    Dealing with a #toilet at home that seems to continue to run can be annoying, more so not knowing which of the tank parts are the cause of the water running constantly; a good way to find out how to repair your toilet is understanding it's operation inside the tank.

    Most of a time when the water keeps running inside a #toilettank it relates to one being the #toiletflapper, and at times you find that the valve may be clogged to the point of keeping the water pumping into the tank; considering that the valve was pumping fine in my example it lead to one thing as the cause of the toilet running the water.

    Considering that the toilet was flushing fine, and so it was the #toiletvalve pumping water inside the tank; it lead to the flapper which is what keeps the water from running and so replacing it with a new one is all it needed to stop the toilet water from running.

    I read my meter to monitor my water usage because I had a leak a while back and my water bill was huge. I did the reading on March14th and onApril17th. I used 5670 gallons of water and I'm single. And I was out of town 3 times. I turned off the water to my toilet yesterday and my tank was empty this am. My bowl was still full. I'm gonna try to get a flap installed. Thank you

    Simple is always the easiest. First off, thanks for the video. Secondly folks, after trial and much error (on my part) I replaced my toilet innards, all except the damn flap. I mean, who would think that this 'simple' little piece of rubber holds a BIG key to "why does my water spontaneously come on, then go right back off". Five and a half minutes into this mans video explains it all. Well, for me at least. If you get the kit that comes with a flapper just change it, and don't assume that simple little rubber piece is insignificant. Thanks again for the video Bro.

    I ended up taking off that blue cap and just clearing the top of that idk what it is.. pump?? with my finger and the toilet stopped running.. 😮.. it’s been running so badly I would have to turn off the water after each flush. I’m hoping this will fix it 😬

  • @MattAkiyama1

    Yup it was the flapper in my case as well. Holding it down stopped the draining and allowed the tank to fill up. In my case though it stayed down and didn't continue draining after. Although I probably should get a new one if this keeps happening frequently. Maybe it isn't the right size or something.

    • @MasterMindHandyMan
      @MasterMindHandyMan  3 месяца назад

      I am sorry the chain is not covered on the video. the idea is to measure the chain length from the flapper to the flush stick while resting normal not while is pulled. then hook the chain to the end of the rod without hanging much.

    • @Sofia-BizBuyer
      @Sofia-BizBuyer 3 месяца назад

      I think it’s best to compare it to the one you already have, that way you’re putting the chain at the same length that has always worked.👍

    What if I have an issue where water leaks from the tank due to the fill valve spewing water through the lid? Will this fix it?

    • @MasterMindHandyMan
      @MasterMindHandyMan  3 месяца назад

      no. the tank valve is not related to the flapper function. if the water running comes from the valve to the left of the tank that you see on the video with the blue lid. then it means the pump is clogged inside and is not measuring the level of water right for it to stop it. I recommend changing out the tank valve.

    Dumb question: You said its not necessary to shut off the water to change the flapper. So you take off the flapper, take to home depot to hopefully match it with the correct flapper, all the while the water is still on at the toilet at home? Won't it be running the entire time one is at home depot? Anyone??? Thanks

      thanks for watching. and asking. the only suggestion is to make sure is the right compatible flapper to work perfect with the tank valve. if its then clean the ring edges of the drainage hole going into the toilet bowl. you want to make sure both rubber and plastic seal together. on a plan b situation then replace the entire middle kit with a new one which comes with a compatible flappler here is a product to consider amzn.to/4apouuP
