. I have already subscribed to your channel because I know you just saved me at least a $99 plumber house call fee.
Welcome to the channel
your a very good teacher
Sadly, it didn't work for me. But, I think it's a different issue because jiggling handle doesn't stop it. It SOUNDS like water is running and when I turn the valve off, I don't hear the sound but I don't SEE water running either. Very odd!! I also took the cap off and cleaned it, that didn't work either. Oh well :(
IT TAKES A WOMAN!
Just watched three different guys tell me how to fix a running toilet. Didn’t fix the problem. Then I watched your video and the adjustment screw was the answer! THANK YOU!
I cannot possibly thank you enough! I was able to fix my running toilet within minutes.
I had a running toilet and had asked my husband to check it over a week ago but he hasn’t had time to look at because of his work schedule so after watching this video today, I was able to fix it myself just a few minutes ago. Thanks for sharing.
Same! Just peeked in my husbands office for a screw driver and he said what for? I’m like for our toilet that runs for 4 minutes after filling. Screwed it left a few times and fixed it right up myself. Thank you!
It worked! I followed your directions and no more running water. Thank you!
Time to get a new husband
I’m headed to fix mine in small rr. Then I’ll come back here to figure out how to stop my big rr facet from dripping.
Oh poo! Mine must be an older model bc there’s no screw to turn counter clockwise. I need to remove the shelf that surround toilet so I can see what model number is.
Reminder to viewers who are new to fixing things- The water in the tank is clean water so don’t worry about getting your hands in there, the stuff at the bottom or brownish reddish stuff is just discoloration from minerals in the water. As Leah says, you CAN do this! Be careful to put the tank cover down in a safe place so it will not get broken & you won’t accidentally trip on it. I usually set it in the bathtub while I work on the tank.
I'm not so sure...... Someone could have easily done an upper decker in there.......Leah is a tough old bird and wouldn't mind getting her hands into that regardless, but it's not for everyone........ Please try to be more cautious with your advice in future.

Wait good to know I would never have known that
I'm inclined to believe there are a lot more people that just don't bother to hit that like button after you've shown them how to fix something. You deserve so much more acknowledgement. I'd say 95% of my DIY dilemmas are fixed successfully by your posts. THANK YOU Leah for all the time & effort you put into your channel. Know that you are helping more than you know and may you be blessed with continued success. 🙏💝
I totally agree. I have worked with hand tools most of my life both professionally and at home. Sometimes I just need a refresher and Leah provides that. Her explanations are easy to understand and thorough. Thanks Leah
What a great deed you have done sharing this with everyone! Our toilet would run for like 15 minutes after each flush. My husband tried 2x to fix it and never could! But guess who fixed it?! You and me! Thank you so much! You’re seriously such a help! Plus, it gives women a better name ❤️

Thank you for posting the video. Happened to have a very similar system like yours, so was able to nip it in the bud. Soon as I adjusted it, bam, no running water. So simple, thank you for taking the time to create this video and for explaining it within 1 minute
I have never done anything with toilet repairs. After I watched the video I got a screwdriver and went to work. My toilet is more modern and has a knob that you turn. I turned it to the left, like you would a screw and it worked. My husband has dementia and I am having to do things myself. I am so proud of myself. Thank you
Leave it to a woman to make it short and simple!! After months of a running toilet, I fixed it in a few minutes thanks to you. I take care of my disabled husband and don't have the time or money for a plumber. A million thanks! ❤
P.S. I just subscribed to your channel!

Hi Leah, I want to let you know as a recently divorced woman living alone with my youngest daugther your video saved me. My toilet was running for days and then refused to flush and it was late into the night and I did not want to spend 100s of pounds I did not have to call out a plumber. Some of the videos on here were long and complicated and needed a technical fix in order to solve this issue. Your video was just right for a lone woman on her own who needed a quick fix for this issue. Thank you for getting to the point and solving the issue in under 5 minutes. I have saved your video for future reference and I am now a subscriber. Please keep up the good work for ladies like me! 😊
What the heck? How did you know about my toilet? Thanks this came at the best time.
Same here! my toilet running driving me crazy.
Whew! Peace
Yup! Today it started continuously running right before I was going to go do some weekend errands. Lol
I love her videos. I always feel like she's talking to me directly and I love the encouraging words at the end "You can do this!" My goal is to be a handy woman tackling the simple stuff around the house before I call in the troops. As my friends tell me "you got this girl" Thank you!!

This is legit the best instruction video I’ve seen on RUclips, instant fix
This is why I love RUclips. I appreciate you taking the time to do this and also putting “on some models.” Mine was opposite of yours but it was the fix to stop the running water and now I also got the proper water level in place. Thank you for the friendly tutorial!
Leah, I literally just discovered this problem in my guest bathroom this morning! I was ready to buy a new toilet because I couldn't figure out the problem. Now, problem solved! You just saved me $300+!! Thank you so much!!
My pleasure! Glad it worked out for you.
Sorry, can’t finish this one... need to rush off and fix my toilet 🙃 Thanks, Leah. Your tips are always helpful.

Thank you so much for all your videos. Im a first time homebuyer and have been undertaking a dmall bathroom remodel and trying to DIY as much as possible to save money, your videos have walked me through so many of my tasks and have really empowered me as both a woman and a homeowner, thank you for your lessons!
Omg. Thank you! My water bill has been $300+ over the normal amount for the past 2 months. You're a life saver!
Leah, thank you so much. After receiving my last three water bills that were extremely high, especially the one today, and shutting off the water valve after each flush, I couldn't take it anymore. After watching other videos and following their instructions proved futile, I came across your video. Simply turning the adjustment screw counter clockwise was the solution. Wow!
Hi Leah - I echo the sentiments of others who commented on this video, thank you so much for taking the time to make these simple videos. You are truly a blessing ❤️
Thank you so much, Leah! After months of hearing this in our bathroom, I was just about to call a plumber. I decided to see if there was anything I could try first and your video came up. Your tips completely worked for our situation. I was already a subscriber because your videos are so clear and you make anyone watching feel like they can tackle things they never tried before. They have proved helpful to me in the past, several times. This is overdue, but l just wanted to thank you for posting your extremely helpful videos! You just saved me a bunch of money and time in trying to coordinate with an available plumber that matches my schedule! So appreciative of the knowledge that you share and the precise way you impart that knowledge!
Leah, Your explanation of how to stop the continuous flow of water in the toilet tank was the most clear, concise and helpful than any of the others I have watched. I think I have the problem stopped but am keeping a watch on it to be sure. Thank you for getting to the point clearly,
& “quickly”
My
Running toilet was driving me nuts. Watched your video along with a few others and I now know more about toilets than I have ever wanted to know before. Fix both toilets with new seals, adjusted water levels and cleaned fill valve seals. You said I could do it and I did, thank you Leah! Joining the 60 club soon 😃
Thank you Leah! Your clear instructions averted a major catastrophe. My toilet was running for at least an hour in the middle of the night and after trying everything I thought would work your simple adjustment worked! I am now a believer and a subscriber!
Thank you! I think I just fixed our toilet that has been running for quite a while with everyone always juggling the handle to get the toilet to stop running. I liked that you spoke clearly and showed exactly what you were talking about. It was super helpful to me!
I dreaded fixing the toilet for almost a month now, but i literally fixed it in seconds after watching this video. THANK YOU
Thank you so much! We’ve been having this issue for months and I had no idea how to fix it. Who knew it was such an easy fix! I appreciate you
You're the best! You have saved me thousands of hours over time that I would have spent looking online to find a fix for something, or spent countless dollars to hire someone. Instead, I just pay attention to your videos and learn something new when you post one. Thank you so very much!

Thanks! At my daughter's apartment and she's been complaining about her toilet running. Googled what to do, your video came up, and now it's fixed. Thank you so much.
Omg, Leah! I wish I had found this video months ago! It’s so clear and concise. All the other videos I saw had this complicated plumbing work. My toilet started running again last night and in frustration I broke the flapper. Hope you have a video on replacing it! Lol off to search now. -
*Edit - I did it!!
Another marvellous video. Fancy a job being my personal psychic. You always seem to publish videos in the order I need them! Thank you Leah your a star 💫
Great job
This video is sooooo helpful for a single parent God bless you
YOU DID IT! You did the trick, or rather, you showed me how to do it, and I did it. It's funny, you're little tagline at the end, "You can do it!" actually got me to try, and...I DID IT! No more running toilet noise! You're the best, thank you!
LOVE when I find someone who has mastered the art of how to teach/share information so even a 6yr old could figure it out! Thank you! 👏😃

My toilet was running for like 10 minutes and I couldn't take it anymore! I fixed mine using this video too!
Dear Leah - Sending GRATITUDE to you for explaining this so well succinctly!
I watched a few longer videos that were not helpful. Your video helped a 66 yo female fix the running problem on a brand new toilet I have been listening to for weeks. Feeling thankful to you and a enjoying a sense of relief that you helped me learn how to solve this problem! Shine on!
Thank you!!!! The water was running in my parents toilet ALL DAY and they’re out of town, so happy I could do this quick fix for them!!
Wow. My water bill randomly increased. I figured out it was because my toilet never stops running. This video is so helpful! Fixed my issue! Thank you ❤

It worked! Thank you Leah for keeping it short, informative & to the point!!
Thank you sooooooo much! The jiggling of the handle wasn’t working and the dripping was slowly driving me bonkers! This simple “screw adjustment” tip did the trick!!! I greatly appreciate your knowledge and your willingness to share 💗💗💗
Honestly, all I can say is a huge thank you so so much. I tried everything and yours is the only one that worked without having to buy or change anything. Top tip: if unsure if yours is clockwise or anti-clockwise, TRY BOTH
counter-clockwise ;)
Yes. I had to turn my screw clockwise to fix the problem.
Love your video! I watched several other videos before yours. I have to say, your video is the best one for explaining everything. Thank you so much.
I so very appreciate how you articulate each step and take into account questions we might have. Subscribed to your channel due to this video. Thank you
You are such a great teacher :) I always love your videos!
My DEAR Leah,
I had a leaky toilet which I "fixed", now for over a YEAR, I often have to flush twice or it clogs, etc. (details omitted)
Thanks to you, I no longer debate on getting a new one, and this one works well. My water level was only about an inch low upon refill and believe it or not, that was the problem. You are VERY correct that it is only a SLIGHT adjustment! Maybe a quarter turn if that. It is now to the proper water height and works like a charm. THANKS Darlin'! "Clockwise is higher, counter clockwise is lower. I did NOT know.
Maybe less than a 1/4 turn, I kept the lid off until it flush and filled at consistently the proper level.
My toilet tank wasn't filling so I checked on RUclips and watched a video that suggested the problem was either with the seal at the bottom of the tank (the flapper) or the fill valve. I happend to see your video listed under "Related" and clicked on it. I decided that, before buying new parts or, more likely, calling a plumber, I would try tightening/loosening the fill valve's adjustment screw. Guess what? It worked! You saved me at least $50 in parts or hundreds for a plumber (I know zero about plumbing)! Thank you!
I just found your channel today and I am so GRATEFUL. I noticed the water constantly running this morning and I switched off the water until my husband had a chance to look at it. Well for giggles I looked it up on you tube and found you and I instantly subscribed. Thank you for presenting this information in an easy to follow fashion. I appreciate it!
Nice, concise and to the point. Most would have made this 3 minute video a 10 minute one. Great editing as well. Thanks

Hi 👋🏽 Leah! Thank you for your advice! Been trying to figure this out for a few weeks now and your suggestion totally worked. Now no need to call someone in or get parts. I did it!!! Thank you Leah!!!! ♥️♥️♥️
So glad I found this video! I just replaced the flapper to stop my toilet from running, but the next day I could still hear it running. It took several counterclockwise turns to get it to the right water level, but now no more leaking! Thanks so much for taking the time to make this video.
Watched this video shortly after discovering your channel a few weeks ago out of curiosity while laying in bed thinking “I don’t have a broken toilet now, but I should know this”. That was a few weeks ago and today I encountered a broken toilet and thought “hey, I know how to do this now!” so I fixed it up and it was no big deal. Thank you Leah!!!!!
Wow! Much hardware development since the simple flapper mechanism days. And was that a bidet hose on the left? Thanks for sharing the knowledge!

I hope so too. If not there are other SJD videos on the subject for older toilets.
Always great and informative videos from Leah of Seejanedrill. Thanks Leah!
Thank you for the clear and concise video. I've watched many of your video's and you're gift for clearly demonstrating a process is hands down my favorite. 😊
Leah, I was showing this video to my son. He asked me what clockwise and counterclockwise meant. . .I hit him with a can of Ensure (Joking!)
My mother went to McDonald's and ordered a half dozen mcnuggets. The cashier said what is a half dozen? My mother had to give her a quick math lesson.
That's definitely me!
I had seen this video and made a mental note to try this before buying parts to fix my niece's toilet. Unfortunately, Teflon brain occurred, meaning it didn't stick, and off I went to by the parts. But when I was about to start the repairs I saw the screw and I remembered what you said (temporary Teflon brain gone). I turned the screw! It took 3 attempts at adjusting the screw and TaDa, it worked! The toilet stopped running. What my niece really needs is a whole new toilet, but thanks to you she can get some sleep without hearing the toilet run all night until this tired old one can be replaced. I am now a subscriber so I'm gona see what else you've got. Thank you so much, you're a genius! And because of you my niece thinks I'm a genius too.
Welcome to the channel
Exceptional video Leah! You did an amazing job explaining and showing all key points from an instructional video example. Great job!!! 😄
Leah if my toilet is say really old like 60 + is time just to get a new one??
Search red maroon toilet. This youtuber flushes toilets to see which one has the best flush. Some toilets have a good bowl cleaning action and some will miss spots as the water rushes down. Some older ones have better bowl cleaning action than the new ones. Standards cadet, I believe could be one of the better new ones, from reviews. Altho standard has some lemons. Gerber has good ones and lemons. Reading viewer comments has been helpful.
worseto1 It’s like RoseMarie H. said, sometimes you have to replace a little piece inside the mechanism, but that’s it. A whole toilet replacement is only needed if the bowl is broken, the older the toilet the better the flush. Greetings from Belgium 🇧🇪. Have a wonderful time. Blessings to you and yours.
Not necessarily. Some of the newer toilets don't measure up to the older ones. "If it ain"t broke, don't fix it."
